A guide to haunted locations in the Charlottesville, Virginia area.
For those who are interested in true ghost stories this is an interesting documentation of ghostly encounters in various Inns, homes, mansions, restaurants and graveyards.
You could build a travel itinerary using the sites in the book.
Found it interesting.
I have also had some interesting encounters of my own so I know it can happen.
I found several ghosts/ghostly encounters in the Stanley Hotel in Colorado- especially on the staircase landing, 2 children dressed in white nightgowns, a seeming presence in another of the downstairs rooms, more malevolent, and another just outside of the gift shop. ( for those of you who may not know about the Stanley Hotel, it is the hotel featured in the movie, "The Shining" with Jack Nicholson.) You can look it up on the internet.
I also had an experience with two ghosts/spirits in an old apartment building I lived in and there was a bit of a nastiness about the tow, they would like to scare me ...but I told them to get out and gave them a big push and they finally left. I have had other experiences as well but those were a couple that stood out. Anyway, I get the idea of ghosts and spirits.

“A Look At Haunted Places In Virginia”

I was given an ARC from the author for an honest Review. In Charlottesville and the surrounding counties are a number of places and buildings that appear to be haunted. The author and her brother tour the wide area, she looking for signs and stories of hauntings, and her brother taking pictures of the places they visit. Most hauntings appear to be connected to battles of the Civil War that took place in this area of Virginia, but there are murders that also tend to have ghostly apparitions, as well.

Reading about the hauntings was fun, though in my opinion they are not restless souls that haven’t crossed over yet, but the evil reflections of violent death and murder that remain in those areas, leaving a passageway for demons to emerge. I also love great architect, and the photographs of the mansions and homes where these hauntings took place are beautifully displayed throughout the narrative.

War is violent and evil, and if we learned anything from the Civil War, brother should not fight brother again. There are other ways to achieve peace without massive killing of one another. Regardless of your opinion of ghosts and phantoms, this book will hold your interest to the last page. Highly recommended.

Ms. Schwartz takes you through the city of Charlottesville and the surrounding counties to many of the haunted spots that are among the ordinary places. Many are historical, but some aren't. If the pandemic is making you develop the itch to travel, I think these would be a good area to start. There are even haunted hotels and bed and breakfasts you can stay at, too. Or if you live in Virginia, many of these places and spots make great day trips this summer and the coming fall. And besides the history, beauty, and even peaceful areas, you just might spot a ghost!

I love ghosts! I am a huge fan of ghost books. When going places if there is a ghost tour offered I am there. I have a box full of ghost hunting equipment and have been in a few ghost hunting groups. I love books that feature hauntings. But I really love True haunting books the best. Susan Schwartz has done an amazing job of bringing the true haunted places together in this book. This book is about the haunted places in Charlottesville North Carolina nd the surrounding counties.

Charlottesville has always been on my bucket list of places to explore and to investigate for ghosts. I have several books on the town. Most of which are books about the history. After reading all of those books I knew it had to be haunted.

This book takes you on a armchair tour of Charlottesville point out the different places where hauntings have been reported. Some of the places are even open to the public. For these public places Susan even lists the address and if known hours. She recommends restaurants and more. She gives you some history of the place and tells you about the hauntings reported. I really enjoyed reading this book. I will be passing through Albemarle next week for a few hours to see our Grandson on our way north for our vacation. I may have to try to convince my husband to use a day so I can visit some of the places in the book.

I received this book from the Author or Publisher to read and review. The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it.

This book has all the good stuff: ghostly tales of civil war soldiers haunting a train station or a battle field, a grief stricken mother stalks a stately manor belonging to the descendants of the famous Aaron Burr, slaves from revolutionary war days crying out agains their mistreatment, the ghost of a freedman protests his extrajudicial lynching. This book covers ghost stories located across to a broad swatch of central and southern Virginia. Come for the spooky tales and stay for the descriptions of the stately plantation manors.
I tucked myself in bed, turned the lights low, and was surprised to feel goosebumps and chills. The transcript of the author's actual "ghost hunt" at the famous Exchange Hotel is particularly delightful.

I love a good ghost story. I don't know why, but I do. I had not read anything by this author previously, so I was excited to do so. In this book the author and her brother tour the areas covered in the book. It seemed to be that most of the sightings/hauntings happened around heavy Civil War areas around Virginia. Not an uncommon thing. I remember doing a ghost tour in Gettysburg, PA and there was so much activity.

One of the things that I liked is the recomendations that the author made through out the book. She gives hours of operation of various places. I enjoyed this book

I received a copy of this book through Silver Dagger blogging program. All thoughts are my own.

Schwartz's Haunted Charlottesville and Surrounding Counties explores the many haunted locations in the history rich area of Charlottesville and its surrounding counties. In addition to looking at well-known, 'popular' spots, many private residences are discussed. This is a territory steeped in the past. From the Revolutionary War, to the Civil War, there are numerous structures left with tales of hauntings. This seems almost always the case with places used as field hospitals. Bloodstains are often present, and no amount of cleaning gets it 100% clean. At the end of each entry, there's a blurb with visiting information, or a notation that this is a private residence. I do wish there were more ghost pictures though!

Good read, especially if you like ghosts and hauntings!
