Galactic Liberation #5

Straker's Breakers

Rate this book
From Hugo and Dragon Award finalist David VanDyke, and millions-selling science-fiction legend and Dragon finalist B.V. Larson, comes book five in the epic military space opera adventure saga! It’s been five years since the end of the Hive Wars. Straker has handed over the burden of governing the Earthan Republic to civil authorities. This should be a happy time, as Straker and his most loyal soldiers retire to a planet and step off the galactic stage. Unfortunately, authoritarian forces within the Earthan Republic are still simmering with rage at his victory. Rumors reach Straker of a growing new Republic Fleet manned by state loyalists. Planets begin to fall under their influence and go dark. Even in retirement, they see Straker’s Breakers as a threat. Fearing he may have to move again in the name of freedom and the people, Straker begins to train and plan. Will they dare to come for him? His battlesuiters have formed families and planted roots on Culloden. What of their children and stories of neighboring worlds reverting to dictatorships? Straker’s Breakers prepare to fight again, alone and without support, in this new novel of military science fiction by David VanDyke and B. V. Larson. This is the fifth book in the Galactic Liberation series. Look for book #1, STARSHIP LIBERATOR if you’re new to this expanding universe.

If you've read any of John Ringo's poslene series, then this one may look familiar to you. It has a lot of mercinary action too, so if you haven't been acquainted with Ringo, you aren't going to be left out, but you might feel a sense of deja vu when that scene comes up in this one. Regardless, it's a fairly decent story, and while I thought it'd be a nice stopping point for the series, there is talk of another one at the end of the book, so who knows where the series will go next. One thing's for sure though, and that is that where ever it goes, there will be plenty of action to enjoy.

A different direction, a better book.

I enjoyed the series, I enjoyed this book. The characters a likable and have good character development. I really enjoyed the change of locale. And the different dynamic for streakers breakers. The only thing I would like more sci-fi technology introduced in the series people who are thinking about reading this book should start from book one you’ll find this series enjoyable.

Good storyline

It was a toss up between 4 &5 stars. Not as much action seen in prior volumes. Still I like the growing/learning/soul searching development of the main characters and the direction the series is heading

Another Good One

Straker's adventures continue with a look at humanity's darker tendency to seek power, wealth, profit, or otherwise disregard others for personal gain all while having great space and ground battles in Sloan worlds. Can't wait for the next one.

Nothing sophisticated, just an interesting, imaginative space adventure with intriguing characters. Escapist Sci-fi that doesn't strain the brain but also doesn't insult your intelligence. I'm reading all of his series of books.

Hooray for the good

The only constant in human history is the unrelenting ability of scumbag representatives to undermine the will of the people.

Not as good but still good.

Not as detail as previous books. Felt rushed. Still a good read. Hopefully more to come with more details like before.

Morality 101

It's nice when decisions are clear cut but experience is a cruel taskmaster . Well worth reading simply because of its clear view of morality

This is not the end right?

It certainly looks that way. If that’s the case it’s a half hardened closure. Too many questions left unanswered and the battles are like a walk in the park in relation to past stories where stealer always a solution to a seemingly hopeless situation.
Not saying it’s a bad story... just different.
Would have given 4.5 stars but I want the story to go on, I want to know who the unknown creator is, I want to see Earth liberated. Thank you.
