One of the first-ever books about astrology for kids, Astro Baby is for babies who like to gaze at bright colors, toddlers who are fascinated by images of babies and animals, older children who like learning about their zodiac signs, and grown-ups who are obsessed with their star signs.
The first in Michelle Tea's charming Astro Pals series, Astro Baby shows kids that everyone has unique qualities that make them who they are. Created by superstar scribe Michelle Tea and illustrated with psychedelic abandon by Mike Perry (animator for Broad City), Astro Baby is a fun, clever spin on astrology that will captivate young and old alike.
Michelle Tea (born Michelle Tomasik) is an American author, poet, and literary arts organizer whose autobiographical works explore queer culture, feminism, race, class, prostitution, and other topics. In 2012 Tea partnered with City Lights Publishers to form the Sister Spit imprint.
I am not taking sides here on astrology, okay? I'm not saying I never ever glance at predictions for what my day will be like, just for fun. I have had on a couple occasions succumbed to "having my chart read" by a friend. A couple people I know have interpreted my life through tarot card readings. But there's pretty much the extent of my background with astrology. So there. I am not sure whom this sorta psychedelic picture book is really for. Maybe older children in a wiccan family? If so, could be fun and encouraging. Um, and it's colorful?
Assigning a personality to your baby based on their genitals: broke
Assigning a personality to your baby based on their birth time: woke, I guess????
Paged through this with mounting horror in a bookstore. Seriously, I get why this is a bestselling idea, and also this is fucking awful on every level and I'm begging parents to think twice before exposing their children to this.
