Rate this book
Professional poacher and hired harvester of rare and exotic ocean delicacies, Ig Hawkins only has one person on her mind. Her mother, who suffers with a rare and aggressive form of ALS. Soon, she's taken up by the Resistance, who offer her a cure to save her mother if she helps them extract samples from the Mother of the Sea. The Mother of Monsters. Lurking in the Devil's Trench (the deepest known trench in the Pacific Ocean), is Mother. Surrounding her are her aggressive offspring, like bees protecting their queen.

While Ig and her team fight to extract the samples they need to not only save Ig's mom, but humanity, nothing is certain. Madness crawls through the very fabric of reality. The Devil's Trench holds only darkness and foreboding...and madness, Ig discovers her mom's disease isn't by chance, but planned. Can Ig and her team extract the DNA samples from Mother before the offspring devour them? Can she save her own mom? In the heart of The Devil's Trench, only death rears its ugly head.

Not just your average sea monsters

This is a really great book with great characters and lots of monsters in the sea. It is so much more than just a basic man versus monster book. Ig is called to be a part of a team which are trying to get samples from the Mother deep in the ocean. In addition, this team will be trying to kill this Mother. But, Mother's children will be protecting her. I really liked this one.

This was an OK read, can’t say I recommend it. Spelling and grammer errors in areas so I don’t think it was even proofread beforehand. Seemed nonsensical at times, though I thought the dialogue and relationship between characters was good and the main character did grow on me. Though it felt a bit like a wild B rated movie at times.

A little sci fi a little horror, and touching and sad but hopeful story. Not your average deep sea horror. There was enough violence and gore to satisfy, some really interesting ideas of tech stuff and a basic human emotion and connections to make this a well rounded book. I really enjoyed it.

Lacked Something

Read this as a short quick read. While it was a quick read, I feel like this could have been done better. Is seemed jumpy and could have been fleshed out better. Not terrible, but not my favorite.

Honestly I expected more horror. There were a few plots happening and I just would’ve liked more toward the monsters. I have a lot of questions.

I am partial to the deep sea psychological horror vibe. Tw for animal abuse though, don't read this if you love dogs.... probably if you have a dog.
