Having managed, with the help of her friends, to save the dragons from the clearscale plague, Alba discovers that not everything is as it should be. Apart from the plague, the dragons as well as the rest of the Academy inhabitants have fallen under the spell of a loyalty elixir, that forces them to be loyal to King Magnar. As if that wasn’t enough, she’s under the damsel denial clause, limiting her actions against Magnar or she’ll suffer the consequences. With only a handful of trusted allies, she embarks once again in a race against time to find a way to break the loyalty elixir spell before it’s too late.

Once more, Cordelia has delivered and excellent story, set in her amazingly unique and continuously expanding world. The plot is fast-paced with excellent twists, the characters, both primary and secondary, extremely well-developed, the descriptions so vivid that you feel as if you are part the adventure. And what an adventure this is!!! With each installment, Alba’s story gets more and more action-packed, the plot twists keeping the reader captivated till the final word! Alba’s story is an ongoing adventure, full of magic, suspense and romance, that I highly recommend!!!

There was a lot going on in this book and there wasn’t all at the same time. Alba spent the book doing two things. Trying to avoid the fact that Magnar had tricked her into magically binding herself to marrying him. And trying to figure out WHY everyone was all of a sudden so LOYAL to the little brat. As the series goes on, I hate him more and more. He can say he does all kinds of vile and evil and unforgivable things all to save his sisters, but really?! I mean, can anyone be more of a bastard? Anyway, I (so far) like the troll, hate Magnar (obviously) and I’m okay with the fact that Alba and Niger are starting to look like they’re gonna be a couple. The little information in this book could have been given in the next, honestly. I didn’t find the loyalty thing a good filler. *Shrug* Maybe that’s just me!

The author has made this book the continuation of the previous story, rounding out the plot and coming up with resolution plans that make good sense. Alba is still functioning as Albert, rider of Fyri the green dragon. This is when we find out about the distressed damsel protocol. When King Magnar saves Albert/Alba from certain death, this stuff kicks in and Alba can't even think of getting away from his goal of making her his wife. Albert and friends are still looking for the Librarian who was responsible for the unfortunate loyalty spell that had affected every single soul and dragon with unreasoning loyalty to King Magnar. The distressed damsel protocol causes intense pain and sickness every time Alba has even a thought of how to slip away from Mangar. I really, really liked this book.

Another excellent part of the story, but I am still screaming at the bad people.

The writer has continued the journey of navigating this amazing world with our hero performing amazing things, their secrets nearly being discovered and somehow still saving this day.

I can't wait to see what comes next for our hero amd the group of friends.

I think if you read this book in one go (unlike me, who was reading it in between another book) it will go really quickly. There certainly was a lot of stuff happening in a very short space of time - so much so that sometimes I couldn't quite keep track (although that might also have been due to my split focus).

A good description for this one would be "fast and fun".

I want more

I love this story. I love our characters. I hate the boy king but that is another story. I am so hurt by the abrupt end but there will be more and this is a definite must read.

Wed to the hated king?

Princess Alba has no intention to marry King Magnar! He is insufferable and has plotted to take over and drag the dragons to war, with a loyalty potion attuned to him. It nearly works! Excellent fast paced read with wonderful characters!

This is a good book! Having the hardship to try and go through life trying to figure problems out whenever you've always had a strong support system behind you can be really difficult. I can't wait to read more!

Tricked and trapped by King Magnar into a magical obligation with potentially lethal consequences, Alba feels betrayed by Tyrian's potion based loyalty to the man, but she refuses to give up hope. She is determined to free her dragon from his elixir. She and her friends go to desperate lengths to find proof and a cure for all the dragons. She will not back down until she knows they are safe from him and from the forces behind his rise to power, even if it means her own freedom.

The story easily portrays their desperation while showing how the young mages' friendship grows and strengthens. It also builds the world's history and mythology - explaining quite a bit about its magic and good vs. evil. It adds to the depth of characters and the beauty of the world. It is full of bright descriptions of places, creatures and myths. It is a great world, one full of awesome ideas that resonate with our own.
