The Riot Grrrl Movement: The Feminism of a New Generation

Rate this book
Our new books address health and safety concerns for young adults in a comprehensive and informative context. This book explores the ways in which feminism and punk rock merged in the 1980s and 1990s to create a girl-centered subculture. This book traces the development of this movement into the present day. It also explains the ways in which riot grrrls continue to merge music and feminist politics on the fringes of mainstream culture.

Despite the promise the title of this book makes, it is not EVERYTHING you need to know about Riot Grrrl, but it is a decent start. Sadly enough, I was still impressed that the library even owns this books. It tells you how Riot Grrrl started, but in my opinion leaves out a lot of the ideas and principles of the movement. Maybe they are just too long and complicated to be listed in a 55 page books with 18 pt font...

This is a very clear history of the Riot Grrrl movement.
It does not touch on the heavier side of the movement and more of the bands and publications but it is not meant for adults; this is junior non-fiction

A book about riot grrrl for young people, in a series with books with topics like "Everything You Need to Know about Divorce"--very strange and adorable, even though it mislabels a picture of The Slits as X-Ray Spex
