Dark Hunter by Ava K Michaels is the first in her Warrior of Darkness Series. The spice between the main characters is a slow burn - both have tragedies in their pasts that have shaped them into who and what they are. But they don’t know just how alike they are.
Lazarus Báis is a centuries old vampire with a past so dark, he struggles to control it. He’s as happy as he expects to be, running his clubs and companies, and playing vigilante for a friend in the FBI. Until she walks in, and everything changes.
Ariana Harmon fights against debilitating fear constantly. She’s learned, practiced and mastered every fighting and defensive art she can, going all over the world to learn from the best. She runs her Information Technology company and practices Krav Maga as often as she can. She exists, determined to fight back the fear. When she’s chased into his club, everything changes.
AK Michaels has created a world, and a set of characters, that is impossible to ignore. I couldn’t stop swiping pages until the end, and can’t wait for the next book. Well earned 4.5 stars rounded to 5.

WOW, I loved, loved, loved Dark Hunter, the first riveting release in a brand new series from A.K. Michaels! No one writes vampire romance quite like Michaels. It's dark, dangerous, and delightfully wicked, just like her heroes and heroines! There were so many things I adored about this book - the skilled worldbuilding, creative storyarc, perfect pacing, suspenseful conflict, beautifully written third-person narrative, snappy dialogue, beautiful cover, and impeccable formatting. But in my humble opinion, the pièce de résistance is Michaels' intriguing and always engaging cast of characters. Her male and female protagonists never fail to capture my heart, and Lazarus Bais and Ariana Harmon were no exception. In this instance, I would classify Lazarus and Ariana both as antiheroes; their intentions were good, yet their actions are anything but heroic. But this is where Michaels truly shines! Through the progression of the story, she methodically and effortlessly transforms irrepressible scoundrels into swoony white knights and unscrupulous femme fatales into captivating, kickbutt heroines. Even her antagonists are noteworthy and memorable. Her villains are evil, nefarious, and dastardly, the kind we all love to hate. Then, she skillfully rounds out her cast with a diverse group of fascinating, secondary characters you want to know and read more about. It's bloody brilliant! Her characters are actually what first attracted me to her work. Almost 6 years ago, I read The Witch, The Wolf, and The Vampire, one of the earlier series by Michaels, and fell in love with the three protagonists, Josef, Gabe, and Perry. And the rest, as they say, is history! I was hooked and have been a diehard fan ever since. ( And FYI, if you're in the market for a riveting paranormal m/f/m vampire/shifter romance, I highly recommend The Witch, The Wolf, & The Vampire. Sigh... So dreamy.) But I digress, as usual, so let's talk about Dark Hunter.
Michaels is an extraordinary storyteller, and her talent has never been more evident than in Dark Hunter. She hit the ground running in the first few pages and never broke stride through the entire book! Whew! By the time I finished, I was sweating bullets and gasping for every breath. I became so engrossed in the story that I felt as if I were the one fighting for my life, and I'm not kidding. Dark Hunter is a perfect storm of nonstop danger, action, suspense, and passion. It's dark, raw, gritty, intense, emotional, all-consuming, completely spellbinding, and exceptionally well written. The two protagonists just blew me away! Ancient vampire Lazarus Bais was dark, dangerous, and unapologetically lethal. OMG, this dude was rude, abrasive, powerful, unemotional, fierce, controlling, vicious, sadistic, deadly, and seriously hot, but he was also loyal, protective, at times quite gallant, which wasn't often, handsome, and rich as sin. lol... And I was completely smitten! And beautiful, human IT Specialist (and secret hacker, among other things which I won't disclose because that would be spoilers) Ariana Harmon was so much more than she appeared. She may have seemed introverted, quite diminutive, in appearance as well as character, and had no real sexual experience, but she was anything but shy! Ariana was intelligent, courageous, strong-willed, determined, stubborn, feisty, and sassy with a mouth on her that would make a streetwalker blush. She was also extensively trained in martial arts and could kick your butt in a hot minute. Yup, you'll never find a shrinking violet heroine in one of Michaels' stories! At first glance, these two loners appear to be complete opposites, but these unlikely lovers have much more in common than they ever dreamed possible. Both Lazarus and Ariana have been severely affected by horrendous events in their pasts and are extremely slow to trust anyone. But when these two lost, broken souls collide -and I do mean quite literally - it's fire meet gasoline! Boom! The interaction between these two was mesmerizing. Michaels only teased us with one kiss and some very steamy mutual thoughts, but anyone who has read her books already knows what's coming and when Lazarus and Ariana finally do the deed, it will be explosive! lol... I can hardly wait to find out what happens next between these two control freaks! lol...
So, did I like this book? I think my answer is obvious but just to be clear, I LOVED it! Would I recommend it? You bet, and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain profanity, graphic violence, and hinting toward explicit sex. If you enjoy fast-paced, high-octane vampire romantic thrillers, brimming with danger, drama, action, angst, suspense, and steamy romance, then this series is screaming your name! This is a full-length novel but not a standalone read and does end with a cliffhanger, but the good news is Book 2, Dark Hunger, is already up for preorder. Woohoo! Will I read this author again! Abso-freakin-lutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! I was glued to my seat, white-knuckling my ereader, and gasping for my next breath with my heart beating wildly in my chest as the pages flew as quickly as the time. Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

Readers can indulge in a deliciously dark and sensually appealing experience with this new vampire romance. Lazarus and Ariana are strong characters with a secretly alluring dark side that readers want to get to know better. They stand out and speak to readers on a deeply hidden level that leaves readers wanting more. Lazarus is a vampire with a dark hunter side that demands to be let out in dark and deadly ways while Ariana has experienced great trauma that sparks a dark and deadly side to her psyche as well, and together their chemistry explodes from the pages with lots of sizzling sparks that readers can practically feel. The relationship of course, is being denied with strenuous objections and disbelief due to their emotional issues and secrets which keeps that happily ever after is suspense throughout.
Thrilling suspense builds as Ariana and Lazarus’ worlds collide causing some heated exchanges and tough, snarky attitude runs into charming but totally alpha attitude which keeps things real interesting throughout his fast paced and smooth flowing plot. Secrets are discovered and surprising twists has Lazarus questioning whether they will both survive what is headed their way including the attraction between them. The only downside to this exhilarating and deliciously dark read is that there is a cliffhanger and readers have to await the next book with enthusiastic and impatient anticipation.

Vampire Lazarus is a Dark Hunter who controls his nature by punishing those who deserve it. Ariana Harmon has trained hard and uses her skills to try and save women from men who seek to cause them. Their paths cross when she uses his club to escape a man she fails to initially deal with and there is an immediate attraction between them. The question is can they find a way to be together or will they both do their best to avoid each other?
This was a great start to the series and contained a series of dramatic occurrences. It was told in a way that was easy to read and just pulled you into the story so that you became addicted to them both. Well written it was easy to understand and feel. I feel they are destined to become something great in the future if only they would give in to the feelings that could exist between them.

Lazarus Bais a powerful and deadly vampire with a very dark side is so in over his head when Ariana Harmon literally runs right into him. They are perfect for each other since Ariana has a secret dark side of her own. I enjoyed this book and will read book 2 of the series.

DNF - quit at 12%
I just couldn't get into this book. The main characters were not very enticing for me to want to read about. There was too much inner dialogue for Lazareth, and that gets kind of old. I also thought a lot of that inner dialogue was repetitive.
At my age, life is to short & my time to important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.

Lazaro and Ariana had secrets, darkness but also a mission. The action takes the reader through their dark hunters’ deeds because that’s what they do, hunt! With a strange and strong attraction these characters kept the mystery and suspense all the time. They have their own demons threatening their mind but, they were focused in what they had to do. Interesting how Lazaro and Ariana were struggling with their lot and keeping me intrigued. Intense and exciting action, suspense, feelings of fear and dread, romance, passion and violence. Enjoyed this interesting, dark and heart racing story. Eager for the next book.

Pretty good book
This book was pretty good. I rated I 4* because the story was pretty good and it was different as it was told from.the males point of view. Sometimes you read these books, come across a male character and wish the book was from his POV. So it was good to r ad a book from his POV. In saying that I do wish there was just a tiny bi t more from Ariana.
One thing I didn’t like about this book was the same old - kickass female character, constantly saved by male. Ariana is a badass plain and simple. One point in the book though Ariana freezes however, we’ve been racing about how much of a good fighter she is and how she’s had all this training. The second time there looks like she’s going to be super badass Lazarus comes a long and stops it and has to protect her 🤦🏼♀️
Author - you have created an amazing female character. Utilise her, don’t let a male take from her her achievements and strength. There are millions of books like that already.
Another thing that I didn’t enjoy to much was the rambling. There were a lot of chapters where there were a number of paragraphs in a row saying the same thing that could have been said in one paragraph. I think this would have helped it now feel like it was droning on. This as well as there were a number of times where she repeated the same sentences further in the book. Again, just made it seem like it droned on.
Other than the above I really enjoyed the books plot, characters.
I do however hope that we find it their secrets. It’s a tad annoying finishing the book and were still no closer to knowing what the deal is.

I LOVE this new character. He is dark, brooding and can be scary, but with the young woman who came running into his club, something is different about her. He somehow wants to protect her, and that is just not like him, and even more scary is the fact that his hidden beast is acting up around her too. He saves her life, but she is too independent and does not want his protection, yet somehow he must do it. So using his skills, and his contacts he keeps an 'eye' on her. When he takes her home one night, she is not prepared for the intruder in her little domicile and for some reason all her own defensive skills abandon her and she screams for Lazarus to save her. Although he is already quite a bit away he somehow hears her, and with that he hurtles back to her home and bursts in, throwing the door clean across the room, and his voice seems to come from everywhere at once. When he sees who has a gun pointed at her, his powers come to the fore and that man is trapped against a wall and couldn't escape no matter what he tried. He was so scared he wet himself and by the time Lazarus is finished with him, he is a big mess on the floor. Lazarus has to call his club and his best man to get the mess cleaned up, and he just lifts Adriana up and over his shoulder and takes off with her. I cannot wait to read what happens when those two get it together! Best first book in any of Ava's series so far!

Lazarus B`ais – deadly hunter is an ancient vampire who owns many night clubs as well as other types of business. One night while at one of his clubs a women runs into him (literally), she is battered, bruised and a bit bloody. Ariana Harmon was running away from some bad men when she ran into a handsome man who decided she wasn't getting past him. Lazarus is used to people fearing him, not Ariana. She was very angry and trying not to show fear of the big vampire in front of her.
He recognizes the darkness in her, not as dark as his but there anyway. They both hunt for the same types of people, those who deserve punishment, deadly punishment.
She is hiding secrets, secrets Lazarus is determined to unravel.

Lazarus, love him or hate him. He is a cold, emotionless Vampire. A hunter, deliverer of his kind of justice. Not caring about himself or anyone else, that is until she ran into his Club. Ariana, beautiful, fearless, tough, running and hiding. He wanted her to himself, but he didnt like the Company she kept. Killers for hire, he wanted to protect her with every fibre of his being, she intrigued him. Ariana was cool, level headed, but had selected the wrong one this time. Who the hell did this Vampire think he was, she wasn't going to hide behind him, she was no coward. This is different from other Vampire books, Ava has depicted this particular Vampire as cold, unfeeling, detached from others around him, until he met Ariana. This is the first book in a series and I recommend that you read this one first. Its a good story, intriguing, gripping, with a cliff hanger. Loved it and cant wait for part two. A***********

She’s different from anyone else and he wants to know her and protect her. For her part, Arianna has plenty of secrets of her own and zero interest in being protected. Their interests intersect when a wolf shifter asks for help finding his daughter’s killer.
Ava K Michaels creates a fascinating new world here with multi-faceted main characters and an engrossing storyline. Not only the current mystery is interesting but so is the mystery of the characters pasts. I received an early copy of this book and voluntarily left an honest review.

Dark and alluring this new vampire romance will have you on the edge of your seat and you won't be able to put it down! The characters are well developed and their connection grows and draws them together as the book progresses but their multitude of secrets keep getting in their way. Lazarus is an ancient vampire with a darkness inside him that he keeps in check by hunting the worst of the worst and letting his inner beast punish them for their sins. Ariana has a tragic past that shaped her into the warrior she is today, seeking her own brand of justice and dealing it out. Two sides of the same dark coin, both using their darkness for good, but fighting their connection every step of the way. Will these two combine forces or ultimately be their own worst enemies? I can't wait to find out!

As a HUGE fan of AK Michaels, I was keen to get my hands on a new series of hers. The cover was dark and promising, the blurb just as intriguing. However, this was more of slow burner compared to some of her hot steamy novels we've come to know and expect. Arianna and Lazurus clearly have a bond but nothing actually happens between them in this book, they're too engrossed in catching the bad guys, which we have still to see the main fall out from...so, while this is a riveting read, it is very different from this authors other work.
As I said at the beginning I'll need to read book 2 to find out what happens next.

I read this after randomly seeing it advertised but it was extremely fortuitous for me as I love love loved it!
It is the first in the series & ends on an unexpected cliff hanger so I’ve just had to download the second book with the third & final one due very soon.
It introduces the very very sexy Lazarus who is an ancient & very powerful vampire but who has secrets he needs to control. He meets Ariana who although human is also troubled but has grown her own strengths to overcome them.
The book is fast paced & full of twists, turns & action. I pushed myself to finish it because I just had to see what happened only to be given the cliffhanger which I could have screamed at!

What a great opening for a series, i can't wait to start the next book right away.....So much action, desire and want.
Lazarus is a very very old vampire, but he's more than that and a man with a sense of justice like no other, but then that's what controls what he really is. If he didn't dole out punishments on those that deserve it, then he will wreak havoc. He can control his beast until a wild beauty bursts into his club and he is hit by something he never knew could touch him, but Ariana Harmon won't make it easy for him she has her own demons to deal with.
Will these two learn to deal with their demons together, or will they lose themselves because of fear of feeling.

This is Lazarus and Ariana's story . Lazarus is dealing with the darkness inside him that grew within from what happened in his past and man does he have dark thoughts but you gotta love the way he deals with the ones that seem to get away with everything . Ariana also has a darkness inside and has trained herself to be able to take care of herself and deal with the scum of the earth . These two were made for each other ! This book will have you staying up reading until the very end ! This is a bit darker than what I usually read but I have to say I am glad I did . Well written and recommended .

This will be the book on your top ten list for awhile. There is so much excitement going on you will be on the edge of your seat thru the whole book. You will want to finish it in one reading trust me.
You can feel the characters growing in every chapter, and feel the connection they are feeling towards each other. Two people that have deep feelings for each other but cannot get past their past to do anything about it. Will they every get together? This is what you will ask yourself thru the whole book.
One more book leaving me biting my tongue, and throwing my kindle at the author at the end..

I have met Lazarus and Ariana and boy what a rush! An adrenaline fueled action novel with my favourite supernatural being and a kickass female to rival all others before her. There's something about vampires that gives you the impression of sensuality, power and longevity in all it's forms. Dark Hunter: Warrior of Darkness is the new series by A.K.Michaels and it sure starts with an explosive bang. The Mistress of the Paranormal as I call Ms.Michaels never ever ceases to please and tantalise with her well spun tales. Knowing I have to wait for the next book is not pleasant at all, but for a taste of Lazarus and Ariana I will persevere.

If anyone is looking out for safety please look out for this book. I didn’t even finish the scene I DNF at about page 86 I think.
But in this scene the MMC brings home another woman for sex and to drink her blood and says that he wanted her willing but if she tried to leave he would compel her to stay and go through with it. I didn’t even finish the scene I don’t want to know what happens next. This completely threw me off and it sounds so predatory and borderline r**ey I refuse to finish this.

This is an amazing book with a twist to the story that I've not seen before..the main characters are strong defiant and both very much like lone wolves that are forced together to work a case, Lazarus a very old dark vampire is thrown into feelings hes never experianced and doesnt really like, Ariana has her dark secrets too and again is not thrilled with the emotions she is having regarding Lazarus, this book is explosive, thrilling and will have your fingers smoking whilst turning the pages ... can't wait to read part two to see where this goes .. as the clifhanger was a good one

Lazarus and Ariana take you on the scrumptious voyage into their world. Since I do read Hunter novels this one is right up their with the caliber that engages the reader in wanting to stay in their realm following their every move. This author gives you a suspenseful read thanks to the characters and their dark sides that also carry secrets but when they are together you are given explosive results. Enjoy but also save anticipation for the way you will go next.

Lazarus is a moody, dark vampire that meets his match with the IT wizard Ariana. Ariana has a secret and Lazarus wants to know what it is! There's action and a slow burn that will drive you crazy in all the right ways! The story gripped me and held tight throughout the whole book, to the point where when I finished I yelled out,"NO!!" I definitely recommend this book and wait anxiously for book 2 in this 3 book series! Enjoy!!

The fateful day that Ariana ran into Lazarus club life as he knew was about to change for a second time. He did not like the feelings Ariana stirred up in him but at the same time he realized they were stacked together for better or for worse. An Evil is coming & for the first time Lazarus is questioning his immortality. Hold on to your hat for a wild and wicked ride. I loved this story, especially the dynamics between Lazarus & Ariana.

Action intense. A vampire who hunts those that hurt others. A human woman who seeks to stop those that prey on women. Together they are explosive and they try to solve the case. And attraction between them is intense but don’t expect any romance in this first book of a new paranormal series. I love both the main characters. Both are definitely dominants and will clash. The bad guys will have no chance with this team.
