I published a review of this book back in 2001, as I felt it was such a wonderful overview of the era. I read it was I was teaching history on this era at this stage, and it was published several years after I had completed my thesis. For someone who wants to get a good backgroudn in the ear of Stuart History, this book would be hard to beat. It does have some weaknesses, but its strengths definitely outweigh those. Very readable, with excellent maps and charts to display information in an easily understandable fashion.
