I enjoyed this simple and straightforward read on theology. It was definitely an introduction - and while the author's bias definitely showed through - I appreciated the way he attempted to present the various viewpoints on an issue. I'd recommend this book to someone looking for a quick and understandable introduction to the major areas of.Christian theology.
This book was written with an American protestant audience in mind. If that's what you are looking for it is a great starting guide. Pretty much think of it as a dummy's guide. It gives you an outline of the big principles and that's about it. If you are looking for something more detailed I suggest finding a different book.
The book does what it states. Gives you common understanding. If you want something more in detail this is not it. Great for new believers or as a refresher.
If you want to dig into Christian theology and learn more, but you're not ready for a long, academic volume, then Daryl Aaron's "Christian Theology for People in a Hurry" is exactly what you're looking for.
Aaron's treatment of the basics of theology includes a definition of theology and goes on to systematically address the Bible, God, created beings and sin, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, salvation, the church, and the last things and heaven. It's theology in a nutshell--the most important things you need to know, expressed in an easily understandable way for the normal, everyday person and not an academic. The chapters are concise, easily readable and yet filled with an abundance of knowledge. Theologically sound and trustworthy, this handbook is a great addition to anyone's library.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for this honest review. The opinons expressed are my own.
