He has me rethinking everything I thought was normal, and he is making me second guess everything I thought I knew.He told me that cars have the ability to free the trapped. Totally different POV's ;)
Nicole Dykes is a wife and a professional assistant/mom to two gorgeous girls. Currently residing in Kansas, she’s a lover of coffee, Kansas City Chiefs, and all things romance.
She's found her passion in writing M/M romance because love is love is love. Some popular works include Hostile, The Spark of Hope Series, and The Kensley Panthers Series!
This is my first book of the Monroe series, so I can say that these series do not need to be read in order to follow the series!
I loved it and hope to read the rest of the series soon what I can say the book blew my mind.
What I loved most the LESSON → THAT family is there for you no matter what, and forgive your mistakes be supportive of your decision and not force you to do things you do not want to do!
Type of Characters and my choices according to pictures :
Jackson Garret aka Jax – Protective, sexy as hell and a to die for Hero!
Charlotte – I will describe her as complex, she does all the right things for the right reasons, always tried to please her family and friends UNTIL Jax!
Jax meets Charlotte at a charity event, PROBLEM SHE’s Married, BUT biggest problem → not to a regular man she is married to Senator Nicholas Warner! For an anniversary gift, Nicholas asks Jax to build a custom car for Charlotte.
Charlotte realize that her life is not what she always thought it to be – PERFECT!
Jax makes her see herself in a different light, Jax never actually had a woman as an actual friend so he has some new found challenges on top of Charlotte being married
Charlotte is super sweet, and developed into a perfect sculpture her parents created, a perfect child and later a perfect wife, always doing what was expected of her and what needed to be done to keep everyone happy except herself!
Jax is the complete opposite of everything Charlotte did not to want in her life or needed in her life until she met him. She was a beauty queen with THE perfect life. Jax made her realize what is true friendship, how friends make you feel that is true, how to live, to be loved by friends, and not just to exist.
This is a story that makes you realize complete opposites attract each other!
The hero and heroine will defeat the evil lurking in the background, and Jax is just that a perfect hero to defeat the evil!
To the Senator Nicholas Warner you are an ass! Sorry I had to get that out of my system
Epilogue! →
Mind blowing!
Recommend to the following type of readers: → Over 18 etc.
Why my rating?→ Don’t be foolish read the book!!!!
A great book, full of surprises → emotion & tension, well written with emotion and perfectly executed, the dialogue was smooth and fast, the love scenes are HOT and sensual, well done Nicole a standing ovation from me!

ARC Received via GR AUTHOR for honest opinion
A BIG Thank you to the Nicole for this one *hugs* xoxo
4 'Purple paint job' Stars! ARC kindly provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Yes, again, after only two months, Nicole Dykes releases a new novel! First she gave us Dylan and Luke Monroe and now it's time for the hot tattoed Jax. I have been waiting for his story since we meet him in Unsocial and now we got it! It's definitely different from the other two stories in this series but still great in its way.
Unrefined is the third book in the Monroe series but it can also be read as a stand-alone (even though I highly recommend reading Unsocial and Unbridled first). This is the story of Jackson 'Jax' Garrett (Dylan Monroe's best friend and business partner, a man who has been suffering for a long time and has become a playboy who is not looking to find the love of his life) and Charlotte Warner (she is the completely opposite of Jax: a woman who comes from money, married to a man who is more worried about him being a senator than anything else and everything changes when she meets the man who will customize her new car).
"We all need an escape sometimes Charlotte."
I know that after our close call last night, I probably shouldn't be here. In fact, I should stay far away, but I can't. And not only because she's a client.
As I previously mentioned, Unrefined is quite different from the other two novels in this series. Now we are faced with two people who are completely different but still have a inevitable connection. Charlotte is a devoted wife, a woman used to a rich lifestyle and a quite innocent person when it comes to relationships. And Jax is nothing alike: he comes from a poor background and he has gained everything he has by himself and his best friend's help. I really enjoyed how Nicole developed this story. I have to say I was surprised when I realized Jax would not be with Alex but I have to say Charlotte is a good addition to the Monroe family!
I want to go back to her house, take her upstairs and show her how fun fucking can be, but I can't. I'm so fucking tired of can't and shouldn't.
Maybe every shitty thing that has happened up to this point was all leading me right here with her.
Of course, Jackson is my favorite thing in this book! He is so protective, a good friend when Charlotte needs it and a great lover when they finally get together! I do have to say that, for me, they spend too much time being friends but I also get it because Charlotte was still not sure what to do with her life. And maybe that is why I did not enjoy Unrefined as much as I enjoyed Unbridled, I felt a stronger connection with Hannah than with Charlotte. She needed to learn to become independent and that took quite a lot of time. Still, the development of the love story and the chemistry was fantastic!
"Stay with me Charlotte. I know you are scared, but don't run." "You don't understand being scared. You haven't been afraid a day in your life, you're the bravest person I know." "I've been scared every day since I met you."
How not to love Jax, right? And I am so happy that Nicole continues improving her writing style and with the Monroes stories, this family has a special place in my heart! You all know how much I enjoy having a big happy family involved! I really enjoyed having some small scenes with the other two couples and with the whole family, of course. I cannot wait for the next story, which I am pretty sure will be Cassie's!
"I love you Jackson Garrett and now the possibilities are endless."
Therefore, my rating for Unrefined is 4 STARS because, again, Nicole gave her readers a great hero and a fabulous love story! As I said, I felt more connected to Luke and Hannah's story but still this was a great read for me. I am sure Nicole has more surprises for us regarding all the other characters that she introduced in the Monroe series, I can't wait! And thank you again Nicole for giving me the opportunity to read this before releasing!

Unrefined is book 3 in the Monroe Series and can be read as a standalone. This book is about Jackson « Jax » Garrett and Charlotte Warner. When I first read the blurb and found that the heroine was married, I wasn’t sure how much I was going to like it. But the more I read, the more I enjoyed it.
Charlotte is a beautiful Southern Belle married to a powerful Senator she met 7 years ago when she was only 21 years old. Everything in her life is dictated by her husband’s function and his controlling personality. Wanting to please him and to play her part in their marriage, she’d always done everything by the book. Her life completely wrapped up in his. Outwardly, everything seems idyllic and having never experienced nothing else in her life, Charlotte bends to all the constraints imposed by her role as wife of an influential and respected politician. But nothing is quite as it seems.
Jax is the best friend and business partner of Dylan (from book one) and a honorary member of the Monroe family. He didn’t grow up with much family and there is nothing he wouldn’t do for them. The man lives by his own rules and doesn’t make commitments at least in the 'love' department. Jax has a dark past of his own that has always prevented him from opening himself up to love and true feelings.
Right from their first encounter at a formal New Year’s Eve party, Jax is captivated, enthralled by the stunning and refined woman who looked slightly bored and uncomfortable. She’s nothing like his usual type, the tough chicks with tattoos and piercings. His attraction toward Charlotte is strong and immediate. But when she’s introduced to him as the wife of one of his most important clients, and he finds himself in a situation where he is asked to customize a car for Charlotte’s birthday, he knows that spending time with her might be the biggest challenge of his adult life. Jax knows Charlotte spells trouble with a capital T!
For Charlotte, from the moment Jax walks into her life he makes her second guess all she thought she knew as normal. He’s unlike anyone she’s ever met before and she finds his honesty exhilarating. As the time goes by, Charlotte and Jax become friends and against all odds they gradually develop a solid relationship. Charlotte quickly realizes that she let her husband to completely control her and that she was never able to find out who she really is. And when she’s forced to face her sad reality, she turns naturally to the one man who gives her a real sense of confort, who genuinely cares about her and who allows her to spread her wings and find herself again.
At one point, each must choose between the life they’ve worked hard to achieve and the one they could have together. Will they come to the same decision before it’s too late?
I enjoyed the way this story unfolded, the build up, the sexual tension, and the feelings that were running rampant. The characters were well-developed, even if at times I found Charlotte irritating. She really needed to grow a back bone and to be more decisive. Jax was a lot more romantic than I expected him to be. The ever present bad boy in him was, throughout nearly the entire book, a really nice guy, completely and utterly devoted to Charlotte. The characters were well-developed, and I liked the interesting contrast of the unlikely couple matches. Somehow Nicole Dykes makes them work just fine. Loved them together as friends, then as lovers. As always, I also enjoyed the Monroes and their new level of deliciousness and authenticity, even if I’m still not a fan of Alex. I can’t help to dislike her.
“You aren’t getting it. Fear can be a good thing. I was walking around numb and you woke me up."
Unrefined is a contemporary romance from the Monroe Family Series. Although Unrefined can be read as a stand-alone the characters are heavily intertwined throughout the series. In this read, we finally find out the mystery of Jax (Dylan's best friend). This forbidden/second chance romance is sure to melt your heart.
Jax is Dylan Monroe's best friend. He has made a name for himself by being the ultimate ladies man. A player, he has no problem "landing the girl". But when a certain client walks into the doors of his shop to order a refurbished car for his wife, Jax's questions everything he has ever known.
Charlotte is a southern belle. The wife of a senator, she has always done everything by the book. When her husband gives her the gift of a new car, she suddenly finds herself struggling to follow the "standard rules" that she has always tried so hard to adhere to. As her marriage begins to crumble before her eyes, Charlotte finds a friend in Jax. But what happens when a tatted bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks and a senator's wife get together? Chaos!
As Charlotte begins to question her marriage, Jax struggles with his feelings for Charlotte. If he does, in fact, allow Charlotte into his life, he could put the business he has worked so hard to create with Dylan in jeopardy. But after overcoming so many losses in his life, Charlotte may be the only thing that can make his life complete.
Told in dual POV, Unrefined is a sexy read with all of the characters we have grown to love. As Jax and Charlotte come together, we see glimpses of the entire Monroe clan. Jax is a loyal man and his love for his best friend and the tender way he cares for Charlotte certainly had me cheering him on from the first page. Charlotte is a bit more of a mystery with her whimsical upbringing and her quick marriage to the older senator. Her evolution is quite remarkable and serves as a reminder that it's never too late to make things right in your life.
Overall, Unrefined is certainly another great addition to this series. I highly recommend this read to NA fans who enjoy a good forbidden romance. After reading the first book in the series Unsocial, I was hooked on this motley crew, and I certainly can't wait to see what happens with them next!
***Monroe Family Series***
*BR with my girl Maddie!*
*ARC graciously provided via author in exchange for an honest review!*
Firstly, I was very kindly given an ARC of this book by the author- Thank you very much Nicole, it was an honour to be one of the first to read your latest work.
I have really enjoyed this series. I hit the ground running with Unsocial which was Dylan and Brooke's story which did an awesome job of introducing all the family and friends connecting the Monroe family together. Their's was a very adult story- both lead characters are in their early/ mid twenties.
Then came Unbridled , Luke and Hannah's story which felt much younger because they were in College.
In Unrefined we have Jax's (Jackson) story. Now, this has a whole different vibe to it. Jax is ALL man. ALL 30yrs, 6ft 3, tattooed, badass, loyal, protective, gorgeous bit of him is all man. And I have long been curious as to what lay beneath that feisty , strongly opinionated, woman magnet . Well, in this story you learn more about his past and you see this guy fall HARD for the knockout blonde who blows his world apart. This player is about to get schooled in affairs of the heart. But make no mistake, throughout this novel Jax never loses his edge. He's grown up and made a success of the business with his best friend Dylan but you don't have to scratch far below the surface to find the red blooded alpha that sets women's hearts racing.
The heroine is Charlotte. I loved watching her character develop and evolve from a shadow of her former self into a strong, vibrant woman. She is very tolerant and kind & Jax does not exploit that. Charlotte is married when they meet but the relationship is cold and despite her attempts to save it this marriage is on the outs. Jax makes her feel and live again.
It was great to catch up with the rest of the Monroe gang. Alex (Brooke's) best friend is also in this. Her & Jax previously hooked up in Unsocial. I must say, I am not a fan of Alex and although she tried to make amends for her words in this book I still disliked her.
You could read this as a standalone but you would get more out of it if you at least read Unsocial. All three books are fantastic so I'd recommend all of them.
POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD
Dual POV. No cheating between these two but you do see Jax with a regular hookup (it's perfunctory at best....trust me, there is no affection) , before he is with Charlotte. Whatever happened in his past , you are left in no doubt that Charlotte is it for him. Lots of sex and swearing so recommend over 18's only. If domestic abuse is a trigger for you, be aware it is addressed in this book. It isn't overly graphic but is present. HEA? Yes but it was not far into the future but hopefully there will be more books about the rest of the Monroe's and these two will appear again.
This was so good I couldn't put it down! I just love Jax. He is such a great guy and totally deserves his HEA. One more of the hotties gets bit by the live bug and to our amazement handles it better then most.
3 1/2 stars This was my first read from this author, and I enjoyed it more than I thought that I would once I learned the dynamic of Charlotte's relationship. I loved Jax. His character was raw in so many ways - trying to abide by his own code, be loyal to his family and not be "THAT" man. He's one of the most upstanding leads I've read in a while. Charlotte may be married, but she didn't realize what was missing from her life until Jax entered it. I was worried about infidelity and cheating, but this story is told in such a way that you really wanted these two to end up together. Charlotte's husband is the typical politician, and the country club snobs have always looked down on Charlotte despite not knowing the details of their marriage or finances. With Jax in the picture, Charlotte is actually able to find herself and her strength - realizing the doormat tendencies she's been living. I love seeing women find their inner strength and grow as the story progresses and this one delivered on all counts. I would recommend this read. Even though there are a few serious topics (and this is not the first book in the series) we learn who the characters are and the value of the relationships that they have with each other. As a reader, we are never left to wonder who is who and how they fit in. That says a lot about the author and the quality of writing. Pick it up, you won't be disappointed. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
received copy for honest review. 3.5 stars I was really looking forward to Jackson's story. When I realised he was getting a "new" love interest, I was a little wary. He is Dylan's best friend. If you have read any of the other books then you know he is family. He has very filter and is a self described foul mouthed unrefined bad boy with no thoughts of commitment. Charlotte is his complete opposite. She grew up in a wealthy home from the south. She was raised on the pageant circuit and everything is very "civilised". It took me a while to warm up her. She was a doormat and didn't seem to have enough personality for Jax. She seemed too tame. She eventually grew into herself and evened him out a little. Even when she stood up for herself, she did it with a little class. The fact that she was married may bother some people but the truth of the matter is her husband was not worthy. they did the right things through her decision to separate from her husband. The way the handled things lets you know that they are good people and have class. It was more Jax that kept things above board. He didn't want to be "that guy". I liked how he let her get to the resolution on her own. In the end opposites attract and they made a great couple.
Another hit by Nicole Dykes!!! I loved Jax in the first two books. It took me awhile to warm up to Charlotte, what with her being married and needing to find her backbone (thank gosh she finally did). I'm not a fan of adultery, but in this case her and senator dickwad were separated. It still felt wrong the feelings Jax and Charlotte were having with her being married. Even with the senator being an abusive adulterer himself, still held me back from fully enjoying this book. Two wrongs and all that. I just don't like that type of storyline. I like both my H/h free and clear to become an awesome couple. It was nice catching up with the Monroe's and Shiller. Cassies story next!!! Gifted ARC by the author for an honest review.
This story takes place after Unsocial and Unbridled. Jax's best friend Dylan and his wife, Brooke, are expecting an addition to their family. Cassie is now eighteen about to go off to college. Luke and Hannah are going strong. Even Alex has found a steady relationship.
Jax doesn't know that he's missing anything in his life until he meets Charlotte at a charity event. The only problem is, she's married to Senator Nicholas Warner, one of their most annoying clients. When the Senator insists they spend time together building Charlotte's anniversary gift, the Senator doesn't know the can of worms he's opened up. Jax can see under the surface of that marriage and knows that all isn't as perfect as it seems. But he's not going to go after a married woman.
Charlotte has never met anyone like Jax before, and she soon realizes that being in his presence allows her to open up to be the person she really is. Not the perfect daughter and wife she was raised to be by her parents and expected to be by Nicholas.
Though Jax has never been friends with a woman before, their relationship is purely platonic... on the surface. That is until a violent act sends Charlotte into Jax's life on a more permanent basis. They find in each other the answers they've been missing in themselves.
This story was so beautiful. It's about finding that person who accepts and loves you for who you actually are. Not the public face you put on due to expectations from others, and finding happiness at the end of the bumpy road that is life.
This was such a great book. I did NOT read the other two books in the series, but after reading this one I do. I never felt like I was missing anything by not reading the other two, so if you haven't read them, that's okay, the book explains the other's story in this book or mentions things.
Yes, Charlotte is married. But Charlotte and Jax don't do anything until she is separated, the author doesn't condone it either, you see both of their sides and what they are feeling and how they try to stay away from the other but it's like an unknown force keeps pushing them together.
This was a great book, all the characters are great, and the author evoked such strong emotions in me towards the evil people in the book (The Senator, Karen etc, I wanted to reach through the pages and slap them on more than one occasion.)
Nicole did it again! This is a fabulous book! I loved it so much, that I read it in one day. Jax is just as hot as you would expect and Charlotte grows to be a woman worthy of his love. I really liked how Charlotte starts off married. At first, I wasn't sure how it was going to go, but Nicole managed to make you see her marriage so clearly that the love that blossomed between her and Jax felt true. I love seeing how the other characters that I have grown to love in this series continue to have their lives shared in following books. I would definitely read another book by this author. If you want some feel good books, be sure to pick up the first in the series and work your way to this one. You will be so happy that you did!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is a continuation of the Monroe Family series and it was fantastic! This is Jax's story and boy is it a roller coaster. He is the business partner of Tricked with Dylan Monroe and he's your typical playboy. He doesn't do relationships...until he meets Charlotte Warner. Too bad she's married to one of their most important clients.
The story was amazing. It flowed well and no holes in the plot. I loved that this book kept us updated with how he rest of the Monroes were and I enjoyed watching Jax with the oldest Monroe kid, Cassie. The characters were well developed and they grew so much throughout the book, particularly Charlotte. There's no cliffhanger and it's got a very happy ending. I would recommend reading the first two books before this one just so you know the back of the characters.
Jax isn't looking for anything more than a casual hook up. Charlotte is married to a Senator who only wants her so he can further his career. He decides that she needs a new car for her birthday so he hires Jax and Dylan to build her a dream car. Jax tries to stay away from Charlotte. But when her marriage falls apart he finds himself in the friend zone. Hard to do but he insists that she has to be free of her ex before anything can come from their friendship. Once again this is a well written story! I love this author and this series!
This story was definitely a very unexpected turn of events. Jax and Charlotte NJ both hard a difficult life, but in two very different ways. I love how you get so involved with each character and they continue to grow from story to story. Each one situation tears at your heart. Although, 85% through with Jax and Charlotte i was actually scared to finish. Was so excited with this ending. On to Miss Cass story, what a rollercoaster this will be.
I received this book for Free to Give My True and Honest Review
Nicole has shot it out again, with the awesome Jax (Jackson)'s episode and what an episode it is. As we don't JUST see his story we see what's happening with the rest of The ever so loving & friendly Monroe Family
Fantastic! The more I read about this family, the more I love them. They really do grow on you and excites you to want to grow with them. I loved this story, not at all what I was expecting and that is great! Lots of angst, anticipation and a whole lot of sexy! Can't wait to read the next one!
This is book three in this series and I have been binge reading them since book one! Great stories, good characters and yes, you been to read these! Go do it, now!
Jax and Charlotte are now my favorite ‘Monroe’ couple! I loved these characters so much! This story had a few twists and turns I wasn’t expecting. It sure didn’t disappoint!
We already know Jax from the previous stories. Charlotte, we meet her and she is married to a much older Senator. You can’t help but assume she is a gold digger. You learn she loves him though. Or at least she thinks she does. How’s that for some drama?!?!
Ever since Jax was introduced to us in book 1, I do wanted to hear his story. This book did not disappoint. Charlotte and Jax together was unbelievable great. You will love this book and want the next one.
Jax has no interest in a relationship or anymore of a family life than he had being part of the Monroe clan. Then he meets Charlotte, she is a refined southern lady. They couldn't be more opposite. But you know what they say, opposites attract. Charlotte has some baggage she needs to deal with but the sizzle can not be contained. A fab read.
Absolutely loved Charlotte and Jax’s story!!! Jax is honestly one of my favorite characters and I loved seeing his softer side. My heart literally broke when finding out about his past.
Unrefined written by Nicole Dykes is a really romance about two lost souls. One more lost than the other but an incredibly sweet story to say the least! I liked how the story progressed slowly building the story with incredible characters. This is number three in an awesome series but can totally be read as a standalone or out of order as I did. I did read, “Unsocial” as the first book in the series so I was familiar with the characters! I loved that this story was about Jackson!
The author does an outstanding job of developing and describing her characters and implementing each one of them into the story! I loved threw several moral delimenas into the mix of this story. I think the story itself is AWESOME! I think this story was a bit different most of the stories I have read lately. I also love that I continue to read about the characters from the previous stories but this story is focused on Jackson and some entirely different than the other stories!
The story was full of suspense and anticipation that builds between two characters to the point I think I was going to bust! The author did not disappoint when it came to the intimate scenes with the great and infamous, “Jackson”. Let’s say it was blow your socks off type of thing!
I think the author should definitely get five stars for a FANTASTIC STORY! The story written smoothly with excellent dialogue, conflict, and description of great characters!
I was given a free copy from the Author for an honest review. I am floored,,, a bit nervous going in as I wanted Jax (Jaxson) to have a happy ending. He is so hot, and sinfully sexy. I would love to bump into him for a night or two to scratch the itch. I'm just worried I wouldn't let him go. He is so loyal to his "family" and friends. Even though he is a tad bit of a playboy. Charlotte is Sweet and beautiful, someone you love to hate. Growing up, being groomed as a beauty queen, had to have sucked. Never really having your life as your own. Jax offers her life and freedom. Char being married when they meet does suck, but you learn so much about each of them as they skirt around their attractions. You get to visit with the other characters from the previous series which I love! A definite must HOT read!
