I think this book was written with a younger audience in mind, perhaps middle school or high school, and so this book ends up being a bit ho hum and passe. But Rita Gilbert does a much better job of covering some of the same concepts with a broad variety of visual examples, in her book "Living with Art." For even more depth than that, and more than most people would want, Rudolf Arnheim is my man, with his book "Visual Perceptions."
