Written for the short course--where content must be thorough but to-the-point--Fundamentals of Organic Chemistry provides an effective, clear, and readable introduction to the beauty and logic of organic chemistry. McMurry presents only those subjects needed for a brief course while maintaining the important pedagogical tools commonly found in larger books. With clear explanations, thought-provoking examples, and an innovative vertical format for explaining reaction mechanisms, Fundamentals takes a modern primary organization is by functional group, beginning with the simple (alkanes) and progressing to the more complex. Within the primary organization, there is also an emphasis on explaining the fundamental mechanistic similarities of reactions. Through this approach, memorization is minimized and understanding is maximized.
in his name\ just want to say: OH MY GOD.. finally finished! chemistry is a beautiful science and in this book we can learn more bout organic chemistry, a subset of chemistry for example about several types of compounds and their reactions. it will be efficient for those who are interested in chemistry
Covering a typically confusing topic can be quite daunting. That being said, this textbook does a relatively decent job covering essential ochem material. I often found the explanations could be further simplified and the material presented in a less convoluted manner. The practice problems, though, were very well written, in my opinion, as they accurately tested the reader on the material covered in the section. Overall, a decent enough textbook in need of simplifying revisions.
Whatever, this was obviously for a class. The book was fine, just an Organic Chem textbook, so pretty much what you would expect from that. I am trying to not let my complete hatred of this professor influence my judgement of the book, so it is getting 3 stars.
