A brand new teacher at the local primary school, a woman taking care of her mum’s book store, two hearts who believe that love and relationships aren’t for them.
Kara moves to her favourite island following the job offer of a lifetime, become a teacher at the only primary school the island has. It’s like a dream come true, live on the island, go on long walks with her dog Tys and teach, all in one neat package. But when she spots the beautiful woman at the local book store, things might get a bit more complicated.
Taking care of her mum’s store for a few months is exactly what Lin needs. A couple of months away from her old life and to become a face in the crowd at one of the island’s stores. Speaking fluently in three languages may not be her best skill, but keeping track of inventory and doing stock is definitely right up her street. Her first week at the store has almost come to an uneventful ending, until a stunning woman walks into the store and smiles her way.
Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and when Kara comes in for crafting supplies to make cards with her class, Lin makes a bold offer. How hard can it be to spend an afternoon making cards with a group of kids when she has no experience with teaching or making cards? There’s no way Kara will find out, right?

This is the second book in the series and it was just as good as the first. The characters are so real with their emotions and how they handled them. Although they think they have nothing in common they are so much alike. I am so looking forward to the next book. I recommend this series if you like sweet romance stories
I am gonna be honest and I apologize. First off the idea for this book was great. A small town, lesbian teacher book store owner sign me up!
After that things just felt wrong. The chemistry was not there, the writing at times felt young and the character development wasn’t really there. It also does have quite to many cliches for my liking.
Two women on an island starting their lives over, what are the chances that cupid’s arrow could find them?
Kara has been looking for a permanent teaching job for a while and a semi-permanent position has opened up on the island. She is beyond excited. This is a real chance for her to get away from her life and get her head straight. Time for her and her dog to just walk the beaches, play, and teach.
Lin’s mother needed her to watch the bookstore while she takes care of her aunt who had surgery. Lin is more than happy to get away from her life in the city. She is not really comfortable with people, but they come in and leave quickly. They do not stay. She gets to read. There is a routine within the process she can settle into.
Then Kara walks into the bookstore needing craft supplies. Two people who are not ready for a relationship suddenly find themselves saying and doing things they would not normally do.
Emily Engberts really does write cute romances and A Card for Valentine’s Day (B07NDX234V, 2019) is no different. Kara and Lin are awkward and funny in their courtship which makes it fun to read. I relate to Lin as I am very similar so I found her responses to be the funniest because I probably would have done the same things.
Engberts gives her characters depth by giving them a characteristic which makes them human - no one is a cookie cutter character. I find this very refreshing in her writing. Her characters are people that you can relate to because you probably know someone like them.
The romances she writes gives you hope that even those of us with perceived imperfections can find love and usually with a touch of humor. Get yourself A Card for Valentine’s Day. ✶✶✶✶
I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
Kara is over the moon when she gets appointed as a teacher on her favourite spot in the world - a small island she spent many happy hours with her friends. She finds a quaint little book/stationary shop, manned by a young woman - Lin. The story accompanies the couple from their first meeting to finally finding a solution on how to stay together long-term. A nice, well-written story, not very eventful but entertaining, nonetheless. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
