There are lots of sleepy animals to wake up in this bouncy, energetic picture book. Lift the flaps, then hop with the little bunnies, cheep with the chicks, baa with the lambs and mew with the kittens. An interactive book, full of non-stop fun, based on the popular nursery rhyme 'Sleeping Bunnies'. This is full of the joys of spring and the perfect Easter gift. From the illustrator of the bestselling We're Going on an Egg Hunt.
In rhyming, repetitive text, this bedtime book rounds the farm, waking each group of animals who have slept until NOON -- bunnies, lambs, chicks, kittens, and ducklings! Every other page spread had liftable flaps watch the animals go from sleeping to waking up. Finally at the end of the book, the animals have been up playing all day long. And now it's time to sing them a happy bedtime song so they can go back to sleep. The artwork was created with watercolors and ink.

Characters were well illustrated and adorable to sound out. However, the plot line was quite confusing to say the least… the bunnies go through all the work waking up the different animals to come and play, only to go to sleep on the last page? The transition from being woken up to going back to sleep was sudden and jarring. I wanted more action to be honest, maybe give me a page about them playing or dancing and having a merry time. It left me wanting to know more about how they spent their awake time and feeling quite unsatisfied.
This adorable lift-the-flap picture book was inspired by the “Sleeping Bunnies” nursery rhyme, so it is perfect for either reading or singing aloud. My two-year-old son loved lifting the flaps on each page to wake the various sleeping animals. Hop Little Bunnies is beautifully illustrated and sure to capture your little one’s attention because of the sing-songy nature of the text. I would recommend it primarily for one-on-one reading sessions or small groups sessions that way each child gets to experience the lift-the-flap actions firsthand. Perfect for all your Easter, Springtime, or farm animal storytime themes.
A board book retelling of the sleeping bunnies nursery rhyme and song. I appreciate that this does not have the "are they ill" line, which feels a bit more problematic in pandemic times, but it also doesn't seem to quite get the rhythm right. Perhaps I'm too used to the recorded music versions instead of the original rhyme. I keep singing a few extra lines and hops as I read the book. While there is nothing stellar here, if the rhythm works for you, this would be fine for a storytime, particularly with its emphasis on animal sounds.
I absolutely adore the Sleeping Bunnies nursery rhyme and Mumford provides the song for bunnies and other various farm animals. Other than the interactive lift-the-flaps as you wake up the animals, there was nothing that made it stand out and the illustrations were fine.
