Pie isn’t just a dessert, it’s a way of life.

Pies, fillings, jams, jellies, honey, they’re all a part of my award-winning business, Firefly Kitchen. After being left behind, by everyone, I was determined to make it all on my own, and I have. I love what I do, I love what I’ve created, and I love who I’ve become. Yes, it’s small, but it’s mine, and nothing or no one can stop me now. Not even Bryan Brennen. He may have returned, but it won’t be long before he leaves. And regardless of which way you slice it, some things can’t be forgotten, no matter how sweet the taste.

Bryan Brennen
Football isn’t just a sport, it’s a way of life.

I’ve spent more years than I can remember chasing my dream. When you come from nothing, it’s even more important to become something. The unstoppable drive and incomparable determination that is ingrained in me has gotten me to where I am now; twenty-eight years old and undoubtedly the best professional quarterback in the league. To be happy is to be perfect. Plans, plays, passes, I’ve mastered them all, but it was never just for me, it was for her, too. Only she doesn’t know it, and now, ten years later, I’m ready to tell her.

She’s a small town girl. He’s a household name.

Kathryn Andrews is a #1 Inspirational Romance Bestselling Author who loves stories that end with a happily ever after. She started writing at age seven and never stopped. Kathryn is known for Chasing Clouds, the Starving for Southern series, and her much loved Hale Brothers series. Her stories are sweet, southern, and fall into the genres of chi-lit, contemporary romance, sports romance, and southern fiction.

Kathryn graduated from the University of South Florida with degrees in Biology and Chemistry, and currently lives in Tampa, Florida. She spends her days as a sales director for a medical device company and her nights lost in her love of fictional characters.

When Kathryn is not crafting beautiful worlds that incorporate some of her most favorite real life places, she can be found hanging out with her husband and two young sons, while drinking iced coffee and enjoying the sun.

A note from the author...

Over ten years ago my husband and I were driving from Chicago to Tampa and somewhere in Kentucky I remember seeing a billboard that was all black with five white words, “I do, therefore I am!” I’m certain that it was a Nike ad, but for me I found this to be completely profound.

Take running for example. Most will say that a runner is someone who runs five days a week and runs under a ten minute mile pace. Well, I can tell you that I never run five days a week and on my best days my pace is an eleven minute mile. I have run quite a few half marathons and one full marathon. No matter what anyone says, I am a runner. I do, therefore I am.

I’ve taken this same thought and applied it to so many areas of my life: cooking, gardening, quilting, and yes…writing.

I may not be culinary trained, but I love to cook and my family and friends loves to eat my food. I cook, therefore I am a chef!

My thumb is not black. I love to grow herbs, tomatoes, roses, and lavender. I garden, therefore I am a gardener!

I love beautiful fabrics and I can follow a pattern. My triangles may not line up perfectly…but who cares, my quilts are still beautiful when they are finished. I quilt, therefore I am a quilter.

I have been writing my entire life. It is my husband who finally said, “Who cares if people like your books or not? If you enjoy writing them and you love your stories…then write them.” He has always been my biggest fan and he was right. Being a writer has always been my dream and what I said I wanted to be when I grew up.

So, I’ve told you who I am and what I love to do…now I’m going to tell you the why.

I have two boys that are three years a part. My husband and I want to instill in them adventure, courage, and passion. We don’t expect them to be perfect at things, we just want them to try and do. It’s not about winning the race, it’s about showing up in the first place. We don’t want them to be discouraged by society stereotypes, we want them to embrace who they are and what they love. After all, we only get one life.

In the end, they won’t care how many books I actually sell…all that matters to them is that I said I was going to do it, I did it, and I have loved every minute of it.

Find something that you love and tell yourself, “I do, therefore I am.”

description So where do I 🅢🅣🅐🅡🅣 with this one? 👀 First, 𝓚𝓪𝓽𝓱𝓻𝔂𝓷 𝓐𝓷𝓭𝓻𝓮𝔀𝓼 is a new "to me" author, and if you follow my 𝕣𝕖𝕧𝕚𝕖𝕨𝕤 you know I love to try new authors. 🙌 Second, the ¢σνєя of this book is just so ƤƦЄƬƬƳ, and I l♥o♥v♥e me a heroine that bakes. 🍰 With all those things already ɢᴏɪɴɢ ғᴏʀ ɪᴛ there was a high 𝓹𝓻𝓸𝓫𝓪𝓫𝓲𝓵𝓲𝓽𝔂 that this book would be a 🅷🅸🆃 with me. 💕 And...it was. 👍 It came ⓋⒺⓇⓎ close to being a 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 story.

description
So onto the 𝖉𝖊𝖙𝖆𝖎𝖑𝖘...it was a 🅕🅐🅝🅣🅐🅢🅣🅘🅒🅐🅛🅛🅨 well-written book. 👍 I loved the 𝓼𝓮𝓽𝓽𝓲𝓷𝓰 with the old house and her pie making business. 🍥 It was ₩ɆⱠⱠ ₱₳₵ɆĐ and the story never dragged. 👌The plot was εηgαgιηg. 🙌 Very s♥w♥e♥e♥t. 🍭 A little h͎e͎a͎r͎t͎b͎r͎e͎a͎k͎i͎n͎g͎ at times. 💔 I am not sure I'd call it a true 𝓼𝓮𝓬𝓸𝓷𝓭 𝓬𝓱𝓪𝓷𝓬𝓮 romance since 🅻🅴🆇🅸 and 🅱🆁🆈🅰🅽 were never officially together. 🙈 Although there were fєєℓιиgѕ there on both sides. 💑 There was no Ø₩ or Ø₥ drama. 🎇 Both had been with others during the tєn чєαrѕ αpαrt.👍 However, what a 𝓻𝓮𝓯𝓻𝓮𝓼𝓱𝓲𝓷𝓰 change of pace to have a sports star not be a 🅜🅐🅝🅦🅗🅞🅡🅔 who was out partying every night. 🙌 The 𝕤𝕖𝕩 𝕤𝕔𝕖𝕟𝕖𝕤 were hot, but not erotica hot. 🔥 There was an 𝖎𝖓𝖙𝖊𝖗𝖊𝖘𝖙𝖎𝖓𝖌 cast of secondary characters. 👤👤👤👤 🅱🆁🆈🅰🅽 was a likable hero (mostly) and 🅻🅴🆇🅸 was a likable heroine (mostly). 👫 Last, it was all wrapped up in a sweet ɦαρρყ ƒσ૨ ɳσωเรɦ ending. 💒 I am guessing we'll see this 𝓬𝓸𝓾𝓹𝓵𝓮 again in the next book since it will feature one of 🅱🆁🆈🅰🅽'🆂 ex teammates. 🏈

description
So why not 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟? Two 𝓬𝓸𝓷𝓷𝓮𝓬𝓽𝓮𝓭 things really. 🔗 🅱🆁🆈🅰🅽 needed to grovel more. 😔 A lot more...and 🅻🅴🆇🅸 needed to be less of a "mᎪᏒᎽ suᎬ." 👀 She let both 🅱🆁🆈🅰🅽 and her brother (IMO) treat her badly. 👎 She fell right into 🅱🆁🆈🅰🅽'🆂 arms after ten years of ՏíӀҽղϲҽ AND she was the one that 𝓰𝓸𝓮𝓼 𝓽𝓸 𝓼𝓮𝓮 𝓱𝓲𝓶 after how he treated her near the end. 😒 I needed 🅱🆁🆈🅰🅽 to at least be the one to 🅒🅗🅐🅢🅔 the heroine to get her back the 𝕤𝕖𝕔𝕠𝕟𝕕 time. 🏃 Had that happened then this would have been ą ƈơɱ℘Ɩɛɬɛ ɧıɬ with me. 👍

4 Sugary Sweet Stars!

This is another super cute book in the series. I liked how sweet both the MCs were, and how they both pined after eachother for all those years. It never dragged, though, some of Lexi's inner dialogue annoyed me just a bit, but I never felt the need to put the book down, and it is also very well written. The first sex scene between them was also really sweet and sensual too.

There are a couple things that if changed, would probably have been a 5 star book for me though. One being, Lexi forgave Bryan way too easily! I don't know if its just because of my own cynical heart speaking, but after how Bryan left her the first time, and basically ignored her all those years, it is already a couple strikes on my no-no list, but then she forgives him so easily for it. Okay, that was annoying, but if he can redeem himself, I may be able to forgive him too, especially with how sweet he is. But nope. They're all lovey dovey, then he starts to feels pressured, starts putting the blame on her for his bad playing, and basically telling her they can't be together because he can't handle it all, all while insulting her, and what she does for a living, in the break up.

So, of course, I'm back to hating him now, but still liking him, and hoping that maybe Lexi will finally stand up for herself and stop acting like he's a God, and she can never be happy without him. Then her inner dialogue starts finally making sense, and I think she's finally gonna realize she can move on, but then again, nope. She goes to his game, he loses (which I'm glad for), and he's devastated, which is good, because it forces him to realize his wrongs, but I'm still hoping Lexi can maybe be there for him, which she was, but just as a friend maybe because he still pulled that crap on her. Nope, she forgives him right away, before he even apologizes really, and they get back together and have their happily ever after. No groveling for him ignoring her and her grandma for 10 years, after all they have done for him, and no groveling for insulting, and putting the blame all on her, and breaking up with her.

I really, truly wish she wouldn't have forgiven him so easily, especially because he let her down in a big way, twice, that it made me feel bad for her, but not enough because she was such a pushover, which made then made me mad.

Now, I DO like Bryan, I really do, he was so sweet at times, and you can tell he really did always care for her through his dialogue, but never really through his actions, and I feel as if there is always going to be a seed of doubt because of that.

I think the biggest problem with second chance romances, is they are all the same. The guy always leaves, and a lot of times, moves on, and the girl is always left pining after someone who screwed them over, never moving on, and always forgives them way too easily, but luckily he never really moved on, "technically", though he might as well have at that point.

Overall, this was still a great book, with fantastic writing, and though they weren't my favorite (Zac and Shelby are), I'm still excited to read the next one in the series!

Kathryn Andrews continues to be one of the most talented authors I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Her writing is so beautiful, so consuming, and has given me some of my all-time favorite stories. When I sit down to read a book by her I know without a doubt that I am about to go on one helluva journey that will be vivid, that will be memorable, and that will sure as hell take my breath away.

Last Slice of Pie delivered all of that and more.

This story was a sweeping and utterly enthralling story of second chances, football and pie, and what happens when the one person you’d already given up on comes blazing back into your life in a way you didn’t think was possible.

I loved every single incredible, emotional, and unforgettable word of this book. I loved getting to fall so hopelessly in love with Bryan and Lexi as their story unfolded. I loved getting to be right in the thick of it as those two put their hearts on the line and saw what could be. I loved getting to feel and live and breathe every single second of this story as Bryan and Lexi explored their second chance together. I loved getting to unfold their pasts, experience their present, and hoping with all that I had for their future together.

I loved it all.

I loved how this book swept me up whole heartedly into one of the most emotionally beautiful love stories I have ever had the privilege of reading.

I loved how from the moment I started this book and started living this story, I knew it was one I would never forget.

I loved every thoughtful nuance, every big moment, every little one, every swoon worthy moment in between, and every single moment I got with Bryan and Lexi as they fought for what they always wanted.

Kathryn Andrews outdid herself with Last Slice of Pie, and I truly cannot say enough good things about this book, this story, and the characters within it. This book is a phenomenal addition to her Starving for Southern Series, and it just showed me again and again why I LOVE her writing and her books so much.

This story was phenomenal from start to finish. It was exceptionally crafted, and the way that this story thoughtfully unfolded was practically magical. Getting to experience this story heart first, getting to fall in love with these characters, and getting to understand them on the deepest and truest of levels is just part of what made this book so magnificent. Kathryn Andrews allows you to peel back the layers of her dynamic characters, to understand what drives them, what binds them, and what will ultimately set them free. The way she so thoughtfully does this will sear you to her characters, and will have you rooting for them, their love, and what could be with all that you have!

Last Slice a Pie is a story about many things.

It's a story of unrequited love and second chances. It’s a story of football, pie, and more southern charm than you can shake a stick at. It’s a story of heart and determination and the fire that defines these two characters in the best way. It’s a story of what happens when the past and present finally collide to make for one consuming and unforgettable future. It’s a story about what happens when two characters with the strongest connection finally decide to take that leap of faith.

It’s a story of oak trees and fireflies, touchdowns and the biggest plays, pie crust and sass, and the beauty and magic of long lost love.

From the very first word of this book until long after you read the very last you will be completely swept up into the sweetness, the unadulterated emotion, and heart of this story with Bryan and Lexi. You will be there through their darkest moments, you will see what made them them and what defines their electric connection that spans decades, and you will be there as they fight to be who they’ve always wanted to prove they could be.

The way that Kathryn Andrews so incredibly delivers their story is practically magical. She has such a beauty to her words that creates the most vivid of moments that you will never want to have end. The way she lets it all unfold before your eyes will put you right in the thick of it with Lexi and Bryan, and will have you basking in the moments you get with those two. They will own you, break you, and put you through the wringer a bit, but you will absolutely love them and what they give you.

You will love the emotion, you will love the heartache, you will love the build up and the palpable fire between those two, and in the end you will love getting a front row seat to their second chance love story.

This book follows Lexi and Bryan as their paths cross once again and when a second chance at it all brings them to their knees. He was the one who left her behind in an effort to make himself worthy of what could be. She was the one who found herself picking up the pieces and letting the fire within her drive her to places beyond what she imagined. They’ve known each other for years, their hearts and their pasts are intertwined at the most basic level, and they have a lot of complicated feelings for one another.

Last Slice of Pie is their second chance at it all. It’s their do over. It’s their hail mary. It’s their last little bite at something more.

This book takes you along with them as they give into their feelings, as they fight to be who they were always destined to become, and as they see if their pasts truly do define them...or if they can make their own happily ever after together.

What I loved about this book is that it combined the best of everything. It is as much of a love story as it is a story about self-discovery and the fight it takes to truly find who you want to be. It is a story about finding oneself and owning the path you want and need to take. It is a story of emotion and heart, and it is filled to the brim with moments that will tug at your heart, bring tears to your eyes, and that will literally take your breath away. It is a story of two characters doing their damndest to make it in a world that wants to tell them who they should be.

And at its core, Last Slice of Pie is a love story.
A beautiful, all-feeling, love story.

It is a love story that will own your heart from start to finish, and will show you what it truly means to have a second chance at it all. What you get with Bryan and Lexi as they journey through their second chance will take ahold of every part of your heart, and will have you knowing with every fiber of your being that these two belong together. Those two might put you and their hearts through some serious challenges, but through it all you will love them, believe in them, and root for them with all that you have.

Kathryn Andrews invests you so wholly in every single slice of them and their love story, and you will love getting to go along for the ride as those two try to figure it all out and see where their second chance takes them.

Lexi and Bryan will give you it all. And then some.

The feels, the laughs, the history and past, the heartache and struggle, the fight and fire, and every bit of connection and pull those have towards one another. Their story is emotional, raw, consuming to say the least, and in the end it will leave you knowing and feeling with all that you have that there is something truly special and remarkable about what they share.

Last Slice of Pie is their story, and it is one that I will truly never forget.

Kathryn Andrews blends the perfect amount of sweetness, heart, emotion, and fire into this story. She created a hero and heroine who I will love forever, and who both personify what it means to put your heart on the line and fight with all that you have. What you get and feel with them along the way in this book will have you celebrating every triumph with them, feeling every low and fall, and will have you pushing right along with them as they face the hurdles that come their way.

Their story is one that I have wanted ever since I met them years ago in The Sweetness of Life. From the first moment I met them, I knew I wanted more, and the more I got with them in this book was truly exceptional and more than I could have asked for. This book gave me it all with them, and showed me again and again what sets this world, this series, and this author’s writing apart from all the rest.

If you are looking for a second chance love story that will deliver it all in the most all-feeling, beautiful, and consuming package, then run yourself to this story faster than Bryan can throw his next touchdown pass.

Last Slice of Pie is hands down one of the best books I have read this year, and I seriously cannot wait to be back in this world to get more of these characters. Kathryn Andrews has once again outdown herself with this book, and I cannot sing her writing praises enough. What she so unforgettably creates in this book will have you in awe of everything you are reading and experiencing.

And in the end, it’s that last slice of pie that will you do you in in the best way with these characters.

So what are you waiting for?

Take that leap. Make the pass. Run that play. Eat the pie.

And enjoy every single word, moment, and second of this amazing book.

It would be wrong not too. And you’d surely be missing out one hell of a book.

A cute, second chance sports romance with sweet characters. Second book in the Starving for Southern series, all about three girls who are in the culinary business, and their relationships with football players. Still a standalone though. Past and present weaved together throughout the story. Writing was great. The recipes included were a great addition to the book. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Like all Kathryn Andrews novels, Last Slice of Pie is the perfect blend of great writing, realistic and well rounded characters, and an engaging plot. The story is every bit as sweet as the title suggests, and follows the lives of Lexi, a sassy baker that operates her Pie business from her idyllic but dilapidated country farm house, and Bryan, a pro football player that puts the perfect in perfectionist. From first page to last, the chain of events that cause their very different lives to intertwine will keep you turning the pages, devouring every last sentence and keeping you hungry for more.

I was pulled right into this story. The story has pain, secrets, and heartbreak.

If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first
The Sweetness of Life (Starving for Southern #1)

This is Lexi and Bryan’s story. Lexi has loved Bryan forever, but he broke her heart years ago and he never even knew it. Bryan has loved Lexi for a long time but wanted his life to be perfect before he came for her. With his life finally where he wants it, he takes a chance to be with her. But they face quite a few obstacles they never thought about and in turn must make some hard decisions. Will he break her heart, or will he hold on to her no matter what comes at them? Is this a forever love or were they just kidding themselves?

I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book.

Lexi loves her life, her business is taking off and she’s got a great group of friends, but the man she’s always loved hasn’t been home for 10 years. You see, she fell in love with him at the age of 10, and when he left for college, he took her heart with him.
Bryan’s always loved Lexi, but his home life was not conducive to learning how to love. His mother was killed by a drunk driver when he was 10 and his stepfather was stuck raising him because he had no other family. His stepfather wasn’t physically abusive, but he was mentally so and it did a huge number on Bryan. When they moved to the little town of Wildwood, FL and moved onto Lexi’s grandmother’s property, Bryan lucked out. He met his best friend and his sister. They showed him what love and family should be like by taking him in and making him part of their little family. At 18, he left for college, then a career in the NFL and didn’t look back, or so Lexi thought. But Bryan did look back, frequently.
This is the love story of a broken man and the woman he’s always loved, but never thought he was good enough for. You feel their pain, you root for them to get together, you want their relationship to work. I love the storyline, the characters, and the writing. An added bonus is the recipe at the end of each chapter. I’ve saved quite a few of them and will be making the cornbread tonight.
This was the first book I’ve read by Ms. Andrews, but it won’t be the last.
**I received an ARC of this story and this is my honest and voluntary review.

5 Sweet, Delicious, Heart Warming Stars!!!

I was given this book in turn for an honest review.

It’s been ten years since Lexi last saw Bryan, ten years of following his career and longing for what could have been. Now Bryan is back, and he’s ready to get his girl, however, is Lexi ready to give him a chance.

Kathryn Andrews has written a beautiful, heartfelt, sweet romance that took my breath away. This story isn’t too fast paced or to slow, it’s perfect; from start to finish I was sucked into Lexi and Bryan’s story; I could feel each and ever emotion they had gone through and were going through. I wanted to hug them more than anything, especially Bryan, his childhood had been far from carefree, and he had more than proven his worth.

It was clear from the beginning how right Lexi and Bryan were for each other, and my heart ached for the time they had wasted apart, although in the end I understood why Bryan had left like he did and as they say, sometimes things happen for a reason.

I loved Lexi’s strength and independence, I loved how she was a home girl and she hadn’t given up her childhood roots. Her passion for Pie was beautiful, this story and Lexi’s enthusiasm for Pie left me more than a little hungry and wanting to try out some of the recipes.

This sweet, contemporary romance is perfect for all romance readers, you will not be disappointed!

I love the premise of the Last Slice of Pie (Starving for Southern #2) and Kathryn Andrews is a new to me author so I was really ready to dig into this story and love it. However, as great as the writing was and the storyline was wonderful, too much inter-dialogue made this a book that I was skimming over quite a bit.

I had mixed feelings about the characters in this book. Lexi came across as an intelligent business woman with a strong sense of home. But when it came to life and particularly, Bryan, it seemed all her sense went out the window.

Bryan, OMG, where to start with this guy. Becomes part of Lexi’s family at a young age, falls in love with Lexi and leaves. 10 years later he shows up, and granted he showed some apprehension, but he just thought Lexi would be his. Only to push her away again.

This book starts out with some really good storytelling, but somewhere along the way it just gets tiresome with the same arguments/discussions over and over. 3 Stars #2OCCMS

Okay, where the heck do I begin... How about the middle. Kathryn made me cry at the oddest part. When you read the story you may think you know when but I can guarantee you it was NOT then. Bryan oh my Bryan... you grabbed my heart and never released it. I felt Lexi pain because, I am yours as well.

Gutted from beginning to end. The hero won this story for me, HANDS DOWN. For some odd reason Kathryn's writing always does that to me. I am normally a "girl power" reader but whenever I read her books I flip. Trust me you will too. The first chapter of Bryan's will en envelope you in a blanket of devotion and remorse. That love will form and will never waiver.

This story holds true to the title. You savor it like that last slice of delicious pie.

This novel is the second novel in the Starving for Southern series. Do not fear however you do not need to read the first one to enjoy this one. It is writen as a stand alone. I stumbled onto this novel thinking it was a stand alone. I did not know it was a series till half way though.
This is a second chance novel , where you follow Lexi and Bryan and their journey back to one another. After being left by Bryan in high school , Lexi is determined to make it on her own. Ten years later, Bryan who is now in the NFL comes back into her life. I adored watching this story unfold and cheeried them on though out. If you love a good second chance novel with a happy ending then this is the novel for you.

Kathryn Andrews's book Last Slice of pie is the first book by her that I have read. I loved reading Lexi and Bryan’s second chance love story. I also loved the recipe links at the end of each chapter, I found they helped connect you to the story and the characters. I look forward to reading more by this author. ~Dawn

Lexi has love Bryan forever, and little does she know Bryan felt the same but he always had something holding him back. But finally Bryan "mans up" and becomes everything to Lexi. This story was a little slower paced, but the storyline was so good, that it didn't matter. ~Jen

I love some sweet romance and Last Slice of Pie did not disappoint. Lexi is sweet, understanding and just great. Bryan is focused on becoming better. They both have waited so long to be with each other and finally when it happens it’s fireworks. I love seeing old friends pop up and the recipes! I’m excited for the next in the series! If you love romance pick up this book!

I'm starting to believe this author might not be for me. It's the second book I pick up and it starts great, but by 30% it fizzles out and I start to lose interest.

The only great thing in this book was the fact that Lexi was a go getter, super hardworking and proud of her little business of pies. Such a cute girl moment, I really liked her driven personality when it came to her work. Her personal life though? Girl needed a wake up call.

He disappears for 10 years, after such a great childhood friendship and she immediately gets involved with him? Without a single justification from him? Girl.

I honestly never believed in their connection because we barely had a glimpse of their past, just a couple of quick flashbacks, not nearly enough to make me want them to be together. Authors need to realize this type of book requires a dual time-line, period. Otherwise, I won't believe it. And again, I'm being told rather than shown something. This was frequent during the entire book, things kept happening of page.

And the MMC was so.. bland. Why now? Why come back after 10 years without a single word? And you want me to believe he loved her the entire time. After the way he treated her because his team and coach starting guessing his abilities? He honestly NEVER deserved Lexi. Boy bye.

Sadly this series it not working for me so far. Great covers though.

This is book #2, in the Starving For Southern series. This story can be read as a standalone novel. For reader enjoyment, and to avoid spoilers, I recommend reading this great series in order.

Lexi is making her way as a small business owner in her small town. She is gaining notoriety for the pies, even though she has always been known for them locally. She has been in love with Bryan all her life, but he does not seem to know she exists anymore. He has not been home in a decade.

Bryan is trying to outrun a past filled with pain and heartache. The best way to do that is to stay away. Football is the one thing he does right, and he does well. It has made him well known and feel as if he is deserving of Lexi. The questions is if he does something about it how will she respond?

This was such an amazing story! Filled with a slow burn, it was like a match lit early on and then somewhere along the way caused the heat to just explode! I loved reading about these characters and their journey. Both very rich and compelling characters as people, watching from my view felt like a privilege. Their book was honestly really good and I could not put this one down.

I didn't read the first book in the series cause I really wanted to read this one and didn't particularly want to read that one (I'm pointing it out cause it's pretty out of character for me).

Spoilers ahead
I liked the book overall. The writing was well done, the story was really cute, with Lexi having her own pie filling/making business and Bryan being an accomplished football player.

I guess what I disliked most was that the story created things and never dealt with them, fully. Like it feels like Bryan and Lexi never fully hash out and process why Bryan ghosted Lexi. He didn't talk to her, write, acknowledge her at all for 10 years after being a close friend for 10 years and she doesn't need an actual explaination? And then, he's a douchebag to her during the book right after the game and same, she just comes back, takes his little apology and that's it?

I was so frustrated while reading this. I cried a bunch and this is usually a good thing but this time they were literal tears of frustration. I couldn't bare how little Bryan seemed to care how Lexi must've felt in the past.

I also hated that he seemed to offer no type of reassurance about the Jinx thing? After everything, he just didn't talk to her about it, just let it fester in her mind.

And I disliked how it wasn't clear whether Bryan's step father was violent physically or only emotionnally? It's never explained and Bryan doesn't talk about it with Lexi over much.

Yeah, one work to describe this book? Fustrating. It had great potential but I couldn't get past Bryan's seeming lack of willingness to communicate and Lexi's ability to just forgive without getting an explanation.

So sweet, sexy, sad, AND uplifting!

Lexi and Bryan grew up together. She with a family and love, he with a stepdad that didn't want him. But, James and Lexi and Gigi would become the family Bryan didn't have...problem being, he never felt worthy. Que leaving early for college without a word and never looking back for ten years.

These two are both strong as well as independent and yet, both are very vulnerable. Both alone in their own way. Together they are strong but, Bryan's own self doubt may just cause it all to slip away...after he just got Lexi back.

This book was a roller coaster ride of emotion. I loved the friendships created in this book and I loved the excitement of the football games as well as the fresh opportunities (amidst all the bad luck on the homeowner front!) that came Lexi's way for her business. Even with all the sadness of the past, this book was still uplifting and heartwarming. Looking forward to reading the third book.

well written but…

Ok, I seriously think there should have been some kind of semblance of groveling from the MMC. He literally left her for 10 years, never said good bye and never contacted her. Then after 10 years he just shows up and says “I’m sorry” once and that’s it. He then proceeds to do nothing with her that is special, they go on one date in 2 1/2 months but text and talk all the time, which you don’t see, they only talk about. They don’t really have a lot of interactions that say “I have been in love with you for 10 years” and I will make up for that time away. It’s just basic interactions. She does all the heavy lifting and then he drops her and again “football is his true love” and she once again goes out of her way to make it to a game of his where all he says is “sorry”. And everything isn’t ok per se but he needed to do a bit more for all that he had done to her. He did the minimum.

I really love this author's style. The pacing, story and characters were all good. She writes so nicely. It's so easy to read.

For me the main challenge and why I didn't go with 5 stars was that Lex just forgave him way too easily. There was no challenge, no holding him to account.

Also this Zach character seems to be important but having not read the first one it kind of didn't feel stand alone.

There are a few errors and given its been out for a while I feel it should have been fixed.

OMG OMG OMG I can not get over how much I love Lexi and Bryan ❤️ There is genuinely something so amazing and heart warming with these two that I’m obsessed over. Also who doesn’t love food and the fact that all the books in this series have recipes after every chapter is the cherry on top( pun intended).

This seemed sweet, but Lexi pining for someone for 10 years without any reciprocation was a no-go for me. I prefer my heroines to be less passive observers in their lives.

Opposite’s Attract

Bryan and Lexie are opposites in every way but one, their love for each other. Their road to happiness has many stumbling blocks. Eventually they will survive them all.

A sweet childhood friends to lovers story. This is a fantastic series that revolves around food and how it really brings people together. Recipes are also sprinkled all throughout the book. Made me want to cook.

The Sweetest

Beautiful blending of lives. Knowing each in their youth and one always keeping feelings hidden or at least in trying, the other to afraid to let anyone in. Both dedication for their work and work ethics but finding that piece of themselves to complete that pie.
