2 sorely disappointed stars

Ugh, this book is a mess I so don't want to wade into.

But since I did waste a Saturday on this, I'll put my two cents in. 65% into the book, if the characters that are to fall in love don't show even the inkling of attraction, then you already gone done wrong. Then the book did exactly what I predicted it would: they fell in love in 8% and spent the rest dealing with some shitty last moment plot twist that the author probably came up with before her morning coffee.

And by dealing I mean, Natalie, our lovely little protagonist no. 1, left Aidan, our lovely not-so-little protagonist no. 2, because his ex-casual-fuck-buddy ended up pregnant with a child that may or may not be his. If there was a chance for this book to have some salvation, it lost every grace after Natalie did the bitch move when Aidan needed her the most, after he'd been there for her for every step of her life. I understand why she fell in love with him- he was really worth it. But why did he fall in love with her? The world may never know.

You think I'm being harsh about this? You need to remember, I did waste a Saturday on this book. A SATURDAY!!

***Actual rating: 4.5/5 Love-Defining Stars***

”Sometimes I wonder…why not us, Aiden?”

Good on Paper was the first Jennifer Millikin’s book I’ve read and I absolutely LOVED the story. Natalie and Aiden had been best friends since high school but that was also the only thing they were. Throughout the following decade, they had never been more than friends. Natalie was a helpless romantic, always having faith in the concept of true love; little did she know that she’d miserably fail her first marriage with college sweetheart, Henry, leaving her heartbroken and depressed.
I love romance. The angst, the desire, the tension, and at the bottom of it all, the one feeling that connects us all. Love. We all want it, we all need it. Love ignites passion and causes wars. It instills fear in the bravest of us, and the threat of its removal brings the strongest to their knees.

On the contrary, Aiden was all against love, romantic relationship, and such; he didn’t believe in love, nor did he ever want to develop something like that with anyone else. All he truly enjoyed was casual sex with girls from dating apps. I initially thought this simple fact about Aiden’s sexual preference would upset me or even disgust me; however, much to my astonishment, he kind of grew on me gradually with everything he’d said and done for Natalie.
”…You were drunk, vulnerable, and a line in your friendship was already starting to resemble a watercolor.”

Aside from Aiden and Natalie, my second favorite characters were definitely their wise friends, Savannah in particular. She was by far the smartest role I’d ever seen in a contemporary romance novel and she was this super duper observant friend whom I thought both Aiden and Natalie should consider themselves lucky for having.

Needless to say, Aiden and Natalie had been denying the chemistry between them this entire time they’d been “just friends.” Thanks to Savannah, her honestly enlightening opinion was so on point that Aiden and Natalie started to rethink about the essence of their relationship friendship.
I see not only my best friend, but the man who has stayed by my side while I’ve loved and lost, made hard rights and easy wrongs. I cannot risk him either.

What made this book special was the subtle change in Aiden and Natalie’s platonic friendship, which later turned into something more than swoon-worthy romance. I really loved that even though they weren’t officially “dating,” that was exactly what both of them had been doing pretty much on a daily basis. They dined out together, chatted with friends they had in common, and hung out like good ol’ times, as if they’d been doing these the whole time.

More meaningfully, Aiden even watched ugly-cry movies he absolutely hated just to keep Natalie company when she was feeling low. I mean, seriously, if this weren’t what a sweet, lovely, thoughtful boyfriend would do for his beloved girlfriend, then I don’t know what is. After that unforgettable night in the hotel at their friends’ wedding, things were finally heating up for them. I was speechlessly touched to learn that Aiden did treat Nat differently, once again proving the undying love he’d always had for her deep down.

Speaking of major plot twist, oh god, let me tell you, the one in this book almost gave me a heart attack. No joke, if you were with me when I read that part, you’d practically hear my heart shattering into pieces like broken glass. I could totally understand the distant feeling Nat experienced at that moment because of the author’s painfully vivid depiction of such a gut-wrenching revelation.
Sometimes, the very best in life is what’s taking place in the background while we are busy focusing on what we think is right for us.

To my relief, there was a satisfying happy ending to Aiden and Nat’s story. I couldn’t appreciate more of that purely joyful outcome by the end of the book, leaving everything peaceful, powerful, and lingering.

Last but not least, I would undoubtedly HIGHLY RECOMMEND Good on Paper to everyone. Whether contemporary romance is your cup of tea or not, I’m sure you’ll adore Aiden and Nat’s story as much as I do! Jennifer Millikin is definitely one of my most admired authors from now on so I will certainly check out all of her previous works and future books! Anyway, please don’t hesitate to give Jennifer’s books a shot! You can thank me later. *wink*

***Huge thanks to InkSlinger and the author for sending me an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.***

First reaction after finishing the story:

OMG. I haven't read anything so heartbreakingly beautiful in a long time and I'm surprised this book turns out much better than I initially expected! Jennifer Millikin has just become one of my most admired authors and I surely will check out all of her books soon.

Highly recommend Good on Paper and due to some mildly steamy make out scenes and strong language, I think it's more proper to say this book is suitable for upper YA readers.

I didn’t love this one as much as Here For The Cake, but it was still a fun read. I really liked the overall plot line, but the individual characters weren’t as great, especially the MMC. And I hated the third act break-up/angsty plot point that was added.

“How did Aidan look at me?”
“Like your breath was more important than his own.”

Friends to lovers is a favorite trope of mine, and when I read the description for Good on Paper, I knew I had to check it out. I was so pleased to find a solid story and relatable characters. Aiden and Natalie have been best friends since high school and know everything there is to know about each other. Well, almost everything. They've been by each other's side throughout all the highs and lows, including Natalie's recent divorce. That's about the time they each start to see one another in a different light.

This was my first Jennifer Millikin book, and I adored it. The writing was solid, and I really loved the dialogue between Aiden and Natalie. They reminded me of the banter I share with my own best friend. Good on Paper had a beautiful slow burn building throughout the book. You felt every look and every graze. I had the most delicious flutters watching Aiden and Natalie realize what was growing between them. The path to their happy ending was not without a few bumps and bruises, but the reward waiting on the other side was something worth fighting for.

Aidan and Natalie have been best friends their whole lives. They've been there for each other through everything, and that everything includes her new divorce. Then one night, the line separating friendship and more is crossed. But it isn't necessarily the start of something great because Aidan doesn't believe in love and he's got a huge secret. Can best friends truly morph into more and make it work?

Hm I was torn on this one. On one hand, I enjoyed that this wasn't all fairy tales and prince charmings, but on the flip side, I kinda wanted a bit more of the romance feel. The oh so convenient twist, or obstacle I guess is more accurate, that tears them apart was a really frustrating device used. I wish the author had used anything but that to keep them apart. It just didn't feel realistic or right. But, this is well written and I liked both Aidan and Natalie so 3 stars seems fair.

Good on Paper is a standalone, friends to lovers romance by Jennifer Millikin.
Meet Natalie Shay. She's a 28 year old woman who likes to plan out her life. Married to her college sweetheart - check; divorced and trying to move on alone - umm not so much.
Aidan Costa is a single guy, works as teacher in NYC, has two roommates annnd is Natalie's best friend since forever.
Both have feelings for each other, but never acted on it. But now could be their time. Only he keeps a secret from Natalie that threatens to destroy their fragile love.
Natalie is a heroine whom I wished to get a second chance at love and a HEA. Only my first choice wouldn't be a hero like Aidan. He's too flighty, doesn't care much about consequences, I will not spoiler here, only so much, he was not my favorite person at times and I wished he had better selfcontrol. But the heart wants what the heart wants, and Natalie wants Aidan.
All in all, Good on Paper is a captivating read, excellent written and beautifully thought out and told. I liked the slow burn and give 4,5 stars.

Good On Paper is an enjoyable friends to lovers romance with just enough angst to keep you hooked for how their story plays out. Best friends since high school, Aidan and Natalie have seen each other through all of their big life moments and through it all have been there for each other. When life hits them both with some big changes their story really gets going.

This was the first read by this author for me and I wasn’t sure what to expect. The writing style was one that was easy to follow along with and keep me engaged. There were moments where the characters were hard for me to connect to but I not so much where I didn’t want to see where their story led to. I don’t want to give to much away but for the most part it was enjoyable. I would read something from her again. (3.5 stars)

This is a new to me author and I'm so glad I found her! Good on Paper is just the book I needed to read right now, it filled my gooey center up with all the love. Aiden Costa and Natalie Maxwell are best friends from high school until young adulthood where the story takes place. I wish I had an Aiden. I laughed my head off at the prolog which sets up the beginning of their friendship. Being in the head of a normal teenaged boy with a crush on the popular girl is priceless!

This slow burn is on purpose and not on purpose, they have what incredibly bad timing working against them often. People come and go around them and create scars and obstacles. This story is lovely and full of unexpected turns and a few of big surprises. It's cleverly crafted and flows so smoothly that I'm primed for more books by Millikin.

This was a pretty good read. Natalie and Aidan are friends. They have been for a long time at this point in the book. Natalie just got divorced and she is having a hard time. It's not something she was expecting to happen. She starts to have feelings for Aidan. However, he has a problem with commitment. Of course there is some drama but in the end it all works out.

“I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.”

Summary:
Good On Paper pens out a love story between best friends, a divorcee and a man with commitment issues haunted by his past. I like the plot so far. The characters have been introduced properly and significantly with a backdrop to their past issues, a reflection of their feelings.

My Review: I found this book lacking lot of elements including Chemistry between the leads, proper story line, emotions and whatsoever a frenzy of emotions spread wide. It didn't deliver those toe curling chills I was looking for. The story seemed rush. While reading a book, there has to be a connection between the reader & characters involved, in our case, it significantly lacked.

Good On Paper is my first novel read from author Jennifer. I won't say I'm disappointed after reading this book but I'm surely hoping for more deliverance by this author. She's talented as is reflected by her writing technique. A little push and we're good to go.

Checklist:
Plot : ★★★
Chemistry : ★
Writing Technique : ★★★
Steamy/Sex Scenes : ★
Connectivity With Reader : ★
Worth Your Time? : No.

Of all the books of Jennifer Millikin that I've read, this is probably the lightest. I've read two other books of the author which squeezed my heart dry. This one, started out sad but there were a lot of funny and sweet moments along the way. And true enough, Aidan is the epitome of a male best friend. He would do anything for Nat. Everything. I ended up wishing Aidan were mine.

Natalie. I never felt sorry for her divorcing her husband. It's a relief that finally she's free of the situation that's slowly killing her. I think what broke her heart most was the fact that she chose the wrong person. A person who's only good for the time being but not for the long haul. She was blinded by the physical and the superficial qualities of Henry that she never actually took a deep examination of what she really needs. She was too hang up on not ending up like her parents that she forgot to see what's really important. That love is beyond the physical. It encompasses beyond what could be seen and touched. That love is far beyond physical chemistry or sexual compatibility. It's so much more. Love should be felt to the farthest nerve endings and to the deepest marrow of our bones. It should be able to transcend all the physical, emotional and mental barriers. If you really love the person, you embrace all of him/her, including all the baggage and what else.

Having a best friend is like having one soul in two bodies. That's why it's no wonder that a lot of best friends end up with each other. It's inevitable. It's like the most natural thing. The same thing with Nat and Aidan. No matter how they try to ignore their feelings for each other, it's going to manifest and takeover. And they were powerless to stop it.

Aidan. When he said that he doesn't believe in love, I didn't believe him. I know deep down that he still does. He was just waiting for it to finally happen to him. He was waiting for someone or Nat to prove him wrong. To prove him that you don't choose love, it chooses you. That's why you have to do even the impossible and the improbable just to heed it. And that's exactly what happened to both of them. More so with Aidan because he was so confused what to do about his feelings. He was in denial that he's capable of loving nor a love like he feels for Nat is possible.

What I really love about the story is Aidan being the absolute example of a male best friend. He's always there for Nat. He knows Nat completely. He knows how Nat's mind works. He knows what could make Nat feel better and he's also honest when Nat needs a doze of reality. Their relationship or friendship should be everyone's relationship goal.

On the flip side, I think Aidan's idea of love is a bit simplistic which I also get. To Aidan, love should be two-way. It shouldn't make one sacrifice for the other. There should be no compromise. It should be win-win, like one of the 7 Habits by Stephen Covey says. Like what his mom said, "Because you love the person, you would do anything to make him happy. " But then again, at what expense? I think this is the part which Aidan did not get and why lie? To him, love shouldn't be complicated. But in reality, it's not always that simple.

With that said, I was so happy and relieved that these two finally realized what they're missing and what they badly need - each other. Not just as best friends but partners for life. So, though I was expecting to have my heart broken and cry buckets, which did not happen, I still had a good time reading this. Like I've said, I was psyched to breakdown and then be put back up because that's usually how Jennifer Millikin's stories are like. But still, this is a really good story. It's a feel good story. A deviation from her usual but still very good. I just probably needed a good cry so I was hoping this one will make me. But no tears were shed but I'm still a happy camper.

I give this 4/5 reams of paper. The lesson learned from this story is be wary of those people who appear perfect or good in paper, because that's just they are - good only in paper. When it comes to scrutiny and going beyond, they won't pass. No matter how perfect they look on the outside but if the inside is hollow, there's never going to be anything you can do to fill that or improve what's beyond repair.

I had a hard time deciding what quote to put here. I have highlighted a lot as there were so many nuggets of wisdom here. If I could put them all in here, I would. But these are the ones that really really speak to me:

What I do know is every single person has a tapestry. And every tapestry looks different. Some tapestries will have four or even five marriages. Some will only have one, or none. Who's to say which one is better? Who's to say that either one of them is bad?

Sometimes, the very best in life is what's taking place in the background while we are busy focusing on what we think is right for us.

Aidan Costa was the son of a romance novelist; Natalie Maxwell was the daughter of a preacher. Two teens that carry mythological expectations because of their parents (a romance novelists son would be the most romantic boyfriend and a preacher’s daughter would be the good girl,) but nothing is like it seems.

Years later, newly divorced Natalie is still reeling from the demise of her marriage, but, fortunately, she still had Aidan’s friendship. The two still share their witty banter, comforting gestures, and hearty laughter. They worked, but, at the same time, they didn’t work (her being a hopeless romantic with reticence on sex; and him not believing in love and just having fun with strings of one-night stands.)

“On every surface, in ways only eyes can see, they looked like a match made in heaven. They fit together. But underneath, geometry doesn’t matter. Below the surface is where it gets messy.” (17) Just because it seems perfect, it doesn’t mean it is.

“When all you can see are external characteristics, you can begin to match them up like puzzle pieces.” (94)

The problem with Natalie was that she was too focused on the Happily Ever After, on that untarnished, everlasting love. But Aidan knew that it wasn’t reality. He needed to help her realize that to get her to write her book and move on with her life.

I liked the authenticity of it. Life is not a fairy tale with princes on clean, white horses. Life has stale pumpkins with dirty rats. Aiden is simple and honest, which is what I liked most about him. He’s there for Natalie, but he doesn’t handle her with kid gloves. Like him, I don’t believe in this nauseatingly perfect HEA love (to be quite honest, I don’t really believe in marriage either.) The notion of a “romantic love” is definitely a heavy issue, one that regresses past trauma in both characters. I certainly don’t get sappy over this romantic love, but what endeared me most was the foundation of friendship between Aidan and Natalie.

The relationship between the two characters is thoughtful, genuine, and achingly raw. Why not them indeed?

Well-written and full of emotion, story is a depiction that true love is not “a tidy, romantic experience to come in a cute box with the pale , pink , silk ribbon wrapped around it.” (18) It engages the reader and entices to look beyond what’s “good on paper,” to get past the “pretty” and “perfect,” and see that everything doesn’t have to fit. The author certainly knows how to keep the reader hooked.

A perfectly imperfect novel!

Good on Paper is the first novel I've read by Jennifer Millikin. I'm always a bit nervous when I read a new author, as I'm never certain I'll connect with the author's style or story. From the outset of her novel, I knew I'd connect with Millikin. Good on Paper is a friends-to-lovers tale. It follows the story of Aidan and Natalie, two people who meet in high school and become best friends. From the outset, Aidan is attracted to Natalie; however, he makes a decision early in life to forgo relationships. As such, he makes the decision to become everything to Natalie, only as a best friend. When they go to college, Natalie meets her future husband, thinking he is the "perfect" match for her. Unfortunately, this turns out to be the opposite. While nursing a broken heart over the ending of her marriage (not that she's sad about ending it with her ex, it's the end of a dream instead), Natalie and Aidan start to realize their friendship is something more. Unfortunately, the rules that Aidan has laid out complicate anything further. Can Aidan and Natalie become something more than friends?

I think the thing I loved the most about this story is the angst of Natalie and Aidan's friendship. From the outside observer, it's clear that Natalie and Aidan are "meant for each other." Aidan is Natalie's rock. He defends her, cares for her, and becomes her shoulder to cry on. Similarly, Natalie is Aidan's peace. She brings him solace in a way that no other woman can. Unfortunately, for most of the story, these two cannot see their bond, their unending love for each other. It can be maddening for the reader; however, it ends up being the fruit of this book. While I became frustrated with these two, I never wanted to stop reading this book (which can happen with a story like this one). Instead, I wanted to get to the end to see if these two will find their HEA.

There are other interesting aspects of this book. I would love to share them, but then I'd be giving away Aidan's secret. No one likes a book spoiler.

If you have never read Jennifer Millikin, this is a great place to start. I know it helped me find a new author, and I'm looking forward to reading other books by her. Good on Paper is a GREAT read.

Two best friends, Natalie and Aidan, who have been there for each other through thick and thin, find themselves where they never thought they would, but then it comes crashing down. Best friends since high school, Nat has seen Aidan go from woman to woman, never committing to any of them. Aidan has seen Nat marry her college sweetheart and her divorce from the same guy. No matter what he is doing, or who he is with, he will drop everything to help her.
When she gets drunk one night and asks "Why not us", the lines start blurring. His friends have the nickname Best for her, because she is the best woman he has ever brought into their house. He deep down wants to commit to someone, but a secret he has kept his whole life, keeps him from doing it, because he doesn't believe in love. Natalie has the exact opposite outlook, because she had a broken home growing up, so she wants the love she reads about in books.
Once she asks the question, he starts thinking differently and so does she. But, they are both terrified of losing their friendship. I liked how the realization that they both wanted more was slow. In a lot of books, once they realize it they act on it, but in Good on Paper, they have a few near misses, a secret revealed, and nervous feelings that they don't know how to work out of their system getting in the way.
When one of his past relationships comes back to haunt him, he knows that what he and Nat started to build will be over, but he doesn't shy away from the truth. Even though she did what she thought was best and bowed out, I was disappointed, because I felt they could have been there for each other. He was always there to support her (through her wedding and divorce), and she seemed to not support him by bowing out. How the truth came out and their reactions to it were wonderful. In the end, even though he didn't believe he was romantic, Aidan had me swooning.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest, voluntary review.

Natalie wants a full on fairy tale for her life, Aidan doesn’t do love. Together they are the perfect mismatched pair. Friends since childhood, they’ve seen each other through many ups and downs in life. Natalie just signed divorce papers with her college sweetheart, one of Aidan’s old roommates, and now she must move on with her sad little life. She enjoys writing and keeps sending manuscripts out into the world only to have her heart broken each time she gets rejected.

Aidan is fine with his random hookups and having his bff Natalie by his side. Nothing else needs to change in his life as far as he is concerned, until it does. One random moment with Natalie asking “why not us” has him wondering if everything he knows as normal is anything but.

Natalie and Aidan move slowly into a new territory, rocked by more outside influences than can be helpful. Put a family secret into play and it gets even more interesting. Final thorn comes in the form of an ex with a secret. Can they get past all these obstacles to find true happiness with their best friend?

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy, no expectations were expected and all opinions expressed are my own. This was a pretty good story for me though it did drag in some spots. I think more depth into the family secret would have been nice, it seemed to just go away without any kind of in depth reflection. Natalie and Aidan stayed pretty friends only for the majority of the book then it moved really quickly into past friends zone. I think maybe more angst would have been seen between them before they decide to take it to a new normal. 3 ¾ stars for this novel, I’ve read a few by this author so I look forward to reading more from her.

Every time life has let her down, a boy has broke her heart, or things just haven't went well in general Natalie Shay has always had one bright spot in her life, her best friend Aidan Costa. From the day they met they knew their friendship would be one that would last forever, it was an easy and undeniable connection right from the start. Through the years they have had each other's backs, and now is a time when Natalie really needs him, she has just divorced her college sweetheart, and her heart is broken beyond repair.

Their little re-connection brings her the comfort and stability she needs, but it also brings about some unexpected fireworks. Ones that neither saw coming, but both of them at one point or another have thought about exploring. But they always quickly pushed the thoughts away for the sake of their friendship... that is until now!

Good on Paper is a slow burning friends to lovers story that comes brimming with drama, emotion, and bits of steam! When these two long time friends decide to take their friendship to another level things between them quickly get heated, but also get a little messy too. Because both of them come baring secrets and hang-ups about love, and it has the potential to wreck everything before it even has a chance to get started. I really enjoyed this first time read, it was nicely paced and well written tale, came equipped with characters that you really couldn't help but fall for. Highly recommend!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.

This one was a mixed bag for me.

I am a big Jennifer Millikin fan - her writing has a poetic quality that pulls me in, and her dialog is fantastic. And I like her characters. But Good On Paper had a couple of things that are me issues...

First, I'm not a big fan of the friends-to-lovers trope. This stems from the tendency of authors to have the characters repeatedly say - or think - "I don't want to lose my best friend" or other such similiar nonsense. This trope also tends to lend itself to characters who don't communicate honestly or openly with each other.

Which brings us to the second "me" issue: we know from fairly early on the hero has a secret he is keeping which may or may not be the main reason why he won't let himself get involved with the heroine. I absolutely loath when authors let the reader know there's a big secret and constantly hint about it. Now, the hinting wasn't excessive or obnoxious here, and we finally find out what it is at about 60%, and it really was a doozy of a secret. So all things considered, using the "character has a secret" as a plot device didn't make me as cranky as it could have. But it still kinda did.

At any rate, this is one of the authors earlier books and even though there were some things that I didn't enjoy, I read it quickly. I'm still glad I decided I want to read her back list and am looking forward to reading the rest of Ms. Millikin's books!

Aidan and Natalie have been best friends since high school. Her family is broken, and he comes from a family that has literally had a romance written about them. She has always been desperate to find that perfect romance that had eluded her parents. He lived his life having only casual flings, unwilling to put his heart on the line. After her divorce, Aidan is there for her like he always is. The two start to question their platonic relationship after Natalie has too much to drink one night and asks Aidan why they never got together. Despite being scared to ruin their friendship, they can't deny their feelings and they go for it. Will this work for them, or will this choice result in the loss of their friendship and the one person each of them can't live without? Secrets are uncovered that could put their future together in jeopardy. I think a good lesson from this story is that sometimes, you are so busy looking everywhere else, that you fail to see what is standing right in front of you. This was a pretty good best friends to lovers story.

Twenty eight year old Natalie Shay is facing a divorce & that's not how she imagines her life to be. But she has Aiden Costa, her BFF to help her get back on her feet. This is an enjoyable friends-to-lovers romance.

It was refreshing to read a friends-to-lovers romance where both are pretty much right in the friend zone. Aidan is harboring a secret that makes him leary of romance and of putting his heart on the line, but he hooks up with a new gal every weekend. Natalie keeps him squarely in the friend zone. Then things happen that make them realize maybe they love each other.

Aidan's past threatens their new found happiness & there are some tears and a little angst before they get their HEA.

Told in rotating first person,  this is the first book by Jennifer Millikin and I look forward to reading more from her. Thanks Booksprout for the opportunity to read and provide my honest review of this story.  Well done.

This is a very sweet friends to lovers romance featuring Natalie and Aidan. They have been best friends since high school. Natalie married someone else despite Aidan's dislike of the guy and finds herself divorced four years later. Aidan has never committed to anyone because of a secret that he's kept since childhood. Sparks start to fly when Natalie has a bad date, gets drunk, and asks Aidan a question that breaks their friendship rules.

Natalie is trying to publish a novel, and I love how the book shows the feedback process she goes through, including how she doesn't include enough steamy scenes

Similarly, there are only a couple of steamy scenes in this book and they are tastefully done. I'm usually more for description and drawing out a steamy scene, but I get why the author treated them the way she did.

Overall, it's a very sweet book with some good plot twists. Well worth the read.

This is a really sweet best friends to lovers romance with terrific characters. The author gave us wonderfully developed characters, a little mystery and a few heart stopping moments. The story drew me in from the beginning without a lot of fanfare and kept me interested in these characters and their love story. A slow build but when our couple got there it was magnificent. Good feels! There was already so much love between Nat and Aidan that the progression to romantic love was beautiful. I didn't even mind the drama towards the end or Aidan's secret. But I wanted The Hot Doctor to get his own story without the witch. Great epilogue! I don't think I've read this author before but I will again. Her writing is wonderful and her characters intriguing. I liked that she didn't overly describe the characters physical attributes unless it was appropriate for the timing in the story. For a love story it's not too salacious, just lots of real love! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.

I know I say it all the time, but I am a sucker for friends to lovers stories. Good on Paper involves Natalie and Aidan who have been best friends since high school. As the story opens, Natalie has just signed her divorce papers and is finally free. However, She ans Aidan have always had a rule that they wouldn't cross that friendship line.

If you are a fan of slow burn romance stories, then you will probably like this one. Fir me, it was almost a little too slow. I like a bit more heat in my slow burn romance and this one didn't have a lot of heat. It wasn't until the last 1/4 of the book that I really felt the attraction between Natalie and Aidan. That being said, I was rooting for them. The reason behind Aidan's unwillingness to commit was surprising. I kind of wish that had been explored a bit more as we only really get his mother's perspective and not really his father's. I would recommend this one. It was an overall enjoyable read.

Jennifer Milkin has a way with romance that makes it seem so easy yet unreal. We have Aidan who was raised by real romance come to life yet skeptical about it. Faced with lies about love he doesn't know for sure how he feels for Natalie. Friendship is important to him and losing Natalie for love is not an option. I loved how Jennifer created this friendship amd the possibility of something more for them. There were times when I wanted to hit Aidan for being stupid yet in a way it all makes sense. All in all it was really good and cannot wait to see what Jennifer has in store for her readers.

Amazing best friends to lovers story! Prepare for the ride!
Meet best friends Natalie & Aidan, friends since he found out her secret in 9th grade. They have been by each other's side through everything, including her marriage to someone else, he's also there for her divorce. They have never crossed the line with each other, till one night after she's had a bad date.No they didn't sleep together! They are trying to keep their friendship in tact and not cross the line any further as they try to navigate their new found feelings. But not everything is as easy, and outside forces will try to come in between them, he has a secret he's been hiding his entire life!
I enjoyed this story, 5 hearts for this one!

Even knowing that this would turn out to be a friends-to-lovers romance didn't prepare me for the emotional rollercoaster of this story! It was just so well written and there's never a moment of doubt that Aiden and Natalie are exactly what they say they are - livelong best friends. Until they themselves start to question what if and see each other differently.
There are a few moments of pure angsty emotional torture - and I mean that in the very best way possible. These characters feel real, and the life breathed into them and their situations and the wider cast is pretty fantastically spot on. I had some of the bigger things figured out pretty early and others took me totally by surprise.
Definitely add this one to your list!

New to me author, this was a great starting book. I will be reading more from her. Good on paper is a slow burn, with great banter between best friends Natalie and Aiden. Let's start with Natalie, she is a romance author trying to get published, recently divorced and a PK (Preachers Kid). Next is the best friend Aiden, he has perfected the one nightstand, son of a romance writer. She is trying to do everything expected, but life just really is not going her way. Aiden is her rock, been there forever, majored in what Natalie isn’t saying. After one of many rejections, Aiden offers a gesture, suggesting how to spice up her manuscripts. Will the friends become more, or will they just prove to thousands that the opposite sex can be just friends? Will she get published?

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review. This is the second Jennifer Milliken Book that I’ve read, and I’ve enjoyed both equally.

Natalie and Aiden are best friends and have been since high school. Aiden stood by Natalie as she got married and again as she divorced. Now they begin to test the lines they’ve drawn in their relationship. It’s a friend’s-to-lovers story with a few plot twists that keep the story moving. I do wish the book spent more time on the relationship that Aiden and Natalie build, but the bulk of the book is on the time they are not together.

I enjoyed the book and would definitely read this article again.
