For generations, a nameless man has been passed down through Cane's family- one who never seems to age, remembers the stories of old, and knows the depths of men's hearts.

On the outside, Cane's family appeared to be simple fishermen. Yet when he turned eighteen and his life entwined with the nameless man forever, Cane learned they were far more than he could imagine. And as they are hunted while pursuing hidden secrets, Cane's life enters turmoil, where nothing is clear.

But one thing is certain, says the nameless man.

This was intriguing.

The concept of this story is kinda scary. You have a men with the power to record all the powers out in the world and keep keep that knowledge safe. Then someone steals it. What do you do?

3.75. Interesting beginning, though I suspect the main storyline is where the deeper exposition on this world’s setting and status quo will unfold.

It was difficult to grasp exactly where this story takes place—not necessarily a flaw, but more of a missing context piece that would have helped frame the narrative. Are we on another planet? Earth? A completely different dimension? Who knows. Oddly enough, though, that mystery adds to the intrigue, making me even more eager to dive into the next book.

The idea of powers being tied to one’s birth location—and the specific ability described here—was fascinating. I honestly can’t recall encountering anything quite like it in books or other media centered around superpowers, which made it stand out even more.

Overall, a solid start. Looking forward to uncovering what this story truly is.
