I'M LIZETTE CLARY, also known as legendary Internet meme Epic Fail Girl. And for the last three months, I've been Jason Moon's pet project. Yes, that Jason Moon. The one with the Pulitzer. He's spending six months training me to become a worthy New Media Editor at RMG, and I've never been so happy being told everything I do is wrong.
Truthfully, I'm more than a little bit into Jason, and the feeling is mutual. Our arrangement's more personal than professional. But he won't work with me if I don't follow his rules: No kissing, no sex, and no falling in love. No big deal! My career is rising fast, dudes hurl themselves at my feet, and there's no reason for me to be hung up on the one man I can't have. Even if I've destroyed three Hitachis and a dozen Kleenex boxes over him. Wait, where'd I put my copy of The Notebook? I need a drink.
I'M JASON MOON, and I'm in deep trouble. I set out to change Lizette Clary. Instead, I'm confronting the cost of prioritizing work over romance in my empty bed every night. For the first time, the price seems too much, my walls too high, my life too lonely. Every day, it feels less crazy to imagine Lizette in my life for the long term.
She's made it clear she doesn't want forever, and I won't settle for anything less. She doesn't deserve another powerful man obsessing over her. There's not a thought in her head I didn't put there, and I won't take advantage of the power I have as her dominant. I've set our rules for a reason: No kissing, no sex, no falling in love. I've only got to make it through my last three months at RMG. And then, somehow, I have to walk away without Lizette Clary.
MY FAIR MILLENNIAL 2 is still a romantic comedy slowly building to an HEA over several books. This modern-day Pygmalion is riddled with offensive age-related humor, super-obscure pop culture jokes, and steamy hot eye-sex at inappropriate times.
To say that this series hasn’t at all been what I expected would be an understatement. It’s definitely taken me by surprise. I can’t remember the last time I pulled an all nighter with a book – honestly, I went to sleep reading and woke up at 1:30 and my Kindle was just right there and I thought “I’ll just read a chapter or two..” The rest is history. *sigh* I never expected to fall for this mismatched duo, but it’s happened now and there’s no going back.
Speaking of understatements… let’s just say that calling Jason and Lizette a “mismatch” is not an exaggeration. They are about as polar opposite as you can get, but somehow, the chemistry between them is off the charts. Yet, they go to great lengths to ignore it – and they fail miserably. Although it seems that Jason is the one who is helping Lizette grow as a fully functional person, he’s not beyond being influenced by her as well. He’s loosening up and enjoying himself a bit more. Some eye-opening events caused him to take a good hard look at himself and his past that was long over due.
Readers also got to know some supporting characters a little better. Some were great, some… not so much, but they all added to the craziness surrounding Jason and Lizette.
I guess what took me most by surprise was the emotion that I felt in this second installment of My Fair Millennial. Not that I’m not used to emotion coming from this author’s ultra-ego, but even after reading the first book, I wasn’t expecting to be so emotionally drawn to these characters. It was supposed to be a fun, silly romp with witty characters and a sexy edge. For the most part, it is all those things, but it’s also a whole lot more. I really shouldn’t be surprised.
There’s only one book left in My Fair Millennial and after the final chapter in this book, I can’t wait to see what happens next. I may or may not have mentioned cliff hanger in one of my comments when I finished. I’m not sure that totally describes what happened… or didn’t happen… or I wanted to happen? Jason kind of took me by surprise (which he does on a fairly regular basis) and I loved every minute of it 😉
I received My Fair Millennial in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Okay. OKAY. It seemed like Lizette was on the path to a better, almost-adult version of herself at the end of book 1 and, in a lot of ways, she was. BUUUUT she has terrible coping mechanisms and she falls back on them far too easily when there's no one around to make sure she's not turning into the pre-Jason Lizette V1.
I actually totally get how that happens. The girl does NOT deal with her problems. She buries them beneath alcohol and partying and being the IT girl of the moment. Unfortunately for her, her moments usually come from having the most embarrassing times in her life splashed across social media for people to dissect and mock. Which sends her into even deeper into manic mode which causes more problems for her down the line.
Jason really is her stabling influence. But he's not perfect. Things cause him to pull away from Lizette *glares balefully at that thing* and...well, actually, he gained some much-needed perspective where she was concerned while they were apart. So I might not like that thing *glares again*, but I can appreciate how something bad can cause a fundamental shift in one's understanding of the world around them. Or of how much they might miss the pain in their side when it isn't beside them anymore.
FYI, Lizette isn't the only one benefiting from their quasi-relationship. Jason's learning to loosen up (a little, at least) and he's figuring out that he's allowed to make mistakes. I can't ever imagine him at Lizette's level of catastrophe (although I'm not ruling it out simply because Lizette is a force of nature, man. I put nothing past her.), but he's starting to take risks and that's a good thing.
This series is hilariously whacked and I kinda love it. It's insane and sometimes sad and oddly introspective and I am SO down to see how the manic pixie dream girl and the buttoned-up professional find a way to make things work.
Book 2 and I'm still in love! Lizette Clary is everything that should be annoying and horrible, but somehow has forced me to fall madly in love with her. It's magic of the most awesome kind!
We join Lizette after making some big progress on the "Jason Moon Diet" - she can now essentially function as a working adult. She's still wild and crazy, but without the insanity that was getting in the way of her producing stellar work. Jason Moon is still hovering right at the edge of being in a real relationship with her, but they are so maddeningly in denial that it seems it will never happen. They are working hard to balance the muse/photographer relationship, the co-editor relationship, and whatever their dom/sub relationship ends up being. Sure - what could go wrong?
Well, for one thing, Jason's ex-muse resurfaces in the worst way. Also, Lizette's current/ex/whatevers end up being in the same place at the same time. Pop all of that in the blender with some organic kale, and you have a snippet of the lives of these two unlikely companions. There's a bunch of drama that happens (obviously), some dark and horrible turns, but in the end, I put the book down with a smile on my face. Did I mention I pretty much read this in one sitting? These books are seriously addictive. Give me more!
As much as I impatiently hate waiting for continuation books, there is something so fun about getting to delve deeper into characters when their story is spread across more than one book. What I loved about book two was that it really did delve. In book one, Jason identified many of Lizette’s professional deficiencies and set out to improve them. And while he seemed to recognize that some of those came from deeper issues, it wasn’t something he looked at in depth. In book two, we got to witness the fallout of a Lizette who, becoming used to order with instruction, fell completely back into her old ways when forced to go it alone again. Enter a different Jason - one who immediately realized his initial mistakes regarding Lizette’s mental health - and one that also recognized that he couldn’t change her by himself. This book was all kinds of profound, and took great pains to explore mental illness without adding the usual stigmas - Megan Morgan, anyone? Aside from all of that rather seriousness, this book still managed to retain its heartfelt hilarity from book one. I couldn’t help but to fall a little bit more in love with both characters, and not really despite the warts, but probably because of them. I hope Elle never stops writing quirky rom-coms!
This story picks up where book 1 left off. May include SPOILERS.
Jason & Lizette are still working together, but he is giving her a new listing of things to do. 1. Have 1 boyfriend. 2. No excessive touching (between the two of them, that is). There's more, but these are the two that she is having trouble with. She wants Jason, but he keeps pushing her away. She puts together a photo shoot to duplicate one of his, but the male model hired to play the husband gets hit by a car and ends up in the hospital seriously injured. Jason steps up, but he can't get in to the part & everyone is miserable. During lunch she gets Jason to practice, and it's great. They don't know that they've been secretly photographed until later when she gets a call from the photographer they hired. The pictures are wonderful showing the chemistry these two have.
She gets invited to a baseball game by one of the guys she's been seeing, only to get there & the other man she's been seeing is there too. She dumps both guys at the game only to realize too late that she has dumped them on the kiss cam. Epic Fail Girl has a new epic fail & this one's called "The Big Dump."
I'm still loving Jason & Lizette. The chemistry is sizzling & once again, it ends on a cliffhanger. So looking forward to book 3.
It really looked like Lizette was getting herself together when we left her and Jason in book one, but the old saying a leopard doesn't change its spots comes to mind with her. I know, I know she is tryingbut good golly that girl really doesn't have much luck and lord only knows how Jason sticks with her ... oh wait thats right he can't let her go bless his cotton socks. There is plenty of hilarity and and of course some cringe worthy moments as we see Jason and Lizette go through a new phase in their relationships which gives some new insight into Lizette as well as Jason seeing her a bit differently.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange of a review. I feel like this one was better than the first one. I was laughing a lot and rolling my eyes at Lizette's antics. I can't wait to see her and Jason's relationship develop more. No way she sticks with The Kid. I'm also really enjoying a lot of the side characters. I would love to see me more Larry and future books.
This is second in a series, and I'm still not crazy about the female main character who is a hot mess most of the time and doesn't seem to respect herself at all. But, I like the male lead, who is trying (not very successfully) to help her reform without getting caught up in her issues. And I keep hoping for a breakthrough on her part. Perhaps the third in the series will be that breakthrough?
Brilliant continuation of Lizette and Jasons ongoing connection. As with the first book its hilarious but often hiding a deeper pain. I love these 2 characters - they are polar oposited but they fit - if only the world and life will let them get their acts together. Superb!
This second book leaves me frustrated. I was hoping for a more mature Lizette. I still don't like her. Jason, the male lead, is the reason I keep reading. I'm going to drudge through the third book, but I don't have high hopes of it getting better.
an awesome second installment of Lizette and Jason where Jason teaches Lizette how to adult while they both try to ignore the underlying attraction, querky enjoyable read.
I got this e-book for free as an ARC review. This is part two of a new trilogy. The second book is even better than the first! There’s lots of tension between the main characters who have both grown since Book One. The sexual tension is intense and I’m really hoping that these two sort things out in the next book! I’m eagerly awaiting the final instalment.
It seemed like Lizette was on the path to a better, almost-adult version of herself at the end of book 1. However when we pick up book 2 we are reminded that she she has terrible coping mechanisms (read drugs, alchol and sex) and she falls back on them far too easily when there's no one around to make sure she's not turning into who she was pre-Jason. Jason also removes himself slightly because he isn't quite as strong when it comes to his heart.
So in book 2 we see both of them struggling. In their own ways and really trying to figure out how and if they do in fact fit together in some way.
I thought it was very interesting in the character development front and Elle sets is up to have more books with these two so I wonder where it is going to go next.
