Iowa The Middle Land took me a piece to finish but the book was mighty interesting! So many events, particularly of a political nature, made me both proud of being an Iowan - and a little cringy. And update from the 1990s forward is needed, but how interesting to read - especially the chapters focused on 1920s-50s.

The best available survey of Iowa history. Unfortunately, she does not give much coverage to political history because she believes that is adequately covered by Leland Sage's history of Iowa, which is, indeed, thorough and reliable, but deadly dull.

This book was really fascinating, even though I was required to read it for a class. However, I really wish it could've been arranged in more of a chronological order.
