About the author

Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay (Bengali: শরদিন্দু বন্দোপাধ্যায়; 30 March 1899 – 22 September 1970) was a well-known literary figure of Bengal. He was also actively involved with Bengali cinema as well as Bollywood. His most famous creation is the fictional detective Byomkesh Bakshi.
He wrote different forms of prose: novels, short stories, plays and screenplays. However, his forte was short stories and novels. He wrote historical fiction like Kaler Mandira, GourMollar (initially named as Mouri Nodir Teere), Tumi Sandhyar Megh, Tungabhadrar Teere (all novels), Chuya-Chandan, Maru O Sangha (later made into a Hindi film named Trishangni) and stories of the unnatural with the recurring character Baroda. Besides, he wrote many songs and poems.

Awards: 'Rabindra Puraskar' in 1967 for the novel 'Tungabhadrar Tirey'. 'Sarat Smriti Purashkar' in 1967 by Calcutta University.

যে-সব লেখা শরদিন্দু বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়কে একইসঙ্গে ঐতিহাসিক ও রোমান্টিক সাহিত্যে মোটামুটি ঐশ্বরিক লেভেলে নিয়ে গেছে, তাদের অন্যতম হল এটি।

শরদিন্দুর লেখা মৃৎপাত্রের মত। খুব সাধারণ লেখাও ভাষার গুণে অসাধারণ হয়ে ওঠে। না থাক কাহিনীর ঘনঘন বাঁকবদল। মনে হোক, এমন সহস্র গল্প কতই শুনেছি! তবুও আবার পড়ব, তবুও আবার শুনব।

ইতিহাস তার মাটির সর্বস্ব তুলে দিয়েছিল তাঁর হাতে। আর তিনি দক্ষ কুমোরের মত সেখান থেকে গড়েছেন পুতুল। কালের পুতুল। যা একান্তই বাঙালীর আবহমান কালের গল্প। এক নবযৌবনার প্রেমের গল্প। ঠিক যেন মধ্যযুগের কাদামাটির পথে কোন বেনে তার চকিত চাহনি চেয়ে বসে আছে। গভীর রাতে দুটো হৃদয় অজানা শংকাকে সঙ্গী করে ভাসাচ্ছে নাও।

ইতিহাস যদি নিরাসক্ত সন্ন্যাসী হয়, শরদিন্দু তার রেনেঁসা। আমাদের ইতিহাসের সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ শিল্পী।

Chua Chondon by Sharadindu Bondyopadhyay Chua Chondon is a love story at its core, but with layers of social observation and subtle satire. Set against a modest Bengali backdrop, the story follows the journey of a young man and his somewhat quirky encounters with love, tradition, and the complexities of human nature. There's no dramatic twist or mystery to solve—just everyday moments, made profound through the author's masterful prose and character work. I have to mention Nimai Pandit , who plays a big role in the accomplishment of their union. Overall a good book with cute, lovely romance and simplicity. Rating: 4.5 stars

The story was first published in 1934 in the sixth edition of 'Sharadindu Omnibus'. Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay, a thriller/ horror story writer embarks on a journey to write a story of adventure when his teacher Kaliprasanna Bandyopadhyay indpires him the medieval history of Bengal. The story revolves around two protagonists: Chandan Das, a young merchant who happens to meet the other protagonist Chuya, a spinster daughter of a late merchant at Nabadwip. Her grandmother, Thaan di reveals that Chuya has been forced against marriage by the zamindar nephew of the village who wants to use him for his tantric rituals. Nimai pandit (Chaitanyadeb) eventually becomes the daring hero of the story by helping Chandan escape with Chuya and later get married.

The story line on the book was good. Definitely as because its a graphic novel the actual lingual taste of Saradindu you may not be able to get.Overall the story presentation was good.
From artwork perspective I was abit disappointed.I think on that front it could have been much better.
Still looking at the cost the books is still affordable and can be bought in to read.

চুয়াচন্দন প্রসঙ্গে শরদিন্দু বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় বলেছিলেন "মঙ্গিরে স্কুলের টিচার কালিপ্রশন্ন বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় মধ্যযুগের বাংলার ইতিহাস সম্পর্কে একটি বই পড়তে দেন। সেটি পড়ে শ্রীচৈতন্য এর গোড়ার জীবন নিয়ে একটি গল্প লেখার ইচ্ছে হয়। চুয়াচন্দন ৬ বার লেখা। লেখা শেষে খুব তৃপ্তি হয়েছিলো।"
আসলে ঠিক তৃপ্তি নয়, আমরা আপামর সাহিত্যপ্রেমী তার লেখায় বারবার মুগ্ধ হয়ে হারিয়ে যায় সেই সব মুহূর্তে যা তিনি অনায়াস দক্ষতায় তৈরী করতেন তার লেখনীর মাধ্যমে।
