Hate your job. Get a superpower. Betray your country.
Roman Martin’s life doesn’t get any easier once he makes his way back from the Eastern Province.
The shadow user named Hazrat is gunning for him, and Margo, the mysterious woman who has the same superpower as Roman, will go to any lengths to end his life prematurely. He still hasn't been approved to be an exemplar, and once he confesses to his teacher what he has been up to over the last week, including destroying an Eastern Province military facility, the odds of Roman ever being a superhero are slim to none.
But there are other options available for him, something he is already good at, something that would involve his relationship with Nadine, and the power he has through his dolls.
Yet there is also revenge.
And when Roman is given the choice to either go after those who are actively trying to destroy him, or to lay low and follow the guidance of the Centralian government, he makes a decision that could ultimately strip him of his power, forever changing the course of Roman’s life.
Warning: House of Dolls contains a harem, toxic cat girls, superpowers used in ways they weren’t intended to be used, cosplay, fantasy violence, necromancy, dark themes, and other trigger-worthy adult situations. It was inspired by the anime High School DxD, Drew Hayes’ Super Powereds, and The Americans.

It is absolutely beyond me why this is getting such good reviews. It doesn't deserve them, at all. The first book in the series was decent, since then it has been downhill all the while and the book has for me reached the point where I simply stopped caring what happens to any characters in this book. If they'd all die screaming in agony it wouldn't faze me.
Where to begin. In book two we got introduced to Margo. Who renders Romans powers lame. Because she has the exact same ones, but better.
In book three this takes on step further. Roman has become for all intents and purposes an ineffectual loser. Gone is the character of the first book, all that remains is a complete pushover and failure. In book two Margo steals his wives corpses and reanimates her, in this books she steals some of his dolls. Roman is then treated to the view of her getting busy with them because you absolutely have to have cuckolding in such a story.
Roman screams, cries and then runs like a little bitch. Which really has become a running theme. At the end of the book, he has effectively made zero progress. Got cuckolded, stolen from and humiliated. Margo meanwhile prances off into the sunset, all her schemes having more or less succeeded and having trounced Roman for the second book in succession.
The entirety of book two and three have been nothing but one downer situation after another. Now Roman has his powers taken away, his wife stolen, the new doll we've BEEN WAITING FOR FOR TWO FUCKING BOOKS stolen and then gets cuckolded in a threesome involving both of them.
There's zero catharsis to this, zero pay off for two books of progressively more dark and depressing bullshit. Screw you Harmon Cooper and screw everyone who ever liked this.
If you think you've read books previously with topsy-turvy twists and turns like that long and winding road in San Francisco... Reader, trust me, you ain't seen nothing yet.
Goodies and baddies... forget it. Dead people and living... gloriously pell-mell.
This book also contains, what I feel is, the most meaningful and relevant line of the year, particularly if you are a Brit:
"It was mind-boggling to her how a government so successful could operate so poorly."
Harmon Cooper always manages to include some of our 'now' into his stories, even if you don't recognise it at the first time of reading. That's one of the signs of a great writer. The reader fully expects the third part of the story to be written well, be full of action and adventure, and to have these beautifully structured bits that'll take your breath away. Tick, tick, tick.
Sorry, folks, the blurb is all you're getting. I will not mar a single word of this intricate plot or provide any spoilers. Read. This. Series. Wonderful.
I chose to accept an early ecopy of this book, which I voluntarily read and honestly reviewed. All opinions are my own.
Harmon Cooper takes his readers on another wacky adventure with this installment of this quirky adult superhero series. If you enjoyed the other books in the series, you should like this one too. But watch out for the ending.,. Really need the next book to come out ASAP now!
The most recent installment of Roman’s saga is filled with twists and surprising turns. It’s an excellent, though somewhat dark read, filled with subplot upon subplot, new characters, returning characters, and some that appear in the author’s other books from the Centralia universe. All-in-all, interesting, intriguing, and an ending that leaves me filled with anticipation for the next installment. Nicely done, Mr. Cooper - nicely done indeed.
Ok I am conflicted with this book. The characters overall are well done with a lot of good development and the writing and pace are good. The MC has a very tortured story and it has affected his thought process deeply. The fight scenes are well written and fast paced and the connection between this story and the We Could be Heroes is done neatly. Overall it was good.
While they had some problems, I generally liked the stories. The problem is, Harmon Cooper is getting too weird. His stories have been getting steadily stranger but this story broke the camel's back. Sex with reanimated dead bodies crossed the line for me.
I am done with this series. Hopefully Harmon Cooper can reign in his fetishes and weirdness in his other stories.
I'm really getting involved with the main characters in this as we are really finding ourselves making choices for those we like. What really got me was there quite a few twists as well which just make this so much better and has made sure I'm hooked for book 4. Not sure how it can get any better as this is a 5 star from the beginning.
This is a good book. You should read it. I like the story. The characters are fun. I thought the ending a little predictable but I really want to see where this series goes next.
Well written, this finishes this arc of the story. This world is weird and quirky (Harmon Cooper is good at weird). The creep factor isn't too high. I'm glad that there are more stories in Centralia. Pretty easy reading and not as gross as it could have been.
This is a book that took me awhile to read. I started to read it several times before I was able to finish it. Not as good as most of his work, still worth reading.
