Marty Mann and Nellie Dixon are back for another irreverent, liberal, twisty, time-travel comedy! This time they have Jesus Christ, the actual guy, on their side.
The timeline correction Marty Mann and Nellie Dixon accomplished in their first episode was successful. . . . Or was it? When the two humans and their Krichard friends, Chrissie and Tina, return to year 2020 Earth to verify the change, they find an advanced, peaceful planet.
The four friends move into Marty's new timeline home and the next morning head out for a flying car tour of Oodlelakeolis. The city, which was Minneapolis in the previous timeline, is beautiful from the air, but when they swoop down to land, the Colorless Ones, a cult of religious extremists from the planet Krichardia, reverse the timeline change and abduct Chrissie and Tina.
Instantly, President Handley is back to dropping nuclear bombs, and once again, Marty and Nellie must find a way to stop him.
After our heroes gain possession of the Krichards' time-traveling Chromosphere Cruiser, they return to AD 31 with plans to restore the advanced timeline by wowing the locals with the Holy Smokin' Hot Nellie act. Unfortunately, an unexpected event forces them to return to the year 2020, but they have a stowaway--Jesus Christ!
Can Marty Mann and Nellie Dixon save the world and rescue Tina and Chrissie with snark being their only superpower? Can a dark-skinned Jesus with a fondness for profanity and a disdain for religious hypocrisy thrive in the twenty-first century? And who are the Soldiers of the White Jesus, and what will they have to do with any of this? These questions and more will be answered in this unforgettable episode.
Time Is Irreverent 2: Jesus Christ, Not Again!is a hilarious, thought-provoking satire with unpredictable twists, colorful and colorless aliens, the outrageous Holy Smokin' Hot Nellie, and a juicy role for Jesus Christ, the actual guy!

The Silver Squad, published in early 2025, is Marty’s eighth and most mass appeal book to-date.
Marty is also a popular college speaker. Over the past seventeen years, he has captivated audiences with the stage-show version of Cool Creatures, Hot Planet, performing it on hundreds of campuses in forty-five states.
This book is liberally hilarious! This is book 2 in the Time is Irreverent series. I have NOT listened to the first book yet but I’m definitely adding it to my bookshelf. While the stories go together, there was enough “quick catch up” synopsis at the beginning and scattered throughout the book that it does well as a stand alone.
If you’re not politically Liberal, you won’t really like this book so don’t bother getting it. Do, however, give it to your liberal friends and family as gifts. They will appreciate it. The president of the USA is a mirror image of Trump, and of course the heroes are trying to thwart his evil nuclear plans via time travel and Jesus.
There are 4 heroes in this story: 2 Krichardian aliens & 2 American humans...and of course they’re all dating. It’s not a 4-some; there are 2 pairs, each with a human & alien. Our humans are Marty Mann & Nellie Dixon, and our Krichardians are Chrissy & Tina. 1 straight couple, 1 lesbian couple. The dynamics are great. This book is over-the-top stereotypic liberalism, and it made me laugh constantly.
The adventures they had in book 1 are alluded to, so we have an inkling that they’ve already saved the day in a big time way. They’re in their spaceship, flying around when they get the call to go back in time and change Earth’s past so that President Handley is never made president and so the Krichardians can have a peaceful relationship with Earth. Conservatives have co-opted Christianity into a hate mongering, gun promising religion and the first thing they need to do is go back and find Jesus. When Chrissy & Tina get kidnapped by the Colorless Ones (a cult against time traveling) Marty and Nellie have to figure out how to save the world by themselves before nuclear annihilation. But first, they need to learn how to fly the ship, and for that they’re going to need some hind brains.
You should know that Jesus cusses a lot in this book. As an atheist, it doesn’t bother me in the slightest and I don’t think it will bother most liberally minded Christians with a sense of humor. But I thought I should put it in there. There are no gratuitous sex scenes or anything like that in this book - although there is a little sexual content. Just really funny, liberal humor. I recommend it to all liberals who are sick of Trump, who have a sense of humor, love funny digs on conservatism, and like goofy time travel type reads.
The narrator does a pretty dang good job too.
This book was given to me by the author, narrator, or publisher in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
I wanted to enjoy this work but all I got was the author pushing the Democratic agenda and down talking to Republicans and using Jesus and Christianity to push their agenda if you’re a Democrat you will love this book and hates Republicans and shows it well
I love this series. I’ve always said that if ‘Jesus’ did exist 99% of what was written about him is fiction. If there is a God he would be more like the one this Jesus follows. Not the one american Christians worship today. I love the whole twist on if you could go back in time & kill baby Hitler would you.... only it’s baby Handly....our fake Trump. Their scheme is better and no one dies....but I can’t tell you if it works out because that would ruin part of the book for you. I definitely look forward to more adventures with this group. Saving the environment and the world is hard work but someone has to do it. Narration was excellent. I was voluntarily provided this review copy at no charge by the author, publisher and or narrator.
For those aficionados of entertaining, optimistic sci-fi, who have been avidly waiting for another Time is Irreverent adventure - your wait is over. Erstwhile heroes Marty Mann and Nellie Dixon have become embroiled in another scramble to manipulate time in order to save planet Earth. This time they have their own ship, a nippy space cruiser with time-jumping capabilities that they happened to be testing on behalf of the Krichards, a space faring civilisation which manipulates time lines to encourage war-like races to develop peaceful, loving societies. A fundamentalist Krichardian faction has reversed the changes made by Marty and Nellie in their first adventure and now they must find a way to stop a lunatic US president from instigating a nuclear war. Time is Irreverent 2 by Marty Essen follows their complex jumps through time as together with Chrissie and Tina, their respective Krichard paramours, they race to rid the planet of the misguided president. In order to achieve this, they will once again call on the assistance of Jesus Christ, but can they possibly prevail against an incestuous, corrupt and hugely powerful church, state, business hierarchy?
It was a relief to read for a change a sci-fi novel not mired in the hopelessly depressive, dystopian formula that seems to be the fashion these days. Marty Essen has cleverly structured his novel to present a mildly humorous look at aliens, time travel and politics while at the same time examining some of the crucial issues that confront society today. He takes a sideways look at the close relationship between supposedly Christian churches and political parties, the shady connections between politicians and big business and the resulting plundering of our planet’s resources. He makes one of the most intelligent comments I have come across regarding American gun control where he observes that when the Founding Fathers wrote the Second Amendment, they could not have known that muskets would eventually be replaced by modern semi-automatic assault rifles. Whether the observation is original or not, it got this resident of Scotland, who has never handled a gun, thinking on the issue. Mr Essen has produced a fine follow-up to his first, time travelling escapade and I hope that the likeable characters he has created will get many future outings. A great addition to a currently gloomy, pessimistic genre - I do not hesitate to recommend it.
I like many things about Time Is Irreverent 2. The writing of Marty Essen touches my senses. He uses his knowledge as a travel writer to describe remote locales like Antarctica and Pluto. I can visualize myself hiking and jumping on the surface of Pluto. I learned that Antarctica is a very loud continent with all of arctic animals and ice cliffs. I would love to see and hear these things for myself because of the descriptive way Essen writes.
I also love the elements of science fiction in this book. I would to travel through time. Iwould love to have the ability to speak a new language by using a simple device. I also love to change my clothes and heal my body wounds by pressing a button on a space ship. The visual quality of writing is what I love the most about Time Is Irreverent 2.
Marty Essen gives readers his assessment of the current political climate. He uses humor to show crazy our political system has become. I never thought that Jesus Christ could be a funny character in a book, but I enjoy Essen's unique depiction of Jesus as a person struggling to adjust to pop culture.
I love the rock music references he uses. He honors Keith Richards by naming an alien race named KRichards. He makes references to Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders and Tina Turner by humorously using their names for his female characters. Time Is Irreverent 2 is an entertaining and informative book.
It strikes me that there doesn't seem to be a explanation for the stars that are given. So I thought I'd start giving my take on it. 1 horrible no redeeming qualities. 2 there are redeeming qualities. 3 good worth reading, or well written but not my cup of tea. 4 great but there's something off. 5 loved it.
So now about this story. I couldn't stop listening, I can't wait for more of this series. I want to say more about this story but I absolutely hate spoilers, so I won't do it to you by going into details. I do think I'd have given this a 5 had I been able to listen to the first part. I was confused several times. The narrator brings the story to life.
Reasons I enjoyed this audio book: Witty, Wonderful characters, Page-turner, Great world building, Unpredictable, Original, Easy-to-read, Entertaining, Action-packed, Twisted, Funny, Whimsical. Bookshelves/tags: adventure, aliens, alternatively-reality, another-world, futuristic, gods, historical, humorous, island, medical, multiple-couples, outer-space, recorded, science-fiction, series, timetraval-do-over.
This Audiobook was given to me for free at my request from the publisher, author or narrator and I provided this unbiased voluntary review.
I liked the first novel a lot. But this one is even better. No character is so outlandish that the fun becomes ridiculous. Time travel is a tool, not the star of the story. And that makes it more believable and the characters the stars. I really like the writing style coupled with authentic science and political satire. I'm obviously avoiding details of the story so as not to ruin it with spoilers.
My highest praise: even though book 2 continues the story from book 1, they are both standalone reads. That's the only kind of book series I will read. I hope there's a book 3.
To the awesome author Marty Essen, as far as I know Noah used a mixer of chemicals to put all the animals into hibernation for the whole journey so no food for the animals was needed. About this amazingly joy of a book there is not much to say only that I wish for more of this craziness and fun of science fiction which got it all without the usual brain braking science only fun !!!
Picking Nate. C. Maughan for narration was an excellent decision, with out a doubt he have narrated each character perfectly.
This book made me laugh as I followed their crazy adventures. If you're a Bible fanatic, stay away. But if you have an open mind and understand that this book if just fiction and just for fun, you've got to read this story and the prior book. Such a fun ride! I'd love to time travel all over the place like Marty and Nellie do!!
Marty and Nellie embark on another adventure to save the world after their original efforts are nullified by a splinter group of alien religious fanatics. They not only move back and forth through history but make many scenic pitstops along the way while maintaining some sassy dialog with a good amount of snark.
Hmmm... I've been dreading the thought of having to write this review. If you can ignore the sadly inappropriate political commentary that you will occasionally encounter in this book, it is, for much of it, a fun, light series with interesting and engaging characters. It does help to have read the first book before this one, as it provides a more detailed history of the characters.
WOW!!!!!! As a very outspoken Liberal Democrat, I REALLY, REALLY LOVED this book.
AND this series! The Author brings out so many, many things that I agree are wrong about the society I live in in the USA, that I was almost 'blown away'! If you recognize that there are 'cracks' in the way politics, religion, and the entire economy works, Seriously READ THIS BOOK!
The book started out a bit stilted, but once I got into this quirky tale, I found it to be quite engaging. The characters need a bit more development. Jesus's character seemed a bit out of character.
It was wonderful reading the two books back to back. I so hope for more adventures with Marty and Nellie. Fun, funny, thought provoking. Highly recommended unless you are a Trump supporter.
Great story. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could jump back in time and take out the evil and return the good? Oh ya, I'd like being invisible at times too. Looking forward to the next in this series
Audio: Time is irreverent 2 is fun!I enjoyed this time travel/fix the furure book.Lots of inside jokes.Nate C Maugen was a good narrator.I was given this book by the narrator, author or publisher free for an honest review.
Like “Time is Irreverent “, “Jesus Christ, Not Again!” is a fun, exciting and intriguing look at what small changes in timelines can do to correct the errors of the past. I’d highly recommend both, but only if you want to be charmed and amused!
Excellent 2nd entry in a very entertaining series. Really great characters that makes you want to meet them. Pay no attention to the Liberal only warnings unless you have no sense of humor. Hoping for another book in the series!
