TENTORIA

Rate this book
Halfway through the 22nd century, mankind enters into a new world war to produce the first generation of Tentorians: an army of bionic humans made up as a last ditch solution to establish peace. With functioning bodies and human intelligence, they are the first genuine success in the artificial improvement. In time, the Tentorians come officially to be a nation, showing more and more their true nature: blood and power-thirsty, human-bodied machines. Thus, in the 25th century, the great powers made up their minds to hunt them down all over the world and have them isolated inside a region called TENTORIA.

Will the springing of this nation bear consequences on the past?
The action moves back in time 500 years, to the year 2024. Cole is a 27 year old young man leading a happy life in a peculiar world: a planet Earth consisting but of a piece of land surrounded by one single large ocean, and a population of 12 million people ruled by a secret organization. As the story unfolds, he realizes the reality of his existence at break-neck speed on the edge of survival.

"TENTORIA" raises questions on human values, the conflict between virtual and reality, between present and future; on mankind’s hope of living into a concrete, non-virtual world away from the technological drug we grow increasingly addicted to while seeping deeper and deeper inside our body.

Very entertaining book, much like a movie: interesting ideas for a future dystopian world, intensely based on a huge scientific advance, full of action. I may have rounded the stars a little, but it was only because I was well-pleased by this Romanian author's work.

First of all I want to say that this book is somehow better than I supposed it might initially be after seeing it published online. Well, the underlying idea looks at a cursory sight pretty intricate with all the time related paradoxes taking effect into an imaginary world both bleak and thrilling where criminal minds running out of control attempt to have their way of society imposed no matter the consequences (sounds familiar, isn't that so?) but after all the reading proved engrossing and worthwhile. For those still not minding using their brains and power of imagination this book really makes sense reading.

Intriga e relativ simpla:
- Pe de o parte este Tentoria, o natiune de oameni bionici, de oameni dependenti total de tehnologie, care se dezvolta de-a lungul a patru secole, mereu avizi de putere si gata sa distruga orice bariera a eticii umanitatii. Pentru ei evolutia este ceea ce conteaza, adevaratele sentimente, simturi, elemente care ne definesc fizic, care ne fac oameni nu au nicio valoare;
- Cele doua intra intr-un conflict si de aici pleaca totul ;

In special in prima parte a ei m-a pierdut putin.

The premise of Tentoria is excellent. Technology run amok meets the dark side of humanity, beginning with a benevolent promise that is twisted by greed and eventually hollows out people’s souls. Think “Cyborg” and “Universal Soldier” blended together, and you get a vision of a future where everything is at a person’s fingertips but it’s never enough.

The opening sequence was a little awkward, featuring two brief political speeches separated by a mysterious crash near a beach. And there are parts where the term “technology” meant anything and everything technological, but nothing specific—as if all tech was contributing to the erosion of the human condition.

Nemilo and Kaligor, both Tentorians, did veer into the megalomaniacal spectrum. Their mannerisms and speech are exaggerated, and clearly the result of their perceived superiority over everybody else, which made them wonderfully evil. But Arnar was the character that held an interesting promise and buildup.

The time span covered by the book was surprising, but the contexts were switched well. The sections that surfaced the past helped round many of the characters, including the aforementioned Tentorians.

Where the book excelled was in the combat sequences. This is where the tech gets real, and its consequences become vividly apparent. 100:1 becomes inconsequential if the tech divide is wide. Various military programs to develop enhanced soldiers suggest that the vision outlined in this book is likely not a matter of if, but when.

Ultimately, look past the conquest of nature, beyond the medical miracles that people crave, and it’s a book about humans losing their humanity. This central theme binds all the various sections and time spans, and offers a glimpse of a fading future where humanity evolves into uncaring machines rather than succumbing to the unintentional militant inclinations of a runaway AI. This is a fun, light, easy to follow and thought-provoking read!

It didn't feel like a typical SciFi book but more like SciFi american movie script, for some reason. I can't say I didn't enjoy it but it was different. It's easy to read and even though it seems sometimes that the action is easy to predict, it ends up surprising you. I liked the second half more than the first which was slower, setting up the background of the story.

The ending felt a bit too straight up and hurried, as if the book just had to end already, so a couple of things are left unanswered. Also it is definitely written as if it were translated from english, even some expressions make no sense in Romanian and yet they still appear. I couldn't figure out why it was written like that

Tech action!

This is a cautionary tale about technology, about its dangerous potential if left unchecked on the hands of unscrupulous individuals whom would use it to their advantage to commit heinous crimes. I would not consider this narration far fetched as we are already experiencing some of the problems people are experiencing in the Tantoria universe. I enjoyed the main plot but some of the execution I found a little redundant, for avid sci-fi action readers there might be a little too much backtracking but I guess for some could've been just right. The young romance between the main characters was somewhat superfluous since I felt it was of no significant on the main plot; nevertheless, it must've been an author's afterthought for a female fan base, lol!

The book is a very imaginative exploration of what the advance technology could bring to our future. Great plot for a movie!

Interesting concept, interesting setting. The story is somewhat captivating, but not very satisfying, plus it does seem to have copied many Hollywood cliches (in a book, I know).

The romantic side is VERY underdeveloped, too idealistic and... unreal. For me, at the very least.

Good book, overall, I would say. Not terrible, not great.

One of the most eye opening books about something that could very well happen in our future.
Great for anyone trying to find a meaning for today's and future society!

I would have given it five stars but as nobody's perfect I think this mirrors the true ups and downs of the book just shy of making the list of the best novels in this genre.

Tentoria is a captivating novel that grips you from the start with its fast-paced action and intricately woven plot. The story weaves beautifully through time, both past and future, unfolding a plot that feels both imaginative and disturbingly close to reality. The descriptions are so vivid, it’s like watching a movie play out in your mind. You may even find yourself casting actors for the roles as you read.
Set in a future that feels just a breath away, the book explores thought-provoking dilemmas that resonate deeply. Whether the characters fall on the side of good or bad, they never lose their energy or ability to surprise. They stay alive in your mind, adding depth and complexity to the narrative.

With its blend of vivid imagination, emotional senstivity, and a conclusion that feels authentic and open-ended, like life itself, Tentoria leaves a lasting impression.
