Got this for a friends kid. It’s pretty cute. I thought they needed some outside the the box books to spice things up. Now he kisses the book all the time!!! Whatever works right! The illustrations are cute. It’s an average board book. 3 stars.

I wanted this to be good. It isn't. Rowan has a good enough time, because there's Gene Simmons's tongue and some fire, but that's not exactly the point of the book.

You'd think "A Book about Colors" wouldn't be so bad at identifying colors. When your "RED stage" page features a stage awash in yellow and gold light, with a little red in the background, you're, uh, not doing a good job at all. The stage is literally not even a little bit red. "YELLOW electric guitar" that's mostly shades of orange and gold with a little yellow in the middle? Fail. "TAN drum sticks" and "GOLD cymbals" are pretty weak offerings that, sure, are tan and gold I guess. But you couldn't find any other colors relating to drums and percussion?

It's all weirdly incoherent and unclear, with such a strangely narrow choice of colors. It's just a really bad book. A shame, because you could absolutely make a great KISS book about colors. This, however, is not it. Two stars because Rowan did seem to think it was okay, but if it were just me: one star.

Teach your baby neutral colors with KISS.
I wanna rock 'n roll all night, but with more colors.

Highlights: My son really enjoys the pink tongue page because he sticks out his tongue to match. There's some good music related vocabulary like amplifiers and cymbals.

Lowlights: Green and blue don't exist except on the cover. Most of the pictures only have about 20% of the color mentioned.

my dad tried to get me to like this band by playing them and talking about how cool they were every time we went on a road trip. it didn't particularly work. now, parents who want to indoctrinate their children into liking the same bands can start them even younger, when their brains are more malleable and yet their ears too sensitive to listen to loud rock n' roll.

This is Korbin's favorite book from the library. We have read and reread this book so many times! He would definitely recommend this to all the other two year-olds!

Hello, friends! Our books today are Baby Bowie and Baby KISS, the first two books in the Baby Rocker series, illustrated by Pintachan.

Each of these sturdy board books uses its subject to explore a toddler-friendly topic. In Baby KISS, illustrated colors, a classic topic for this age group; Baby Bowie takes a look at adjectives. Using simple illustrations with bright colors, and focusing on some of each artist’s most recognizable trademarks (KISS’s face paint, Bowie’s evolving personas, etc) to bring life to their topics.

Man, I really wanted to like these more than I did. The idea is solid – a board book for fans of these glam rock artists to share with their kiddos while teaching them valuable language basics. Sounds great! And for fans, there are some really cool nods: Gene Simmons’ axe bass guitar to illustrate “Silver” or Bowie’s eyepatch-wearing “Halloween Jack” persona to demonstrate “Spiky” hair. The problem is, the books often fail to lay out these concepts in a way in which very young children can connect to visually. The colors listed in KISS are, more often than not, opposite a page that features a rainbow of colors with little visual focus on the one being illustrated; example, a “Red” stage, flanked by bright purple curtains and awash with orange and yellow spot- and footlights, each with equal visual space. In Bowie, many of the adjectives are ones that cannot be shown in illustration (“Loud Guitar”), or could have been, but surprisingly were not (“Shiny Lightning Bolt” or “Sparkly Stars” on matte pages). All in all, these books seem to be made more to pay service to adult fans of these artists, and have far less function as educational titles. It’s disappointing, because this could have been a really neat concept, but it feels badly executed. JJ enjoyed the illustrations, and I enjoyed the references as a fan, but as board books go, these could have been done better, and there are already titles out there that have. Fans of Bowie and KISS should check them out, but otherwise, pass on these.

The idea was wonderfully original, but I would have liked to see all of the members of the group getting equal page amounts.
