A decades-old body. A mystery that was never meant to be solved. After taking part in two murder investigations, Kirby Jackson feels like his sleuthing days are over. His plate is full. He has his comic book and coffee shop to tend to, a stubborn dachshund to perk up, and a new cat who thinks she owns the place. Gambit, the dachshund, can’t get used to the idea of sharing anything—let alone an apartment—with Rogue, the feline wonder. The cat always slips away just when he thinks he’s got her cornered. When a local teen goes missing during the annual Niilhaasi Pirate Festival, Kirby offers his and Gambit’s help. What the two uncover shakes the small coastal community to its core.

kindle unlimited, did not like it as well as book 1 but same rating for this one as last, rating it 3 here but 4 zon, because they have 3's as negative, js, might try the foodie ones listed below but only because pretty sure she co-writes with her husband and read all his other ones, might like premise better, and is 'pennies from zon'

I enjoyed this book. I like the fact that most of it is set in a comic book shop, very unusual but it works and adds a nice element to the story and memories of childhood. It also made me smile when quite a few shows I know and watched were mentioned. The characters are like able and work well together, the cat and dog names are also shout outs to comic book lovers. The mystery had you guessing and I didn't see the end coming. This is the third book in the series and I have listened to book one, so other than mentioning this was the third body Kirby had found, I can say they are stand alone stories and you don't need to have listened to the previous instalments to enjoy this one. Definitely a series I will be keeping an eye out for. Kirby a comic book and coffee shop owner has his hands full trying to get his dog to accept the new addition to the household, a cat. The last thing he wants is to participate in the annual Niilhaasi pirate festival but like getting a cat her gets talks into it ends up drawing the map for the treasure hunt. He had no idea that one of the locations on the map would lead to something else buried there or a teenage boy would go missing. Kirby vows to stay out of it but when it is discovered that the location for the treasure was suggested by an old friends father he gets dragged into the investigation. Can he find the missing boy and solve a very cold case? And broker a truce between his cat and dog before blood is drawn. I liked the narrator, he did a good job with the characters voices and really helped to sell the story.
this is the third book in the series and I finished this within a day because it is so nicely written. again the crime isn't high stakes but it is built very well. the host of good characters and their distinct traits make it feel like you're getting to know your friends better. I'm looking forward to more books in this series. And props to all the references to comic book authors. I had a laugh at a character called Grant Gaiman! This has quickly become only of the most consistent and enjoyable series for me.
I received a free advance review copy of this book and am voluntarily providing my honest review. Another great book about Kirby's coffee/comic book shop. Kirby adopts a cat, which of course Gambit doesn't like. But, the cat ends up helping Kirby and giving him some fresh ideas for his shop. A teen goes missing, Kirby and Gambit stumble upon a skeleton. WOW, I love these books and can't wait to see what happens with Kirby and Felicia. I totally recommend these books.
In this third book Kirby considers making some changes in comic book cafe. Kirby and his dog Gambit discover a skull connected to a dead body and a mystery involving Felicia's father a former cop comes to light. A young man disasppearance during a fishing event complicated the romance between Kirby and Avett. Gambit and his new roommate a cat are a fun addition too.
Not a fan of this character. When series first started he was after HS crush Jill, who was then murdered...but now it's like Felicia and written like it was Felica the whole time. Is this a whoops or a jump?? The relationship doesn't make sense. I understand how it's to get Kirby further on and broken up w Avett but it didn't work for me.
The third book in the series has another addition to the series, a cute kitty named Rouge that Kirby wasn't expecting. So it's him, Gambit, the dashound, and new kitty Rouge, it's the local pirate festival in town, and there's also a missing teen and later a body is found, except it isn't long dead pirate captain gaurding his gold, it's more recent. Another fun mystery
I really enjoy the characters in this series and the pets! Always a fun twist on who committed the crime and why. A very fun read and can't wait to read the next one.
I am really enjoying this series. Love that Kirby is turning into an animal person even if he doesn’t know it. I am enjoying the different story lines, Florida setting and likable characters. Also, enjoy being surprised at conclusions. Never had a clue.
I enjoyed reading this book. The characters are engaging and the plot developed quickly. I is a nice change to read about romantic complications from a male point of view.
Lightweight mystery fare with an ending that’s out of the blue but does a great job of red herrings. I enjoyed the Tuckerizing of various comics names and the suggestion that protagonist Kirby has a touch of Spider-Man’s “Parker luck” given how things go for him.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I liked the characters, the humor and the mystery ending. I'm looking forward to reading more books in this series.
A really enjoyable Cozy. The characterisation is good without being twee. I do get a little rankled with the rolling of eyes at times, this is explained as being one of the characters traits though.
