Weiqi is a scientist with an explorer's spirit. Holding a Ph.D. from the University of Oxford, he embarked on an enlightening sojourn across Europe that led him not just through laboratories, but also into the realm of imagination. Setting foot on American soil, he began his U.S. journey in Rhode Island before an epic cross-country expedition to Stanford University. There, he immersed himself in complex data science projects alongside the NIH (National Institutes of Health).

His blend of scientific curiosity and quiet fascination with the magical led him to a unique hypothesis: the hidden intersections between science and magic. He invites you to consider unexplained phenomena—like ball-lightning—that linger at the fringes of our scientific understanding, nudging us towards a sense of wonder and openness.

It is this nuanced perspective that Weiqi Wang pours into his enchanting series, Code of Rainbow. This world is a harmonious blend of magic and science, breaking new ground by inviting us to reimagine the boundaries between the two. Primarily tailored for young readers, the narrative unveils its scientific underpinnings progressively, ensuring it captivates a broad audience. Dr. Wang’s work subtly coaxes us into seeing the awe in both magic and science, inviting readers of all ages to join an extraordinary adventure that both entertains and enlightens.

Great follow up!

Code of Rainbow book 2 takes up where book one left off. The kids in the school for magic experience so much craziness! Pre-teens will love this series with magic animals that bond with the students, magic lessons, greed, treachery, and teamwork! Great fun!

Things get serious

A great second book. I have to say I enjoyed this book even more than the first book. In the first book, it was about introducing Soarame to the world of magic and his friends but he was still a novice, or an Adapt. In this book, he has matured and levelled up even more and even grown emotionally.

Soarame is now famous in and out of the magical community. Already progressing faster than his peers and gaining a reputation, however, some teachers keep him humble. Now he must face real-world challenges and enemies beyond his imagination. He will also learn more about his friend, masters and enemies. Will Soarame have the "faith" to achieve the destiny that masters expect from him or will he bring destruction to those around him?

It is always the mark of a great book as soon as I finished this I wanted to read the next one. I want more. The mix of scientific elements and magic is amazing. I think a bit of martial arts philosophy mixed in as well. This series his awesome.

Soarame is busy learning all he can at school so that he can become an Expert wizard and start to uncover some of the secrets in his life. But when a threatening message appears, he realizes Rodka, who already graduated and left, is in danger. Soarame and his friends are determined to help, even though they can't leave campus. Magic can do many things . . .

I really liked this. The beginning is a bit rough, as it's not immediately obvious there was a timeskip from the previous book, so I was a bit confused at how much farther along everyone was. But I soon settled in for an enjoyable ride.

Soarame has grown up some, and so have his friends. There's little hints of romance here and there, although both Soarame and the girl he likes are terminally shy and unable to make the first move. The Dragons and Empires team he was dreaming about in the previous book is now a reality, as his magic has advanced enough to make him capable of playing in more than a practice match.

I liked Eric, too. He's a new addition to Soarame's group of friends and his team---the missing Darkness player that Halgon should've been, if Halgon were there. Like many of Soarame's friends, he's got his own share of secrets. As with Halgon, the revelation of those secrets casts an interesting light on all of his earlier actions.

The magimals remain as cute and funny as ever. They're still pretty young, but they're big enough to help out more. I also liked seeing the wild ones, although I imagine taming a wild one might be more successful if you didn't approach them with demands to basically become slaves. They are intelligent enough to see that as a very bad idea.

Overall this was another excellent story, and I can't wait for the third book to be released.

Magic here, magic

The characters, the concept of magic and their lineages... these are amazing! I’m looking forward to see how Soarame level up to a Master, maybe even going into to a Halfgod status. These books are worth the time to read! (Clean and interesting for younger ages as well.)

Fantastic imaginative story about magic

I enjoy the imagination and fantasy of this magic realm. In the previous review I compared Code of the Rainbow to JRR Tolkien Middle Earth series but since reading the second book in this series it's more of the Harry Potter series.

The characters are intriguing, unique, relatable, and complex and their personalities. As story progresses the depths of the characters changes their personalities becomes more evolved. The drama is endless as the imagination of the author.

Just to say I could not put this book down is an understatement. There's drama and descriptive scenarios that the reader must put the book down just to absorb it all in small doses. I find myself reading the book late into the night and being forced to sleep. And that is saying a lot.

I highly recommend this book and eagerly wait the third book in the series.

Soarame's Resurgers, a Dragons and Empires team, needed a good darkness player. Halgon, the teams darkness player, had left due to injury and the spot was being kept open in hopes of his return. This brought about most of the chalenges faced by Soarame and his friends. Soarame meets these challenges but is greatly deceived by a new friend. He learns a lot about trust, friendship love and loneliness.
this was a hard book to put down. It is well written. After it is finished, you don't realize how you lost yourself in the story. I can't wait for the third book to be published

Super 5 star book! Ancient Barons and the Returned Assassin (Code of Rainbow, #2) by Weiqi Wang is wonderful. The story line is exceptional and the "science" of magic Wang has created is superb! Book 3 is to be released shortly. I'll be first in line to get it.

I was given a copy of this book by the author and am voluntarily posting an honest review.

This is a series you don't want to miss .

A different take on the training of wizards. I had trouble putting it down. I'm disappointed that he left shower and hope that shower and Halgon have roles in the coming books.

Great read

If you enjoy magic, cultivation and coming of age tales this is a great read. I enjoyed the main character and the fact that he struggles with killing Beasts even when he is attacked first. If you want to see a great character with character then check out this story.

Amazing story

After reading the 1st book I couldn’t wait for this one. It did not disappoint. The magic school was like no other, typical bullies and challenging adventures. I couldn’t put it down and I read it in 3 days. Good stuff. Waiting patiently for book 3.

Another great story

So far it's been a series can't wait for the next one tho I wouldn't say it's similar to HP just because of the wands and school lol. I would say it's more similar to Chinese series I read a few months back that I loved!

Awesome!!!!

Soarame inspires me...with his lack of knowledge yet dense mind ocean he fearlessly levels up through intense and secret practicing of his elements. A great read...can hardly wait for book 3.

*I was given a copy of this book by the publisher in exchange for my fair and honest review.*

Code of Rainbow Book 2 by Weiqi Wang, promises a bit more of an enjoyable read then Book 1. Some of the issues I had with Book 1 have been corrected, some still continue and the authors quest on fusing fantasy and science is still a long way off.

Code of Rainbow Book 2 takes a slight time jump and we are back with Soarame and his group of friends, some old and some new, still reeling from the events in the previous book. The book quickly throws the group a curve ball when they receive a threatening message indicating that one of Soarame's friends who has now since graduated, Rodka, might be in serious danger. With this new information coming to light, Soarame has to decide whether to continue his education and get even closer to find out about his family, or try and save his friend. But decisions are not all Soarame has to worry about. Someone has been watching him and his group of friends. But why?

The second in the Code of Rainbow series is definitely a huge step in the right direction from it's awkward predecessor. The characters are given more depth and have gotten older. Not sure if the author was not good at writing characters younger, or just didn't know how. But he did a much better job, and I felt I could empathize and relate now to most of the characters. The world building is still lacking. The writer has all the info, anyone who reads the first book fell under siege at the beginning of the first book with a ton of information. The Author didn't build on it in the first, but why not the second? Plenty of time to do it and all of the materials have been provided. What's the hold up?!
There is a slight time jump in the second book, which the author did not provide the reader with any hints of this, which made the beginning a bit confusing and this takes away from the story. A slight heads up is all we would have needed, nothing to takeaway from the story.
There is some blood and language in this book that at first caught me off guard. But the characters are now slightly older so it's appropriate, but maybe the author should have thought about this when writing these books. Adding a bit of profanity and a bit more blood during the battle would not have been inappropriate in the first book, but he instead wrote a very family friendly book. Now, when the author decides to add more adult elements to the second book, he could face the problem of alienating some fans of his due to age, parenting preferences, or some people just prefer a bit more of a wholesome read. Now what he added in Book 2 was very limited and he did not overuse it. But if you want to appeal to a certain genre and age group, then stay in the lines. This could be detrimental in the long run.
The magic is fun in this book, even more so and the Magimals are still adorable and fun, still growing up! There is also a hint of romance that is introduced and I have a feeling this is going to be a bit of a slow burn, which is a preference of mine.

Weiqi Wang delivers more magic and adventure in Book 2 of his Code of Rainbow series. He is still dealing with some author growing pains, but did improve significantly from the first book. And the always burning question of can the author combine science to support fantasy? I'm still not convinced, but there is still one more book to be read. Again, we will have to wait and see.

I read this book immediately after the first one. It is much improved and you can feel the author seemed to have got up to speed. Because there is less explaining necessary the writing is more fluid. It starts right away with a bang. There were twists which I did not anticipate, and there was a whole lot of wild magimal battles did feel a bit ambivalent about those in so much as I feel a little sympathy for wild creatures that defend themselves, but the action was excellent. The stakes keep raising, and the whole of this book was quite a compelling read. I'm not yet entirely a fan of the level/levelling up but the rest of the system of magic in this world is very neat and transcends into excellent where Soarame grapples with the secrets inside the ring he is given.

It has been a couple years since the last book. Soarame and his friends have grown. Things that were alluded to in the first book are now a reality and overall Soarame’s world is progressing nicely. But then the friends receive a threatening note regarding Rodka, who has graduated. Soarame wants to go save Rodka but he also wants to finish his schooling and learn more about his family.

I liked how we see the friends a few years older. I admit a note in the story would have made this transition a lot more smoothly. I enjoyed catching up with Soarame and his friends and seeing how things have changed since we last saw them. Of course now we can dive into the story more and it is clear that this book is not as innocent as the first book with more language and bloody fighting.

I do have to say that I like the magic elements; this is a fresh take on magic. I do like the combination of science and magic although it still feels a little rough. I loved seeing the Dragons and Empires idea coming to life in this book.

This is a great continuation of the series although I recommend reading them in order. I don’t think you would have a hard time jumping into this story but there is so much more to this book when you read it as a series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.
