Submission #2

Once Burned

Rate this book
DANIEL:

I’m out of the fire, but I might still get burned.

After being pulled from the flames, I wake up in a giant-sized bed with no clue as to how I got there. When the man of my dreams walks in smelling like cinder and smoke, he sets the record straight. The cabin fire was my fault, and he saved my life. Now he wants me to follow his orders.

Running my mouth usually gets me in trouble, but this giant knows how to deal with my sharp tongue. Wes wants to control me, and as much as I like to act out, submission is sweeter.

I’m spending the rest of my trip in this bear’s den. I came here to rough it, but I didn’t know Wes would be the biggest beast around. He might just break me.

But maybe I want to be broken.

WES:

I took him into my arms and under my will.

I don’t usually bring people to my bed after rescuing them, but there’s something different about Daniel. He’s not helpless, but he needs guidance. Something about him stokes a fire in me, and I’m eager to let it burn.

Daniel wants a taste of life deep in the Alaskan mountains. He’s in over his head, and damned if I can’t resist telling him what to do. He sparks something primal in me—an urge to dominate.

And Daniel couldn’t be a more willing subject. He might not know it yet, but he's already mine. I’m going to hold him so close it might burn.

Daniel’s a wildfire, but that’s what I’m trained to control.

This is the second book in the Submission series. It can be enjoyed as a standalone with no cliffhanger. Readers can expect an extra spicy MM romance with several steamy scenes.

I have now read 9 books by this author (yeah I know I still have a lot of his to get too...) and I can say without a doubt that this is my favorite so far. Part of it is simply said... Wes and Daniel. This couple for some reason really got to me in every way. The author did an incredible job of making these two three-dimensional and very quickly they both became somones I cared about a heck of a lot! This book was almost hyper-focused on these two and their developing relationship. Due to this the secondary characters were only there as needed and did their job but never interfered with the main focus of Wes and Daniel. For those who are not fans of heavy duty Dom/sub stories, fear not, this book is definitely on the diet soda side of that particular fetish and you don't have to be a fan of it to thoroughly enjoy this book. One of the things that particularly stood out for me in this book was that by the end the author made me feel as it I had actually visited Alaska. I have no idea if he has ever visited the state, but if not then I give him high marks for doing extensive research and then writing in such a way to make mme feel as if I was there myself! It also helps that Alaska and the author's particular style of writing fit very well together... I mean if any place is gonna inspire poetic prose I would definitely think Alaska would be one of them. This book was such a wonderful read, the author took such time with not just the characters and story, but the setting as well. This made this book a true joy to read.

I received this ARC from the author and have voluntarily chosedn to review it!

Nice

This was another cute, nice easy to read story with no angst. Both main characters were easy going and relaxed getting to know each other.

‘I felt little flicker of intense desire for this made-up dream guy.’

Southern born author Jason Collins now lives in New York and as he states ’I've started calling myself a ‘southern New Yorker.’ Jason has sixteen successful novels to his credit so far. ONCE BURNED is Book 2 in his new Submission series, the initial novel was simply titled OBEDIENCE – and as those titles suggest these books are about Bondage and Discipline.

Jason takes a fresh look at ‘improbable romances’ and in doing so helps us to understand how love can conquer all! His characters are very well painted and interesting people, and the situations in which he elects to place them may be familiar - a firefighter rescuing a fire victim only to alter the relationship between hero and victim to one of willing discipline.

The synopsis provides a fine overview of the novel’s story by providing he stance of each of the two characters, Daniel and Wes: ‘‘Daniel - I’m out of the fire, but I might still get burned. But maybe I want to be broken in. Wes - I took him into my arms and under my will. He doesn’t know it yet, but he’s playing with fire. I’m going to hold him so close it might burn. Daniel’s a wildfire, but that’s what I’m trained to control.’

To set the tone, Jason opens his story with the following – ‘I woke up with no idea whose bed I was in and no memory of how I’d arrived there. Eyes still closed, I stretched out my limbs and felt the thick, heavy blankets holding me down against what felt like a large, cozy mattress. I drew in a breath and smelled the masculine, woody scent in the snug sheets, noticing that this did not feel like the cold, lonely cabin I’d been staying in. In fact, it couldn’t have felt more different. I’d spent the last few nights trying to rough it in the middle of nowhere Alaska, but I felt like I was waking up in a five-star lodge. That was when I realized that I wasn’t in my cabin anymore. I was somewhere else. Someone had taken me….’ Welcome to Jason’s imagination!

Well plotted at a fine pace, Jason’s new novel has zing! And he has provided a very fresh look a BDSM! His writing style grows more secure and sophisticated. He is well on the way to the top!

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the second book in the Submission series, but it can be read as a standalone. In this book, Daniel is a pilot in Alaska and he goes on vacation in the wilderness in a dry cabin, which means no water or electricity. Daniel is not really a great outdoors man and when he tries to light a fire for warmth, he sets the cabin on fire. Wes is the local fire captain and he rescued Daniel. Wes took Daniel back to his house to care for him and make sire he was okay. When Daniel woke up, he thought he was dreaming the mountain of a man from his fantasies. Wes and Daniel had an instant attraction to one another and Wes was more dominating of Daniel. Wes knew he wanted Daniel and there was something about him that drew him in. When Daniel submitted to Wes, he knew Wes would never hurt him and he would protect him. Their attraction to one another keeps growing and Daniel is thrilled to be with Wes. Wes finds himself being able to open up to Daniel and tell him about his past and he feels his feelings growing stronger. I really enjoyed this book. I loved how close they grew and how Wes included Daniel in everything, he wasn't ashamed with being with a man and didn't care what anyone thought. I felt Daniel became more sure of himself and opened up himself. I think they had amazing chemistry. The descriptions of Alaska makes me want to rush there. I am really enjoying this series.

This book was quite an awesome book. I found that I couldn't get enough of the two main characters.
I liked that Wes was so sure of himself/worth that he owned who he was by just being himself.
Daniel was such a sweetheart, he definitely had me fall for him and his beautiful heart. It made me sad he was so unsure of himself and he was felt about. But I did love the scene where he came into himself and took charge and told everyone what was needed to do when it came to getting the helicopters
de-iced.
It was nice reading Wes's reaction, because he was so unsure to begin with but trusted him to help.
I was privileged with reading this book as a arc and am so glad I was because normally I'm not a big reader or submission type books books because a little is ok but I'm not into extreme submissions.
So this book was in the book just perfect section for me.
This is a book I highly recommend, it was extremely well written and the storyline was perfect. So I say go out and grab this book asap you won't regret it.

Jason Collins delivers another hot and sweet story with this book and it’s a great addition to this series! I absolutely love the setting, described in such great detail I feel like I’m in that world! I really enjoyed Daniel and Wes, although Daniel wasn’t what I expected I totally loved him. Wes is big and a bit scary but his heart is so amazing, especially when he realizes what Daniel means to him.

I loved the chemistry and connection between these two, yes they are hot together but it’s not just the bedroom, it’s everything between them. Daniel had planned on a vacation exploring some of Alaska he only flies over, he wanted new experiences and he certainly finds them with Wes. These two understand that what they have is special and they want to continue to build a life together. Again, I loved these two! They just made my heart happy. Definitely an enjoyable read and a great addition to this series!!

Once Burned by author Jason Collins is the second book in the Submission series. This book does not have to be read in order. I loved this story just as a standalone.
There is great chemistry in this book that is the drive for me to read this one. Wes and Daniel might not be the likeliest of couples, but they are steamy together.
Wes is a local firefighter captain. Pure heart and soul. He is built like a dream and has a great heart that just shines through.
Daniel is the comic relief at times in this book. City slicker fits for a description. He is a good person sometimes a bit naïve, but he has a good heart.
I really loved this story. I am looking forward to more from this series. Mr. Collins is a must-read author, lots of really moving moments and lots of love.

This is a intense addition to the series. Daniel comes across as submissive yet he is very aggressive when he is called on to act. Wes is a definite dominant. He is captain of the local firehouse. He runs everything with strong authority. When he saves Daniel from the fire flames of a different kind ignited. The two are so different and yet fit. The sex is really hot. The ability of both men to be somewhat flexible added to the possibilities. This is a strong story of a budding relationship. Both characters are likable. The story flow stays consistent. The ending is satisfying yet I felt I would still like to know more about them. Since some previous characters reappeared in this story hopefully these two will do so in the next stories.

Hawt!

Wes, the Captain of the local firehouse in the remote town of Hawke, Alaska comes to Daniel’s rescue and boom, sparks fly and not just from the fire. It’s almost an immediate attraction between these two. Not just hot but RED HAWT! I found myself yelling Portland! Say whaaaat? Read the book to find out, teehee.

Another winner from the king of romance. I love a book that makes me feel so good I’m fanning myself from the first page to the last and that’s what this book delivers. Plus an in depth description of the Alaskan wilderness with a side of moose sausage and bacon biscuits thrown in to tantalize my tastebuds had me chomping at the bit to beat a path to Hawke, Alaska to find Wes and Daniel. This book has it all!

Once again, I completely enjoyed the description of Alaska and what they may face up there. I particularly liked the "road trip" with foods from my childhood -- poutine indeed lol. But once again if you can suspend disbelief with insta-love, insta gay feelings then it is a pretty great read. Once I got past that in real life, most very masculine men would at least have doubts about sudden feelings for another man AND his friends were so super accepting as well (which having lived this...even in today's world is just a little rare) but the connection they had was wonderful to read and each got what they needed from the relationship. I do enjoy Jason's writing even if sometimes I had to go "hmmmm" lol.

🚒 Wes the Alaskan fireman fans the 🔥flames (of his passion) for Daniel 😯😉
March 3, 2019
Format: Kindle Edition
🌄🔥 As I've come to expect in a Jason Collins MM romance, this story is loaded with longing glances and 🔥🔥🔥fiery encounters. The power exchange scenes grew more inventive as Wes and Daniel got closer and the Alaskan flora and fauna were a great backdrop. I did, however, find it a bit of a slow read and I started to skim on occasion when Daniel's reminiscences meandered for pages and when the action flagged. Of the two novels published thus far in this series with an Alaskan setting, I preferred the first book.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

Daniel wanted to get away and go exploring and see how well he could handle himself while roughing it. Things didn't go so well when he nearly killed himself in a cabin fire but was luckily rescued by Wes. Wes wasn't sure what to make of Daniel at first until he really got to know him, and even then Daniel kept surprising him. Daniel was all sunshine and light to Wes' darkness and dominance. Daniel was always poking the bear and acting like a brat and Wes always rewarded him for his naughtiness. I loved how Wes looked at Daniel in a new light after he proved himself during the helicopter emergency.

A very hot sequel in the series!
Ok, so this book is insanely hot! I sort of needed a cigarette after reading some of the scenes.
Alaska is still at the forefront of the story, this time in an even more remote region, which means that the characters are alone most of the time, and of course being am aggressive dominant and a bratty submissive, they spend a lot of the time "working on their budding relationship".
I actually didn't feel the emotional bond until way into the book, or maybe I just didn't connect with these characters as well as I did with some of Collins' previous ones.
This being said, this is certainly a good book, entertaining and well written and deserves a 4-star rating!

Daniel is on vacation and his rented cabin catches on fire while he is sleeping. Wes lives nearby, smelled the smoke, and pulled Daniel out of the cabin. Wes takes him in, and Daniel ends up spending the rest of his vacation staying with Wes. They have great chemistry, and the spend a lot of time getting to know each other. The characters were complementary and really ended up growing together. I liked seeing Daniel let Wes take control but then also turn around and assert himself (with helping with the helicopters). They were a great couple with lots of hot moments.

Weston is very alpha. He wants to be in control, especially in the bedroom. Daniel compliments him completely. These two guys are ying and yang, balancing each other in every way. I liked that while Weston was dominant he never saw Daniel as less than or beneath him; he was his equal in every way. I was surprised at Wes's willingness to be the one to change things for Daniel. It was great to see the guys from the first book, Submission, Elliott and Caleb as they're living their HEA. I'm hoping to get my hands on book three soon.

Daniel and Wes are delightful MC's. They are so real and i enjoyed their interactions. I loved the Alaskan backdrop for the story. The writing flowed and i thought that that the story-line kept me engaged.

I enjoyed the connection and steam between these guys. i also enjoyed seeing both men show their competence and leadership when the time came for them to be taking care of business in their careers.

This is the second book in the Submission Series and i liked having a chance to see the MC's from book one as part of this story.

This is the second book in this series and it is going strong. I love the wilderness that is Alaska and the look at how different life in the wilderness is. Wes and Daniel are quite a wonderful couple. Daniel is the second pilot we've met and a friend of Caleb and Elliott from book one. It is really convenient that Wes is a fire chief and Daniel is a volunteer fire fighter because this book will heat up enough to be dangerous. I requested an advanced reader copy and am under no obligation to leave this review.

This book is a great read, well written and entertaining. Daniel is rescued by Wes, a firefighter, after catching the cabin he is staying in on fire. Wes is a dominant and he sees Daniel as someone he wants to explore. The interaction between Daniel and Wes is hot throughout the book. There is also some firefighting action in the book which adds to the storyline. There is a HEA but a lot happens before this comes about. This is a great M/M story and I would highly recommend it.

Man of dreams

This is the second book in Jason Collins' Submission series and it is just as good and HAWT as the first, Daniel who we met in the first book is saved from a fire by the fire captain Wes, only for the pair to set fire to the sheets.
I seriously enjoy Jason's writing but these two are most definitely my favourites as they fit together and their power exchange is a thing of beauty. This no angst book is the perfect fireside read.

Once Burned
By Jason Collins
Main Characters: Daniel and Wes
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.
4 out of 5 stars
Loved these two m/c's. Wes was the real alpha/dominant and Daniel was the feisty submissive. The authors description of Alaska makes you want to visit it. There was great chemistry, sex and wonderful dialogue between these two men. Great story and I look forward to more by Jason Collins.

Once Burned, Submission book two by Jason Collins. This is the second book in a great series with fantastic characters. This is a great story in the Alaskan wilderness. Loved the story. It lost me a couple of times when it got a little wordy, but I enjoyed the story very much. Definitely a must read book in a must read series!

Another great one for this series. Wes, a super hot alpha fireman, and Daniel, a pilot on vacation, set the pages on fire with their chemistry and their scenes together. Love watching them growing closer and Daniel's submission to Wes. The Alaska setting is spectacular. Looking forward to more from this series. Wes is an alpha through and through. His need to dominate and be in control is palpable. Daniel is funny, caring and a little bit of a disaster. The chemistry between the dominant fireman and submissive pilot is palpable. I’m enjoying this series.
