An introduction to the world of knitting - with a nifty how to book. As a beginner, I got confused on the diagrams for casting on and off but I turned to a coworker and the internet to double check how to do that along with the knit and purl stitch. I haven't yet tried any of the tutorials but that is next on my list to do. Overall, a great how-to book, love the photos and the overall look of the book. If you are interested in knitting, pick up this book but also make sure you ask a friend or go online for some tutorials.

Great to have all this intro information in one place, but many times I, as a true knitting beginner, did not understand what it was describing and had to look things up online, only to find much easier to understand instructions there. Maybe it was a sort of British-American translation problem as I am American and the book is from the UK, but regardless this isn't a perfect book to recommend to people wanting to learn how to knit with no prior experience. I would've been worse off learning without it, but it could've been better too.

Got this free from a lady at the local knitting circle, I'm planning to pass it on to a friend who's just starting to get more into knitting. I'm more advanced now but this would have been a great introduction when I was teaching myself to knit from books. Lots of great illustrations and explanations of basic knitting techniques and useful information as well as a good range of solid simple patterns from accessories to basic clothing. Hope my friend will enjoy it.

As my first knitting book, I looked for something that had simple projects, clear instructions, and pictures showing both the process and the result. This is a beautiful book, and covers my needs sufficiently. My largest complaint is strictly focused on the font choices: a light weight, small, sans serif font in colors that fail to stand out from the page. You will need a very bright light in order to read the text. With a better font choice, I'd rank it higher.

I bought this book during my first knitting class. It's a beautiful book that explains things well without being overwhelming, and gives a newbie hope that they can make some beautiful things! I have yet to try any of the patterns in this book, but am hoping to try a couple of things in the new year.
