“This is your ex. I’m calling because I have to, not because I want to.”
Olivia was my high school sweetheart. But then things between us eventually turned sour. Now fate has brought her curvy body back into my life. She still hates me for being a cocky football player. I tell myself I hate her too, for being opinionated and stubborn. And that there’s no time for an instant replay of our hot and cold relationship. I have a comeback to make in my career, and a Superbowl to win. But I can’t resist those soulful eyes and that feisty laugh I fell in love with long ago.
Now I want to re-claim what’s been mine all along. Even though she’s adamant that she’s super over me.
This is a full-length standalone romance novel. Jamie Knight promises to always bring you a happy ever after filled with plenty of heat. And never any cheating or cliffhangers!
I am voluntarily reviewing an ARC Copy of this book, this is a solid 3.5 🌟🌟🌟.
This author can be a little hit or miss for me but on this occasion it was a hit. It’s a book about second chances not only in love but in life too.
Olivia Phillips is finally where she wants to be in her life although her love life is not what she wanted or ever thought it would be her professional life is just how she wants it. As a kindergarten teacher she adores her students although one of them seems to be having a difficult time and no one is more shocked than Olivia to discover her father is her high school sweetheart Marvin Ward the one man she has never been able to get over. When they meet again it’s clear that they still share chemistry and a love that has never dissipated. Could they really give their love another shot and how will Kylie feel about it all.
Marvin Ward the falling star quarterback of the New York Leviathans, he has lost the passion for the game and recently is in more trouble for his conduct during the games than his performance. Being in the middle of a custody battle with the mother of his child who can’t choose between drugs or her child most of the time. Marvin feels like he is drowning in failure and now that Olivia is back in his life all he can think of is the what if’s! Seeing Olivia again has given him a reason to fight and now he is fighting for his career, his child and to reclaim the one woman he never should have let get away.
I really did enjoy this book although I may have a few bug bears with it, Kylie was a great character but the editing could do with a little work and some of the names of the children changed in Olivia’s class as the book progressed. I think it’s worth a read in my opinion it was fast paced and maybe a little rushed towards the end but still a fun read.
This was terrible. All the 5 stars must have been bought because there is no way we were reading the same thing. ( how much were you paid? We want to know) The male lead is a stupid ego manic who doesn't understand the concept of removing trash from his life before it starts stinking and the female lead is a closet narsiccist with a shitty choice in friends. Character development was nonexistent and it physically hurt to finish this book. There were chunks of inner monologue that just weren't needed and added to the drag and situations that were so unbelievable they wouldn't be out of place in a fantasy book. The title of the book shouldn't have clued me into the clusterf**k I'd end up with. This should be a hard pass.
Okay. Girl. Too. Much. Detail. Find a better editor or edit yourself more. I felt like I could take the book edit it down and it would flow so much better. It feels so chunky and disjointed that it makes the story feel so much longer and excessive and than it has to be.
Read this if you have nothing (nothing!) else to read. Otherwise skip this.
My English suck but am not an author it would be nice to hire editer before publishing. I didn't like mc not even together yet as a couple until 80% into the book. I understand the built up but is to slow and boring for my taste. I almost DNF
I can’t with Olivia. Literally every other sentence she brings up Marvin - it’s as if the only reason she exists is for him, and frankly I find it pathetic.
I gave up reading this mess at 45%. I wouldn't even call it reading. This book is a mess. It's mostly internal dialogue, there isn't a single admirable character, and it was hard to follow. I wanted to like this book, and wanted to give it a chance but it took me just as long to read what little I did as it takes me to read a book twice the size. Again, I wasn't even reading, but skimming. I don't understand the good reviews.
I tried so hard to get into this book, but just couldn't. The book just didn't flow. Olivia had no depth, and Marvin was just an a**hole. The sex scenes were the worst! I'm all about hot and steamy, but these scenes were pornish and just not believable. I was shocked to see that people gave it 5 stars. This was my first book by this author, and it will be my last!
This book really made my day brighter. Jamie Knight has given us a little gem with her book Super Over You. I found the main characters to be relatable and that there was real depth when it came to them as people. Jamie's plot was well thought out. Truthfully while I was reading this book it felt like this could be a true story.
Marvin is a single Dad with a washed up football career. Olivia is a school teacher and his daughter Kylie is one of her students. These two walked away from each other when they were younger and have regretted it ever since. Kylie is a beautiful little girl who needs people to understand why she behaves the way she does and to be heard. Roxanne is Olivia's best friend and has always been able to read her like a book and keeps it real. Sasha is Kylie's crazy Nanny who really only cares about herself. Candy is Kylie's mom who can't get her life together so she can be there for her daughter. Marvin's dad David and him don't have a really good relationship. There is a lot of resentment, but as Kylie's grandfather he has really stepped-up to being there when it matters. Sandra is David's wife and Marvin's stepmom who really brings peace to their lives.
I think this is a book anyone over 18 would really enjoy reading because it is original and entertaining at the same time.
Olivia is a school teacher that longs for a family of her own. She is really involved with her students so when one little girl acts out she knows she needs to speak to the parents. However what she didn't count on was for her ex to be the father. Marvin has never forgotten Olivia and its always been a regret of his that they ended like they did. He is stunned when he learns that she is his daughter's teacher. Sparks fly between them when they discuss his daughter's behavior and even though they try to keep it professional its hard to keep it that way. When Marvin's ex tries for custody he ends up asking Olivia for help at the hearing. Will they be able to reconnect and move towards a future together? Will Marvin get custody of his daughter?
This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend it to any book lover.
Wow, I feel like I wasn't reading the same book as a lot of people. Because no way, no how was this more than a star. Barely that. This was an angry read, where I was yelling at the characters more often than not, and was actually looking forward to some sort of catharsis venting here afterwards. Yeah, that sort of read.
The leads - Olivia and Marvin. Two of the most immature, selfish people I've ever read. I can't even begin to list out all the things about them that were just... well, the acts and attitudes of horribly immature, selfish people. They never moved past high school in soooo many ways, more than just their inability to move past their high school romance. Olivia kept talking about hating Marvin and what a horrible break-up it was. Their break-up? He did Exactly. What. She. Asked. Their discussion led to them deciding that they were going on different paths, at different points in their lives, however you want to describe it. So, a fairly mutual split, as they each described it at different points in the story. Yet, she is so angry at him, trying to hate him for what - listening to her??? He's not a mind-reader, sweetheart! Another example - she's so angry at him for coming to her mother's funeral. He was her brother's best friend, a point they often mentioned (yet at the same time, we never meet her brother). I'm sorry, if my best friend's mother died and I was in the same area, I'd sure as heck be trying to attend to support them. She was so selfish, she couldn't accept that maybe her brother (who, oh yeah, had also just lost his mother) might want Marvin there.
Also, what person gives out their personal cell phone to work contacts like that? Seriously, giving angsty parents your personal cell and then acting put out when people *gasp* call you on it!
The side characters. Marvin's life was full of toxic people that he just let stay there. Sasha? Ridiculous amount of crazy OW drama. Every scene he had with her, he was commenting on how crazy she was. Yet he kept her in his employ. And not just employed, but in charge of his daughter! Even when she finally goes totally off the deep end and throws a plate at him in an argument, he still doesn't fire her! Yes, he does a few minutes later, but at a different point in the conversation. It was like he'd have kept her employed after throwing the plate if she hadn't kept running her mouth as well. Quite frankly, his first reaction after the plate should have been "Pack your bags. You're done." Which it wasn't. Candy did provide some ex/OW drama, but relatively minor compared to Sasha, and she at least grew a bit too through the course of the story (more than Olivia did, may I add).
The writing. Some of the phrasing was just awkward. "Man steam"? Eww. And I can't think of a single woman who'd use the phrase "pussy hole" to describe their own body. And these people said "ya'll" way too much for anybody north of Maryland.
The details in the writing. The timeline was one of the most bothersome things for me. For example, they are two years apart in age/school, and they break up when he goes to college, right? Yet, she remembers a sex scene at November her junior year. Which, if they were two years apart, would have been as he was a freshman in college and when they'd have been broken up for about 5-6 months already. Another example, they both talked about being out of high school for ten years, yet they're two years apart. And Olivia talks about waiting for 12 years. So, how old are they exactly? This story takes place 10 years after which of their high school graduations? Just little details like these all over the place that were just so sloppy and haphazard.
The sex scenes. Beyond the actual phrasing (see above), there was just weirdness in the scenes themselves. The leads didn't get together in the present portion of the storyline until about 80% of the way through the book. So all the steamy scenes up til then were in flashback. From when they were in high school. Now I'm not so naive as to think that high schoolers aren't sleeping together, but at the same time, these scenes just didn't sound right for high schoolers. They sounded like porn scripts with all the dirty talk, and for a girl who was constantly described as sweet and innocent and (as we're constantly reminded) lost her virginity in this relationship... it all felt really weird and awkward.
The proofreading. So many errors. Sometimes words in a phrase left out, or extra words present where you can tell the sentence had been reworded at some point - that sort of thing. And then there were just straight up mistakes. Like talking about renewing his contract with the Flags... when he played for the Leviathans. Which couldn't be spelled consistently through the book. Half the time was (correctly) Leviathans, and the other half the time it was Leviathons (not a real word). Basically, running spellcheck should have caught that one! And it looks as if this continues in the next book too, as the sneak peek chapters couldn't be consistent as to whether Bryan's assistant was Palir or Pilar.
Alternating 1st person POV. Which was really annoying, considering how immature these two were. Didn't want to continue spending any more time in their heads, thank you very much. No cheating, but the leads also didn't get together until about 80% through. Plenty of OW drama, but no love triangle nonsense (thank goodness for small mercies). Two very immature and selfish characters, only one of whom matures even slightly. HEA and no cliffhangers.
While I might read more from this author (call me a glutton for punishment, but her premises/book blurbs sound interesting!), I won't be expecting as much. And this particular one won't ever be a reread.
ONE AMAZING READ!!! Wow! Talk about taking one for the team. This is one incredibly exciting, fast paced, heart pounding, pulse racing, smooth flowing, page turning delight that grabs your attention from the first paragraph. All the twists and turns, unexpected circumstances and unpredictable surprises around every corner make for thrilling experience. A plethora of emotions to sort through and tension spirals as the plot thickens. This cute little read gives enough drama, fear, mystery and suspense that it keeps you frozen to your seat and total focus on the pages. The characters and scenes are written with such realism it really pulls this bad boy together beautifully. Awesome job Jamie, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.
The storyline had promise, but the errors and repetitive phrases just got in the way. This one could have been told in half the length of the story. The writer kept Marvin and Olivia going over and over their high school relationship when they should have been concentrating on the here and now and Marvin's child. The characters were grossly underdeveloped, the main characters couldn't stay out of their own way and the nanny was a but job. No nanny, who acted like Sasha did, would have been employed by anyone. A really good proofreader would benefit the story greatly, I stopped counting the typos, word use and tense errors at one hundred. By then I just gave up and started skimming so I could finish.
With a few exceptions through out the story, up to the last tree chapters, this was primarily a story of reminiscing. Roxi and Olivia would have a conversation and it would either be about the past or Olivia drifting off remembering the past. This is just one example. An explicit intimacy scene which turns out to be between Olivia and Marvin as a senior and sophomore in high school, left me a bit weirded out on that one. Proofreading had glitches through out. There is no cheating or cliffhanger and the story ends on a happy note. I'm hoping the last two stores I've read from this author are earlier works, because they aren't the quality I was introduced to.
This book will have you cracking up!! I enjoyed reading this book!! The characters was pure comedy!! First off you have Olivia and Marvin old high school sweet hearts that calls it quits amicably in Marv last year of high school!! They are both obsessed with each other. Mainly through the whole book was flash back of their blossoming love for each other!!! Also family drama and the decisions they have made along the way, that let them to being lonely and second-guessing their decisions they made in life!!! This was a great read!! You can definitely feel the desire, and love for each other in the book!!!
I received this book as an arc book and I volunteer to give my honest review!!
This is a great fun read that flowed remarkable well If I had one criticism it needs a good edit in some parts it was a bit long winded This is a fast paced second chance romance Marvin and Olivia where schollyards sweethearts but went their separate ways during his last year at high school Now they have met again and through various flashbacks you see how they love blossomed and the decisions they have made in life leading them to this point Will they finally get a chance at a HEA you need to read to see
Please be advised the steamy scenes in this book are fairly graphic so be aware before purchasing
An amazing second chance romance that is wonderfully and uniquely written. I really enjoyed how most of the story was a flash back of their blossoming love for each other and included all the family drama and the decisions they have made along the way told from dual POVS. They both have always continued to be obsessed with each other without the other ever knowing. This engaging story is such a great read full of humor and tension that spirals as the plot thickens it incudes emotions that need to be sorted thru, twists and turns, unexpected circumstances and unpredictable surprises that kept me addicted page after page. An amazing ending and great present day wrap up.
This was a good story about high school sweethearts coming back together through marvin's daughter. Olivia tells herself she hates him, but in denial of the love they still hold for each other while marvin convinced the problems in his life mean there's no revisiting the past. It was a little drawn out at times, hoping they would get it together. But enjoyed it in the end.
Olivia and Marvin were high school sweethearts who mutually parted ways. When Olivia discovered that her troubled student was Marvin's daughter she thought that she could contain her feelings but circumstances proved otherwise.
I enjoyed the character and relationship development. The story line was good.
This is a really wonderful second chance story from the amazing romance author, Jamie Knight. It's an emotional book that pulled me in from the first page, the story brought tears in my eyes several times. I highly recommend this book for everyone that love a second chance romance. It is a standalone book with no cliffhangers and a HEA.
After the first chapter is when I started to struggle. The next how ever chapters was basically about the MFC reminiscing about the past. Literally. It was a struggle just to read this book. I'm not a big reviewer and won't go into extreme details about a book. I just struggled to connect with either MCs. Their personalities just didn't click with me at all.

I really enjoyed this one. It's sweet, and funny at times. A nostalgic look at first loves and the weird curve balls that life can sometimes throw at you. Olivia is such a great character, I'd have loved a teacher like her.
If your looking for a fast pace second chance romance than this is for you. I really enjoyed this book. Marvin and Olivia were awesome together, Kylie was such a cutie. I’m so happy Olivia got her HEA.the storyline was so good I really didn’t want it to end.
This is a fast paced story which had me intrigued and hooked from the very beginning. I look forward to reading more from this author and I recommend for all second chance romance reader's.
First Love Great second chance romance. In this story there are several relationships that need healed. The characters all interact well and create an interesting storyline. Definitely worth reading. I received an advanced copy for my honest review.
I really enjoyed the way the author brought together the main characters the side characters and wrapped it all up into one very enjoyable story I really enjoyed this it was fabulous
This book was hard to stick with, but does end up with a HEA. The story line was pretty predictable and considering how clean most is the storyline and dialogue was, it was odd when it got so graphic with the sex scenes. First time reader Of this author
