This was okay. My son liked it. It’s not really about relaxing but rather, almost, making due with what’s around you - which is good too.

Summary: Take Time to Relax is a children’s book about a little beaver family whose schedule is packed and constantly dashing different directions. From ballet class, work, aerobics, volleyball, cake decorating, and different activities this family never has the opportunity to slow down. Until one day a snow storm keeps them at home. At first they are not sure what to do with all the free time they have, but they come to learn some great things about each other. They realize that they best day is spent spending time together and taking time to relax.
Theme: This children’s book shows the importance of taking time to slow down from that busy schedule and spend time with your family.
Personal Response/ Recommendation: I really enjoyed this book, because it shares an every day life of a family whose crazy schedule stops them from spending time with each other. It is a relatable book that children can connect to. I remember when I was younger being in all different sports, having homework, church night, and other planned events it seemed like there was never a chance to just simply sit on the couch with my family. This book is an easy conversation starter for kids, they can compare their lives and share the activities they are involved in. This also could be a teaching tool for the days of the week.

This book shares the everyday life of a family whose busy all every day of the week. Children could make self-to-text connections to this book when prompted. For example, does your parent or guardian do a particular activity during the week or what are some other things your parents do. They could also predict the different things the family members in this book are going to do the next day. This would be a good book to teach the order of days in the week.

This book would be good to use as a transition into a more laid back activity after a busy or crazy day. It can clam kids down and bring their focus back to school. It is a easy read so it can be read aloud to the class. Shows how in this busy fast world we need to TAKE TIME AND RELAX.
