I was so excited to get a copy of this title when it came out. But sadly that excitement was short lived. This book suffers from the same thing a lot of indie and self pub books suffer from....bad editing. The book starts out with weird word choices and bad formatting. And it just doesn't get any better. It reminded me of an episode of Fallout Shelter to start with. With a girl being left alone in some kind of vault her mother leaves her there and now she's all alone. So this 13 year old who was left alone is now 18.

The story felt very choppy with leaning about how her mother disappeared and then another girl shows up all of sudden. I did like the idea of the monsters and yes if you have seen Bird Box and shows of its kind this is totally like those creatures in those movies.

The romance was very odd as very convenient. Parts this story reminded me of another one called Under the Never Sky. Which was a very good story. But where that one felt like it knew where it wanted to go and how to get there. This one felt like it had lost its map.

In the end I am glad that I had the opportunity to check this one out but sadly I think it needed a little more work to be a great story.

Red Genesis has all the elements of an excellent science fiction thriller. I was expecting a traditional structure, but Kailin Gow hit it out of the ball park with an unique narrative told from the view of girl who has never been out of the Shelter. There were so many twists which ended up in some major turns. No spoilers here. I was not expecting the ending. Can't wait to read the next books.

Red Genesis: By Kailin Gow
I really did enjoy Red Genesis by Kailin Gow. It does take a minute to get into the book; but once you are in, you are all in because you don't want to miss the happenings that are going on in the story pages. Evie a young child growing up on Mars and has been told that the monsters have taken over and that her father was killed by them several years ago. The technology that is brought from the old country and left on Mars is one when modified will continue to self sustain. Evie's mother leaves her to go find food to to sustain them as they are able to grow somethings on Mars but not all things. When Evie's mother leaves she leaves behind Mary. Mary keeps Evie company and becomes a best friend to Evie.
In the midst of wonder and the water line needing to be fixed Evie and Mary must leave their enclosure to repair the much-needed waterline. In the midst of their excavation and repair, they do run into the monsters and much more.
Red Genesis touches on the love and human kindness in the world, autism, and love that it incremental. I am anxiously awaiting the sequel to this book. I urge you to read this book. I give it a 4.5-star rating and I wasn't sold at first; the book is every bit worth your time to read.

Red Genesis by Kailin Gow entertains her readers with the concept of being the only survivor on a second earth and the care Evie must make to preserve and protect the last of the knowledge that lead them to this desolate place. This earth once green and plush is now barren with no oxygen left and now she must surface to fix her water supply. Will she be able to find the supplies she needs, fix her water pipes, and avoid the monsters her parents couldn't even evade?

Kailin Gow keeps her novel short and to the point, while building the suspense that's hidden above ground. Red Genesis is one of Kailin Gow's many novels, but she wrote this one for teens and young adults. Evie is just a teenager herself when she faces the fact she is all alone and needs to rely on herself. She's lonely, independent, and self motivated. The author puts her in a situation which forces her to fend for herself. Excellent short novel that causes one to reflect on their own responses given the same circumstances.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy for an honest and voluntary review

This is a fantastic and suspenseful story by Kailin Gow!! It really had me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was going to happen next. I really love the imaginative world that the author created. I could picture it vividly in my mind. It was really different in a refreshing way. I really liked the heroine, Evie, too ♥️ She’s a survivor!!
When Evie was 13 years old, her and her mother, had to leave the safety of their underground shelter for supplies. They live on a new Earth with no oxygen, and their water pipes are broken. Evie and her mother have to fix the water lines. They also have obstacles in their way, in the form of “monsters” that feed off of peoples fears. Evie’s mother disappears. Evie is able to survive on her own, by remembering her mother’s guidance. When she is 18 years old, Evie has to venture out again. Will she be able to find her mother and also survive against her fears.....

Red Genesis

The first 39% of the book was setting the scene and character building. The main character, Evie, is presumed to be the only human remaining on New Earth once her mother leaves. Evie is 18 and faces harsh realities of being on her own in a red environment. Her only companion is a Robot named Mary until she comes across another human.
The book has an interesting plot. It is based in science and "what if" questions. Once I figured out where Evie actually was, I started thinking like a teacher and all I've read with my class this year. The very end of the book offers STEM questions for discussion and literature questions for discussion. I could see this being used in middle to high school grades.
It is a good book once it gets going. I only questioned a few things but it didn't keep me from finishing. I would recommend this book.

Kind of confusing in some parts but still not a bad read!

I’m kind of torn on this book. I like the storyline but I was also somewhat confused by the references to monsters but not really having a physical description of the monsters. As the story goes on I realized it was more internal monsters than actual physical beings. Maybe others will catch on to that quicker than me. It’s an interesting story, I’m sure the younger generation will enjoy the “new world” the author has created. Even though the story line was confusing at times I did find myself caring about whether the characters survival. I will probably read the second book to see how it goes. I will decide then if I want to read the 3rd book or not. I probably will just to see what happens.

Okay so I am not a big reader on apocalyptic stories. This one is different for me. So we have new earth. What is new earth? That is a good question. It seems to be underground somewhere. We know that Evie and her mother are surviving in an underground home. Evie's mom educates her with what materials they have on hand. Then something happens and they have to go topside to make some fixes. Only to come across some monsters. Now this is weird. We don't know much about these creatures except that they killed just about every human. Then Evie has a robot friend to keep her company until she has to go topside again. Only this time around she learns of new things about where she is. What she is? It got really interesting at the end and leaves with a cliffy. Now I wonder what will happen.

I enjoyed this book from the moment that I picked it up. It moves along at a really great pace making for an easy read. You will love these characters and want to know more about them and you want to be there to help them overcome everything in their way. This book needs to be read, no doubt about it.

A good start

This is a story of Evie on New Earth, an eighteen year old who is all alone after her mom sets out years earlier to find more supplies and doesn't return. This is story of her survival along the way. I enjoyed the story. Please note that this is a cliffhanger.

Hi Everyone!

I know I am the co-author commenting on my own book, Red Genesis, here, but just wanted to let you know that Red Genesis is an allegory of "Genesis", which is a biblical reference.

It is also very positive, inspirational, and about hope.

I wrote this story because of the sadness and depression some of my friends and acquaintances like the fashion designer Kate Spade suffered and had committed suicide... I also wrote this because I wanted to spread the message of how love, friendship, family, and faith can help give strength to fight our fears.

Hopefully you would pick up a copy to read and enjoy it!
