While Mom works the night shift at NASA, Dad helps an intrepid girl get ready for sleep as she imagines she's exploring Mars.
In this rhyming bedtime book, a girl whose mother works at NASA imagines that she's exploring Mars with the Curiosity rover as she gets ready for bed. She describes taking off, observing Mars, communicating with mission control, and operating the rover. Young space explorers everywhere will want to head for Mars, too!
Brianna Caplan Sayres used to tell her second graders, "When I grow up, I'm going to be a writer." "But you are grown up, Mrs. Sayres," her students would protest. Well, Brianna is still not sure she's grown up, but she has grown into a writer. Her debut picture book, "Where Do Diggers Sleep at Night?" was published by Random House, and her upcoming picture book, "Tiara Saurus Rex," will soon be published by Bloomsbury. Brianna has recently returned to her hometown, Seattle, Washington, where she and her husband are kept busy by their two wonderful boys. I loved everything about this: mom being the NASA employee working the nightshift, the zooming up the stairs & into bed, dad tucking in their child, and the wonderful imagination of the child “on” Mars. Illustrations are gorgeous and this is a terrific book for any youngsters obsessed with space, planets, and rockets. It is also sure to inspire a search for more books about Curiosity and its mission.
I LOVE the concept of this book, not just fostering a girl's love of the stars, but any kind of dreaming. I love that dad is the one doing bedtime and I love the extra fun about her mom's job!
