Isabella Thorne is an author of Regency and Georgian Romance. The first grown-up books she read were historical, authored by Georgette Heyer, Victoria Holt and Anna Seton. Unfortunately, for her own daughters, the beauty and hallmark of Regency Romance, witty dialogue and the manners of the time, have been overshadowed by explicit books instead of true Regency Romance. Regency Romance includes a more formal language, longer sentences and ballrooms instead of bedrooms.

With a return to romance, Isabella Thorne hopes you will enjoy her light fun books. You can share them with your daughters with the guarantee that although there is romance aplenty, and a bit of sexual tension and a kiss, there is nothing explicit in her books. They are clean and wholesome reads with lots of humor and upbeat "fun poking" at the English mannerisms of the time.

Because I love the pageantry of the period, I love to include true events or set stories during a war--the English were involved in so many of them at this time! You will find bits of history scattered through the books and an occasional historical figure, but these books are FICTION and not intended to be a definitive history. None of the Peerage of (any land) actually existed. I hope that all the British and the die-hard historical readers will please forgive this passionate American if I make any mistakes, and send an email off to isabellathorne@christianromancestories.com I will make corrections.

I endeavor to make the heros and heroines true to their time period. That means that many women may seem weak at first glance, but they soon find their inner grit. Unlike today's heroines, the Regency heroine could not openly defy convention at the time. Instead, she had to find a way around the convention. That is half the fun! Likewise, heros were expected to be chauvinistic. In fact, the etymology of chauvinism shows that the word chauvinism did not appear until the late 1800's and then was a pejorative term the English had for the French who continued to be slavishly patriotic to Napoleon. What we call chauvinistic, the Regency called masculine or virile. I will always choose to make my characters as historically correct as possible, even if that means they seem a bit politically incorrect to today's audiences.

I am a meticulous perfectionist who taught AP English for 20 years at the high school level before moving to teach at a community college because I was disheartened by the decline in American education, especially the decline of the reading level. Be forewarned that the longer sentences in my books cause an upward trend in the reading level, which settles at about seventh grade, instead of the fourth grade level found in newspapers and many, so called, adult books. An occasional typo may slip by me, but is usually caught by my editor, who is a fellow teacher, or by my Beta and ARC readers who are marvelous. You can expect long sentences in my books, just like they were in yesteryear. You may even learn a few new words. I hope so! I guess I am still a bit of a teacher at heart.

This story begins in Nettlefold village. There is a mystery about the barmaid, Addie Walker, where has she come from and why should could read. Then a Sir Phineas Ainsworth appears at the inn and claims to be a fortune teller. Phineas is aware of Addie’s past and is trying to reunite her with her family. There is a villain in the story that causes trouble when they arrive in London. Addie has become an independent person and tends to do things for herself, instead of asking others to aid her. Phineas and Addie become closer as they get to know each other but can anything come of it, given a scandal might cause them to part? This was an engaging read with a satisfying ending.

A great adventurous novel with a bit of a mystery thrown in for good measure. The plot thickens as we meet Addie a barmaid who is more than she seems. And a man named Phineas Ainsworth, whose looking for his sister who was taken. Though this book has a dark hidden areas in it. It is a great novel and was not disappointed when I picked it up to read. Plot was good and characters are well written.

I loved reading this story. The H and h’s personalities were real and down-to earth, honest. This story is full of past horror, danger, devastation, human trafficking all done by members of the ton. Our h escaped from her abductors but even though she kept her innocence she was ruined by association. When she returned to her parents, she was met with devastating news. She left to start a new life somewhere else under a different name and a false background. She felt ashamed for what she had been through. One thing for sure, she is resilient, honest, hardworking and a friend to all. Working as a barmaid in a little village, she met the H. On first appearance he was a traveling fortune teller. According to the h he was a fraud and wanted nothing to do with him. Unfortunately, her heart said otherwise. The H was attracted to her immediately and tried to explain that he did not deal in duplicity but in hope and love. After several interactions she was convinced that he was a good man not out to harm anyone. Then he dropped a bomb on her and her life was never the same. The H convinced her to go back to London with him and visit a long lost relative of her fathers. The H had proof that what he said was true. He handed gave her father's signet ring. That convinced her. She met with her uncle and they established a warm and loving relationship. He reintroduced her to the ton. Then she saw him. One of her abductors. The H had lost his sister to these nefarious men and the h hatched a dangerous plan. Such a romance, true, honest, beautiful. A worthy read.

SETTING: This is an engrossing story of the heartbreak of human trafficking in the 1800’s, and we glimpse just a bit of the heartache the victims and the families of such girls experience, and the attempts to find them long after they have disappeared. It is also a tender love story of Addie, one of the victims who escaped, and Phineas, whose sister has yet to be found. Just when Addie’s life finally seems to have straightened out, and she and Phineas are growing close, all is at risk of being lost when Addie foolishly thinks she can confront one of the perpetrators of the crimes against young women and come out unscathed! Will she be able to escape his clutches a second time?
CRITIQUE: The story is well written, and the reader’s interest is kept from the beginning, as we try to ascertain Addie’s story from the few clues we are given. I found I could not put the book down as I became engaged in the story. Addie and Phineas are characters we grow to like. There is a tremendous tension built up when Addie confronts the “Lord” who sold her. How she, her Uncle Elton and Phineas then handle this problem is a reasonable, rational approach that results in there being HEAs for many people, Addie and Phineas. I appreciate the delicate handling of a horrendous crime that unfortunately continues to occur in our day, in a way that gives hope to those victims who survive.

ONE SPOTLIGHTING THRILL RIDE!!!
Flabbergasted! Isabella dispenses a refreshing spin, targeting the aristocrats of the ton and blowing it wide open, throwing it into a tizzy with an explosive culmination. A raging tempest of inexplicable events and unbelievable circumstances, propel those churning emotions into play, binding this baby together piece by piece. Add drama, intrigue, turmoil, tension, abduction, dastardly intentions, mounting suspense and unexpected situations, along with a boatload of danger, while dodging disaster in the wings, you have one mind-blowing adventure. Struggling through the trials and tribulations, unimaginable twists and shocking turns blasts this bad boy to life spectacularly. The characters and their on point personalities are authentic and realistic with depth and qualities that blend and flow. The scenes are so vividly detailed it gives the illusion you were right there with them instead of on the sidelines. Remarkable job Isabella, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.

This is a Regency romance that appears to be light and fluffy on the surface, but in fact, has a desperately dark underbelly. Having escaped her past Adelle is working as a barmaid in an off the beaten track town when Phineas finds her. At first, he appears to be a fairground fortune teller until he tells Addie that he has been looking for her in the hope of finding clues to his missing sister. Human trafficking has been a scourge to humankind for centuries but in 1820 there was little recourse for victims of abduction and the perpetrators seemed immune to punishment. That is until Addie decides to take a stand and make her accusations despite the censure she knows she will receive. Whilst Phineas seems to be a lighthearted person, he feels deeply and his concern for Addie is palpable. The closing chapters of this well-written book are emotional and take the reader from despair to victory and leave one feeling satisfied that justice has been served.

Secrets, Secrets, Secrets

She was ruined and she was in danger, which is why Addie ran away. She assumed a new persona and accepted whatever work she could find. Eventually she made an okay life for herself – then Phineas rolled into town.

He was never going to inherit, which is why Phineas decided to be the master of his own destiny. He assumed the persona of a fortune teller and traveled from town to town. His was a comfortable life – then he spotted Addie at the local inn.

Not Quite a Lady, Not Quite a Knight is a sweet and tender Regency novella with a few twists and a lot of love. Both Addie and Phineas are very likable, as are the two main supporting characters. Isabella Thorne has written a quick and easy romance that's enjoyable and has a smile-worthy happy ending.

Addie Walker worked in an inn. It was late at night and she still had customers. A man walked in tall, lean, not to bad looking. He told her he was a fortune-teller. She had some awful experiences from a fortune-teller got kidnapped, sold to the highest bidder and shamed. She hated them. Sir Phineas Ainsworth was a happy man but he was kind, too. His sister had the same thing happen to her but she had been gone a year and he had been looking for her.
This was really a good story but it was a little short. The characters could have been more developed and made to shine more. It was different but intriguing. Phineas is the youngest son of a younger son. He had no hope for a title or riches and he liked telling fortunes. He called it giving hope. I know you will enjoy the rest of the book. I do recommend it.
I received this ARC from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

Isabella Thorne has outdone herself with this sweet romance that is well-written, filled with a magnificent cast of characters, a strong plot and great dialogue bring this read together perfectly! Be swept away with Phineas a fortune-teller with a suave personality who on his way to London meets Addie a girl who works at the Bell and Whistle, neither are what they seem. With a villain slinking in the background waiting to strike their next victims Addie risks ruination to herself and those she loves to stop others from being hurt. It's a sweet romance with uncertainty, human trafficking, blackmail, deception, drama, suspense, insecurities, fear of rejection and twists and turns abound that make for one sigh worthy romance.

Addie has had a hard life. After having been “found” by Phineas, he brings her back to a distant uncle who loves and takes care of her as a daughter, which opens her the doors of the Ton. At a ball, Addie meets Lord Whittendon, her traumatic pasts catches up and she absolutely has to do something about it…
At the beginning, I had issues to get into the story. After some time though, it was fascinating, the story captivating and flowing easily. The characters are endearing and have noble values. The book would profit from a thorough proofreading, which would make the reading experience more enjoyable. However, it is an inspiring story, full of hope and love.

Isabella Thorne delivers!

I received this book free from one of the book sites. I do not remember which one! This is my honest and voluntary review.

What a lovely story. Justice, royalty, and love. To say more would spoil the book. What I will say is that the author writes well, taking a fully packed story & producing a novella is hard work. An author needs to be aware of the limited amount of pages & still get all of the story completed without forgetting the important components. This author delivers. I applaud her work & believe that you will also. Recommended.

Another Interesting Read by Isabella Thorne

Another different and well written story. Both Addie and Sir Phineas were wonderfully strong characters, and Addie's new found uncle Elton was an endearing secondary character. It was very difficult to believe what had happened to a young lady like Addie and Phineas sister Louisa also. I was pleased to see that the baddie got his comeuppance in such a way as to impact greatly on him, and of course a H.E.A for the couple was the icing on the cake.
I would thoroughly recommend this book.

Romance, mystery and action all included!

This is a clean romance. Although Addie wanted to be independent and didn't want a man in her life, Ainsworth wasn't taking no for an answer. He continue to charm her and draw her out of her ownself.

Once he was positive of her identity, he told her she has a relative looking for her. He even had proof he wasn't up to no good. Once arriving in London and going to her first ball she recognizes someone who was involved in a serious offense against her. As things unravel and go from bad to worse, the ending will please you!

When is a stranger just what a lady needs?
I love when I get the opportunity to read one of Isabella Thorne books this one opens up at the Bell and Whistle had Addie and Trudy cleaning while tales from the patrons ring out. Then on this dark and windy night, a stranger shows up. Got goosebumps yet just wait you will? Addie and the fortune teller have such interesting run-ins. I loved how this story developed, the secrets each character held, the outcome at the end, and how well-written this quick tale was. I am putting this one in to be read every Halloween or perhaps Christmas.

Great book

Fleeing from one's past was not an easy task. Discovering rich relatives who helped her enter society as a member of the ton was not what Addie expected when she went to London with the fortune teller, either, but that is what happened.
This is an interesting book, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading Regency. I got this book in a mass giveaway, and am offering my opinion to encourage others Whispersync like the same sort of reads.

Addie is a perfect example of making the best of the hand you are dealt. She is so humble and bold. This get's right into the dark secrets of the snobbish regency but it's well written and not too in-depth to overshadow the romance of the story. Phineas is definitely her knight in shinning armour. Her uncle is such a loving supportive man. Such a touching story from beginning to end. I received a free copy from the author without obligation and am voluntarily reviewing.

Enjoyed this story with Addie who was captured by a human trafficer but escaped now working in a tavern as a bar maid. When Phineas comes into the bar while traveling around looking for his sister who has also been captured by the same people. They strike up a friendship of sorts that leads to more as they spend time together. This is a well written book about this type of crime that still exist to day and loved the characters in this book. This author can always deliver a great book.

A young women hiding from her past comes across a charming fortune teller. Something in her past makes her believe fortune tellers are out to trick people. During this fun read the fortune teller is most attracted to the young woman and the story keeps the reader interested to find out the outcome between the two. The story line is original and quite entertaining. I got quite a few laughs while reading. Enjoy

A fast moving story with characters that have intriguing personalities and pasts. The twists and turns were unexpected. Addie was a victim of human trafficking, when she finally was able to get away her father was dead and her mother’s mind had been affected. Phineas was somewhat of a vagabond being the second son of a second son. He finds himself attracted to Addie, will they find some peace and contentment in their future?

Beautiful cover.
This short story was interesting and would make a very good novel as there is much that could be elaborated on. I would prefer that it was minus the fortune telling and halloween parts. Neither of those should be joked about or played with and are offensive to God Almighty.
The sister bit at the end seemed contrived. Not enough info to make it believable.
Overall it was interesting, as I said, but really would benefit by being longer.

This was a good read although it wasn't my favorite by this author. I did like the plot for the most part. I liked the characters too. I thought the main character was brave and stood up when she needed to. I think others would enjoy this book as well, though it might not be for everyone. I would recommend it to those who enjoy historical romance stories. This one was a quick and easy read.

The eighth book in the Nettlefold Chronicles a well written story that held my interest until the end. This is Miss Constance Adelaide Waltham and Mr. Phineas Ainsworth's story which I enjoyed reading. Addie had been kidnapped by human traffickers but managed to escape. The story has suspense, drama, danger, kidnapping, a villain, and romance. I want to read more in this series.
