The fact that it took me almost a year to read this is an indication that my reading discipline is sorely lacking. Although it was somewhat difficult to get through this, I'm glad I did because it's extremely informative and filled in a lot of gaps in my knowledge of world history. I took extensive notes and plan on collating them and printing them out.

I'm surprised this work isn't more popular and better known because so much of history is the history of invasions and conquests, which have shaped and influenced the history of the world to this day.

I don't like invasions and conquests, and a possible spinoff to this work could be one speculating what the world would be like if no one had ever invaded or conquered anyone.

There are certain invasions which are for some reason not included: the Jewish invasion of Palestine, the Austrian invasion of Serbia and perhaps one other that is escaping me right now, which may be included in the latest edition which is unfortunately prohibitively expensive. If I think of what it is I will edit accordingly.

All in all an important work and an interesting way of viewing, summarizing and understanding history from the ancient world to the present.

I wish the very latest edition wasn't so ridiculously expensive.
