In a small kingdom somewhere in the Himalayas, the beautiful young Princess Ramya cannot sleep. It all started soon after her mother, the queen, passed away, when the princess was only twelve. Her father, the king, tries everything to make his little princess sleep, but nothing works. The princess develops such an inability to sleep that she becomes known in her kingdom and far beyond as the Sleepless Beauty. The king wishes Princess Ramya to marry and take over the reins of government, but the princess is determined not to marry till such time as her sleep is restored. Eventually, the king announces a competition whereby whichever prince succeeds in getting Princess Ramya to sleep will win her hand. Meanwhile deadly foes of the kingdom wait and watch in the wings, planning to launch a surprise attack. This exciting, romantic tale, with comic interludes, will appeal to readers of all ages.
Princess Ramya is beautiful inside and out. Everything was normal but when she was five, the Queen passed away and with her demise, princess became the sleepless beauty.
She just couldn't sleep anymore at night. Years later there was still no cure found for the princess' sleeplessness.
Finally, The King declared with princess' consent that Princess Ramya will be married to a prince who can cure her sleeplessness.
Will any prince be able to cure her sleeplessness? What is the reason behind Ramya's sleepless nights?
The Sleepless Beauty is a sweet tale, it has a kind of innocence that melts your heart. The story is interesting to read and quite gripping. The reason behind princess' sleeplessness was also a really sweet one. The whole story is very heart - warming to read. The Sleepless beauty is a short and simple book dripping with innocence. Easy and effortless writing style and interesting storyline makes it worth reading.
The first half is so much better considering everything. The writing, the introduction of the characters as well as the initiation of the main plot.
However, the writing becomes a bit tedious towards the second half and it becomes a bit dull in the end when it should become more fun and adventurous.
I liked the king and his daughter, the sleepless princess. Otherwise the rest of the characters didn't make much impact. The story started out good but the ending felt like the hype in the first half wasn't for anything.
I wish for a better and genuine storyline for new books.
The sleepless beauty follows the story of a beautiful princess named Ramya. She suffers from extreme insomnia and haven’t slept for years. Her loving father King Bhoj was worried and tried everything to make the princess get a good and serene rest but all his efforts went in vain.
As Ramya grew, she became more beautiful and courageous but the problem of sleeplessness still persisted. Soon King Bhoj expressed the wish to see his daughter get married and take the reign of his glorious kingdom. But the princess refused to get wed and her answer was justified given the circumstances.
Then the king came up with a solution to which the princess also agreed. There would be a competition and both of them will select princes from nearby kingdom and who ever would succeed in making Ramya asleep, will marry her. The four chosen competitors were all uniquely talented.
Can the princess’s insomnia be cured? Will she find solace as well as love? As each prince try their own methods only one will be able to win her heart.
The sleepless beauty was an amazing read right from the beginning. The story line was original and it was refreshing to read a fairy-tale with phenomenal characters whom I absolutely adored.
If you are looking for a good and enjoyable story with some hilarious situations then I will definitely recommend you to pick this book. You’ll fall in love with the story just like I did. 😊
Fairy tales are taking us in dream land. But if you can not sleep how can you see dreams? This is a medical condition also named insomnia. Sleep is required for body just like air, food and water. If we cannot sleep our body face adverse consequences.
In the lap of Himalayas there is a kingdom where princess Ramya can not sleep. She was not always like this but somewhere down the line this insomnia gripped her. the king is worried as there are enemies lurking in the neighbourhood and he is getting old. Ramya has to take over the reins but she is not able to sleep and work effectively. Then he ann0ounces a competition that whoever makes her sleep will marry her. Many princes from neighbouring kingdom come with there out of the box remedies and try to cure her. will she ever be ok again?
The story is interesting and keep your interest going. The remedies suggested by some prince are hilarious. I personally liked the yoga prince and his shaking therapy. The final solution is simplistic but works in a fairy tale.,
The Sleepless Beauty by Rajesh Talwar is a short story inspired by “The Sleeping Beauty” fairy tale. Set in India, this short read takes the readers to a mountainous kingdom of Bangra whose sole Princess Ramya is afflicted with sleeplessness. She hasn’t been unable to sleep since years and despite every effort made by her father, her sleep is still missing. To help cure her sleeplessness and also find a suitable match for her, the King announces a contest where anyone who helps restore her sleep will win her hand in marriage.
I love reading fairy tales and books inspired by fairy tales. This one attracted me with the alluring title and captivating cover. A story that easily had me engaged, the narration is fluid and simply done. The language is such that even children can read it. I loved traveling to Bangra and meeting the characters. The many Princes who come with conventional and unconventional ways to cure the Princess’ sleeplessness had me smiling.
Princess Ramya is a beauty both inside and out. She is strong, wise and dutiful. Her love for her kingdom as well as her father is an inspiration to young readers.
Raja Bhoj’s love for his daughter and his relentless efforts to restore his beloved daughter’s sleep are endearing. He is symbolic of a true King and a perfect father who loves his subjects and is devoted to his daughter.
However, despite my enjoyment, there are a few points that I think could be improved on to make this book even more appealing. First is the discrepancy in the fourth Prince’s home kingdom. At one place it is Hastinapur and at another it is Prayag. Secondly, I was left thinking how the King sought to keep the Princess in Bangra after her marriage. He sought Princes from other kingdoms so wasn’t it the norm that after marriage she would leave Bangra? Thirdly, I feel the book needs editing. There are a few places where the sentences didn’t make sense. Fourthly, I feel this book should come with illustrations to make the fairy tale more appealing to young readers for whom it is clearly intended and also be made available as a paperback for readers who don’t read e-books.
All in all, a quick read that makes for an entertaining story to tell to your kids as well as a book that will be loved by children, I enjoyed reading The Sleepless Beauty by Rajesh Talwar. A simple yet endearing story advocating the power of a true love’s kiss, I give it 3 out of 5 stars and Njkinny recommends it to all lovers of fairy tales, both young and adult.
THE SLEEPLESS BEAUTY by RAJESH TALWAR is a book of childhood fantasy with a new story and plot which must excite the children in this time of home lockdown. The concept is fresh and well written.
Princess Ramya, a stunning young princess from a small kingdom in the Himalayas, is unable to sleep. It all began when the princess was just twelve years old, shortly after her mother, the queen, died. Her father, the king, tries everything he can to put his little princess to sleep, but it doesn't work. The princess develops such an inability to sleep that she becomes recognised as the Sleepless Beauty in her kingdom and beyond. The king wants Princess Ramya to marry and take over the country, but she is adamant that she will not marry until her sleep is restored. The king wants Princess Ramya to marry and take over the country, but she is adamant that she will not marry until her sleep is restored. The king eventually declares a competition in which the prince who succeeds in lulling Princess Ramya to sleep will be awarded her hand.
This book has a well-crafted storyline with an engaging plot for children especially. Although I enjoyed it so much. Readers of all ages will enjoy this entertaining, romantic storey with comic interludes. I missed the illustration in this book. There should be illustration I believe.
This should be recommended to all the mothers for the bedtime stories to their beloved child. Also if you want to take a sip of children literature you can give it a try.
As the book is short, I will keep my reviews short. As we can predict from name and cover, it’s a fairy tale. But the thing I loved the most about it is majority fairy tales are written based on western culture while this one is based on Indian culture. It’s the story of a princess named Ramya. The king Bhoj was childless for many years and after that he blessed with a beautiful princess. The fortune tellers predicted that she will be the most beautiful princess but she will also suffer from sleeplessness. Initial few years went well but one day the Queen died and princess started having troubles sleeping. Read the book to unfold further plot.
I loved the plot and the way it’s written. It’s written in simple and easily understandable language so everyone and kids can also enjoy. Story hold your attention till the end. I am always fascinated by the fairy tales. When I was young, my father didn’t bought me or tell fairy tales as majority fairy takes are written in such a way that prince comes and saves the princess and they get married and lives happily ever after. He didn’t want to input that mentality in me. I guess he was also correct but till today I am obsessed with fairy tales and especially due to Disney movies. Overall good one. Definitely recommended and a must read to fairy tales lovers!
All of us, in our childhood, has read the story of "The Sleeping Beauty". We all love the story, don't we? The princess in the story couldn't wake from her sleep and here, the princess can't go to sleep.
The book gives the strength to the aspects of- art, culture, feminism and everything that was considered "weird" at the medieval times. Set in the Himalayan ranges, the story revolves around the princess, Ramya, and her father, Raja Bhoja, desperately trying to put her daughter back to sleep after she has stopped sleeping. This happened soon after the death of her mother. The book is set with the intention to cure this malady of the princess by everybody around her.
This story doesn't really have the original idea, but the writing skills are pretty good. The princess here is sleepless, contrary to the long-lasting sleep of the princess in the "The Sleeping Beauty". The cure remains the same. The tries and tests are different, the end is sam- A HAPPILY EVER AFTER. The book, though, needs editing.
°Story line -the story reminds us of a princess who couldn't sleep princess Ramayaa was a princess of the bangaara when she was born a saint predicted her future he said that she will suffer from sleep less in her whole life...
Both of them collectively find out a solution to this by having a competition with princes from kingdoms for a wide would participate and whoever will be able to put princess Ramya to sleep would not only win the competition but also marry her and he would become the next King off bangara......
I recommend the book for beginners and childrens.....❤️
Blurb: THE WEST GAVE THE WORLD 'THE SLEEPING BEAUTY'. NOW, FROM THE EAST, COMES ANOTHER CHARMING AND EXCITING FAIRY TALE - 'THE SLEEPLESS BEAUTY'!!

Her father, the king, tries everything to make his little princess sleep, but nothing works. My review: A fairytale, based on the Indian culture. Sounds great right? It indeed is a great book. Lovely plot. Lovely characters. The reader keeps on reading until it is the last page. Importance of love is clrealy depicted through the characters and plot. A must read for all the fairytale lovers.
Its a simple short story of a princess - Ramya, who suffers from insomnia since her mother's demise. Hoping to cure his daughter's sleeplessness, the King sends out open invitation to princes from various kingdoms and offers his daughter for marriage to tue prince who succeeds in getting her sleep back. The story is about how the princess finds back her sleep.
Just one observation of mismatch of information: At one place, the author has written that the 4th prince is from Hastinapur and in another place, its written that he hails from Prayag!
This book's a retelling of Sleeping Beauty except here the princess can't sleep. It was a fun short read. I liked the theme of the book a lot though the ending was a bit anticlimatic. The characters were amazing and beautifully described. If there had been more twists and turns, I would have definitely given it 5 stars. All in all, it was a fun read. If you're looking for a nice cosy short story, you can give this one a try.
The sleepless beauty . OMG ..!! What a book. I finished this book in less than 45 min. Though it was an interesting read. From childhood I always like reading stories like this. I must author did commendable job by writing such a great story. It's a very light read. . Starting from cover it's good looking and it's more like a children's book yet attractive. Our protagonist ramya (princess) suffer high level of insomnia. Haven't slept for more than months.(want to know why she didn't sleep read this book). From childhood her parents take care of her. One day her mother died. . The king bhoj become so worried about ramya and ask her to get married but, she says no. And story talk about her childhood and relationship with parents. Because of her insomnia king arrange one computation (win win situation for both) the prince for nearly kingdom who make princess asleep will marry to her. . Then all prince come for this competition and they try there best with whatever talent they have everyone failed expect one do you want to know who is he? How did he managed to fall asleep princess? Read this. . Talking about narration, it's good one. In just 21 chapter author managed to write a great story with awesome message that we never thought. At first I predicted the ending but, its not what I thought that's where I fall in love with this book. . The ending is so so beautiful, i neve thought such a way this book will end. But, loved it. I know it's fairy tale but, like how princess survived one two years without sleep than can be negligible as it's children book. . In a nutshell a perfect book of new readers and children.
The Sleepless Beauty is such an endearing read ! With a totally unique plot showing the importance of the basic things of life like love, family, closeness with our loved ones, this is a short and good read. . . . . Princess Ramya, a beautiful and strong princess is the only heir to her father's kingdom. She's just excellent at everything and a fit heir, except her lack of concentration due to prolonged sleeplessness for around 7 years ! . . . The story begins with King Bhoj, his kingdom, then his marriage to Queen Mohini and then the birth of their little princess Ramya. This story beautifully proceeds with Ramya's sleeplessness and the hunt for a solution to this problem. . . . Well, now to know the reason for years of sleeplessness and the possible and bizzare solutions to this, you gotta read this book ! . . .
The characters were lovely and so was the story. The narration could have been a little better. The fun element, the relationship between parents and their child, the importance of showing love, the pace of the story, the uniqueness of the plot, everything was really good and it was an absolute fun read !
First and foremost, I thank the author for his undivided patience and hope in my work. Due to unforeseen circumstances and technical difficulties (the Kindle app was troubleshooting in my previous phone, ugh), this review had to get delayed by two months. So, I apologize for the same.
The Sleepless Beauty is a unique take on the western fairytale, The Sleeping Beauty, with a pinch of humour, and a brilliant storyline. Being my first fairytale read for a review, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and I would definitely recommend you to pick up The Sleepless Beauty next!
The plot structure is very much influenced by all the fairytales we have been reading since childhood. However, this book approaches the genre of fairytales in a unique way. While most fairytales introduce you to the leading lady in very first page, The Sleepless Beauty begins with a prologue from the perspective of the subjects of Bangra. I found this quote interesting. Instead of adopting the conventional way of narratorial intrusion to introduce the reader to the protagonist, we come to know about Princess Ramya from thr conversations happening within a small family. Secondly, the author sheds off all relations that might be shared with The Sleeping Beauty. This particular retelling is on its own, meandering through the mild twists and turns of the plot. It would be better to call this an independent story instead of a retelling. Thirdly, the characterisation in this story is indeed good. Usually, retellings adopt characters from its predecessor and try to create (or recreate) a new perspective of viewing that same old story. The Sleepless Beauty has it's own independent set of characters, Al of whom are significant to the developments in the story. The fourth reason why I liked the book so much is somewhat related to #3 — how the antagonist is presented in the story. While The Sleeping Beauty has an old witch to blame for Princess Aurora's eternal sleep (but I cannot hate that witch so much, after Angelina Jolie's breathtaking performance in Maleficent), The Sleepless Beauty presents the cause in a unique way altogether. And I am not going to tell you how. *evil grin* However, what I loved most about this retelling is that The Sleepless Beauty has a liberal take on gender roles. Fairytales have always been centered around the idea of "the knight in shining armour coming to rescue the damsel in distress". Princess Ramya, however, is a headstrong character who chooses to be her own guardian. Most of all, the concept of primogeniture is turned upside down, in terms of gender as well.
I convey my best wishes to the author for his future endeavours.
Princess Ramya of Bangra Kingdom suffers from sleeplessness and this trouble started after her mother, Queen Mohini passed away when Ramya was only twelve. The King Bhoj tries multiple ways to put Ramya to sleep but all in vain. The princess grows up with this trouble, and when the King wants to get her married, she has a condition that she wants to marry the Prince who can help get rid of her sleeplessness.
Ramya is well aware that her sleeplessness is now causing lack of concentration and at times even making her fall unconscious and that she cannot marry unless she can come out of this condition. The King is also concerned about his growing age and enemy scare and hence sends out note to all kingdoms about his daughter’s problem, inviting Princes who can cure Ramya. After much scrutiny, the King and the princess select few eligible suitors to further meet and cure this condition. The rest of the story is about if Ramya will finally find a solution for her condition that was almost assumed to be incurable. What will finally help solve the problem which was beyond the reach of medicines and herbs?
Fairy tales and folklore in Indian fiction have majorly explored known mythological characters and stories and hardly attempt to go beyond the popular stories. The Sleepless beauty is one such heart warming feel-good story of how a very beautiful, smart and intelligent princess suffers from a weird problem, and how she ultimately chooses the right partner who can cure her disease once and for all.
At only 90 pages, this makes for a short read and stays true to the story without any unwanted content or dragging. However, writer should have taken more care towards few details to make it sound more authentic and true to the timelines of the story, like avoiding references like Papa by the princess. Also, some sequences with the Doctor Prince are unintentionally amusing. If these minor flaws can be ignored, this is one story which is thoroughly entertaining and engaging from start to end which is a must read sweet fairy tale.
The Sleepless Beauty written by Rajesh Talwar is a fairy tale. Princess Ramya hasn’t slept for years because of extreme insomnia and King Bhoj’s all effort went in vain. The princess continued to be wakeful for years. Days go by and King Bhoj is really worried and request princess to get married. But Princess Ramya is not in concurrence with her father about marriage proposals. Finally they decided to conduct a competition, whoever succeeds in the process of making the princess to get a good sleep, will marry her.
What is the real reason behind the princess sleeplessness? Will someone will be able to win the competition? Rest of the story will give you the answer. I’m not going to spend time going over the plot details, as it’s really not necessary.
It was a quick, fun, and unsophisticated read. It was nice to read a fantastical/paranormal standalone book for a change and could just be appreciated as is. The setting of fairy tales is often equivocal and therefore, can be equated to almost any place in real life.
This novel was addicting. I absolutely loved Rajesh Talwar's writing technique. It had a wonderful flow and was easy to read, plus it told an astounding story. There are always similarities amongst stories featuring fairies, but I thought the author's attempt was notably unique and pleasant one. Rajesh Talwar’s characters were majestic. I loved Princes Ramya’s character; she was a charming, courage and relatable character.
In total …this one is an awesome debut novel, and again … awesome fairy novel. It's such a sweet and indigenous story, and I'm positive other readers will love it more than I do….
This one will keep you glued to the pages and guessing until the very end. Well-written, funny, and touching--a can't miss! I advocate you, if you’re in the mood for a light, feel good read, pick up this book and allow yourself to be swept away into this grown up fairy world…..
Rajesh Talwar's latest book, The Sleepless Beauty, is a beautiful fairy-tale which narrates the story of a young Princess Ramya. She lives in a small kingdom near the Himalayas. When her mother, Queen Mohini passes away, the princess was only at a tender age of twelve. As a result of this tragic incident, Princess Ramya suffers from insomnia. Her father, King Bhoj, tries all efforts to make the princess sleep, but all end in vain. Nothing can help her to fall asleep. The princess grew up, but this problem of her sleeplessness remained. She came to be known as the 'Sleepless Beauty'. Eventually, the king comes up with a competition, in which whoever will succeed in getting the princess to sleep, will get her hand in marriage. The story takes exciting turns with romantic and comic elements which will surely make you fall in love with the tale. To know more about what happens to Princess Ramya, you have to read the book.
This book is very different from the last book that I have read by the author. The previous one was a very serious non-fiction about the mystery related to the vanishing of Subhas Chandra Bose. But, this one belongs to a completely different genre and is really beautiful. The plot is quite interesting. As is evident from the title of the book, it is kind of the Indian version of the popular western fairy-tale, The Sleeping Beauty, with certain twists and turns. It is written in easy language and the narrated really well. This book reminded me of my childhood days when I used to read all the fairy-tales of Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel and so on. It is a simple and light read and took me an hour to complete reading.
The book is so engaging that it has the capability to appeal to children and adults alike. If you want to read something light and breezy, and need to relax for a while, pick this book up. You won't be disappointed.
The Sleepless Beauty by Rajesh Talwar is a beautiful fairytale which instantly reminds us of those Disney fairy tales which are just too perfect to be true.
Just as those fairy tales teach us all about love, affection and care, this story is all aboutove and affection among the characters. The bond between a mother and daughter, a father and daughter is so beautifully described by the author.
The plot of the story is very well constructed with perfect narration and vocabulary. It is a short read of about an hour considering an average speed Reader
The story is about a princess, Ramya who finds it impossible to sleep after her mother, Queen Mohini's death. Princess Ramya not only suffers from her mother's loss but also from extreme insomnia which concerns the whole kingdom including her father, Kind Bhoj. He tries everything in his power to put his beloved daughter to sleep but all in vain. So after a long time of 7 years, the princess is still struggling with insomnia, considering which the King decides to marry her to the perfect Prince. But Rmaya refuses this proposal at once, afraid that she might not be able to carry out her duties and responsibilities as a Queen in this condition of hers. Both of them collectively find out a solution to this, by having a competition where Prince's from kingdoms far and wide would participate and whoever will be able to put princess Ramya to sleep, would not only win the competition but also marry her and become the next King of Bangra.
The story gets more and more exciting and gripping as it unfolds. To find out who finally put Ramya to sleep and how, grab a copy of this beautiful novel right away!
As a kid, everyone would have read a fairy tale which was thoroughly structured in a western culture. But “The sleepless beauty” is radically based on the Indian culture. The king and the queen of a small kingdom in Himalayas were childless for many years. Finally, a girl baby born to enlighten their life. When princess Ramya was twelve the queen Mohini passed away. After her mother’s death princess Ramya suffers from insomnia. Seven years later she grew up as a beautiful lady. But her sleeping sickness persisted. Due to sleeplessness her concentration level falls off day by day. The king Bhoj worries about her daughter’s state and he urges to find a solution. One day, he came up with an idea of conducting a competition. A person who wins in this competition will get an opportunity to marry the princess Ramya and become the king of Bangra kingdom.
Will the king find out an apt man for his daughter and kingdom? Will the princess insomnia be cured?
The sleepless beauty is totally an enjoyable read. The whole plot sets in the region of Himalayas. The way author had narrated the natural beauty of Himalaya was outstanding. The language is very simple and intelligible. Though the climax was highly predicable, it holds its own beauty. That is where I fell in love with the book. It’s been so many years since I read a fairy tale. I felt very good and relaxed while reading this. If you are looking for a light and refreshing read, you can give this book a try. A perfect read for fairy tale lovers and children. I’ll give 4 stars for this book.
The Sleepless Beauty is the story of a princess who couldn't sleep. Princess Ramya was a princess of the Bangara. When she was born a saint predicted her future. He said that she will suffer from sleeplessness.
The sleeplessness of the princess started soon after the death of her mother. The princess was the only heir to the kingdom. All neighbouring kingdoms waiting for the right opportunity to invade the Banagara Kingdom. Eventually, the princess grows old. She is healthy but because of not enough sleep, she was not able to focus and felt little dizzy in her head.
Normally as it happens in all the fairy tales, the king decides to hold a competition to find a groom for his daughter. The condition was the prince must be able to put the princess to sleep. Now here is a little modern twist in the story.
Unlike old fairy tales, where any prince or king is allowed to come and participate in the competition, here prince will first send his CV and his sketch. Ramya will then shortlist who will participate in the competition. Ramya shortlists 3 princes from the neighbouring kingdom. One is a doctor, one is a yoga expert and one has no special qualification like two others.
Readers must read to know does the princess manage to sleep? Who wins the competition?
The story is a modern twist to the old fairytales. Little mystery and little fun. The author kept the language simple and easy to read. However, the Kindle edition has no pictures. Few pictures will make this book more appealing for the younger generation. I can recommend this book to six-seven-year-old kids.
My ratings: 4/5 Princess Ramya is a beautiful soul, inside and out. Her family and the subjects love her dearly too. However, since her mother passed away, the young princess has been unable to sleep well. In a bid to find a suitor and a solution, her father calls princes from all over the world. The one who successfully puts Ramya to sleep will become her husband. Will the beautiful princess finally be able to sleep?
What I liked about the book: -> Tells us a simple, yet charming and inspiring story. -> It lends an important message that the solutions to most problems, whether big or small, are generally right in front of us. -> This is the first instance (for me at least) where a fairy tale is based on Indian culture as opposed to the mainstream western culture tales most of us have grown up reading. -> It teaches us that there should be restrictions or judgments on the way one showcases their love. -> It highlights an underlying problem about age-old beliefs and customs, as to how and why they must have been brought into practice, and how these need to be modified over time, as per the change in societal norms.
Quotable quotes: -> Travel expands the mind. -> People are often fixed in their habits and customs and resistant to change. -> External beauty is only one thing, what is really of value is inner beauty. -> Sometimes we can resolve big problems, while a solution to the smallest problem eludes us, try as we might. -> There are some things in the world, such as a good night’s sleep, that simply cannot be bought with money.

The sleepless beauty is a children's book. It's a sweet, short and innocent story. The author beautifully describes the kingdom and surrounding which encourages exploration of imagination. The language is pretty easy for the kids and the flow is good too. It was a very engaging read. The message behind this story teaches kids to be mature and be postive even during difficult times and take decessions wisely. I narrated this story to my niece and she loved it so much and asked me to tell her more such stories. My niece is just 3 years old but she already loves listening stories from me. It was a nice quick read. I am sure children will love it.
The Sleepless Beauty By Rajesh Talwar Format- Kindle edition My Rating- 3.8/5
Have you read the story of The Beauty and the Beast in ur childhood? And love it. Becz I was totally in love with the story. There r also movies made on the same storyline starring Alia Bhatt, Pankaj Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor.
This story portrays the life of Princess Ramya and her inability to sleep since her mother's death and her father arranging a contest for his daughter's marriage. Among the 50 candidates who applied for the competition, 4 were shortlisted. They were the Doctor Prince, Merchant Prince, Yoga Prince and Prince Milan. The Doctor Prince suggested some potions and an insect to bite her. The Yoga Prince suggested a shaking therapy to be done before going to bed. The Merchant Prince suggested to change the mattress used by her with a softer one. But the Prince of Milan had no idea what to do. But still he could cure her sleeplessness. (Read the book to find out...)
The lessons that the story gives- 1)The true worth or beauty of a person lay beneath the skin, in his or her innermost qualities.
2)There was something so special about a mother’s love that nothing in the world that could really make up for it.
My Review- A very short yet engaging read. I could complete the story in a single sitting. The book is written in a simple language. I recommend the book for beginners and children.
I have loved fairy tales since childhood and love every story which starts with a "Once upon a time" . In this cruel and unfair world we really need Fairy Tales which always say 'they live happily ever after'. After so long I have read a fairytale which reminded me of Rapunzel or beauty and the beast. This book is a wonderful fairytale which transported to the world of beautiful princesses, and charming princes, but also has a way of teaching us some important life lessons along the way. Princess Ramya was afflicted with such an inability to sleep that she became known in her kingdom as the Sleepless Beauty.
Her father wishes Princess Ramya to marry and take over the reins of government, but the princess is determined not to marry till such time as her sleep is restored. Eventually, the king announces a competition whereby whichever prince succeeds in getting Princess Ramya to sleep will win her hand. Story is really very interesting and has that power to keeps you engaged throughout.
This book also teaches so many life lessons like kindness and caring to the children and and I'm sure kids are going to like this book. The author has a great love and understanding of children's world, an Interesting writing style and vivid imagery offer great opportunities to engage children with the magical world which he created inside this book. I really want a hard copy of this book to add in my library but this book is available only as ebook. Perfect for 5+
Every reader begins his/her journey from fiction fantasy stories, with love we call them Fairy Tales. I share the same journey Cinderella, Snow White, Red Riding Hood, Little Mermaid, Rapunzel, Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty and many more. Most of these stories are from The Brothers Grimm, western stories.
In this book the author narrates an eastern story of fantasy - The Sleepless Beauty. The story is the tale of a beautiful Princess of Bangra - Princess Ramya. Bandra is a rich and successful Kingdom in the Himalayas ruled by King Bhoj and Queen Mohini. Princess Ramya is their only child and their heir, she is the most beautiful Princess in the Himalayas and brilliant at every skill (art, administration, weaponry etcetera). Her only problem is sleeplessness, yes Princess Ramya cannot sleep due to what she struggles to stay completely conscious through her tasks. Now Princess is of marriageable age, she plans to marry the one who can cure her sleeplessness. Four Royal prospects are selected for this competition.
Will the Princess sleeplessness be cured? Is this some sort of sickness or some sort of curse?
A fairy tale with an Indian touch, it's just wonderful. The tale is simple yet beautiful just like the huge Himalayan mountains. I loved the bond of the king and princess, it reminds some of my memories. Prince Milan is so much like a Bollywood hero, does anything and everything to impress his lover. In short it's a story not to be missed.

QOTD: Are you a morning person or a night owl?
"The Sleepless Beauty" by RAJESH TALWAR. Well, I am a night owl. Coming to the book review, this is very cute and a short book that is about Princess Ramya and her sleeping illness. She is the Princess of the Bangra. Her father is Raj Bhoj, and her mother is Queen Mohini. King Rama passed away at an early age, then Raj Bhoj started ruling the kingdom. It's been a long time, actually; many years were passed since Princess Ramya slept peacefully. She was coming to an age where she should get married, so Raj Bhoj has asked Princess Ramya about the marriage proposals and said she will not marry until her sleeping problem got cured. To solve that, the King said that we will find the guys who will give you the cure for your problem, then you can marry him, okay? Then Princess Ramya agreed. After filtering, four princes were getting in a talk with the Princess to impress her and cure her problem to be the prince who had impressed the Princess. Yes, this a cute fairy tale about Princess Ramya. I liked it. The language is lucid and easy to understand. One fun fact even I do have sleep issues since form my birth, yeh you heard it right it is no such disease, but something I had got inbuilt but here no something triggered tot eh Princess's mind which made her to not get sleep. To know that you have to read the book.

PERSONAL REVIEWS
The Sleepless Beauty is very much inspired from "The sleeping beauty" which was one of the reasons why I picked this book. I needed a small, light read and if you're looking for something similar, go for it. I've heard people say "life is no fairytale" but turns out it is! We all are fighting against something if not demons and dragons and in the end we're trying to protect our dear ones and well, our kingdom. All of us are looking for our "happily ever after". This is what I learnt from this short book too.
The characters are adorable and the plot is simple. It's a short, good one time read.
This is a beautiful fairy tale of a princess Ramya who after losing her mother at a very young age of 12 is unable to sleep and is famously being called a sleepless beauty, but that did not make her any less courageous. Her father, the King Bhoj has tried everything possible to bring his daughter her lost sleep but failed every time.
Now after 7 years of sleeplessness the young princess is still unable to sleep. The King wants to get her married so that she can take over the Kingdom but the princess is reluctant because she feels her lack of sleep can hamper her decision-making which is the most important trait needed for any King or Queen.
So the King makes a decision and announces to the kingdom that any prince who can make the princess sleep normally will be eligible to marry the princess. So is there any prince who can cure the princess of her sleeplessness? Will the princess finally be able to sleep or will she suffer from sleeplessness forever?
A very simple and short fairytale with a lot of wisdom and learning for the kids. The part where the kings try to cure her sleeplessness is funny yet gives you a lot to learn from. The way of writing is simple and it keeps you interested throughout. Princess Ramya is a beauty with brains and a beautiful soul. I loved the story and I recommend it to everyone.
The first movie version of a book that I saw was The Golden Compass, it was magical and magnificent. Reading The Sleepless Beauty reminded me of those days.
Most of the fairytales are based on foreign princesses and far away lands, but The Sleepless Beauty is the story that explores the Indian culture. It is the story of Princess Ramya, the Princess who couldn't sleep.
The mighty King Bhoj was childless for quite some time, though later he was blessed with a beautiful daughter, who was named Princess Ramya. The astrologers and saints drew charts and graphs and foretold that Princess Ramya would be the most beautiful of all but she would suffer from sleeplessness. Over time everyone forgot about this prediction and got busy in their lives. Princess Ramya grew up to be a beautiful child. However, their happy days were short lived, the Queen fell ill and died soon after. King Bhoj and Princess Ramya were devastated, after the Queen's death the Princess started having trouble sleeping. Even the most comfortable bed made of the softest cotton turned out to be of no help. Herbal concoctions, sweet smelling scents, but nothing helped.
This was a short and sweet read, took me back to my childhood days when I obsessively read fairytales.
