Moon Lists is a guided journal structured around the phases of the moon. It provides a place to note feelings of gratitude and moments of mindfulness while celebrating the turn of the seasons.
Loosely organized around the phases of the moon and punctuated with references to '70s astrology, architecture, and art, Moon Lists encourages journalers to stop and reflect on the precious moments in their lives before time passes them by. A set of evolving monthly writing prompts and suggestions for physical activities can be completed individually or with a partner, and will offer readers some perspective on the present and their recent past.
This one was a recommendation I picked up from Kevin Kelly's newsletter, Recommendo. Every morning, I go through a set of daily and weekly journals/devotionals. I started using this book every Monday about eighteen months ago, and have really enjoyed it. I just finished the first book and looking through it I've realized just how helpful it will be to provide a snapshot of where I was at in any given point of time. It's quirky, and each week it will ask you to record something different - a memento from you week you still have, something that stood out to each of your five senses that week, five different things that interest you now, etc. If you like daily reads or journaling, add this book to your routine and you will enjoy it.
The most substantial relationship we have is with self. So a book inviting us to reflect with more curiosity and awareness is a Bible in that regard. Igniting prompts to check in with our weeks, months and different approaches to cycles or seasons, Moon Lists is a friend that comes out to ritualise how we learn, see, do, consume, play and understand. Started early 2020 and finished early 2022, I savored each week of prompts and visited them when needing to be asked to come closer to me. Looking forward to the second edition.
I don't think that I'm the right audience for this book. I've tried unsuccessfully for about six months to use it to inspire daily meditations. I'm giving up. If you are looking for "questions and rituals for self-reflection" this may be the book for you, but if you can check out some of them first perhaps you should just to make sure they will be useful to you. I saw this recommended by someone I respect, so I suspect it's just me.
I liked the sensory aspect and some of the prompts were creative, but I don't think the vibe would be right for me. I do like the idea of a guided journal built around lists, though. And I LOVE Pina Bausch.
This weekly guided journal helped me get back into journaling and reflecting. I love the simple and open-ended format to take the pressure off coming up with something to say. I already have another one in my Amazon cart so I can start over.
