For the five Reeves women, nothing is more important than keeping their family bond tight and their communication flowing. But honesty isn't so clear cut when it could blow up everything they've fought tobuild . . .
Already reeling from betrayal, middle sister Coco is fed up with lies--including her own. If she has her way, someone else's neck needs to be on the line for a change. But soon, Coco's in deep trouble with the law, her future hanging in the balance. . . . Now the only thing that can save her is revealing one last devastating truth.
Struggling with unthinkable loss, Coco's sister, Burgundy, finds comfort in a colleague's arms. But her eight-year-old daughter wants no part of him. She wants the life she enjoyed when her father was alive. As Burgundy fights to move on from the shocking tragedy of her marriage, she seeks a silver lining. And against all odds, she wants herself and all her sisters to win. In spite of secrets, lies, deception, and hurt, she will do whatever it takes to support and empower her family. Even if it means risking everything that's important to her.
Now between revenge, grief, and forgiveness, these siblings will challenge themselves--and all they think they know about each other--in a showdown that may leave them united--or cause them to forever fall apart . . .
Praise for A Sister's Secret "Clever. Compelling. Captivating." --RT Book Reviews
Basically I became interested in becoming a writer after reading Terry McMillan’s novel Disappearing Acts. In 2004 my author dreams were realized via the release of my controversial debut novel My Daughter’s Boyfriend, the story of a 34-year old single mother that becomes attracted to her teenage daughter’s boyfriend.
I love writing about marriage, infidelity, juicy love triangles, family, romance, women's issues, and male/female relationships. It never gets boring to write about what human beings go through.
My novels make you think and feel! If it doesn't do that, I haven't done my job.
My novels/interviews have been featured in USA Today, Black Beat Magazine, Publishers Weekly, Jewel Magazine, Today's Black Woman, Vibe Vixen, Quarterly Black Review, Booking Matters Magazine, Essence magazine, Ebony magazine, Black Expressions Book Club, among others.
A Sister’s Power is the third novel in the Reeves Sisters series by Cydney Rax. Though this book is part of a series, the backstory is interwoven in a manner that made this a decent standalone.
A Sister’s Power is a tale about difficult familial relationships. This novel continues the story of the five Reeves sisters. Alita, the eldest and nosiest, has ongoing financial struggles and is insecure in her relationship with her boyfriend. Burgundy, the entrepreneurial sibling, is starting a new relationship that is frowned upon by her eight-year-old daughter, who just wants her deceased father back. Coco, the wild and wayward sister, struggles with betrayal and her rapidly worsening problems with the law. Drucilla, fondly known as Dru, is intelligent and level-headed, but struggles with feelings of inadequacy and deteriorating health, while attempting to finish her college education and kickstart her dream business. Elyse, the youngest and most vulnerable, is still struggling to deal with her difficult childhood and her newly defined romantic relationship. The sisters are constantly battling life and each other. There are secrets, dramas and betrayals yet to be revealed.
Cydney Rax finishes this series perfectly. The characters are now completely developed and utterly believable. The plot twists are still dramatic and unexpected. The writing is wholly insightful. I was enraptured and enjoyed every aspect of this final novel and the series as a whole. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to those who enjoy dramatic urban fiction.
My thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However, the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone.
The Reeves Sister’s and all of their drama, secrets, and lies has came to an end and was wrapped up with a pretty bow for us. Each sister has their own personal issues and then family issues they have to deal with which has lead to more secrets, drama and lies that a family should have to endure. A Sister’s Power reveals all the answers to the questions we have been asking and wow some were not what I was expected.
I usually love children in books but I really wanted to snatch Natalia a couple of times, I am old school and believe children should stay out of grown folks conversations and stay in a child’s place unless asked for their opinion. I did feel like the story had some unnecessary fluff but was still an overall good book. I was really hoping one of the sisters was drama free, but hey we all know how it goes. That last plot twist I was not expecting at all . It was a great end to the series and I am looking forward to seeing what this author has in store next.
This is the third book in the Reeves sister series. I did not read the first two books but was able to get the jest of the sisters’ story from the author’s description of the backstory. Since this is the final book of the series, the book starts out with each of the sisters going through a struggle/dilemma. By the end, the sisters have resolution.
One thing that bothered me about the novel was the child character, Natalia. She was too grown for me. The way this character is presented on page is a testament to Ms. Rax writing ability because she is able to make me have a strong dislike for a child.
Overall, this was a pleasant reading experience. I do think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read the first 2 books.
I was given the opportunity to review an advanced copy of this book via NetGalley.
I came away feeling like Burgundy and her sisters need therapy and possibly some Jesus. In real life I'm against corporal punishment but Burgundy's daughter is one of those kids who make me understand why someone might reach for a belt. She was just way too much.
I really wanted to like this story but it dragged and seemed kind of all over the place. I gave it 4 stars for the premise and the promise. It just didn't deliver for me personally.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review from Netgalley.

The Reeves sisters are back in this I'm assuming final installment of the series. Alita, Burgandy, CoCo, Dru and Elise are dealing with all kinds of messes and have to figure out how to get themselves out of it. The author truly wrote the heck out of these characters, especially Burgandy's 8 year old. I wanted to snatch her little self way too many times throughout the story. This book was just as good and exciting as book 1. It took me through all kinds of emotions and had my emotions all over the place. As with previous books from this author, there is all kinds of drama and secrets. A great ending to the series.
This third book was very slow. It seems as though the author just dragged this story out. It took days to finish because it became quite boring. I wanted to just get to the secrets. This series only needed two parts. I did enjoy the first one very much.
A Sister’s Power is the third book in The Reeves Sisters saga. Since I have not read the prior books, I am reading this as a standalone novel. Although I found this to be an enjoyable read, I must admit that I wondered throughout if I could have gotten more from the story if I had read the previous books. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book.
I wanted to love this book. I bought it at the book store because the cover caught my eye. This book wasn’t good. At times it seemed like the author was trying to cram too much in and the book just didn’t flow. And other times there wasn’t enough information and the story didn’t make sense. The book was just all over the place. This is the first book I’ve read from this author and I understand there’s a series of books. I don’t think I’ll bother reading any of the others.
Whew! What can I say but...I AM SO GLAD TO BE FINISHED WITH THIS SERIES! I think these are the most worst written stories I have ever read. The conversation between the adults in the books are not cohesive. The dramatic ideas would have been great if the author had taken time to develop the story. Instead, it feels rushed and thrown together. And Coco's confession at the end....just so unnecessary and just why! Even the dialogue with the children seems a bit too much. Just glad to be done!
Well, I’ve finally finished the series and I couldn’t be more satisfied. After all the emotions this book put me through 😭, I’m glad it ended the way it did. What a great way to finish the series. Now I’m wondering what my next Cydney Rax read will be!
I wish I could read the entire series again for the first time. Everything about it was emotionally complex and beautiful. Complete with scenes that either filled me with rage or triggered a tearful symphony of raw emotion as I reflected on how I saw glimpses of my story within the pages.
Cydney Rax has written another great novel. You will get caught up in the lives of the Sisters like they were your own. Loved this book just like all the others by Cydney. Thanks!
Finally finished this last book in the series and I am tired! This whole series was a whole lotta lotta! Lol These sisters had so many secrets. The whole story was kinda weird to me but I felt like the author pulled it off. I want to read another book by her to really see her writing style.
