He’s just found out that he’s been designated the guardian for a half-brother he never knew existed. And that’s not even the craziest thing about this night. The annulment he thought he got twelve years ago? Yeah, that never went through.
She’s shocked to see him again, but not surprised they’re still married. After all, she was the one who refused to sign the annulment papers.
When she offers to help with his younger brother, a sweet, devout preacher’s daughter seems like an answered prayer. But he soon realizes that she wants a second chance. At everything. And he has a hell of a time resisting her… which is exactly what got him into trouble last time.

Erin Nicholas is the New York Times bestselling author of over sixty sexy contemporary romances. Her stories have been described as toe-curling, enchanting, steamy and fun.
She lives in the Midwest with her husband who only wants to read the sex scenes in her books, her kids who will never read the sex scenes in her books, and family and friends who say they’re shocked by the sex scenes in her books (yeah, right!).
This book has many Christian value. I do not comfortable reading this because I think the Christian value in this book does not agree with me. I also have problem with the Eve. She was a two good shoes girl when she met Kevin. She is preacher's daughter. Then after Kevin left and annulled their marriage, she becomes a wild person. And she did admit to Kevin that she becomes wild girl. Drinking, stalking, hanging out with wrong crowd. The way the author depicts this makes me cringe. Grow a bone girl!
This was one of the better books in the series and I loved how it mixed humour with more. The hero/heroine had eloped fourteen years ago when they were just kids, she a devout a Christian and he crazy for her but when the next day the heroine couldn't tell her father the truth, like the teenagers they were, the hero applied for an annulment and left and led life on the edge for a long time, taking chances, drugs, women but then he found faith, which showed him a new way and he leads a better life now and has been celibate for eight years. Then he learns his dad has a kid from an affair and Kevin is the only who can look after the kid since his parents want nothing to do with it, so he agrees and moves back to his hometown. The second shock is finding out that he is still married.
Eve was a young girl who made a mistake and that cost her everything. She never signed the papers because she wanted Kevin to talk to her and give her another chance and that didn't happen. The attraction is still there and the resentment and some love, but is that love the same? Because both of them have changed. Earlier Kevin was not a believer and came to church to show her father and hid parts of himself to make her love him, now he is a believer. Eve is no longer that shy girl, she has made plenty of mistakes after her father kicked her out and no longer has faith.
I liked how we see both of them get to know each other while still having that love just a more mature version. The role reversal was great too. I also liked that the heroine too had had experience and enjoyed the hero's brother too.
I’ll admit I was really nervous about reading and reviewing this book. Not because I thought it would be bad but I really, really, really loved the last book in this series (Just For Fun) so I worried if I’d like this one as much and also because I wondered how Erin was going to deal with Kevin’s faith and still write the hot and steamy sex scenes we’ve all come to expect and enjoy. Let me state flat out, that she delivered big time on both counts and there was no reason for my concern. On top of that she brought to light that while so many people “talk the talk” of faith, very few “walk the walk” and live their faith day in and day out without being preachy or condescending to others. Erin Nicholas has managed to write a book about a man who pledged to himself and God to be a better man, stuck by those beliefs even while being teased by well meaning friends, helped those friends and others unselfishly and without expecting anything in return, and then reaches out to help his half brother he just found out about AND reconnect with the woman who is still his wife despite the fact they he thought their marriage had been annulled 14 years ago and yet, he still maintains his faith.
Right about now some of you are thinking, “Yeah right, no man is that good” but you’d be wrong. From book one (Just Right), Kevin Campbell has been there holding steadfast, offering help, advice, and just being there for anyone who needs him. Kevin is the epitome of a good, solid Christian man. Now, that’s not to say he’s not a man because he proves how much a man he is over and over in this book! I’ve admired Kevin from the beginning of this series, despite everything he’s maintained his friendship with his wild friends and watched those friends fall in love and some even marry. He’s never judged, he might have made some suggestions from time and time but he didn’t judge. Kevin had somewhat of a wild past but for the past eight years he’s lived a pure life; no drinking, no sex, and for the most part no swearing. When he’s informed by a social worker that he’s still married, he knows he has to get to the bottom of it and since he’s moving back to his hometown to take temporary custody of his half-brother, confronting his “wife” won’t be difficult.
Eve Donnelly (Campbell) is shocked when her not so ex-husband confronts her at her restaurant but she’s even more shocked by her reaction to him (I’m pretty sure he was a little shocked as well). When she finds out that Kevin is a devout Christian, she is concerned what is reaction will be when he finds out she’s lost her faith. However, she realizes that he needs her help and since she’s never really given up on the fact that he’s “the one” for her, she decides to help him with his brother, Drew. Since Drew’s Mom worked for her, she already knows him and she decides that the more she’s around, the easier it will be to make Kevin realize they belong together.
It’s hard to me to decide what I liked best about this story because there were so many great parts. I love that Kevin was so unsure about so much, it made him seem more human, but it was gut wrenching when he messed up and beat himself up over it. He so wants to be perfect and when he realizes he’s not, it’s hard to watch. Eve’s loss of faith, which I can really and truly understand, was difficult because deep down, I don’t think she wanted to be disconnected from her church but so many bad things that happened to her she related to the church and her minister father. Then there is Drew, a precocious and brilliant ten year old boy whose life is turned upside down yet he manages to console and counsel both Kevin and Eve. He is truly a remarkable character and I hope we get to see more of him in the future. I can’t deny that I enjoyed every minute spent with the gang from the first four books because they are always entertaining but what I loved most is that they let Kevin know how much they appreciate him and how much they admire him for his convictions in this book. They’ve teased him for years, but it’s pretty apparent they did so with love and they are there to support him when he really needs it. I’d be wrong to not mention Pastor Bryan and say that I wish there were more men of the cloth out there like him.
I know many of you are wondering about the love scenes because well this is an Erin Nicholas book and Kevin is a devout Christian, but remember these two are MARRIED. While they may have been apart for the last 14 years, they have no problem making up for lost time. Whew, do they ever make up! Suffice it to say that although Kevin has been celibate for 8 years, he hasn’t forgotten anything and Eve, well she’s learned a thing or two or three since their last time together.
I often wonder how some authors manage to get it right time and time again, but Erin Nicholas has done it once again. Just A Kiss contains characters both old and new blending together seamlessly to create an outstanding cast, superior dialog that is both witty and at times heart breaking, and a message that no matter what your faith; living it day in and day out will make the world a better place. How can anyone not want to try and live that message?
The Bradford series are the type of books that make you giddy and just fall in love with these characters their stories and just feel part of it. This book had something to do with religion but its not heavy, being centered on Kevin and Eve, the transition in their lives. Things happened that affected them both. Eve is his first love, they went through separation to grow and change is inevitable. They find each other after 14 years and the feelings, hurt, chemistry is still there. They can choose to explore that or throw it away. Its so good how seeing them in love again and how they gain the ground they lost. Second chances made sweeter, forgiveness and opening your heart to possibilities. With the help of their small town and good friends who got their backs Kevin and Eve find each other again. Im definitely excited for more Erin Nicholas books, this is the last for this series I assume since Kevin seems to be the last of the friends but I definitely wouldnt mind more.
I've been looking forward to this book seeing I quite like the others in the series I gave books 4 five stars....But I thought this was quite boring...I felt no real connection and chemistry ..he was to perfect..he didn't even get really mad at his father (or mother for that matter)
and Eva..if she really wanted to find him/meet him/see him.. he wasn't that hard to find....he didn't move across country..he moved 1,5 hours away for Christ sake....

This series seems to have two names The Bradfords and Everyday Heroes. The stories revolve around the Bradford family, their community center, doctors, nurses and paramedics. The whole circle of families and friends and their continuing support of each other make this series so special to me.
Kevin's life has blown up into new problems and issues he has ignored for years. He has a half-brother he didn't know existed. He goes back to the hometown and finds out he's still married. Eve has her own problems from then and now to understand.
I knew Kevin's story, with his conversion to being a Christian after having some rough years, would be a big one. And yes, Kevin is the amazing guy who helps everyone, he walks the walk. Kevin works every day to prove he is good enough. But he doesn't quite believe in himself, the way his group of friends do.
This close-knit, caring group of people really make the series. I love them. I laughed and cried and worried, with all the feels with them and for them. Just a Kiss is more icing on the cake.
Narration: Karen White performs these so well; they are like crack for me. I'm not sure I would enjoy the books as much without her talents. The emotion and wit with the dialogue and character thoughts are incredible! The different characters' voices are mostly recognizable to me now in the series. I was able to listen comfortably at 1.5x speed.
Gotta say, Erin Nicholas really handles the always difficult issue of Christianity extremely well. The church is made up of real people with real problems - and a lot of them are highly legalistic. Being a good person doesn't make you a Christian, but that's not the point of this story and Nicholas doesn't try and address it. Our main character Eve is hurt by the one person she should have been able to absolutely trust in her life: her dad. And interesting that this is very common in real life; there are plenty of pastors who think they're doing the right thing by abandoning those who are caught in what they see as sin. Even their own children! It's easier to leave than to hang around and help a person fix their problems, as it were. But that's not what Christ calls us to, and this book points that out well. Unfortunately one idea it offers is that her dad could have saved her, when in reality only Jesus does that. Maybe it's just semantics but Christians are called to come alongside each other, love each other, and support each other through difficult times. We help each other figure things out through a filter of Christ's love. So if you want to call that saving someone, you can - but that's not what saves them in the end.
Anyway Nicholas has managed to combine all that with a steamy romance between two married people. Nobody is breaking any rules here, and I was impressed with the biblical references thrown in. None of the scripture is out of context. Drew the kid is very precocious and entertaining, so kudos for that little gem. Overall it's a great story. Karen White's narration makes it even better.
And just for context, I'm a former pastor's wife. A fickle church has pretty much been my whole life. People are hard but true, committed love is divine.
Kevin is a Christian, a Good Christian, a GOOD MAN he was in love with Eve, the Priest daughter since high school but they they separated and for 12 years they did not meet. now he returns to his hometown and meets Eve. And Eve will help him. And Kevin will help her. Together Kevin and Eve meet Faith, Love and Goodness.
Loved this book, this couple, this series so much! Thank you Mrs Erin Nicholas!
Erin Nicholas writes books that make you fall in love over and over again with the same men. I've read the entire series and the same 5 men continue to break my heart, make me cry and also help me remember why love is such a powerful emotion.
Kevin Campbell is the All American College and Pro football player that left his heart in Grover Nebraska.
Eve was the preachers daughter who watched her husband walk away and lost faith in love and life.
While Kevin is not my favorite of Erin Nicholas' men (I'm a Mac and then Dooley girl) I still fell madly in love with him and also wanted to smack him when he screwed up.
Her books are passionate but at the same time you see real life in each story. They are a fantasy but also a reality because these men truly are out there for everyone!
I love all these rowdy, goofy, ridiculously endearing, everyday heroes, but with each book that has brought me closer to Kevin's book, my anticipation has increased, and it’s now official. Kevin is my favorite hero of the day shift. I was really curious how the author would handle his story, and it couldn’t have been more perfect, down to the last detail. I mean, how do you write a modern day romance with a guy who is a Christian and has been celibate for the past eight years without compromising his beliefs and creating a ton of internal conflict and guilt for the poor guy? If his love interest is the girl he eloped with at eighteen, then finds out the annulment after about thirty hours of marriage never went through and he’s still married to her twelve years later, that takes care of some of the issues but creates an entirely new set of problems to deal with.
This is my new favorite book! I just read the last words and my heart is so full that the silly thing is happy sighing all over the place. There's steam and romance, but this book is so much more. Immensely more. Kevin and Eve both had some challenges to their belief systems, got some lessons in the imperfections of humanity and the beauty of forgiveness, and had huge growth individually as they sorted out their relationship.
Assuming custody of Drew, a ten-year-old half-brother he never knew about, certainly upended Kevin's comfortable, familiar routine, but it made for some amazing opportunities. In spite of a rocky start, it was trying to fix a few things with Eve that really drew Kevin and Drew together. And when all the heroes and their ladies stepped up to provide a back-up plan for Drew, well holy Hades, I was verklempt to the point my eyes started leaking, darn it.
Truly, I wish it were possible to live in this book world. I want to volunteer at the community center and be friends with the heroes’ ladies, and if I ever have a medical emergency, I want the everyday heroes to come to my rescue. Nicholas is a gifted author who obviously writes because she loves her craft, and that love shines through in every aspect of this book, from the unique, eternally loveable characters and the terrific, engaging storyline that kept me glued to the page to the perfect balance of heat and heart, with touches of humor sprinkled in at exactly the right time. This is a phenomenal, heartfelt, poignant, hilarious, feel-good read that you absolutely won’t want to miss! While you run off to the 1-Click button, I’m going to read the bonus novella tucked in back of Just A Kiss because I can’t get enough of these fantastic characters!

Wow! I'm telling you Erin Nicholas really can write. She always delivers a great read. Her stories never ceases to amaze me. She has everything that makes a great writer. Erin puts every emotion she can in her books. You always feel as if you are right there feeling it all. Erin writes realistic and relatable stories. I've never said "yeah right no way not possible" when reading her stories.
In Just A Kiss we get the long awaited story of Kevin Campbell. Kevin is everything wrapped up into one huge package. This is the story I've been waiting for. Throughout the other stories we have gotten glimpses of Kevin. Kevin is always there willing to help out in any way needed. He really is a good and solid man. Kevin is also a Christian. Kevin has been celibate for eight years. Yes ladies eight whole years of no sex. Kevin is loyal and faithful to his convictions. Kevin soon discovers he has a younger brother Drew, he never knew existed and is still married to the love of his life, Eve Donnelly. Kevin married Eve twelve years ago and their marriage only lasted thirty-one hours or so Kevin believed.
Eve Donnelly (Campbell) never signed the papers to dissolve her and Kevin's marriage. He truly is the love of her life. She is shocked when she comes face to face with Kevin and even more shocked to discover he is a devout Christian. Eve is a preacher's daughter and has lost her faith in God. Eve worries how Kevin will look at her when he discovers she has lost her faith. Eve agrees to help Kevin with temporary guardianship of his brother Drew.
When Eve and Kevin come together you can see they clearly belong together and still have chemistry. I loved how even Kevin who firmly believed in God and was a devout Christian had his own struggles to overcome. I loved watching both Kevin and Eve face and overcome their struggles. I really loved watching Kevin take on the role of big brother. I loved watching Kevin and Drew's relationship grow close throughout the story. Kevin truly is proof that anyone can change. I really loved the first chapter when Kevin learns about Drew. I also loved the part where he learns Eve still loves him. Just simply amazing.
Erin Nicholas delivered the perfect book. She truly did save the best for last in this series. Kevin's story was perfect. There were moments that made me laugh and moments that had my heart swooning. I even had moments of shock. When I finished this book I as wishing I was there in this world and was friends with the guys and their women. I wanted to be a part of the group. This was so much more than just a romance novel. Just A Kiss was about finding yourself and about belonging and about friendship and starting over again and forgiveness. Kudos Erin Nicholas for giving us a story so powerful and yet so sweet and romantic also. I definitely recommend you grab a copy and see why I as well as so many others love Just A Kiss and Erin Nicholas. You won't regret it. I have read this book twice and both in one sitting each. I just couldn't put it down. So join me and discover why so many readers love Erin Nicholas and Just A Kiss.
Just a Kiss, the last in Erin Nicholas's Just Everyday Heroes: Day Shift series (formerly known as the Bradfords), is a second chance story. Kevin Campbell's a former football star, and now a paramedic. His crew is a tight one, and now that they are all settled down with the women of their dreams, he can't help but feel a little envious. But he's also become a Christian, and over the last eight years, he's really made the effort to walk the talk, so he isn't looking to just have a good time. Besides, he's already been in love before. And it broke his heart when she walked away.
Eve Donnelly Campbell is the one who got away. A preacher's daughter, she'd been swept off her feet by Kevin in high school, and loved him so much that she'd willingly eloped with him after they graduated. What she didn't tell him was that she'd never signed the annulment papers...
When Kevin's half brother needs a home, it's the perfect chance for them to maybe try again.
Ms Nicholas amazes in this story, showing with compassion what love and forgiveness really look like, whether it's with the love of your life or your parent or someone else. A non-preachy view of Christianity is also a welcome part of this story.
We also get glimpses of the couples and characters in the other stories in the series, and I'm a little sorry this is the last in the series, as this community is one I've enjoyed visiting again and again.
Kevin has completely changed his life. He used to be a player, drinking & causing trouble. And the women! Now he’s been celibate for several years & is living a cleaner life. He sees his friends & co-workers finding & falling for their women & he wants that. Too bad he can’t forget the one he let get away years ago. Then he received shock after shock! He was asked to become his half brother’s guardian & found out he was still married. Married!!
Eve was hurt & disillusioned. She was the perfect ministers daughter until she did one thing her father didn’t like. When he, along with the congregation, turned his back on her for making one mistake, she turned away from the church & went wild. This was all after she hurt Kevin though. Now, face to face with her husband after all of these years, how was she going to tell him she wasn’t the same person he loved?
I’ve loved Kevin since the first book in this series. He’s so steadfast in his beliefs & deals with the others teasing so easily. I was hoping he’d get his happy ending. Eve is perfect for him & I actually feel that her struggles with religion are part of that. In the end, they both were where they wanted to be for the right reason. The interactions with all of the guys & their significant others really made this entire series. The teasing, the love, the support. They have each others backs at all times. They have truly become a family. What a terrific series!
It's Kevin's turn! Of all the guys on the EMT crew, he was probably my favorite and I was curious about his story.
He cares deeply about his friends and their significant others, and spends time with them whenever possible. After all his friends have found love he isn't sure it's in the cards for him, though. Especially because he still cares so much about a woman from his past named Eve.
His life is quickly turned upside down when he finds out his annulment to Eve never happened 12 years ago and he has a half-brother he never knew about.
Eve and Kevin were both very interesting characters. Their story and struggles were both very unique from what the other characters in the series experienced. Even though their actions were not always logical or in line with what I would have expected, the author made it easy to understand why they may have acted that way.
Dooley, Mac, and Sam make lots of appearances, and some of the most hilarious and heartfelt moments are when the guys are together. I especially love Dooley and Kevin's friendship.
This book definitely started off crazy, it was as though you were on a gossip show and Kevin Campbell, usually the quiet one, is right in the middle of everything. He finds out he has a half-brother whose father is his own dad and an old classmate, his mother is having a cat-fight with the half-brother’s mom and she wants him to be guardian of Drew while she’s in jail and oh yeah, he is still married to someone he hasn’t seen in years, Eve Donnelly (Campbell). I really felt for Kevin while I was reading this book. Of course, Kevin being Kevin, stepped up for Drew like everyone knew he would. As always, his friends were there for him as Kevin is always there for everyone else. I thought it was really touching when all of his friends and their wives/fiancé stepped up and all got approved for emergency foster care in case Kevin needed some help including his new friends in Grover. This was a great book and I especially loved how it ended and the Living on a Prayer song reference was perfect!
Erin definitely is leaving the best man for last!! When Kevin finds out he has a half brother, Drew, from an affair his dad had, he is asked to take guardianship of him for 6 months. This is when he finds out he is still married to his high school sweetheart Eve, who he has never gotten over. With both Eve and Kevin having trust issues, it takes them 12 years before they see each other again to deal with all their remaining feelings and for Kevin to find out why Eve did not sign the annulment papers!! These two definitely need some kind of closure. This book is definitely a must read..love the emotions, love and laughter they go through. The gang is all there to lend support! Love this close net clan of friends who band together to support each other!! I want to live in this world!!
Kevin and Eve eloped secretly after high school graduation. Eve's father was a strict minister who did not approve of Kevin inspire of his doing slot of right things. The day after the slope ment Kevin insisted on going to see Eve's overbearing father then insisted she tell him they married. When Eve faced her father she didn't tell him. So Kevin was hurt and left. Eve told her Dad the next day and expected Kevin to come back and he never did. They were both in love but young. Eve waited two years for Kevin never heard from him. He figured she chose her father over him. They both went on and met again twelve years later. Slot happens in between and after but I won't spoil it for you. Read it! I an surprised I missed it when it was first published I read all the other books in this series. Don't miss it!
Just a Kiss is book 5 in the Just Everyday Heroes series and the end of the Day Shift..looking forward to reading more of Just Everyday Heroes in the Night Shift.
This book is about Kevin and Eve who got married young, got the marriage annulled and moved on or so they thought until things blow up in Kevin's life...his dad gets stabbed, find's out he has a half brother that he didn't know existed, mom's in a fight and his annulment never happened because Eve never signed the papers...what a dilemma for our Christian, celibate Kevin and will he have a second chance with the preacher's daughter, Eve and the reason he hasn't found his soulmate...sure didn't see all this happening!!
So Kevin and Eve's book was much better then the others. The opening of the book was one chaotic scene especially since Kevin's Dad had a confrontation at a Restaurant with his wife and his mistress. The shocker was Kevin had a 10 year old little brother. Kevin's Dad chose his wife (of course) over his son and poor Kevin had to uproot his life for 6 months for his little brother while the child's Mom went to jail and rehab for a DUI. The other interesting part was when Kevin finds out his marriage from 12 years ago was never annulled and he was still married to the love of his life. Cute little read but seems Kevin did the same thing to Eve that her father did to her and what she did to Kevin.
Eve and Kevin….Kevin and Eve….They were each other’s first great love and the one that no one can compete with…especially since they are still MARRIED!!
An impulsive act as 18 year olds leads to heartache and lots of misunderstandings but true love is always going to prevail. Kevin spent years denying the hurt he felt at Eve’s easy dismissal of their relationship. Eve spent years waiting for him to fight for her. Throw in a few quirks like a baby brother he never knew about, a crazy scene involving his parents and silverware and the entire EMT crew from the rest of the Just Everyday Heroes series and you have magic.
This was not your typical second-chance love story. Kevin and Eve got married, got an annulment, and moved on - or so they thought. When Kevin's world comes crashing down around him he finds out he's still married. Talk about a twist I never would have seen coming with Kevin! Watching Kevin working through becoming a guardian, dealing with his parents, and working things out with Eve was as heart-wrenching as it was beautiful. I loved how they learned to let go of their pasts and grow together. Kevin deserved a great story after we saw him in each of the previous books and this did not disappoint!
I enjoyed this book about Kevin and Eve. Kevin just found out that he has a half brother through his dad and that he will be appointed guardian of Drew. The social worker comes around to find out if he will be a good guardian and asks about his wife. Keven annulled the marriage 12 years ago so he doesn't know what she's talking about.
Then he finds out that his wife never signed the paperwork. She didn't want to be divorced from him since she still loves him. Now he has two very big deals to work with and around. He doesn't know what to do with Drew so having Eve around is a help. But what will he do about Eve.
Sexy, thrilling, sweet and entertaining second chance romantic journey filled with family secrets, history, laughter, love and undeniable passion....
Kevin is charming, sweet, sexy and a changed man after finding solace in his faith. Eve is a sexy, sweet preacher's daughter and eloped with the love of her life at 18 only to be separated the next day in church. Kevin comes back to town after the shocking news of a half brother needing his help and gets a second shock finding out he is still married... Loved this emotional adventure.
Fifth book in the Bradford series. This is a nice, simple, feel good series with plenty of heat between the characters. The stories focus on crews of paramedics that work out of a hospital. The technical aspects of the stories are pretty spot on. I work in the field and I was impressed.
This is part if a series. I would recommend starting with the first book in the series and then reading the Counting On series afterwards. It is a continuation of the series.
Love love love this story. Kevin and his big heart always trying to help everybody. He has turned his life around and has become a Christian. Trying to live his life right. Eve the pastor daughter who walked away from the church. She never stopped loving Kevin. Never told him that they were still married. This is s great story. Once you start you won't be able to put it down. This is a must read.
Kevin is one of my favorites in the day shift so nice and sweet with a past, after returning to his faith he has turned over a new leaf. Finding out about a half-brother and that he's still married to Eve has turned his world a little crazy but well worth it, in the end, a great story and a way to round this series out Kevins Depth is deep and he is just an awesome character to read, I felt like he was someone I could come to know and befriend in the real world a solid guy.
Great story; worth the buildup and the wait. I would have liked to listen to it like I did the previous installments, but my library system didn’t have access. It was fun to be back in these characters’ world and watch them work their issues out. They are quite the fascinating and amusing bunch. I think I’ll be rereading this series sometime, when I can do it in a short and time and really enjoy the world as a whole. Looking forward to more of her work.
I normally LOVE Erin Nicholas and for the most part it was a decent book, plus I miss Karen White narrating since her retirement (we’ve become friends after her shift over to writing instead)… but this book slaps you in the face with Christianity, without warning. As an Atheist, I really don’t appreciate that!
Storyline was just alright - not the typical excellence I’ve come to expect from Erin!
