Well, at least I made it through....
That was awful...
Why three stars ? Because some how I respect the effort if not the story...
Dear lord, where do I start.. it was organized well, better then my thoughts at the moment ,but that’s one of the few positive things I can say...
This was just weird, please bear with me ,( no pun intended) I’m just having a hard time trying describe the oddness that was this book...
I never felt real or genuine, this was soo fake and forced, much like the characters trying to be something they really were not.
And by the way,Winnie Wednesday? Really ?
West and Winnie ? ( how can you not want to roll your eyes or shake your head at that ?)
Any way
Ok, Winnie’s life at the beginning seemed a little over the top in being harassed over her size, and while I know food service can be rough and
Gah.
This was just soo weird but putting it into words is eluding me.
Ok,I looked at this book and the scent of green new writer was stronger than perfume from a dollar store, but new doesn’t mean bad. I know that. You can spend way too much on an established author who’s with a big name publisher and still walk away wanting your money back and wanting to scream about how awful you thought it was... Fancy looking or not, new or established it’s always just a roll of the dice 🎲. Soo I try and take a chance when it seems right.
Ever seen how in real life and not, fact and in fiction who when someone is lying they get too caught in the details ?
When you know someone is lying but instead of keeping it simple and moving on,they weigh down the lie w/too many facts thinking it will make it more convincing?
They didn’t just go to the store ( supposedly) , they went to the new one ,you know out by the old airport? You know where Edna’s daughter works ? While there they looked at a bunch of different items, as if to prove “they really were there “ and go into great detail as to what they saw and how it looked... not seeing it just makes everything sound more fake and more of a lie.
That’s what happens here from the moment Winnie steps foot in NYC we are NEVER allowed to forget West is supposed to be filthy rich,we’re told about how fancy his place is, how he has two women for servants who do everything for him. He has a den,a dinning room,a living room, a receiving room,a fancy piano he rarely plays. Then he takes her on a an almost “Pretty woman” tour of New York, name dropped or fancy places and wines and drinks. He starts calling her “Tam” we don’t know why. These felt soo fake,I never felt the connection, they both felt soo proper and distant one minute but then they had sex and it was like gentleman and lady in public but Dom. And hore once they got sexual... West goes from do as you want gentleman to controlling pseudo Dom, with do this,do that ,”Good Girl “ this and “Good Girl” that... it was weird.
I couldn’t stand the shifters here, they were all a raging bunch of hypocrites. Humans are good enough to live among but not love, mate or befriend...l though West’s hypocritical friend Asher just needed to be kicked to the curb.
The whole crux of the story is for “mysterious “ reasons shifter just can’t mate humans...and ppl make a big fuss but in the end West refuses to give up his “ladyslut” ,fights another bear and rides off into the sunset ( on a plane ) with her for their HFN...
Forced,weak,contrived and just plain weird...
I’m sorry about this review I feel like I’ve said too much but I never really got out what a weird exp. this book was...
The box might look nice, but sometimes dollar store perfume is just dollar store perfume.
