Stanley is the senior pastor of First Baptist Church Atlanta, founder of In Touch Ministries, and a New York Times best-selling author who has written more than fifty books, and has sold more than nine million copies. He demonstrates a keen awareness of people's needs and provides Christ-centered, biblically-based principles for everyday life.
Charles Frazier Stanley was born September 25, 1932, in the small town of Dry Fork, Virginia. The only child of Charley and Rebecca Stanley, Charles came into the world during a time when the entire nation felt the grip of the Great Depression. To make matters worse, just nine months later, his father Charley died at the young age of 29.
However, Charles refused to let the Great Depression or the difficulties of his life define him. Instead, like his father and grandfather before him, he clung to God’s Word and took up the mantle to preach the gospel to whoever would listen.
Dr. Stanley’s motivation is best represented by the truth found in Acts 20:24, “Life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about God's mighty kindness and love.” This is because, as he says, “It is the Word of God and the work of God that changes people’s lives.”
Dr. Stanley’s teachings can be heard weekly at First Baptist Church Atlanta, daily on “In Touch with Dr. Charles Stanley” radio and television broadcasts on more than 2,800 stations around the world, on the Internet at intouch.org, through the In Touch Messenger, and in the monthly, award-winning In Touch magazine.

I would read this one again. (5 stars)
This book starts off with the basics of prayer, and I love the way it beautifully weaves in the relationship of prayer, rather than making it a formula. Beautiful, encouraging volume, and the pictures are beautiful as well.
Isaiah 55:11 is "It [My Word] shall not return to Me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it."
I have thought of God's Word changing and convicting hearts and the opposite, providing proof that those who did not change knew better - an indictment. But Charles Stanley talked about Isaiah 55:10-11 also referring to God's promises.
Favorite quotes:
"When people hear of a specific request being met, their faith is strengthened."
"Faith is the capacity to trust God's word above what you see and treat His promises as if they'd already been fulfilled for you."
"If you want to win this battle, you must fight it on your knees alone with Me. Do not argue or stand up for yourself. Remain faithful to Me. I will protect you."
"Your heavenly Father will be faithful to hear your prayers and fulfill His promises. So never question whether your times with the Lord on behalf of others matter. They absolutely do. In fact, they will make more of a difference than you can possibly imagine."
"Knowing that He has permitted the troubles in your life for your benefit makes it easier to forgive those who hurt you and accept the seemingly inexplicable circumstances you must bear."
"When He speaks out for you, everything moves. When He commands, all must obey. And that, friend, is the voice that intercedes for you."
"When I cannot hear Your voice, give me the endurance to keep seeking You and Your will."

Awesome. I got some nuggets of wisdom from this book. I found this book to be very encouraging. I would buy a copy and read it again.
Some quotes I loved from the book:
- “We stand tallest and strongest on our knees.”
- “Pray to the Lord patiently. Continue to seek His face regardless of how long it takes. There will be times when God teaches you His ways and His will at a pace slower than you expect or desire.”
- “Lord, I want to find my future at Your throne.”

I have already learned that prayer is valuable in a believer's life. I believe that truth, as well. But sometimes I need that sweet reminder. Reading this has re-iterrated the great importance to keep persevering in prayer - even when I do not feel like it.

Interesting
I liked the book, but it was short. I can see the spiritual side of pastor Stanley and hope I can take some things from this book.
