Bigfoot & The Other Ones: Encounters, Stories & Compelling Clues About Sasquatch & Other Ape-Like Cryptids

Rate this book
Bigfoot, also called Sasquatch, is thought to be a large, hairy, ape-like being that inhabits some of the dense forests and remote mountain ranges of North America.

Although solid, scientific evidence of the creature is lacking, stories of sightings and encounters have been steadily accumulating throughout the years.

As a result, Bigfoot has been placed in the category of so-called “cryptids” — creatures that are thought by some to exist on Earth, but have yet to be properly documented by modern science.

Others in this category include the mysterious, waterborne, dinosaur-like being popularly-known as “the Loch Ness monster”, as well as the goat-eating Chupacabra of South America.

Due to the sheer volume of eyewitness accounts involving Bigfoot, most people in the Western hemisphere recognize the general description of this creature. What few may realize, however, is that the Sasquatch is not unique to North America. Or, at least, stories of mysterious, bipedal hominids are not.

From the mountainous regions of Nepal to the wild outback of Australia, tales of such beings have existed throughout history. In many cases, the descriptions of these creatures seem to match Bigfoot.

So, then, a few questions naturally

Are these all part of a singular, long-lost species of great ape, or are they separate beings with different genetic lineages?

How similar are they to each other, where do they to live, and is there any evidence of their existence?

In this book, we will explore these questions, and many more, as we go through fascinating accounts of sightings, encounters, and possible findings relating to the many elusive ape-like cryptids of our world.

Bigfoot & the Others was a fun short read. I typically read nonfiction books that can be pretty serious in nature, and I find it's nice to switch things up once and a while with a title like this.

The book is not very long, and is presented in audio format. The version I have clocked in at ~1 hour, 30 mins.

Interestingly enough, most cultures and societies of the world have their own legends of human-like apish creatures; with different names, and different sizes.

Of course, the meat and potatoes of the subject of a Bigfoot, or other related cryptids is do they actually exist ? While the author remains agnostic, he does lay out a possible case here.

In the book's intro, Kingsley talks about how the gorilla and panda were thought to be similar cryptid myths until just recently. In the book's conclusion, he posits that some of the reasons these creatures remain so elusive are that they are
I won't comment on the veracity of any of these claims, but it is a fun possibility to entertain.

The famous Patterson Gimlin film is also discussed here by the author, who notes that efforts to debunk it have not been a slam dunk. Rather, the more closely it is examined, the more credible it has become. This is something I also read in Prof. Jeff Meldrum's 2006 book Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science, which was also an interesting look into the subject.

As I mentioned at the start of this review; I enjoyed this one. I am admittedly a bit of a sucker for books about cryptids and other mysterious creatures, and the author did a good job with this short presentation. He successfully presents the case histories and the evidence, without an agenda or narrative one way or the other.
I would recommend the book to anyone interested.

After renewing my Kindle Unlimited membership, I somehow came across this book, and thought it would be a funny, ridiculous read, so I added it to my KU list.

While bored at work with nothing to do, I decided to take a break from the other books I was in the middle of, and read this. Well, I ended up reading it through that one sitting. It was intriguing, informative, and breezy.

Weirdly enough, this is one of the top books I've come across in the dozens I have read through KU. How is it that a book on hominid cryptids is one of the best-edited I've encountered? (They realize in order to be taken seriously, they have to present themselves as refined as possible?)

Literally, the only problem I had with this book was the "conclusion" - if you can even call it that. The author, Brian Kingsley, offers his hypothesis on why these creatures are rarely seen. (Spoiler:) This seemed like a footnote more than anything else, plus it didn't fit in with the rest of the book, which had only covered other people's experiences, observations, and hypotheses. That's what bumped my rating from a full 5-stars to a 4.

Why did I like it? For one, Kingsley presented information about these cryptids in such a way that made me inclined to believe in their existence. I've only really thought about Bigfoot before, and never would have thought that they actually are living beings. Because I studied anthropology in college, I appreciated the inclusion of stories from people who accept the hominids as being a part of their regular lives. Even if I decide I don't believe in any of these cryptids' existence, it still provided useful information about them, so if I ever come across conspiracy theories, people retelling their strange encounters, potential evidence, or other mentions, I will already have an idea of what they are talking about.

At the very least, this is a fun read that I would highly recommend.

Reads like a fairly well written school paper

This is a good introduction to the many bipedal cryptids of the world. Nothing new. No interesting anecdotal evidence for anyone that has previously read up on the subject. Should have been spell checked better.

A fine account of beings, other than human who coexist with

Man on and is world. At times competing with man for space and sustenance. Illogical as it seems, it is a very believable story.
