Code Green is about discovering a more authentic travel experience. One that will challenge, change and inspire you. It's about a connection. The connection you make with places of beauty. The connection you make with people who lead very different live from you. And it's about making connections in a sustainable way, so that the same opportunities will be there for the future. Code Green is an alert to the need for change in the way we travel. It draws together almost 100 responsible travel experiences from across the planet, from budget backpacking to serious luxury, all linked by three defining principles; tread lightly on the environment, immerse yourself in the culture and have a positive economic benefit for the local community.
Wish it was more focused on general sustainable/responsible/eco travel tips rather than specific experiences. I did get some understanding of general principles and how tourism can be beneficial to communities from it.
"Ecotourism" is described by the International Ecotourism Society as "responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people."
A much better definition than the one I came up with at 4:30 in the morning when Becky asked.
Cool pictures. Good list of resources for those looking into volunteer vacations or wondering about the places to avoid when traveling green. Though, for readers with little-to-no experience in international travel, this book can leave you feeling more than a little lost.
A Another great LP travel book. Tons of great ideas on green, eco-travel and volunteering travel trips. It's all about traveling sustainably, and they really think of it in terms of so many different ways. Really good stuff! Great photos and some interesting ideas I would love to travel to....
