I've always had an interest in skincare but this book grew my passion even more! Interesting to learn more about the skin, its layers and how it works before looking at products, routines and tips.

A comprehensive introduction to skincare explaining how nutrition, environmental factors, products and treatments can all affect / benefit the skin. I took a lot away from it and I'm glad I bought the hard copy as I will definitely refer back to it as I hone my routine.
However, I didn't like how all the products she recommends are expensive brands most of which she personally sells on her website - this suggests that you have to spend a fortune on your skin to get results and this is simply not the case. It would have been nice to see some lower price point items on the list or generic supplement suggestions rather than specific brands. At the very least she could explain why she doesn't recommend cheaper alternatives. Her own brand Skingredients didn't feature aside from the mitt (which she plugged relentlessly) so I'm assuming the book came first.
She constantly recommends seeking a professional consultation too (surprise surprise - guess who offers online professional consultations?!?) which again, if her book is doing its job shouldn't be necessary for the vast majority of people.
I also hated her made up terms - "hoomans", "skingredients" etc. I'm not a child. 🙄
Overall though I would recommend this book.

Earlier this year I read another skincare book after realising I needed to know more about if my skincare routines were helpful or hindering my skin. This book and the one I previously read are completely opposed to one another and I feel more obliged to go with the previous book as it wasn’t trying to flog the same brands to me constantly as though there was some sponsorship deal going on. Not to mention the whole ‘cut out all of sugar and caffeine and your skin problems will be solved’. Some of the differences between these two ‘expert’ books include:

- This book says you should always double cleanse, previous book said that you should never really double cleanse unless you have been wearing heavy makeup
- This book says you shouldn’t use exfoliates, previous book suggests exfoliating once or twice a week
- This book goes on about how masks are a brilliant way of applying product, previous book said they are important for relaxing and self-care but there is no evidence this helps products penetrate further into the skin

I guess draw your own conclusions, but this book felt patronising and I can’t help but question the content

This book was really interesting and gave fantastic tips and advice. Jennifer managed to explain the most trickiest of science terms in the most simplest form so that anyone could understand.

However I believe readers should be wary of some of the advice she gives. Jennifer isn't a trained doctor and while she is very open about this, a lot of the things she suggests ie. Supplements and skin conditions, should be checked with a doctor first due to the fact everyone reacts differently to things!

This book was a journey. It started with being super interesting to super overwhelming and frustrating to super helpful. It's a "pick what you like and leave the rest" book and Jennifer constantly says to seek professional advice and that nothing is set in stone which I appreciated. The normal person might not be able to afford the ideal skin care routine according to this book but one can make a choice of steps that work for oneself based on facts which is really great.

A good informative overview of skin health, the book would be far more convincing if the author was a dermatologist or at least co authored it with a dermatologist, it is only for the reason that I cannot give it a higher rating- I can’t fully trust all of the guidance. Otherwise, an enjoyable read!

I read this book like a dictionary. Its academic and not a pleasure read but it is absolutely fantastic. Whatever complaint you have to do with skin- its addressed here. Jennifer Rock's is a voice I trust in the beauty world. Well done to her for this treasure.

Three stars but then the writer's recurrent efforts to promote her brand stole one.

It's pretty much basic, a good read.

One of the best books on skincare for non-specialists on the market (if not the best)! Absolutely loved it! Well written, easy to understand and very educational!
