For most women, working for a sexy soccer star would be a dream come true. All except single mom Felicity Shaw. She has no interest in playing personal assistant for a stubborn, injured playboy—no matter how nice his abs are. But with bills piling up and mouths to feed, she can’t say no to the job.
That’s when it gets interesting.
The last thing Scott Gillie wants or needs is a persistent and entirely too distracting PA while he’s recuperating in his small hometown. Unfortunately, it’s not up to him. Then Felicity and her son end up temporarily moving in—all thanks to his meddlesome grandmother. Now temptation is right across the hall and it’s driving Scott crazy.

The Soccer Player and the Single Mom is a stand alone sweet romance by Kyra Jacobs. I have read Kyra’s Paranormal series and even though she has several published contemporary romances, I haven’t read any of them yet. I don’t know why because I love her writing style. She has such a way of drawing in the reader and making us fall in love with her characters. Which is exactly what I did with this book!
Scott Gillie is a twenty eight year old professional soccer player. Scott’s life revolves around soccer. That’s the way it’s always been and that’s the way he wants it. But his life is suddenly put on pause when he is forced to take time off while an injured knee heals. Scott finds himself rehabbing at his childhood home, his grandmother’s house, in Quail Hollow, Indiana. All he wants is to get back to work doing what he loves. But that can’t happen until the doctor releases him. In the mean time, his manager decides he needs a personal assistant. That is the last thing Scott wants. Someone getting on his nerves every single day, especially the beautiful single mom his manager chooses for the job.
Felicity Shaw is a single mom to her six year old son, Tyler, who is adorable by the way. Felicity is doing everything she can to keep their heads above water. But lately, fate seems to be against her and is dealing her one blow after another. When Scott’s manager offers her the job as Scott’s personal assistant, she doesn’t want to take the job. She has no idea how to be a personal assistant. Plus, Scott is just a little bit too good looking for her own good! But she needs the money. Then fate deals her another blow and she finds herself moving in to Scott’s grandmother’s house, with her bedroom door right across the hall from Mr. Sexy Soccer Player. This is not good at all. But she has no choice. She needs a place to stay and she needs this job.
Scott doesn’t want a PA and Felicity doesn’t want to lose the job, so let the games begin. As these two get to know each other, and Scott sees what kind of a woman Felicity is, he suddenly realizes he doesn’t want to run her off anymore. Just the opposite. He wants her to stay.
But Scott’s life isn’t here in Quail Hollow anymore. As soon as he gets released by the Dr., he’s leaving. It’s what he has to do. Can he and Felicity enjoy a little fling, just enjoy the time they do have together with no attachments, until he leaves? Or is his heart already getting involved?
I enjoyed this so much. I loved the relationship between Felicity and her son. And I loved watching the relationship build between Scott and little Tyler, and also between Scott and Felicity. Try as they did to keep their hearts out of things, it became impossible the longer they were together. And I have to mention Scott’s grandmother, Edna. I loved her. She was quirky and fun and just what Felicity and Tyler needed. She was also much wiser than she let on.
This really was such a sweet, wonderful romance that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. Kyra is such a fabulous author and I can’t wait to see what she is going to do next!
Let’s see what went wrong; - disengaging writing style (I fell asleep) - ZERO chemistry (it was more like the author blackmailed the h and H to do the horizontal tango) - absolute linear oversimplification of plot (Mary Sue single mum h meets son’s idol sexy but injured soccer player, gets a job, moves in with crazy grandma and hero, hero resists, hero fails, *woohoo*, bonding time with plot moppet, hero chooses career over “family” for the black moment, promises broken to plot moppet, epiphany, promise is saved, one liner grovel, HEA). Seriously. NOTHING else happens! - grandma grated on my nerves (she openly admitted beating H and his father as kid, it was meant to be funny? Well, I didn’t laugh) - even though the H wasn’t a manwhore, he was definitely experienced, whereas h, only had ONE lover, and of course she was hurt SOMEHOW in her previous marriage (if the author could get away, she WOULD have written she only had sex that once, but alas, she already decided to make her a widow. Oh wait, nothing a six year celibacy can’t fix, as opposed to hero’s “ages” which couldn’t have been anything over a year 🙄)
Feel good romance this was not!

Firstly the h gets the job of being a personal assistant to the recovering from an injury soccer player, the H. He doesn’t wants a PA but gets stuck with one anyway thanks to his manager. The H is staying with his grandmother till he recovers. His grandmother is a funny woman who kept her grandson on a tight leash.
The H plans to shoo the h away. Unfortunately during the first day of her job her house catches fire and his grandmother ends up inviting her and her son to stay at their house for time being. The h accepts it quickly. The H is obviously not happy with it. I didn’t liked that the h accepted the offer too easily. I wish she had some self respect and wouldn’t have been a freeloader. Als the H doesn’t want her there and she knows it and she still comes to stay there.
And the nerves of the h when she says this to the H...
“You know, If you’d stop resenting the fact that I am here, you might find I’m not so terrible to have around.”
Like really? It’s his house and she is showing attitude?
Then her kid wakes up with bad dream in the middle of night and tries to find his mom but couldn’t find her room. (Oh yes, the freeloader h and her son gets their own rooms...yayy) so he ends up in the H’s room. The H keeps him company till his mom comes. Finally when she comes, instead of seeing her kid who just had a bad dream, she ogles at the H and is trying to get a kiss from him.
Then the next day when the grandmother calls her grandson a knucklehead, the freeloader h is worrying that her son might pick the grandmothers bad habits. What? Ah...well.. Why don’t you just get the fuck outta that house?
The book just gets boring and irritating. I just skimmed. Sorry I don’t like such heroines. She is getting triple the salary and now she has got free place to stay till her new housing thing is ready and here she is complaining that the H is giving her unnecessary errands? Well. I think she should have helped the grandmother in her housework. And more. It’s just my personal view.
It is a very sweet and romantic novel. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and would recommend to anyone looking for a fun read. Felicity is a working single mom but lately, she has been experiencing the worst luck ever. First, the factory where she works closes unexpectedly and without any warning. Then, her building caught fire and now not only she is out of a job but she also needs a place to stay. So, when she is offered a job as a personal assistant to an arrogant soccer player she has no other choice but to accept. Scott is not happy that his agent hired someone as his assistant. Although he is recovering from an injury he still thinks that he can manage on his own. Besides, it is not like he has ever had an assistant before. Why would he need one now? So, his plan is to make Felicity leave as soon as possible. Unfortunately for him, she is in no position to turn down a job offer. It seems that for the time being they are both stuck with each other. What started as a very difficult professional relationship soon turned into something much more. The only problem is that Scott is not here to stay and Felicity has her son to think about. But both plan to have a good time for as long as it lasts. It is a very well-written novel and I loved all the characters, especially Scott's grandmother, Edna is simply an amazing woman. Felicity cousin is also cool. All in all, it is a great read and a highly entertaining story. P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley.
Felicity Shaw has pretty much struggled her entire adult life. Since her husband died of an overdose, it has just been her and her six-year-old son Tyler. Felicity lives for her son. With the exception of her cousin Lauren and Lauren’s family, it’s just the two of them. That's not to say Felicity doesn't have parents. She does. They're just not in the picture (their choice) and seem to not care about her or Tyler. While at her son's pediatrician's office, she discovers via a breaking news story that the factory she works at has been closed down. When one door closes, another one opens.
Felicity's open door is being held for her by J.B., the agent for Scott Gillie, pride of Quail Hollow, Indiana, and right-wing for Columbus's major league soccer team. An on-field injury has Scott seeking a second opinion from his friend and former college teammate Evan Bedi. Yes. Evan Bedi of Quail Hollow Pediatrics. Scott hopes that Evan will fast-track his return to soccer before his backup takes his starting position. Unfortunately, Scott's injury is worse than previously thought and Scott is looking at an additional two weeks of recovery time. Since Scott is staying in town with his grandmother, J.B. suggests and hires Felicity to be Scott's PA. Felicity’s job is to do some admin work for J.B. But mostly, she is to schedule appearances around the area for Scott, take him to those appearances, and ferry him around wherever he needs to go.
Scott isn't happy his agent hired Felicity. He doesn't think he needs an assistant and really doesn't want to do any PR work. Needless to say, shenanigans ensue when they each try to push their own agendas. Soon they become attracted to each other and decide to give into their feelings. But all too soon, they each start to wish their temporary fling could be more.
I really enjoyed the push and pull between Felicity and Scott in the beginning. This went on through almost half of the book. Them trying to get back at each other was fun to watch. For me, the tone of the book changed once the laughter stopped. Once they accepted and acknowledged they were attracted to each other, their scars started to show. Since the death of his mother, Scott has used soccer as a crutch. And the promise to his mother, has fueled his tunnel vision desire to be the best and reach the top of his sport. He has cast aside everything in his life for soccer. Felicity is funny. She’s strong, resilient, and resourceful. She carries around the burden of her husband’s death.
I think Kyra did a really, really good job of capturing the soul and essence of a six-year-old little boy. Edna, Scott’s grandmother, was the best kind of grandma. She knows more than she lets on. She's wise. She's funny. She's a handful. I love grand gestures. I found the grand gesture in this story to not be very grand. It was predictable and simple.
Now, I’m stepping on my soapbox to complain about social issues in the book not addressed with ways to seek help. Drug overdose is a huge issue, as is domestic violence. There are no warnings that these are included in the story. There are also no messages on referral links or numbers to seek help, in case you or someone you know needs it. I’m a firm believer that if you put it in the book as a way to drive your story, you owe it to readers, yourself as an author, and publisher to deliver a public service announcement. You never know what little push someone needs to reach out for help.

Wildly entertaining! A bucket full of sass from a single Mom, a grumpy soccer player, a feisty Grandma and her dog and a young son make this book one that you just cannot put down! Scott Gillie is a pro soccer player who is nursing an injury and back home with his Grandma desperate to get back on the field, fearing if he's gone too long his back up will replace him. When a plan to circumvent the trainer backfires, he's on strict orders to stay off his knee and gets a single mom PA to boot. Felicity has just lost her job, while waiting for her new little rental house to be ready, her current run down duplex is condemned and she's just been hired by Scotts agent as his PA. His agent has a plan to keep Scott busy and his face out there. Along with that he gives her other work to do, which she handles most efficiently. Especially the angry, spiteful Scott who is determined to make her life so miserable she'll quit and he can do what he wants. She'll have none of that. Meanwhile Grandma has them moving in with them after the fire disaster and makes Scott even more uncomfortable as he really is taking a liking to Felicity and her son Tyler. Scott battles with his feelings towards her and his need to get back out there and play. He's great with Tyler and Scott has his own baggage from his early years and Fe has her share as well. Between the dialogue and watching the story unfold between them, I couldn't put this one down. It made me want more and kept me turning those pages. The ups and downs, along with his Grandmother's sarcasm was a treat! Scott and Tyler were awesome and the spark between Fe and Scott was perfection. I loved every stinking minute of this book. The epilogue was a treat! Another must read from Kyra Jacobs!
This is another brilliant, enthralling contemporary romance from this talented author. Her stories are always heartwarming and written with a sense of humour that brings a smile to my face - and this is no exception - I thoroughly enjoyed reading it!
Felicity Shaw is a feisty, single Mum who is bringing up her son alone after the untimely death of her husband. She's moved back into her home town to be nearer to her best friend and never dreamt that taking her son for a visit to the doctor would end up changing their lives forever. You need to read it for yourself to discover how she ends up with a new job, working as PA to the handsome but injured soccer player, Scott Gillie. Get ready for confrontation, attraction, temptation and a great read as the relationship between these two develops.
There are a whole range of other great secondary characters in the story, too, including Scott's agent and his grandmother as well as Tyler, Felicity's son. It is a lovely story in which needing to heal an injury helps give time for love, romance and a rethink of life's goals all help give love a chance. This is another winner from this talented author and I have no hesitation in highly recommending it to anyone who enjoys contemporary romance with great family appeal!
I requested and was gifted a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion after choosing to read it.
Scott Gillie is a soccer player with a mission, to get to the national squad, until an injury derails his career. Felicity Shaw is a single mom who has just lost her job when the factory where she worked went into receivership. Their lives collide in a doctor's waiting room where Scott's agent JB makes Felicity an offer she can't refuse - be Scott's PA for a few weeks while he's stuck staying with his grandmother Edna in Quail's Hollow, but Scott isn't going to make it easy ...
This was inoffensive, fade-to-black romance. Unfortunately I read it shortly after one with a similar story, Nothing But Trouble which I absolutely adored and this fell short by comparison. There wasn't really any drama or tension or even any plot, just Scott and Felicity dancing around each other and playing house under the watchful eye of Edna and Felicity's son Tyler.
I liked it but I didn't love it.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
This is a fun and charming sports romance, and it also deals with a couple of issues which rarely get addressed in this category, the most significant one being professional sportsmen dealing with serious injuries and the rehab from such, and players ‘aging out’ and facing the end of their careers. There’s a refreshing trope flip where, for once, it’s the HERO who has to make a significant life change in order to make the relationship work - too often I see heroines giving up their dreams for lurve (ugh). While soccer player Scott Gillies doesn’t have to give up his dream entirely, he does have to make some hard life choices and find new dreams to follow.
Felicity, the single mom, and her Plot Moppet son Tyler, are adorable. Felicity’s sassy, take-no-prisoners attitude and the way she refuses to accept Scott’s entitled nonsense at the start of the book are utterly endearing. Probably the only character I liked more was Scott’s hilariously bonkers grandmother.
On the light side, this has closed-door sex scenes and nothing major in the way of angst. A quick and pleasant read, I’m happy to give it five stars.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book for review through NetGalley.
For most single women, working for a sexy soccer star would be a dream come true. All except single mom Felicity Shaw. She has no interest in babysitting for a stubborn, injured soccer star—no matter how nice his abs are. But she has bills to pay and mouths to feed, and her place of employment has just shut down.
Now she can’t say no to the job.
That’s when things get interesting. That’s when things get interesting.
The last thing Scott Gillie wants or needs is a persistent and entirely too distracting PA while he’s recuperating in his small hometown. But his agent hires her in spite of his protests and his meddlesome grandmother moves Felicity and her son in. Even if it is on a temporary basis he just can't ignore Felicity and finds himself totally enamored with her.
This is my first time reading a book by this author.
This clean, behind closed doors romance physical scenes end before anything happens, therefore a behind closed doors type story. It is a sweet story that could be a Hallmark romance even though it isn't. If I read a contemporary romance this is the type I prefer or maybe just a bit spicier. I gave this book 4.5 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization. I received a complimentary copy of this book by invitation to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. 3.5 stars. This was very amusing to read, with relatable characters. I found myself laughing or smiling with Kyra Jacobs’ humor and how hero and heroine embark in what they think is an innocent fling, without knowing they’re already too involved. The instant attraction really worked well for me in this case, the author wrote it in a rather convincing way. Scott, the hero, has the right combination of professional drive, selfishness and generosity to make him a believable and lovable character. The change from sulking and grumpiness to sweetness is enjoyable to watch. His past hurt makes him human. The heroine, Felicity, is a great character too, I liked that she was aware of the relationship risks, but got in nevertheless. Great and likeable side characters keep the story interesting.
3.5 stars. This is the first book that I've read from Kyra Jacobs and I can happily say that I am a fan of her work now. I found this book to be amusing and entertaining to read. Scott might be out and not playing soccer at the moment due to his injury but that does not mean he needs an assistant...well according to him. Felicity might not want to be the personal assistant to Scott but when she loses her job and her apartment catches on fire she has no other option to accept the job. Felicity and Scott might not get along at the beginning but the instant attraction that they feel towards each other is out of this world which soon leads to a lot more. I really liked this book and I can't wait to read more of Kyra Jacob's work.
***Received this ARC by NetGalley as an exchange for an honest review.
This was a good read. The usual determined athlete bent on making all the dreams he thought were important coming true, meets the down on her luck single mom with the very loveable little kid. The banter was interesting & the sarcasm strong, the chemistry hot enough to start a fire. Add in the ever unflappable grandmother who even though she says she’s not impressed with his choice of career still knows more about it than she lets on & the agent who you love to hate makes this a wonderful, fun story to read. I voluntarily reviewed this book given to me by the publisher through Net Galley.
This book was not bad overall, but it just wasn't engaging. I tried to enjoy it, but nothing could compel me to keep reading except sheer determination.
The characters seemed to show unreasonable dissatisfaction with the things that faced them - Scott didn't want an assistant? Just deal with it. Felicity complains her new boss is giving her unnecessary tasks? It's still part of her job.
I think my biggest issue was a scene early on where Felicity turns up to work and Scott.... thinks about her pink toenail polish. Few guys would even notice nail polish let along fetishise it. It creeped me out.
I didn't feel any connection to the characters or romance and didn't particularly feel any interest in the plot either.
Not something I actively hated but it didn't resonate with me at all.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book is so cute! We have an injured professional soccer player holed up at his sassy grandmother’s home for rehab, a single mother in desperate need of a job, and an agent who doesn’t take no for an answer.
Enter- fun!
When Felicity Shaw agrees to a temporary position as soccer player Scott Gillie’s PA, she doesn’t care if he’s a big old grump- as long as she gets paid. After losing her rental home thanks to a fire next door, she needs the money to give her young son the home he deserves.
When Scott’s eccentric grandmother offers them a room- across from Scott’s- Felicity gratefully accepts. After all, it’s only temporary. It shouldn’t be hard to ignore the man’s athletic physique and sexy smile, right?
Scott’s main focus is recovering from the injury to his knee and getting back to his team before the playoffs- nothing else matters. Then Grandma meddles by inviting his unwanted personal assistant and her son to stay with them. Just what he doesn’t need. She’s way too distracting and her son reminds him of himself at that age.
They need to go. Maybe if he makes her life miserable, it’ll happen. Funny how best laid plans can go awry.
Grandma is a hoot! I loved her sass. She raised Scott after his mother’s death and likes to pick on him for just about everything, lol.
Here’s a couple of my favorite passages:
So, what do I have to do for Hero Day?”
“Just talk about your job and how cool it is and stuff.”
Now Edna did roll her eyes. “Scott doesn’t have a job. He just plays with balls all day.”
“Thank you, Grandma. I’ll make sure to say it exactly like that when I go speak to Tyler’s class.”
THE SOCCER PLAYER AND THE SINGLE MOM- KYRA JACOBS when you focus too much on one thing.” Edna tipped her head to one side. “It’s like…loving steak. And you want to eat steak all the time, so you do. But you’re missing out on all the other nutrients your body needs to grow and thrive. And then one day, you realize you’ve been missing out, but it’s too late.”
“So…all the other food is gone?”
“No, but you’ve got kidney stones and liver spots and dentures, because Lord knows half your teeth have been knocked out by now. So you end up in some nursing home assuming the fetal position, waiting for those damn stones to pass.
THE SOCCER PLAYER AND THE SINGLE MOM- KYRA JACOBS I give The Soccer Player and the Single Mom 5 lovely kisses- You’ll read this with a smile 🙂

Felicity and Scott’s love story in The Soccer Player and the Single Mom by Kyra Jacobs was truly a fun and enjoyable read. While at the pediatrician’s single mom Felicity Shaw steps in for a missing receptionist while seeing on the news that the company she worked shut their doors without a single notice. Soccer player Scott Gillie is visiting his friend and former teammate hoping for reprieve from his manager, his grandmother, and the okay on his injured knee to return to the sport he loved. Scott’s manager wants to hire a PA for him which Scott wants no part in, while he’s recuperating at his grandmother’s in his small hometown. Felicity’s take charge and organized personality catches the eye of the manager, hiring her on the spot and offering three times what she was making. She is not interested, especially for a stubborn injured playboy but with bills piling up, no other available jobs in the area, and mouths to feed, she really can’t say no to the job. When a fire condemns Felicity apartment, Scott’s grandmother suggests she and her son temporarily move in with them, but Scott is going nuts with the temptation she offers, especially now that she is across the hall. As Scott plots and plans to force Felicity to quits he is surprised to learn that Felicity will fight fire with fire; karma is such a payback. As Scott and Felicity get to know one another they finally become friends and then lovers. Scott has goals he believes he must reach before settling down with a wife and family; until he returns to the game and sees all he is missing.
Ms. Jacobs wrote a wonderful, sexy and emotional story that is not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with sexual chemistry, amusing banter, and endearing characters giving Scott and Felicity a chance at love and a future neither expected to make them happy. Side note: this reviewer once live in Indiana, the location for this story, and it brought back many memories. I highly recommend The Soccer Player and the Single Mom to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
It's easy to dismiss this book just by looking at the title - and I'm not going to lie, the cheesy title did take me a little while to get over. But once you do get past the title, this is actually a really lovely story, regardless of whether you like soccer/football (depending on where you're from) or not. With a swoon-y male lead who just happens to be a soccer player, and a feisty heroine who's just doing what she needs to support her son and her, as well as a fun grandma and adorable son, you're bound to have a great story. Opposites attracting have always ahem attracted me (see what I did there?). All the banter, undertones of attraction, healthily opposing views. It's fantastic. So you can imagine my delight in this novel with the 'war' that goes on in the beginning of Scott and Felicity's working relationship. Besides, I always appreciate a kickass lady who doesn't take crap from anyone, even if they're ridiculously good looking and a soccer player. Kyra Jacobs wrote their relationship right, in my humble opinion - just the right hint of attraction, banter, and a bunch of heart.
Of course, there are bound to be moments where you want to scream at the lead characters to just MAKE UP ALREADY or to stop being so thick headed (particularly looking at you, Scott) but there weren't so many moments that it made me want to stop reading it.
So yeah, overall - a fantastic read with great characters and some fun opposite attraction action.
Note: I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher and the author via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
This is an easy to read and fun story. From strangers to enemies, to friends and lovers.
Scott has one dream of becoming a famous soccer player. Everything else in his life is put on hold. He sustains an injury which forces him to take time out to recuperate and he can't wait for that time to be over, so that he can go back to fulfilling his dreams.
Felicity is a single mother, struggling to make ends meet. Her whole life revolves around her son Tyler.
The first time that Scott meets Felicity, he is impressed by what he sees. It just happens that she loses her job on that day, but as luck would have it, Scott's manager talks her into taking a temporary position as Scott's personal assistant. Hesitant at first, she accepts through sheer desperation to Scott's dismay. He doesn't need a PA. He needs to get back on the field. Alas, he isn't cleared of his injury and has to accept his situation. He has a plan though. Make her life difficult and send her packing. Little does he know that she is just as stubborn and determined as he is. Here begins the fun and games. Can they come to a compromise for the duration of her employment or will they continue to butt heads? They start off as enemies, but soon become friends and the more time they spend together, they grow on each other. A romantic attraction starts, but he has his job to get back to. He is now torn between returning to his job and staying with Felicity.
Scott and Felicity are characters with traumatic pasts, which dictate their current behaviour. It's a pleasant and easy to read romance.
I was kindly issued with an eARC and the views expressed are my personal opinion.
I can’t believe this is the first time for me to read Kyra Jacobs book. Clearly I’m way behind and need to catching up. “The Soccer Player and the Single Mom” is a lot of fun! The title might not sound so catchy nor conjure a novel scenario in my head, but the story is hopping with such cheer and vibrant characters that gave me the hoot from the start to finish.
Felicity was unexpectedly shanghaied as Scott Gillie’s PA just when she found out she’s out of work. What followed were a series of one-upmanship between the injured soccer player and his PA, made merrier by the PA’s son and the soccer player’s grandmother. The ensuing hilarity and pull of attraction between the MCs might be a touch over the top at times. And I guess considering the timeline, the attachment between the MCs was indeed lightning fast. But I guess this book just hit me at the right time for me not to be too prickly and just enjoy the ride.
Another thing, with the baggage both characters had, there’s usually the urge to fix things. That’s not what’s happening here. Scott and Felicity understood where the other came from, accepting the term and let the other figured out in their own way what they really wanted. No overly dramatic scenes (which is just the way I love it!) just a matter of honesty and timing that played in the conclusion of the story.

Kyra Jacobs is a new author to me but that is about to change after reading the very entertaining The Soccer Player and the Single Mom because I loved getting to know the sassy mum and the very grumpy player. Scott Gillie is a professional soccer player who is trying to get over an injury, he has come home to his grandma’s to recuperate and hopefully return to the game he loves. Scott’s agent believes the only quick way back is to employ a PA to take care of mundane issues so he can rest his knee but Scott is adamant he wants no help from Felicity. Felicity has recently lost a job she was relying on to set her and her son Tyler up in a new condo she has just signed the lease on so when the opportunity of a job with Scott comes up she jumps on it and is even prepared to put up with the grumpy soccer player if it means she gets the start she needs for her and Tyler. Two people in close proximity leads to lots of feelings and emotions but this couple both have a lot of baggage they need to put behind them before they can move on. I loved the characters in this book the banter is funny and the one liners Tyler has are perfection. The chemistry was sizzling and Scott and Tyler’s relationship was everything you would want for your own child. This book captivated me and I really didn’t want it to end and what can I say about the epilogue apart from it was the perfect ending to a great read. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
I had fun with THE SOCCER PLAYER AND THE SINGLE MOM. Felicity and Scott really do start out as a “what the heck is this couple doing together” feeling yet the chemistry is there from the start… everyone’s just ignoring it (like that helps at all). It’s also true that early on in this story Scott often comes off as a grown-up cry baby who isn’t getting his own way. I get that he doesn’t want to be out of the game, but an injury needs time to heal – even he has to acknowledge that at some point.
Little Tyler, Felicity’s son and Edna, Scott’s grandmother were the true stars of this romance for me. I adored Scott and Tyler’s relationship – and as my own grandmother would say Edna was such a hoot, I loved her to bits.
This story is an engaging one of opposites attracting, finding something you didn’t know you needed in life and all the pieces falling into the right slots. As I mentioned, I had fun with this one and enjoyed every moment spent in this world.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
I really enjoyed this story! Scott is a pro soccer star sidelined by an injury who’s come home for a second opinion. Just cause his high school buddy is a pediatrician doesn’t mean he doesn’t know his stuff! His agent hires an assistant to keep him from overdoing it & help him with PR events. Scott treats her like the arrogant pro athlete he is at the beginning. Then he begins to feel bad for it & act better.
Felicity is a single mother who happens to be in the drs office with her son when Scott is there. Her son is a soccer fan & knows just who Scott is. After a series of bad luck hits her, Felicity ends up taking the job as Scott’s assistant. His actions overpower any sense of attraction she feels. What happens when he changes his ways?
I really enjoyed the characters in this story & their growth throughout it. The plot moves nicely & the supporting characters are full of color & personality. The ending was a bit of a surprise but I really liked it. I’ll be looking for more stories from this author.
Injured professional soccer player Scott Gillie moved back home to Quail Hollow to stay with his grandmother Edna while he healed from an injury. His agent hires widowed Felicity Shaw to be his assistant until he’s healed from injuring his knee because she needed a job after the factory she was working at closed suddenly.
Scott and Felicity made me laugh many times reading the story because Scott was a pain in the butt and his grandmother took no prisoners because she didn’t want Scott to run Felicity off since she was good for him. Kyra Jacobs has taken story where the heroine is a widow with a son that falls in love and the hero decides what the best is for all of them including his grandmother. I plan to read more books by Kyra Jacobs because I love reading stories that make it real.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book will pull at your heart from the beginning to end, emotional overload. Felicity seems to have the darkest cloud hanging over her head. Her husband has passed away and she is raising her 5 year old son by herself. If things couldn’t get any worse, she sees on the news her company is being shut down. A chance encounter with Scott Gillie, and his agent JB, in the doctor’s office, may just be the break she needs. JB, sees there is potential in Felicity and offers her a position as Scott’s Personal Assistant, unbeknown to him. It is always nice to read a story about a woman or man who just can’t seem to catch a break and then when they least expect it, something or someone positive comes along and you begin to see a brighter side of life. Kyra Jacobs has written a great love story, although they both have experienced death, they have goals that totally align with each other, and there is still hope they can be together.
Elise has given us Rex the bad boy. Rex is very good at being bad. His family is well known in the town and he is the one person who is not popular. When he returns, most wonder why he is still hanging around. Then on a ride home he stumbles across a lady in distress, so like any gentleman he stops to offer his assistance. When he meets Tilly for the first time, he is drawn to her, but deep down he knows he doesnt do relationships.
Noone expects Rex to hang around, but can Tilly be the one reason he makes a change and becomes a different person. Do you believe in Love at first sight or is it Lust at first sight?
The true question for all those near and dear is can a man really convert from being a bad boy, when he has the fame and a healthy bank account to get him whatever he wants?
Be sure to add this to your want to read list, you wont be disappointed.
I had not read this author before and when someone suggested the book , I decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did. The story of Single mom Felicity Shaw, and famous soccer player Scott Gillie was sweet, touching , at times heartbreaking but also heartwarming. Two individuals that have had their share of losses, insecurities and whose future whether separately or together, is full of uncertainties. They blossomed together but when Scott is due to return to the game after an injured had sidelined him, will he leave everyone behind or will he find a new future? The secondary characters in Edna, Scott’s grandmother, and Felicity’s son Tyler, were great addition to the story. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author. I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Loved this sweet read! Felicia and her sweet boy, Tyler, have a run of bad luck but have the most important thing-each other. When Felicia is offered a job as a PA for sexy soccer stud, Scott, she knows she doesn't need to take the job when she has obvious strong chemistry with the guy who promises to break her heart and cut and run. Having no other choice, she accepts the job and the fun, tense, entertaining times begin.
Edna is an absolute hoot! She keys everyone on their toes and Scott under her thumb. The games Scott and Felicia play to taunt one another in their job roles only adds to the sexual tension they are fighting. Knowing she can't let her son get attached to Scott who already has a for out the door, Felicia tries to resist Scott.... tries!
Loved the writing in this story, the emotional bonds existing and being cultivated with these folks.
There's a string of pretty big coincidences that bring Scott and Felicity into the same circles, but once they are they're darn cute together. Scott's grandmother is a hoot, and Felicity's son Tyler is adorable--together with the hero and heroine they make this a fun story to read. The would-be steamier scenes are fade to black, though there are some toe-curling kisses on the page. Scott grows up nicely during the course of the story, finally realizing that there is more to life than soccer, as his grandmother's been trying to tell him, just in time for a very satisfying HEA.
I'd definitely pick up another book by Ms. Jacobs in the future!
