The creators of the blockbuster podcast The Adventure Zone bring their talents to Marvel for a wild romp through THE WAR OF THE REALMS! Earth is at war, besieged by an army of Frost Giants, Trolls and Fire Goblins — and the mighty Thor is nowhere to be found! But could it be that the key to turning the tide is…Thor’s baby sister? Journey into Mystery with Spider-Man (Miles Morales), Hawkeye (Kate Bishop), Wonder Man, and Balder the Brave as they go on an epic quest to save Earth’s only hope! (And, yes, deal with diaper duty.)
Clint McElroy is the father of Justin, Travis, and Griffin McElroy. He does the Adventure Zone podcast with them and has also appeared on several Maximum Fun donors-only bonus episodes.
This is the first comic I've bought in years and read right away! I'd initially gone to my local comic book store, but they were sold out within a few hours of being open! What an absolutely delightful premise, and a wonderful journey we're being led on by this good bunch of brothers! If you enjoy superheroes, comedy and writing that put those comedians on Netflix to shame (in my personal opinion), then give this a shot!
While the art was a little inconsistent, this was a fun story. We get Balder the brave and Thori ( I have been reading the current Thor run and I love Thori) an Asgardian going around America putting together a rag tag team to protect Thor’s new little sister. A lot of fun and action come along with this journey. Plus a crazy cameo at the end.
This one issue had it all, folks. Heart, struggle, action, and cute moments. I was thrilled when two of my all time heroes (Miles and Kate) were said to be in this. They were written spectacularly! Keep it up, gents!
Eu nem ia ler isso, não aguento mais megassagas com mil tie-ins. Mas a história do podcaster que foi escalado para escrever essa mini me interessou e valeu a pena, história divertidíssima, ótimo pique e ideias. Ponto negativo pra arte.
Hilarious and a great intro to the story. I’ve never really known where to start with comic books but when the McElroys announced they were doing a series, I knew I had to support them. The comic does make references to past events, but they let you know what’s important so you don’t feel lost. I relate extremely to Baldur and I love their writing of Miles & Kate. Great start!!
I knew that War of the Realms was going to be a major event, but it still never occurred to me that it would bring so many different characters into the mix. I guess I should have seen that coming though, huh? Marvel is somewhat well known for its events, after all.
Inessential to WOTR... no matter what the reading guides say. Also, this was kind of a mess. Funny sometimes, but it tried to cover too much... which is kinda par for the course in these limited series even tie-ins. Feel free to skip.
I have to admit that I'm a McElroy fan first, and a Marvel fan second, so this series is shaping up to be perfect for me. While the plot and dialogue were fairly straight forward, the McElroy-ness shown through in some cases (Oklahoma! reference! "I'm not actually made of spiders"!) I'm also a big fan of many of the character who are teaming up, namely Kate Bishop. Now that West Coast Avengers has been canceled (WHY GOD WHY), I'm glad to see her be a part of another team. Overall, this was a promising start, and hopefully, everything will kick off soon.
A really cool mix of marvel and marvel 2.0 which made it amazing to read. I feel like I have missed some of the story which made it difficult to understand at times but still an amazing read that I can’t wait to see how it changes.
First time in my life I'm actually trying to follow one of Marvel's big events. It is... annoying as hell, to be honest, though the individual pieces are interesting enough. I don't usually solve puzzles one piece a week. Anyway, about this one - liked the weird line-up of heroes, could be fun, high hopes for the writing of brothers McElroy and their dad.
