A wounded K9 needs care while his equally wounded Navy SEAL handler recovers. She falls in love with them both.
Erin Knox has never dealt with a dog as difficult as Wicked, an injured Military War dog, but then, she’s never had a dog with the kind of experience that he’s had. Since being blown up in an IED, the dog has traveled around the world and been separated from his long-time handler, who was also wounded in the blast. It’s going to take a lot of work to foster him. The dog is broken in more ways than one.
Luca Carmichael was told his best friend had died in the explosion in Afghanistan, so it’s a shock when he receives a letter from the woman fostering Wicked back to health. A desolate future suddenly takes on fresh hope and he waits impatiently for every email. As they both heal, he and Erin share more and more of themselves. Before long he’s waiting to hear from her, but not just for a report on Wicked. Would she be willing to take two wounded soldiers into her heart?

3.5 stars.

The romance is sweet without a lot of drama, which I love. I liked both main characters and the dogs, especially Wicked.

I had 2 main problems with the book. The first was the grammatical errors. If you have read other books by this author, you know to expect those. That doesn't excuse the continued lack of a skilled editor. While I have certainly read books much worse than this one, the errors occured often enough to deduct a star.

My second problem was the two mothers. Both portrayed my most hated characterizations: the nosy family member. They also were both very one dimensional. Erin's mother served one purpose: the nosy embarrassing mother hell bent on finding her daughter a man. She had no other scenes in the book except that we are told she took care of the animals when Erin had to be away.

Luca's mother's sole purpose was to be a nosy, controlling bitch. That was it. She hated everything and everyone and was constantly angry at her 30-year-old son for being his own man. I never even got the sense she loved Luca even though we are told she did. She was just a bitch, period. Luckily both Luca and Erin showed some backbone toward their mothers or I would have dnf'd the book based on those two characters alone. Did I mention how much I despise the nosy mother characterization?

Despite my problems with the story, I did like the animals, and I liked the romance between Luca and Erin. It was much better than the first book in this series because at least we got to see the growing connection, friendship, and love between them. Hence, the 3.5 stars here compared to the 2.5 I gave the first book.

I really liked this one, liked that Erin and Luca got to know each other through Wicked. I loved it when Erin brought Wicked to see Luca, both man and dog needed that. It was also fun to see the attraction grow between man and woman as they got to know each other. I was happy when Erin offered the apartment at her house for Luca to recover. I thought the romance would take off from there, was a bit surly when Luca pulled away from Erin, but later when he explained things thought they made sense, especially when he told her he really liked her.

From there it seemed like it was smooth sailing for them both as they navigated their lives. I liked Paul's visit, glad that went well and he left with more than he stopped with. Can imagine him being in the next book, finding his HEA.

I ❤️❤️❤️ this book. Any time I see this author has a new book I lock myself away and devour it.

Luca and Erin’s story was packed with so many emotions. Luca is recovering from his injuries from an IED and thinking his dog didn’t survive. His whole world changes with one email.

Erin is taking care of Wicked. A military dog who has been hurt and now separated from his handler while recovering.

With Erin’s patience and understanding, Wicked slowly starts his recovery. Once Erin contacts Wicked’s handler the flood gates open.

The relationship between Luca and Wicked was so powerful with their devotion to each other. Break out a tissue for their reunion.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This is the second book in J.M. Madden’s “Helping Hands, Healing Hearts” series. In Wicked Healing, Erin Knox owns a service that takes care of animals for working or injured military.

Erin is currently taking care of Wicked, a military dog who was injured when he and his handler ran into an IED. He was severely injured and has a prosthetic for the leg that had to be amputated. Wicked is also severely depressed because he misses his handler.

The first part of the book is an absorbing depiction of how Erin slowly and lovingly works to heal Wicked’s physical and emotional condition.

Eventually, Erin discovers Wicked’s handler, Luca Carmichael, is also in a hospital after being severely damaged at the same time as Wicked. As expected, he is also very depressed because he thinks that Wicked is dead and that it is his fault for ignoring Wicked’s warning.

Ms. Madden devotes the middle of the book to describing how Erin gently and gradually works to heal both victims as she unites Wicked and Luca. After that, this book is an unbelievable depiction of how much Luca and Wicked need each other in order to be able to physically and emotionally heal enough that they can move on.

In her books, Ms. Madden skillfully portrays characters who are severely injured military men or women who need to heal and retrain so they can move on and live normal lives. She also successfully portrays the men and women who love them enough to allow them to be themselves in a successful relationship.

I always expect incredible stories from this author. However, Ms. Madden certainly outdid herself with Wicked Healing!

Erin owns a business that caters to animals, mostly horses, cats and dogs. She is tasked with taking in a wounded military dog named Wicked. His owner, Luca is badly injured himself and doesn't know the dog is alive. He is in a hospital trying to figure things out when he gets an email and pictures from Erin explaining that Wicked is indeed alive but he is injured as well and has a bit of an attitude.

Erin brings Wicked to see Luca and well it was one of the many heartwarming scenes in this story. From there Erin and Luca slowly but steadily fall in love as he and Wicked heal from their injuries. Erin isn't afraid of his scars or the fact that he is an amputee as is Wicked.

Erin has a heart of gold and she is a guiding light for Luca to follow home. Luca's self confidence is at an all time low when they meet but gradually one step at a time he finds himself again. Wicked helps him do that as well. Wicked is an amazing dog as well as smart.

There is a side story as well that I hope will be the next book but I won't reveal that, you need to read it for yourself.

This is an amazing heartwarming story about how wounded vets and their wounded canine partners find they way back. I couldn't put it down and it left me wanting more. I could almost picture Erin's property with her barn and the kennels she uses for the dogs.

Wicked was the main dog but the rest of the crew will steal your heart as well. I can't wait for the next installment of this heartwarming series!

There are authors who I pre-order and wait anxiously for the next book.

Wicked Healing by J.M. Madden is one of my go-to authors and Luca, Erin and Wicked will have you at the first page until the last. I loved how Erin Knox's foster dog Sophie seemed to sense that Wicked needed a friend and she was willing to wait until he accepted her.

Erin Knox has watched deployed service men and women's pets until they could come home again. She knew Wicked, a Navy SEAL MWD, needed to heal until he could be fitted with his prosthesis and she can provide him the TLC he needs . When she finds out his handler was also injured she reaches out to him via email and Face Time which makes both dog and sailor work harder to heal until they can be reunited. She has a meddling mother who wants her daughter to find love little does she know that he'll chose to finish his recovery with Wicked and herself.

Luca Carmichael lost his leg when a IED exploded and was told that his partner Wicked had died. But when Erin Knox reaches out to him letting him know that his dog is alive it gives him the push to heal so that they can be reunited. Once they are reunited he realizes that his new life and home may be with Erin and her ranch they will have a bump in the road but they'll be able to move beyond it. When Luca decides on a new career with Wicked as his partner again will he ask Erin to be his forever love?

The second installment in the “Helping Hands, Healing Hearts” series, I adored the first book, and I really looked forward to this one. I am a HUGE sucker for stories about War Dogs, and I’m an unrepentant J.M. Madden fan – she does Wounded Warrior stories like nobody else!

Erin is great with the dog, Wicked, and the descriptions of Luca’s feelings/connection to Wicked were amazing. I could honestly see how both humans were more attuned to animals than people, and why, especially in Luca’s case.

The romance aspect was a bit different, but this was a fine line to walk, because Erin isn't the kind of woman who is full of self-doubt or insecurities. She’s confident, self-assured, doesn't play emotional games and is generally OK with being alone. I can certainly appreciate that in a female character. A lot of Romances seem to be based on misunderstandings, or characters with serious self-image issues, who pine for a man though, so I can see how some readers would feel unsure or confused as to where the usual “conflict” would come in, moving the plot along.

There wasn't as much humor as in the previous book, but Erin and Luca are more serious people. I’m looking forward to the third book in the series.

There's certain author's that you read anything they write, and then there's certain author's you completely devour in one sitting lol. J.M. Madden is the author of the books I will sit down with and not resurface again until they're done. I cannot express how much I love them. The characters come alive, they have heart, and gumption, and they feel so real.
We heard about Luca's and Wicked's injuries in book 1, now we get to follow their recovery and journey into the next stage of their lives. Luca's only ever known the military, so what do you do when you can no longer do what you love?
Erin loves her job. Animals are her passion, and combine that with helping military personnel with their animals and she's in her element. Helping Carolina with Helping Hands Healing Hearts, she takes in a healing Wicked, and her life's path is now irrevocably changed.
Will Luca trust that his feelings for Erin are real and not gratitude for taking care of Wicked? Can Erin balance that fine line of being a being a helpful friend and not someone who's taking over and doing everything?
I'm on pins and needles waiting for book 3!

This is an amazing read. Very emotional and heartfelt read. A wounded K-9 and a women with a heart of gold, is caring for him, he name is Wicked. Oh and he is not just any K-9 he is A NAVY SEAL All Purpose K-9. What an amazing animal. Erin, that is the lady taking care of the dog, she learns about his handler and more about the dog. She develops a relationship/pen pal with the Handler Luca. It was so emotional to read about Luca the Navy SEAL. Yes he was wounded, and he missed his K9 so Erin brings wicked to see him... OMG, from there on the story really really is so emotional. Seeing Luca and Wicked together, and helping each other heal was amazing. Watching Erin with not only Luca and Wicked was also emotional. It was good, seeing how much Luca and Wicked needed each other and helped one and other. Erin was just so amazing as well. Please have your tissues ready when you read this book... You will need them. This book was so good it is worth so many stars and more.

I did receive a copy of this book, however I chose to review it.......

Erin won my heart from the first page of this book, and Wicked shortly thereafter. She didn't have to find Wicked's handler but she did and the results, well, tears.

Luca wasn't doing well, mentally anyway. His guilt over losing his canine partner was overwhelming. When he read the first email from Erin, his world tipped and he found a new balance.

Erin and Luca maintain a correspondence with pictures and updates. They even planned a visit once Wicked was fitted with prosthetic.

This book triggers so many emotions, I was sniffling almost all the way through. Not in a bad way though.

Luca's mother left much to be desired, she really had no right to do the things she did. The only thing she got right was hiring Healing Hands, Healing Hearts to care for Wicked. At least his father was supportive.

The journey for both the man and the dog was priceless and Erin's role inspiring and romantic.

This is a wonderful, feel good book, with a simmer to sizzle romance but you'll definitely need lots of tissues.

This is the second entry in the Helping Hands, Healing Hearts series. Luca is referred to in the first book, after being injured by an IED, along with his military war dog Wicked. The story opens with Erin, who owns a ranch where she fosters and keeps animals, particularly for deployed servicemembers. When she receives Wicked as a foster, he is depressed and sullen even though he will not bite. Erin begins to work with him and realizes that he needs to be active and realize that his amputated foot and prosthetic can still get him around. She also finds out that his handler, also badly injured, is in San Diego. She contacts Luca and finds out that he had believed that the dog was dead. Therein lies a tale. Erin drives from Phoenix to San Diego to bring Wicked to his human, and there is a mutual falling in love scenario all around.
Madden is attuned to warriors, particularly the "combat-modified" kind. Luca and Wicked have similar injuries and it's a tossup for the reader to figure out which she portrays better! Well done. Deducted a star for all the grammatical errors.

This second book in this series is another touching story about a brave soldier injured in combat.
This time the story belongs to Luca Carmichael . A Navy SEAL who was part of the K-9 unit and his K-9 partner, Wicked. Both severely injured and separated after the IED attack that changed their lives.
When Erin Knox is hired to foster Wicked, she was surprised to find out that his human partner, Luca, was unaware the dog had survived. From the moment that Erin contacts Luca, the friendship blossoms and the two injured veterans commence their healing process.
It’s a story that at times it’s heartbreaking, as well as heartwarming. One that will definitely touch your hearts and remind you of all the sacrifices the brave men and women that serve our country , as well as their families, make for us.
Looking forward to reading more books in the series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

You had me at military war dog. Wicked lost his leg from an IED while protecting his partner, Luca. Luca also lost his leg and sustained several other injuries, his mother thought it best to separate dog from man while he recovered. Erica was contracted through Helping Hands to take care of the dog, recognizing his trauma and emotional needs she instantly understood what was needed to help Wicked. I was immediately a fan of Erica and her special attention to animals, and then recognizing Luca's needs as an injured man needing to maintain his ego and self-respect. Their story flowed easily, allowing both characters to grow and achieve a successful relationship. As part of a series, each story has a different couple, it can be read as a standalone. I received an early copy from the author, review was written voluntarily.

The first one was sooooooooo good so I think my expectations were a little high for this one. I still enjoyed it....a lot...but not as much as the first!

This has everything I love in a novel: strong heroine, wounded/tortured hero, and an amazing K9! The beginning premise and set up was great. I love how these two met and how they had such a strong emotional connection because of their beloved furry friend Boss. The middle dragged on a bit. I just didn't feel like it was going anywhere and I have to admit, I became a little bored with the story. The romance just wasn't developing like I'd hoped it would. Fortunately, the ending picked up and the story came back on track! I really enjoyed how Madden developed Luca's character. She definitely crafted a hero that could sweep any heroine off her feet!

Overall another wonderful story from Madden!

She's done it again folks! J.M. Madden has once again penned a book that you won't be able to put down. Wicked Healing is a contemporary romance with a wounded warrior and a wounded Military War Dog. Erin was asked to board Wicked, an injured dog, by Helping Hands, Healing Hearts. Luca and Wicked were both injured in battle and Luca was told Wicked died. Erin was having no luck with Wicked until she emailed his military handler and he gave her some tips. Erin and Luca's story is filled with drama, humor, sexy bits and a spectacular cast of characters. I loved every page of this book and look forward to my next book by J.M. Madden. Wicked Healing is book 2 of the Helping Hands, Healing Hearts Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I read a print copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Loved it!

This book stole my heart! I first read about The incident that caused Luca & Wicked’s injuries in the first book of this series, and then the excerpt captured my attention. This was such a good read involving the recovery from devastating injuries and deciding to move forward. The impact of the injuries and the separation of the K9 and handler was especially poignant and their eventual reunion even more special.

I loved how Erin’s thoughtfulness at providing updates to Luca was what brought them together first as friends and then romantically. This is a lighthearted read covering a pretty emotional topic and I accepted that from the beginning of the story. This is not an angsty and drama filled story or series.

Fantastic Read

Luca a man who was injured and thought he lost his best partner. Erin a women who's heart was full of love for her animals and those in need. Two amazing characters pulled together threw a emotional rollercoaster. They find things that They never thought they could never have. JM Madden is a Amazing Author who brings you characters that will entangle every emotion you have. The characters embed their story into your life and bring so much emotions that you heart feels like it's busting. Thank you Mrs Madden for yet another unforgettable read. I can't wait to read more

Loved this book. Wounded Warrior and his K-9 partner were both would overseas and were sent to Germany. But the dog was separated from him. He assumed his K-9 was killed. Both their injuries were similar. Erin was asked to take in Wicked and to be honest he was a little hesitant. But the reunion was great between man and dog. Loved the military aspect of this book. Luca is recupperating in rehab center in California. Erin tracked him down to tell him about his dog. His mom a piece of work though. I don't want to say to much and give something away, but this is an excellent read. HEA.

A great book to honorable service men, women and K9 for their sacrifice & struggles with a half ending!

Erin is one of the Angels that walk amount is & riches are not measured in money but gifts of heart & soul. Wicked a K9 navy seal & his partner Luca. They both suffered HER and amputation and fighting back. Luca was not good his partner was alive which could have been deadly. Understanding that bond was critical. The healing, challenges and bonds were great insight. This is a great book for anyone has family & friends serving. It also great for overdone my tradgey and omg my forward. What an amazing new series!!

JM Madden has really given us a phenomenal story with these two characters.

Erin Knox is taking care of a wounded K9 Wicked. She is having a bit of trouble with him as he is a moody dog. But she knows deep down he misses his handler, a wounded Navy SEAL and also is having a time with his injuries. She doesn’t see it as a challenge but she sees it as hope to get the dog recovered.

Luca Carmichael was wounded after an explosion in Afghanistan. Once he was awake from surgeries and was told his best friend his K9 was gone from the explosion. Luca becomes depressed until he gets a letter from Erin saying that she’s helping/fostering Wicked back to good health. That turns Lucas whole world bright again.

Once these two meet sparks fly, feelings are flowing and love starts to bloom. We watch as both Man and Dog Heal. And we watch as Erin and Luca get their happily ever after.

Highly recommended.

An absolutely beautiful story of Luca a SEAL and K9 handler who is very badly injured and his dog Wicked who is also badly injured. The story covers the devastation of losing a limb, your best friend and your reason to live and the hope provided by the very kind and thoughtful lady who fosters Wicked. I loved the first book in this series, J M Madden never fails to deliver , or do brilliant research and I cannot wait for the next book which I'm assuming is Paul and his lovely daughter Hope's story

I thought this was a good, heartfelt, friends to lovers, slow burn story.
Safety: some safety groups would call this not safe. After he moved to her property they kissed and there was a feeling that there could be more to their relationship. He pulled away, they were uncomfortable around each other for two weeks, she accepted a date, there were no sparks and knew they could only be friends. The H saw her leave, felt jealous and realized he should really talk to her about his pulling away.I
Ok epilogue, I was hoping for more

I want your heart...
...every tiny little piece of it!
Omg! I cried buckets of tears reading this book! Book one was really good but this one was fantastic, humbling, motivating...too many emotions to name. Erin, Luca and Wicked all steal pieces of your heart from chapter one and don't stop until they have it all- each one gains your love and respect for very different reasons, but they are so perfect together that you are almost chanting for them as you read. I will be reading this book again and again and I am hoping there are many more books to come.

Healing wicked? ONE OF MY NEW FAVOURITES!! I adored both main characters in this book and wicked is officially my favourite book dog! The animals and the heroines job was a huge part of this books and quite frankly my favourite i floved it!! The chemistry was sizzling of the page for the lead characters but their friendship and kindness they both held toward one another was astoundingly perfect. J.M Madden is a new favourite of mine and i will be reading everything and anything from her from here on out! ❤️

I devoured this book in a few hours, I just couldn't put it down. Wicked stole my heart from the beginning. What an amazing dog, and when he's with Luca? Magic! Erin and Luca were made for each other, and seeing a SEAL (and his K9) recover from something traumatic is always a win. I highly recommend this book, and if you haven't read the first book, Healing Home, start there. I can't wait for more!

This series is extremely heartwarming. J.M. Madden has captured the emotions and struggles that our wounded warriors have to face on a daily basis while still giving us a moving and beautiful love story. In Wicked Healing we find a K9 separated from his handler trying to navigate his war wounds and fit in with his new surroundings. We also meet his handler, Luca, who believes he has lost his best friend and who is struggling to find his new place in the world. Then there is Erin, the woman who is now connected to both. This page-turner will pull at your heartstrings. I anxiously await the next book in this series. I received this as an ARC.
