Patricia Hegarty began working in children's publishing more years ago than she cares to remember and is now Editorial Director at Caterpillar Books and Little Tiger Kids. As an author, the range of subjects has been wide-ranging—pirates, princesses, trees, and bees have all become firm favorites.
A sweet story with a lovely message explaining love and kindness, however, I think adult readers will appreciate this board book much more than the little ones they are reading to. I can see the story appealing more to slightly older children, but they will likely be turned off by the board book format thinking it is for younger siblings and babies.
Additionally, I don’t think the title fits well. I like the first line better, love is all around us, as it fits the message of the story much better. I love the idea of this book so I’ll give it 4 stars, but I’m just not sure it works for the youngest listeners.
This book is about ways to show love and what to do for the people who you love. It goes through many different animal characters showing a new way to express their love. The illustration in this book was essential and exquisite. The pictures were very colorful and creative by using the heart cut outs as part of each animals body. This symbolizes that everyone has love inside them. The cover art shows all of the heart cut outs, representing how much love we having just in this small group of creatures. I enjoyed reading this book to my students. It was very sweet and had. Lot of lessons on how to be kind and think about others feelings before acting. It showed that no one is ever alone and the smallest things can impact someone greatly. I would use this with my future students when they have arguments/conflicts with their peers because it will help them figure out that they should use a small gesture to show love to make up. This book is recommended for all ages, 0 and up. I completely agree with this because younger children can start grasping the concept soon and continue to learn to use the good behavioral of love.
This picture has beautiful illustrations and with bright spring colors. This story will teach students about kindness and how they treat others. I would have this in my classroom library as a positive reminder for my students.
"Love is when you keep going on a wet and rainy day. Smiling through the darkness, 'til the sun peeks through the gray."
This sweet story about love is a tender one to read with the little one you love the most. It would be a great read aloud for February or when talking about how we can care for one another.
