Unfortunately for me, I think this book would be much more useful as a real book and does not come across as handy as an ebook. As an ebook, it's a good pep talk to not feel guilty about lessening your load at Christmas. I thank Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Christmas, the most wonderful time of the year or the most annoying one? Wheather you are a big Christmas lover, best buddy of the Grinch or somewhere in the middle, Christmas is going to happen. And would it be great to survive the Christmas days without stress, anxiety and nerve-racking last minute shopping? Then you should read this book!
This book is great guidance to survive the Christmas madness. It offers pockets and planning tools and all the things you need, to organize the Christmas, you want and need. It teaches you, to not think about, what others expect from Christmas, moreover you will find out, what matters to you and your family. It helps you to organize everything around Christmas – expectations, decoration, gifts, food, budgeting, recipes- simply everything related. With 21 projects, the author guides us through all the aspects of Christmas. The index makes it easy to jump to the parts you are interested in, but you can easily read it in a row as well and come back later to parts. The book has space to put down your own lists, provides recipes and just provides the guidance to make out the best of Christmas season without much stress and clutter. Everything is spices up with funny, thoughtful and entertaining stories about the authors family and life. In some you will find yourself, others are just entertaining.
This book is for sure something you will grab every year to fill in more notes and memories of your own Christmas. The stress will stop and the joy of Christmas will come to your house, now that you have everything under control with this little Christmas planning bible.
This was a wonderful book full of Christmas projects, but not only that but a fresh look at surviving christmas. Christmas is one of those holidays that everyone turns into a huge affair, that only stresses them and everyone else close to them out. This book helps with keeping you do to earth and thinking clearly during this stressful holiday season. There are chapters on budgeting, planning and what to do without money (since people tend to spend too much). This was something I think everyone needs to read especially if Christmas is already stressing you out. #Christmasprojectplanner #Netgalley
I found this little book both helpful and charming - a breath of fresh (balsam!) air as I start to think about the holiday season. Highly recommended for all those ladies that feel like they could do Christmas so much better if they just had a game plan...THIS IS IT!
I received an advanced copy of this book through netgalley, but would definitely buy this one for future holiday reference. :)
If you're interested, I strongly advise a physical copy - there are a few lists/recipes/pockets that aren't as fun in ebook form.
I love Christmas! I want to decorate all the things, see all the shows, and wow my loved ones with all the delicacies. But one person can’t do it all. I end up driving my family crazy and exhausting myself in the process. Not the best way to enjoy the holiday!
This beautiful book reminds me to prioritize what’s important and focus on the joys of the season. With practical projects and endearing illustrations from the author’s own life, this Christmas Project Planner is a much-needed guide for a sane and happy Christmas.
I am the daughter of a Christmas Ninja, who effortlessly navigates presents, food, frivolities and manages to make every Christmas magical. I wanted to read this book to be able to host my own Christmases with more grace and less stress and whilst I did get some realistic help and a few points, most of the advice was to do less or rather only do the meaningful. The book was a good reminder that it’s not worth loosing sleep or your mind to live up to an unrealistic expectation, this feels more like a guide to the completely uninitiated than those who just want to elevate their current festivities. It is very much written for an American audience, and has numerous references to faith and bible verses which I felt a little lukewarm about. I am however inspired to start my Christmas list early, and perhaps I’ll say no to a little more this holiday season to make sure I am able to enjoy the things that really count.
I absolutely adore Kathi Lipp's books and this one is just as amazing!! Great author combined with favorite time of year...it's a Win win guide for Christmas! The book is absolutely beautiful in design. Front pocket, post-it guides and marker band, to save your place, not to mention the beautiful prints. Timeless book that can be used year after year.
Oh i am in love with this book! Christmas is one of my favorite times of year and what better way to plan for it! This book has everything you need for a magical Christmas.
I'm so glad I gave up Christmas. I have always thought it over the top and a secondary holiday, if that, for most Christians. I thought Easter was the big one, but not that I've ever seen or heard it. Anyway. Like I said, waaaay over the top. Kathi Lipp's got it right. Keep it simple, pare it down, no one cares if it's not prefect, I mean, what the heck does that MEAN anyway??!! One gift, reasonable priced, per person, a few treats in the stocking, make a decent meal, toss our some cookies and candy canes. No one needs to spend a years salary on junk which will be tossed aside before the first bill rolls in. Stop trying to impress everyone with your generosity and Christmassiness. No one really cares and it will all be forgotten by the next day or week. Her book has great ideas in it for having a happy, reasonably stress free holiday. Worth a good read! I recevied a Kindle arc from Netgalley in exchange for a fair review.
Such a helpful book! As a mom of a little boy, Christmas seems to sneak up on me each year. This planner has easy to-dos broken out by day and into more manageable steps. The author shares lots of great ideas on getting things done in smarter ways, and gives permission more than once to just keep the parts of the holiday that are most important to your individual family. I would recommend the print version over an ebook, because there are spaces to write in and gather information. The point of this book is to carry forward with some of the work already done for future years to make it easier on you. The layout is cute, and it is easy to read. I received an ebook ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I've been honored to lead this launch. This is the book I've needed for decades -- back when I was rocking back and forth in a corner, hoping to avoid the holidays. This is a practical action plan based on your values -- not the expectations of others. If like me, you know that Christmas falls on Dec. 25 every year and yet it still catches you by surprise, I think you'll appreciate Kathi's super-simple steps.
Kathi is an expert at decluttering and organizing, so who better to help streamline Christmas? I love Christmas but can get stressed because I want it to be so special each year. I love Kathi’s signature humor and simple, practical steps to get organized so I can plan for time to celebrate the things that are truly important to me in the Christmas season. One of the sections I enjoyed the most is how to decorate for all five senses. I'm looking forward to doing that this year!
Looking forward to doing the projects in this book. As a MOPS volunteer I have followed Kathi and read many of her books. I'm so excited she came out with a Christmas planner! I stress myself out every year and looking forward to having a stress free season!
I love this planner. I love the simplicity of it. The daily projects are easy to complete and let’s you truly preplan so that Christmas is not so stressful. I love the dividers, pockets, and places to use sticky notes. I will use this planner for years to come.
The Christmas Project Planner by Kathi Lipp is the perfect book for you if you are looking to make this Christmas special without loosing your sanity. This book is written with absolutely no judgement. It's not the type of planner that you need to make the perfect, over the top Victorian style Christmas spectacle. This is a honest take on how you, as a normal human being with a super busy life, CAN organize the holidays.
21 Projects in The Christmas Project Planner This book contains 21 projects and they range from expected topics such as Creating a Christmas Budget and Get the Stockings Ready. It also has some new and down to earth projects as well; Ho! Ho! Ho! To the Post Office You Go!, Gather Your Elf Supplies and Help Someone Special Get into the Holiday Spirit.
There is a special paragraph in the front of the book that helps you to get real about using a planner. She explains that whether you get this book far ahead of the holiday season, or you are receiving it sometime in December she promises us that we will make it through. Deep breath, that is exactly what I wanted to hear! Even more heart warming, she gives us permission to skip some of the projects and admits that even though she wrote the book she does not do all the projects every year! Now this is someone I can respect and get behind.
You are going to have FUN! If you have been approaching the holidays with a bit of dread, and the phrase "It just won't be Christmas without..." is echoing in your head, this planner will have you thinking differently in no time. When was the last time you stopped to think about the 5 senses and the holidays. Enjoy a list of ways that you can bring out the joys of Christmas through; sight, sound, taste, touch and smell. This will get you back into the simple parts of the holiday and enjoying the smell of the live Christmas Tree, and being inspired to cut off a few branches to make a table decoration to have that smell flow further into the house. Create a playlist of your favorite Christmas songs including classics as well as new songs coming out this year. Have fun making this Christmas about the little things instead of making it a competition with family and neighbors.
The author is also honest with her stories about past Christmas issues that will have you laughing out loud. Project 14 is The Chew Has Nothing On You and she tells the story of "The Christmas Dinner That Never Got Eaten". When guests started asking what they could bring to the dinner and she suggested hors d'oeurves and appetizers to a number of the guests. She also prepared artichoke dip and a few cheese-and-cracker plates because she knew that people would want to snack while visiting and waiting for the dinner to be served. In reality, the snacks filled all the guest up and when dinner was actually served, no body was hungry. Then she offers us tips on how we can avoid this sort of meal issue.
Everything you need to plan the Christmas of your wishes The Christmas Project Planner is full of tips, trick, recipes, gift suggestions, supply lists and so much more and you will be using this book year after year. In fact she gives you ideas on making an box that you can use year after year and build on your supplies that worked the previous year. Here is to having your dream Christmas and having the time and the energy to enjoy it!
This Christmas Planner helped me to do all things that I like to accomplish during the holiday season. It helped me to plan ahead an make realistic schedules. Kathi Lipp advises to ask my family what is most important to them during the holidays and that was a huge game changer knowing each of my kids and my husband had a special Christmas. I am usually up to my ears directing a Christmas Play and this really helped me to plan ahead and keep my personal Christmas on schedule amidst all extra responsibilities.
What a fun approach to the holiday season!!! Start early on your own, or team up with friends or a group to spread holiday tasks out long before the season begins!!! Lots of great ideas to adapt and inspire...it's a nifty little book to help you feel more control and less chaos at the most wonderful (and busiest) time of the year! ;-)
I am definitely a person who enjoys the holidays. I love that time between Thanksgiving and New Year's. When I think back on the first Thanksgiving meal that I prepared myself for my husband and me, I remember how stressful it was to try to pull together the perfect meal while working and without much help. Over the years I developed a plan (and ditched the husband) with particular timing for certain things, and it did make it so much easier. Even if I would still collapse into a heap at the end of the big days. This book is aimed at helping you tame the overwhelm that the Christmas season can be so that you can create the holiday that will mean the most for you, your family, and your friends. This is a book that is quite enjoyable to read as well as act upon. The author comes across as very caring and understanding. She knows exactly where you're at with all the holiday hubbub and sincerely wants to help you create a special day or season while still maintaining your sanity.
The book has 21 projects. Even the author admits she doesn't do all of them every year. But these projects are the things that you would typically do during the holiday season anyway, like trying to sort out which recipes you might use for the big days and figuring out your Christmas cards. But what I really appreciated was her guiding principles for the Christmas season (and which you do see echoed throughout the rest of the book): Namely, this should be about creating the holiday that you and others in your life want, and you shouldn't be afraid to ask for help. Just because you are the parent or the head of the household doesn't mean it all has to be your responsibility for the big days. The author states quite firmly that you shouldn't just do “holiday” things because they are expected; you should do them because you want to, and they will bring you and others the joy that is meant to be a part of the season. I just love that.
The projects are pretty straightforward, and she also has mini essays that go along with each project as well, where she continually urges you to do what is best for you and your family and to ask for help. Just because you have a tradition doesn't mean you have to follow it if thinking about or doing it doesn't bring you happiness. If you've ever felt overwhelmed by the holidays and need kind advice, as well as practical plans, this book may be your ticket for a better holiday season.
I received a free digital copy of this, but that did not affect my review.
The Christmas Project Planner by Kathi Lipp is perfect for families at Christmas time. Ms Lipp gets right for the heart of the matter and explains how to determine what is most important to your family, focus on those things, and create a Christmas all will enjoy as a result. This book is a gem and I highly recommend it. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
I found The Christmas Project Planner: Super Simple Steps to Organize the Holidays to be quite useful through the season. I plan to keep it handy for every Christmas season in the future. Five stars.
If you're like me, December can get so busy with shopping, baking, events, that it's hard to focus on what Christmas is really about. So last year, I decided to try to get my shopping done before December and I put off my Christmas letter until after Christmas. It was so nice to be less busy in December that I decided to expand on that this year. This book has 21 projects that break down all the moving pieces of Christmas prep. It is very practical, which I love. I didn't feel there was anything earth-shatteringly new. However, I did find some good tips that I want to implement. The author is quick to say that not all projects will apply and gives you the freedom to pick and choose what you will find most helpful.
One insight I really appreciated was to ask my family members what they really love about Christmas....whether that be a food, a tradition, an event. Things we did when my kids were young aren't as meaningful now so it was good to hear their thoughts. Now we can focus on what we most enjoy about Christmas and let some other things slide.
Another section I enjoyed talked about stocking stuffers. She had ideas on how to collect little things year round and know exactly what you have for each person at a glance. She included a list of great stocking stuffers that spurred my own thoughts.
I find books like this helpful and motivational. It made me excited to break out my Christmas music and start planning. Thank you to Harvest House for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I really liked the approach the author took in this book. I loved the language, it was witty, but also real. She made her points without going into excessive details. Who has time for that when you're in a mad Christmas rush? Exactly, she nailed it.
Christmas is the most stressful and overwhelming sessions that seems to consume us where we forget to even have fun at times. Ms. Lipp project planning strategy helps simplify and make it less painful. I have owned many Christmas planners over the years, but they were so detailed it became overwhelming and i would just give up. What sets this apart from other planners is the simplicity of things. Ms Lipp gives you permission to not be perfect and how to find perfection and happiness in what you do with the simplest methods. I love the idea of a Christmas station and some of her "stitch in time, saves nine" tips. But my favourite are all the decluttering Christmas tips.
The best way to describe this project planner is that it just simplifies the holidays for you. You can apply these methods to other areas of your life as well. Although there are "21" days of tasks, I feel that some of them are so simplified , that even if you started part way through December you can still achieve stress free planning. This planner if definitely going into my Christmas file. I will also be checking out her other books.
The only thing i would change/add is a Cliff's notes calendar of what to do each of the 21 days.
Thank you to Harvest House Publishing and Netgalley for the advance reading copy in exchange for an honest review.
Over the years, I have become so disorganized. I can’t figure out how, because I used to be super organized, but I have, so a book like this one is always on my radar.
The Christmas Project Planner is a good book for anyone who is somewhat disorganized about Christmas. I did feel the book was pretty general and basic about Christmas organization, but it does give you a push to become better prepared for Christmas starting in November or even earlier.
As someone who doesn’t have large groups of people visiting me for the holidays, this book really didn’t help me that much. A lot of what was covered was for someone dealing with large gatherings, long Christmas card lists, and lots of Christmas presents. I’m actually happy that isn’t me. But, I did get a few tips and tricks out of it.
The author made me chuckle a few times too, reliving her own Christmas experiences. I especially laughed at her recollection of asking for Trapper Keepers over Keds and a Madonna tape one year. I’m pretty sure I was the kid asking for the Trapper Keeper, Keds, and Madonna tape!
Overall, it was a quick and fun read. And while I did enjoy it, this self-help book wasn’t written for me, so I’m giving it 3-1/2 out of 5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley for sending me an uncorrected proof in exchange for my honest review!
I am so glad this book has been released! As a frazzled mom of 4, the holidays are not exactly what I would describe relaxing. This book has a step by step method and plan for busy families to not only organize and maintain Christmas traditions, routines, lists, and decorations, but has the goal for you to embrace and enjoy the holidays! Are you an Elf or Grinch? You get to choose!
Project Headings include Pick your Christmas Card Picture, Creating a Christmas Budget, Help Someone Special Get into the Holiday Spirit, Get your Recipes Together, Décor Day and more.
Some of the great content includes the section, "Do I Love You Enough to Actually go to The Post Office?" include gift ideas that are mailable and easy for out of town friends/relatives. She includes tips on stalking friends/family on social media to get gift and charity ideas for their gifts. Great info! You need this book!
Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
If you are a bit disorganised about Christmas and don't mind a book which is geared for the American market then this title might be for you.
As an annual celebration you would think everyone involved would be super organised about every little Christmas thing clearly however, that's not the case. This book gives you a nudge in the right direction to be at least a bit more prepared, especially if you have hordes descending on you and sometimes that is all that's needed to begin a more relaxed way of dealing with what can be a very stressful time.
I enjoyed reading about the author's own experiences of planning for the festive season and although it's a bit daft felt quite chuffed that I already do some of the things mentioned!
I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review and would recommend it to anyone who wants to be on top of Christmas but needs a little assistance to get there.
If you have a habit of trying to do it all for Christmas and ending up a stressed-out mess, please do yourself a favor and grab a copy of this book. I've heard this author share her Christmas organizational ideas on talk shows and I am thrilled to have her best ideas gathered together in one reference. Kathi urges and gives us permission to choose to keep the most meaningful parts of our seasonal celebrations, delegate or outsource where possible, and purge the "traditions" that have lost their value to our families. She includes great advice about organizing your Christmas necessities so they are easily accessed when you need them. I recommend this without reservation!! I joyfully requested and voluntarily read an advance review copy provided by the publisher via Netgalley and I offer my honest opinion in response.
“Some humor, some highlights and some truth.” That’s the way Kathi Lipp likes her Christmas cards, and that’s the way she has written The Christmas Project Planner. It takes the biggest event on the calendar and breaks it into manageable tasks, keeping the fun, losing the burden and accomplishing what is real and most important to you about Christmas. It is refreshing and written in Kathi’s trademark style of grace, wit and practicality. Best of all, this is a living book! Just as no two years are alike, no two Christmases are, either. This planner is written to be as flexible year-to-year as you need it to be, staying on track each holiday season with your personal Christmas mission statement… love that. Just in the “Nick” of time for 2019, The Christmas Project Planner is sure to be a valued resource for years to come.
I stress out at Christmas, in fact I stress out at Thanksgiving too. When I was introduced to this book I was skeptical of another "paper planner". I am obsessed with journal type paper planners, however, after a few months I just start stressing and stop using them. This planner is so wonderfully different because it engages you with projects. There are calendars to plot out, lists for gifts, and holiday dinner menus, and many tips. There are even pockets in the front and the back for receipts and little notes. Kathi Lipp and her husband Rodger even include a few of their favorite recipes. The thought of planning out the next two months seemed like a daunting task until I found this Christmas Project Planner with easy guided projects. I now feel like this might be a stress free holiday season! I can't wait until Halloween is over and really start working on the projects.
I LOVE this planner! It’s absolutely beautiful, from the front cover to back (which both have pockets by the way, perfect!) Perfect size to carry with me when shopping and full of projects and tools to help you plan and have the Christmas that is meaningful to you and your family. No pressure to do everything, just what matter most for you allowing you to relax and enjoy the season too. I adore Kathi's writing style, I feel like I am sitting down for tea with an old friend whenever I read her books. This planner is also reusable from year to year allowing you to reflect back and see what worked and what may need some more tweaking. This little book is going to help make my life so much easier this year!
