Wolf and his fellow SEAL team members have saved many lives, and been in even more harrowing situations, but their latest mission might prove the most difficult of all. Charged with rescuing American soldier, Sergeant Penelope Turner, from the clutches of ISIS, the men infiltrate the refugee camp where she’s believed to be held. The conditions are horrific, the search nearly impossible, but Penelope herself could prove the key to their success…if the SEALs can interpret her clues.
An unforgiving desert, perilous mountain terrain, a rising body count and insurgents on the hunt…all of this and more stands between the SEALs completing their mission and returning home to their women, left to bravely deal with fears of their own stateside.
Sometimes a mission is more than one team can handle. With a little help from newfound friends, the SEALS won’t stop until they’ve won the day. Failure is not an option.
** Protecting the Future is the 8th and final book in the Seal of Protection Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.
New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author, Susan Stoker has a heart as big as the state of Tennessee where she lives, but this all American girl has also spent the last fourteen years living in Missouri, California, Colorado, Indiana, and Tennessee. She's married to a retired Army man who now gets to follow her around the country.
I loved this book. I loved this series. Thank you so much Ms. Stoker for this series. Protecting the Future reminded me so much why I pre-ordered each book after Protecting Caroline. The strength, the smarts and the perseverance of Penelope (Tiger) was so admirable that words cannot describe it. The suspense of whether all the Seals would return unscathed or at all was almost paralyzing. The movement from each Seal family to another at the beginning caused me to fear that someone was not going to return. So much so that it took me 3 days to read because I needed to carve out some time to read.
The love between each of the Seals, the love of the Seals for their families and the creation of families by birth, adoption or by the decision not to have on children because there was satisfaction in the collective children relationships is so well described and crafted. The inclusion of Julie. from Protecting Fiona, into the wives circle was phenomenal.
Thank you for this series. For the purity of love and commitment between all the characters. Though I will miss this set of characters as primary characters, I hope to see them in periodically in the Delta Force series. So I'm sad that this series is done but am so excited to read the 1st book in the Delta Force book featuring Ghost.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I can't believe that this is the end of the series. For those of you considering reading this series please do its a brilliant series and this is the icing on top of the cake. I loved this book, I laughed, I cried and I found out why Benny got his nickname, not due to an obsession with ABBA as was my guess. I've never been so nervous and on edge reading a book. I needed to know what happened next and if everyone made it OK. This book let's you catch up with the guys, see them as family men as well as kick ass SEALs. Normally you don't see them in action but in this one you're in the thick of it with them. It was brilliant! Susan Stoker, you are a great writer, I couldn't put the book down. I can't wait to read Penelope's story, she was fantastic. In fact I can't wait for the stories of Penelope and her fire fighters buddies as well as the Delta Force guys. Ghost sounds intriguing to say the least. 2016 looks to be a great year for readers (Stalkers) of Susan Stoker.
*cue It's So Hard to Say Good-bye by Boys II Men* Okay, I know this isn't really a good-bye to these beloved characters though, since they will make appearances in books in future series, so it's actually a see you later. But honestly, it feels like when a loved one is moving far away and you're sad because you don't fully know when you'll get to see them again. *quietly sobs* I admit I may be a little more emotional regarding this since this series was my introduction to Susan's work. You know that feeling when you discover a new to you author and you know, you just know, it's going to be a long and beautiful bookship? (Yes, I just invented a word. It's a relationship that starts based upon books.) That's what happened to me within minutes of starting Protecting Caroline, book one in this series. Everything just hit all my bookworm feels and I was addicted. I've since read every one of her books and have never been disappointed and I honestly don't see me ever being disappointed in her work. I know, that's a pretty bold statement, but that just shows how confident I am in her work.
I love that this book takes place two years after Protecting Melody as we get to see all the couples more established in their new roles as husbands/wives, and for some, as parents. I'm not telling you who has kids, who doesn't, who decided not to, who is pregnant, who is waiting, and who is talking about it. You'll need to read and find that out for yourself. *wink* So we join our beloved characters as one family is celebrating the official adoption of their kids. Nope, still not spilling the beans. We get to see everyone enjoying family time. It's a beautiful thing to see and that memory will help get these couples through some hard times coming up as a mission is looming closer everyday.
There are reports about three American hostages and one of them is Penelope Turner. She has since become a "tool" for the terrorists to spout their agenda and while it seems she's on board with everything she's saying, Caroline can tell by the look in her eyes that she's playing the part required of her, but there's still fight left in her. Caroline, having experienced being tortured and held hostage herself, feels a strong kinship with Penelope and what she is and could be enduring. As the orders become official, the families say their good-bye for nows, and pour every ounce of love they can into their last night together. As none of them know how long they'll be apart, it's definitely a struggle, but they know their men need them to be strong. They'll let the emotions fully loose once the women start "Operation Support."
I have to say, I know this is a book, yet this happens on a regular basis in real life and I am in awe of the strength of these families. The unknown, the fear, the loneliness...everything that goes into being the family of military personnel...you all amaze me with your sacrifices.
So as the mission is underway, the guys start looking for Penelope and finally catch her crumb clues. LOL Yes, she left clues. Of course, she didn't know who would find them, but she held out hope that someone from her government would come for her. Plus, her brother, Cade, made sure that no one forgot about her. He continually kept her name and face in the news and did whatever he needed to make her rescue a priority. When all is said and done, the beginning of the mission, arriving there, searching for and locating Penelope, then officially rescuing her, was pretty uncomplicated. Now if only it would've stayed that way.
On the home front, the women and kids miss the guys, yet they know they'll always do everything they can to come back to them safely. That is definitely going to be tested this time.
The book changes viewpoints throughout, focusing on the guys and Penelope and the women and children, pretty equally, and I really love that Susan did that. Unfortunately, their ride out of the danger zone is shot down and things are not looking good. There are some injured. Yes, they will be okay, but it makes the rest of their mission difficult going as they all need to lean heavily on each other to return home safely. Throughout this, we see the determination of this team and how well they work together and truly trust each other. We see how strong Penelope, aka Tiger as the guys now call her, is as she's continually fighting to stay strong and is not at one hundred percent due to her being held hostage. We also see the women as they learn their men may not make it home.
We see all the women, including Melody and Julie, comfort each other as they hold out hope that everyone will return. We see Tex do what he does best as he's constantly monitoring the guys (thank goodness, Jessyka talked the guys into carrying trackers after the situation she and Benny found themselves in.) We also meet a Delta Force team that Tex has worked with before, everyone knows Tex, and they help rescue the rescue mission. (I am so looking forward to learning more about this team in their new series starting soon.)
Will their rescue mission be a success? Will one team member make it home in time to see his first child being born? What happens to Penelope now? Will she stay in the military or concentrate fully on being a firefighter? (Yes, we'll also see more of her, her brother, Cade, and their co-workers in an upcoming series about a group of firefighters. So excited.) What gift does Penelope receive at the end? Psst...all I'll say regarding that is that I absolutely love the gift and thought it was very appropriate on who the gift is from. It was another perfect example to coincide with the balance of the personal and professional lives of these beloved characters. I highly recommend this book, this series, this author.
**I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.**
I had to mentally prepare for the end. And by ‘mentally ‘prepare’ I mean hibernate with enough food and drink to see me through re-reading the first seven books in the series, savoring each one, one more time. I wanted to be as ready as possible to say goodbye to a group of men and women who by now I know (and love). I was ready, sort of…
As the SEAL team gathers for yet another dangerous mission there is much going on on the home front as well. There have been lots of changes for everyone over the last few years with marriages and children increasing the size of the team’s circle of family. As Wolf and the team deal with another life-threatening situation, Caroline, Tex and the ladies are navigating their own harrowing issues.
There was so much turmoil, drama and emotion it was impossible not to read this story in one nail-biting, incredible session. This story introduced Penelope Turner and a new circle of soldiers and firefighters to the fold while at the same time updating us on all the SEAL couples and their families. An ensemble sendoff was such a great way to say goodbye!
With all the characters providing their own unique spin and personalities into each situation the book read much too quickly for me. I wanted to take it slowly yet I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. A bittersweet yet so satisfying revisit with my favourite seal team. With new characters introduced who are equally strong and compelling, I know there are more great stories to come. I still hope this group will continue to pop in to update us from time to time…
Five happy and sad stars!
Thank you to the author for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Reviewed for Give Me Books.
Protecting The Future is a bit of a extended epilogue type of book. Its a full length novel that features our team of the series, going on a dangerous mission and also seeing the impact of the dangers of their mission on their women at home including one couple where Cheyenne is close to giving birth to their first child. I really was intrigued by this one. The character they rescue is a woman who has her own story in another series by this author, which looks intriguing. Now there isn't really a romance in this book, we are just seeing the romantic relationships of the characters who have already had books so far in the series. I did love seeing them all in their happily ever after, and really seeing them work through some challenges. We see the brotherhood bond of this team to survive no matter what. We see the women coming together and being such a fierce support for each other. So this book I would say was just a gift to readers that the author wrote. I do love these kind of books that authors will do for their readers, its such fun to see this and I had a great time with it.

This was the perfect conclusion to one of my favorite series!! In this final farewell we get the best of everything. We see A look into everyone's lives, lots of action, drama and some really hot scenes!!! I love how the book flows and everyone is on center stage! Can't wait to see what the future holds. And the reason behind Benny's name is hilarious!!! Must read!!!
I really wish I could give this book more then 5 stars. This book encompassed everything one could and would want, it made me laugh, made me sad, made me cry and kept me on the edge of my seat as if I was watching a movie. And I honestly would watch it if it ever made into a movie. Wolf and his fellow SEAL team members have saved many lives, and been in even more harrowing situations, and yes I borrowed this, yet now on their latest mission and one that could prove to me more difficult of all, their mission is to rescue an American Soldier Sergeant Penelope Turner from the ISIS. The place she is, is terrible, the stench of death and despair is there, their lives are in danger, but it all depends on her. Here we also see the love and pain they go upon telling their wives that they are going on a mission, not an easy thing for them, because for the 1st time they are worried about the outcome of their mission. Will they rescue the Soldier held by ISIS, will they all return home to their Families, read the book, its well worth the read, characters are fantastic even as new ones are introduced to the mix. I know I will read it again and again.
I received a copy of this book for an honest review. The 8th and final installment of the SEAL of Protection series is every bit as good as the others, maybe even better. It's a few years in the future and the gang is still at it. This time the Seals are sent to Turkey to rescue Sergeant Penelope Turner, while the women are at home, staying strong, and take care of one other like they do best. I love how they are all one big family, and take care of each other, through thick and thin, no matter what life throws at them. This book has it all, action, suspense, romance, humor, and the introductions to new characters for the next series. It had me laughing, and crying, not wanting it to end, but ready to find out how it all turns out. I love how we finally found out how Benny got his name. I can't wait to find out more about the Delta Force, Firefighters, and more of Sgt Turner's story. If your looking for a great read, I highly recommend this book, and the rest of the Seal of Protection series!
Protecting the Future by Susan Stoker was the bomb, it kept me on the edge of my seat. Oh my...Susan Stoker can write, it feels like you are in in the story with the characters. There is so much emotions in this book one minute you are smiling and next you are sad. The action in this boo, is out of this world. I haven't not read all the books in this series, but I will be reading them all now. I am so excited to see what is to come in the future with this author. I highly recommend this book and series, you will not want to miss it, they are page turners.
I was given an ARC of this book by the publisher, for my honest review.
Now this is the way to wrap up a series. We got time with each couple, saw their love and how good their lives have been, got to see them as a group and separated out, the men and women. It was nice to see the women stay strong when the guys were sent on a mission.
The mission was interesting, from who they were going after, from how they found their quarry, to what happened afterward.
The ending was great, I loved how we got to see each couple express their love and how the guys honored a new person they claimed into their group.
Blown Away!! I feel like that a lot when it comes to this series. Everytime I finished a book in this series I was blown away but this particular story is book hangover material! This story is the PERFECT ending to an awesome series. It has all the elements of the rest of the stories in this series but it brings everything full circle. It gives you a very satisfied feeling that life for the SEALs will continue to be exciting and filled with love in the future.
This book definitely cannot be read as a standalone. Its more of an extended epilogue for the series. SEAL of Protection. It was very satisfying to read about all the Team members and their wives and families.
This is the best book of the series! Unlike many “victory lap” style books that go back and review the characters, this one did it so well! It is set a few years after book 7. We get to check in with each couple, who are still in love and in different phases of their families. When the men are sent off on a mission, there’s a gripping back and forth between home and the mission. I liked seeing the men on a mission when there was not a love interest. Maybe we’ll get more of that in future books (hint, hint, Ms. Stoker). Plus, we are introduced to Penelope, who I hope to read more about later in another book. Does she get her own? I thoroughly enjoyed this ebook. 5/5
I enjoy the whole series of theses books. Everyone of these books were awesome. Action packed , they could make you smile and laugh and also make you cry! So if your looking for story line that continue with some the same people in the books. These book make feel like you have met a long lost friend. Thank very much from avid reader!!
Great book! One of those I couldn’t put down. It’s full of high action, romance and the not so nice realities of the modern world. It deserves more than 5 stars.
I was quite surprised at how much more action there was in this book and truly appreciated how the writer incorporated some realism to their situation. Not everything and everyone was fine and dandy after their little mishap. I'm also glad we really got to see them in action on one of their own missions rather than running home to save a damsel in distress. This one felt so much more real and showed that things can go wrong and I actually did get a little scared at some points that one of them was not gonna make it even though I knew deep down the writer would never go there after all they've been through. The suspense was built up and made me worry for not just the guys but Cheyenne as well. It was different and refreshing that it took a step in a new direction rather than relying on the kidnapped girlfriend trope. This book demonstrated the writer stepping out of her comfort zone and trying something new which I really liked and might even get me to try one of her other series.
While it felt weird at first seeing some of them with kids, in the end I think it was good for them. They've showed some maturity and their behavior is much more like women in their thirties are supposed to be to me. Only one scene I got a little annoyed with them when they put Tex on the spot but then remembered they're going out of their minds with worry and grief over them being reported missing and the guys weird behavior before they left. Although I didn't think it was within Caroline's rights to withhold information from the other girls that their husbands were ok if Matthew had told her she couldn't. They have every right to know what she does but she is a lot less annoying this time around.
I didn't like Penelope...at all. Her attitude was ugly and demanding. She reminded me of Julie in the jungle, only difference was she knew how to help out and pull her weight. I found it odd that she was leaving clues when she had no idea that there were people sent to rescue her. I mean she was gone for months already without being saved, so why would she assume that there just had to be a team sent to get her out? When they found her, she was b*tching about why they hadn't saved her yet for all she knew no one was coming for her. She hadn't seen them, she hadn't heard talk of them, so it made no sense for her to be thinking she was gonna die one night and the next wondering what was taking them so long after she'd left her clues. Again, she had no way of knowing there were people there for her. Then she had the nerve to complain it's about time you guys got here to the guys risking their own lives for her? Seriously? That's how you thank them? She just had such a bad attitude that the guys brush under the rug because she's in the same field and is obviously trying to prove just because she's a female doesn't mean she's weak. I get what she's trying to convey but she went about it the wrong way and took out her frustration on the wrong people. She's also not helping her cause any by acting like a snarky, bratty, teenager. She did thank them all in the end I'll give her that but I also don't understand why the guys took a liking to her enough to give her a tracker. Granted they knew her a like a day longer than other hostages and she was in their line of work but still, she wasn't exactly anyone special or nice to be around.
This seemed like a book for the hardcore fans of this series, I guess a proper farewell for these characters that readers have come to love so the writer could move on to a new series. I respect that and commend her for giving back to her readers who supported her first series. I actually started the series right after book 3 had just been released and continued on with the rest as they came out but am just now struggling to review all of the books I've read so I'm in re-read mode. Anyway, this series as a whole was a struggle to get through and I'll be honest most of the books I didn't enjoy at all but 4/10 ok books, I'll take it. The writer has real potential and much room for improvement if you ask me. I've thought about it and the teaser from Rescuing Rayne intrigued me enough to give that series a try. Maybe a different environment and a different set of men and women is what I need from this writer. I did enjoy the last look at each couple's personal lives and the fabulous ending scene, even though I didn't care for Penelope, was a nice salute to the guys in the series and their being there for her was admirable, especially that they asked Tex to go with them as well to show he's part of the team. I might not have enjoyed the series as much as everyone else but I give credit where it's due. That last scene was the perfect way to give the guys their concluding send off for the readers and one I'll remember as one of the best final scenes in a series. Great job, Susan.
I was given this book in turn for an honest review!
The SEALS latest mission is one at the heart of the nation; Sergeant Penelope Turner was kidnapped by ISIS extremists and they have been enlisted to rescue her. With time being of the essence and this mission nothing short of extreme, failure is NOT an option.
I honestly don’t know where to start with how amazing this final book in the SEAL series truly is! Susan Stoker captures each of the characters traits and relationships right from where she left them, nothing is out of place or contradicted; she has excelled at writing a perfect and epic finale for this SEAL team that have become like family to me. I will miss each and every one of them and their wives.
Wolf showed his true leadership and love for his team in this mission, he was the calm and collective one they needed to guide them through this mission. He knew each SEAL, like himself had good reason to get home and he would do everything in his power to make sure that happened. The relationship he and Caroline have has always been my favourite, without realising, Caroline became as much Wolf’s rock as he had for her. As written in this book, she and Wolf were the glue that kept the team together and strong.
This book and their mission was one of the most exciting and adrenalin pumping yet! My heart was constantly beating fast with the cliff-hanger’s some of the chapters left us with; this is not the kind of book you can put down easily, the urge to keep reading is what kept me awake until 2am reading! It’s really that good!
It was good to see how the SEAL family had grown; and that having children had neither broken nor torn the family apart or in separate directions. Those without children stepped in and helped when support was needed and every gathering included all the team, no one was ever left out; again reinforcing the true friendship, love and strength of this SEAL family.
At long last Susan Stoker revealed to us how Kason ‘Benny’ Sawyer got his nickname, this part of the book although at a very crucial stage in the story had me in hysterics! I even had to re-read it a few times because it was pure genius; this is a nickname that no amount of guessing would have revealed!
We get an insight in this book into characters from future series Susan Stoker is writing, I can already safely say I am desperate to get my hands on these books!
This book will have you in tears, have your heart racing, and have you in hysterics and above all else routing for this team from start to finish. Failure is not an option and a SEAL never leaves a SEAL behind!
Protecting the Future is a passion fuelled, action packed romance with suspense and a MUST READ! Although this book can be read as a standalone, I personally recommend reading the series in order, starting with Protecting Caroline.
I very much enjoyed this one. it is a really nice "ending" (I say it that way b/c when this came out it was supposed to be the end of this series, but there has since been other short stories with the SEAL team and Tex).
This sets up a mission for the team and the start is a bit on the cheesy side with a scene for each couple setting up the guys leaving on a mission, and the worry they all have going into this one. We are introduced to a LOT of kids (as in nearly all the couples have them) that that kinda popped up with out any back story. And even Tex and Melody have adopted a girl who lost her arm. You'd think with all the detail there would have been a story that I missed, but no, I asked the author, she just tossed Akilah in there with no background. (she has now as of 12/2021 written a story of how they met, it was in a free Anthology only available 12/2021, and b/c of the timing of the writing there are a few time line issues with the story, as in all the notes about the Deltas that haven't happened b/c they happen after Protecting the Future so if Akilah is already with Tex and Melody then Rayne and Emily(Annie) have not met their Deltas yet. (but that is a whole other side story)
So back to this one: It introduces Penelope and her brother Sledge, who are in the Badge of Honor series.
and what this book really does in intros the Delta Force Heroes team. And having read that series first it was nice to see how the start of Rescuing Rayne ties in and continues on from that point. And it was nice to already know that team as they show up and see how they work together and then the meeting of the two teams.
I have read all of Susan Stoker's books on the Seals and I have to say that this was one of the best that I have read. I love all the characters in this series, but the wives I love probably more than anything. They are such strong women and they are right there for their men. I was great to see what the ending of the series was. I am sad to have read the last of the series, but I would recommend to anyone this series or any series that Susan writes. She is a great writer and keeps you on the edge of your seat with what is happening to the main characters. I was a little scared if they where all going to make it out alive, but she didn't disappoint me with any major cliff hangers. Thank you for letting me know how the team is doing in the future. You are the best writer. I can't wait for the next series to begin. I would recommend that if your love to read stories about military, law enforcement, or firefighters than I would get Susan's books from the first book in the series to the last, you won't be disappointed.
The 8th and final book of the Protecting series and I'm amazed by the story even further. The writing was like you were there with them. I cried and laughed through the whole story as I read of Penelope's trials, the men's mission to rescue her, and the women's trials on the home/family front! Penelope's strength reminds me a lot of Caroline in how she handles herself and the situation she finds herself in. Mrs Stoker doesn't disappoint in her ability to tell 8 different story's views in 1 perfect tale. I loved how everyone had a voice in the story, it wasn't about 1 couple, it was about the whole family! I'm sorry to see the series end, but I know that it won't be the last we'll see of everyone. And the ending, oh my, the last scene of the book had me literally with tears streaming down my face. I can't say enough how much I really loved this book and it was worth the wait. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review, and I've pre-ordered it for my collection!
I'm so sad it's over, but so happy some of these characters will be back in future books! I love this series like family. Penelope is a strong Army soldier with an attitude and that gets her through her months as a captive of ISIS and all the horror and abuse she suffers, but she is sure she will be found and rescued. She even leaves some bread crumbs for her rescuers.
The SEAL team is sent into enemy territory to find Penelope. Their wives and families are left behind. The things the guys go through to get Penelope out would kill most men, but not the Super Seals, with the help of Tex on computers.
Such a bittersweet read. I couldn't wait to read it, but knowing it was the last book of the series made it a hard read. It was a great book though, with tons of edge of your seat action. I couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting. I can't to read the delta force books and the firefighter books! I expect wonderful things!
Protecting The Future was extraordinary. It has it all: classified mission, hostage rescue, highly charged situation, hard hitting action, birth, death, and joyous homecomings. We are intoduced to new characters from another series too. I admit I shed a few tears reading the poignant last chapter. I LOVED this series!
