Acceptable: Read a book with a cover that includes an actual photo element.

The romance in this book was so ridiculous it was kinda funny to read at times. It's full-on instalove, and while I said it was quite funny, it was also epically cringe-worthy. The story is just meh—it had the potential to be a decent mystery with supernatural elements, but it was far too short and it lacked development in every department, both plot-wise and character-wise.

Hana Spear flew into New York because her friend Cassie died. Cassie was a vampire. As she is on the way to the hotel her cab was rammed into by another automobile. Two men took her out of the cab and kidnapped her. She passed out and when she awoke she was tied to a chair and waiting for a Mr. Chambers. They were asking her about money that Cassie supposedly gave her and where it's at. As they get ready to torture her the police break the door in. She is saved and they take her to the police station. She then meets Avery who is a cop and a vampire. He says Cassie was a blood runner and must have been killed by one of the gangs and now everyone including the cops want the money she supposedly had. This starts the action in the story between Avery and Hana against the vampires, police and the King of Hearts plus his Royal Guards. Action packed story plus a huge surprise at the end. The sexual build up between Avery and Hana is so hot and very descriptive when it gets to them finally doing it.

Suspenseful, fun, sexy ...and vampires!

Great start to what’s sure to be another great series by Savannah Skye! The characters, Hana, Cassie and Avery, were all likable and well developed for such a short book. And the story itself was very enjoyable. Im really looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

0It’s been awhile since I read a vampire book and boy did this one hit the spot! Hana Is back in New York to grieve for her best friend Cassie. Their friendship should of never worked. Cassie is human and Cassie was a Vampire. Hana still can’t believe her best friend has gone. She brought the best out of Hana. Hana is what you call boring. She’s not adventurous and she not brave. When she gets out of the airport and into a taxi Hana can’t help but remember when they were here last. And before she knows it she is flying into the front seat, their taxi has been hit by another car. A big man opens the door and says “ Hana Spear?” Yes she replies. She is dragged out and thrown into another car. Her life changes forever. She has been kidnapped by a man that believes she had been given money from Cassie before her death. Hana has no idea about anything to do with the money. Thankfully she is rescued by the police, but they believe the same thing. This is where she meets officer Avery. He is hot & he looks so strong.
This is where the story really begins for me so I won’t give any spoiler but I will tell you, this is a great read that has me turning the pages well into the night I couldn’t put it down. I’m super excited to read more from Savannah Skye.
I must read with twists and turns and the chemistry is off the charts.

This is a quick read that introduces the Undercity Chronicles – where humans live Topside and vampires live underground, in Undercity. I really enjoyed the imagery of Undercity New York with its ancient and powerful ruler, the King of Hearts. We meet human Hana Spear who’s come to NYC to prove her vampire friend Cassie is innocent of the criminal charges against her. While attempting this, Hana runs afoul of the NYPD; the Old Guard … the elite security force for the King of Hearts; and vampire mobsters, who all think she knows more than she’s telling about Cassie’s recent activities. Can she trust Avery, the sexy NYPD cop who miraculously turns up when she desperately needs help? There’s plenty of action and adventure as they attempt to solve the mystery surrounding Cassie’s death and try to clear her name. The story is well written with engaging characters, plenty of drama, betrayals, secrets and lies along with some seriously steamy scenes.

First let me state, I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review. Also, this is my first time reading this author and with the story I just read, it won't be my last.

Wow!!! This story grabbed me right from the start, and I couldn't put it down. Sherry is Tarot reader in Paris. She's really good at reading the cards too. She gets taken by vampires on her way home one night & is almost killed. Now these aren't the sexy, sparkling sweet mind either. These are the nasty murderous kind. Luckily she doesn't get sucked dry because one of them, Luca who is not like them, steps up and tells about her reading Tarot. So the Master keeps her there as a form of entertainment. She and Lucas develop feelings for each other. But there's evil afoot. I truly loved this story& can't wait to read the next one. I recommend this read 5 Thumbs up

Hana comes to New York to find out more about the death of her vampire friend Cassie.

But as soon as she arrives more as one group thinks she knows where the money is Cassie took and that is a lot of money and Hana doesn't now a thing. But nobody believes her at first.

Even the handsome cop who saves her can't be trust. But after saving his live too, they spent the day together.

This because he is a vampire too, a rare one, because he has been living with human parents who adopted him.

Hana can't keep her hands to herself and he takes good care of her in a very hot way.
But there steamy session is interrupted by Cassie who wasn't death after all.

Bringing more drama and action to the story.
A story I really like and I wouldn't mind reading more in this series, because I like it a lot.

A good vampire, human story with action in and outside the bedroom.

She came to mourn the death of her vampire friend, but the more she learns, the less certain she is of everything.

This is a prequel to an urban fantasy trilogy involving vampires living among us openly. But that doesn't mean they are accepted. It provides a great introduction to the world and enough background to get you interested, without revealing enough to satisfy. A perfect appetizer for the main course to come.

I felt the book was very well written, with good character development and an active pace that kept you glued to the book for just one more page. It also leaves you craving more, which is exactly what a prequel should do. I, for one, am looking forward to the next book.

Highly recommended.

I loved this short but very entertaining book that is the prequel to the upcoming trilogy. I found this to be a very intriguing read that captured and held my attention very well. This series looks to be filled with drama, intensity, action, danger, romance, hints of humor and some shocking twists. I liked Hanna so much. She was very feisty and strong and that was a good thing because with everything going on she needs to be. Her chemistry with Officer Briant was pretty steamy and many of their interactions came across as very cute. I'm very interested In seeing where the story goes from here, so I'm really looking forward to book one. This is my sincere review that I am posting by my own choice.

I loved this story it’s about Hana who goes to NYC to mourn a friend and that friend happened to of been a vampire, humans know that vampires exist and that they are living their lives out in the open but there are some that are not comfortable with vampires. Hana gets kidnapped but she is saved by a cop and now their adventures start in the Undercity where crime and murder is just another day. This is a fantastic story and I loved the characters and I can’t wait for the next book it’s getting exciting. This is a fantastic story and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Loved it, great start to a new series

Hana, is human, her best friend vampire. When she hears of Cassie's death, she heads to NYC to morn her. She ends up kidnapped at the air port by mobsters, seems Cassie stole some money and they think Hana has it.
She is rescued by the NYPD, who also think she has the money. Then attacked by Vampire mobsters and rescued by the very handsome officer who questioned her at the station. Officer Avery Briant, who happens to be a vampire. Hana is convinced of Cassie's innocence and is out to prove it. Avery is just going to have to go along and keep her safe.
Fun fast pace and a little steamy.

Such a great story with great characters. Hana went to vampire under city to clear her friends name and got more than she bargained for. Met Avery, a vamp on the NYPD and things got hot and steamy. She was being hunted by vamps and humans alike for something she didnt know where it was. Things got crazy for a bit and in the end she got her HEA with Avery turning her and loving her forever.

It was a good short read. I liked the characters and the storyline. But most of all I liked the humor and way it was woven in Hana's descriptions and comments.
An entertaining and easy style too.

I read and enjoyed this book as part of the Undercity Chronicles #1 by Savannah Skye which is a collection of the first four books in the Undercity Chronicles. This collection includes: A House of Cards, The King of Hearts 1, The King of Hearts 2, and The King of Hearts 3. Each of the four books revolve around a central character named Cassandra or Cassie. In the first book Cassie fakes her death and her best friend a human named Hanna comes to find out what happened to her. This book has a exciting and sweet story of how Hanna falls in love with a vampire and they work together to save Cassie. The other three books all focus directly on Cassandra and her partner born vampire Ryder and the many dangerous adventures they get into together as their relationship develops. This four book series is a wonderful set of vampire stories set in a very well thought out world. This is most definitely the best, most exciting, and well written vampire series I have read. Anyone who loves to read about vampires will be as enchanted by the a unique vampire society found in the Undercity Chronicles as I am. Furthermore, these books are so entertaining with lots of action, adventure, mystery, and romance that I could not put them down until the end. Any paranormal romance reader will love this collection as much as I do. A House of Cards is one of the best romantic vampire romances I have ever read!

A House of Cards is the introduction to the Undercity Chronicles and I read it as part of The King of Hearts collection. It was also the first book that I've read by Savannah Skye.

This was short and sweet and as far as I can tell, a pretty good story to lay the ground work for what lies ahead for the Undercity Chronicles. Since there's a pretty big twist in A House of Cards, I can't say a whole lot, but for being a short read, a lot happened. Stay tuned because I'll be continuing with the first book in The King of Hearts very shortly.

I received A House of Cards as part of the King of Hearts collection in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I am not the biggest fan of instalove. In a very short span they fell in love and it was over. The MC in this book is not the MC in the rest of the series. It was okay, intriguing enough that I kind of want to know what happens next, but not so excited that I can't wait to pick up the next book. It was just okay, and I am slightly disappointed.

Ok very good

Simple and quirky, with odd twists on a new theme. I finished it then wanted more. After a dry spell of boring reads ,I will continue this voyage. A little fun ( lovey sex), kooky fun friend, odd life challenges. Yes very good , fun read. Yes I repeat myself, all is good. 😄
